Those who joyfully extend mercy to others demonstrate that they have experienced God's mercy in Christ and possess an unwavering hope in the fulfillment of God's mercy at the resurrection.
Have you ever been caught in a mistake, or a lie? Extend mercy to yourself by saying "you're right, I was wrong, I apologize."
God has forgivin us for our sins. Simply, He wants us to forgive others, even when we feel that forgivness is not there. Is there someone in your life that needs forgivness?
Showing mercy is reflecting God's character in you. It's true, showing mercy to others, even when we feel they don't deserve it, is how God wants us to live our lives.
In this episode of Fatherhood Field Notes: The Craft of Fatherhood, host Ned Schaut gets real about the tension between being a “fun dad” and a responsible parent. Reflecting on moments with his teens and college-aged kids, Ned shares how easy it is to say yes to dirt bikes, hangouts, and late-night drives—but how crucial it is to also enforce accountability, chores, and responsibility. Through candid stories about family dinners, devotions, and even shutting down screen time, he explores how fatherhood shifts with each season—from raising young kids to guiding adult children—and why dads must lead their homes with love, calm firmness, and consistency. At the heart of the conversation is learning when to hold the line and when to step back—when to enforce discipline and when to show mercy. Ned opens up about moments where he intentionally stayed quiet, choosing relationship over reaction, and how that practice can change the way kids respond. With practical tips, raw honesty, and affirmations like “I am the CEO of this house” and “I will not surrender my responsibility to lead this home,” this short but powerful episode challenges fathers to ask: Do I need to say yes more, no more—or show mercy more often? Though Jesus now holds all authority in heaven and on earth, we often wonder why His power isn't fully visible yet. This message explores the biblical tension between His present reign and His delayed return, reminding us that the delay is not weakness, but mercy—giving more people time to hear the gospel and respond to His offer of salvation through the very people longing for his return.
Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.Isaiah 30:1823 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. Matthew 23:23GOD WILL SHOW MERCYTherefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.Isaiah 30:18And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil.Luke 4:1-2"Misinterpretations of our Redeemer's delays are the occasion of a great deal of wickedness. Our Lord Jesus has gone up into the mount of glory, where he is appearing in the presence of God for us, but out of our sight; the heavens must contain him, must conceal him, that we may live by faith. Weariness in waiting betrays us to a great many temptations."HenryHow we act in the wilderness is not the exception; its the rule (its who we really are)Certain of God's people are in trouble and distress, and they are eager for immediate rescue. They cannot wait God's time, nor exercise submission to his will. He will surely deliver them in due season; but they cannot tarry till the hour cometh; like children, they snatch at unripe fruit. ‘To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven'; but their one season is the present; they cannot, they will not wait. They must have their desire instantaneously fulfilled, or else they are ready to take wrong means of attaining it. If in poverty, they are in haste to be rich; and they shall not long be innocent. If under reproach, their heart ferments towards revenge. They would sooner rush under the guidance of Satan into some questionable policy, than in childlike simplicity trust in the Lord and do good. It must not be so with you, my brethren, you must learn a better way.Charles SpurgeonHOW WILL YOU WAIT FOR GOD?IN VIEW OF HIS ABSENCE“Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. Luke 24:19-2132 They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”Luke 24:32God's absence might be a lack of feeling or understanding; but it is never a true absence. God is always there.IN VIEW OF OUR SINLike a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.Proverbs 26:11God's absence might be due to our pursuit of sin; but it does not stop Him from pursuing us.HOW DID MOSES WAIT FOR GOD?IN VIEW OF GOD'S MERCY11 But Moses implored the Lord his God and said, “O Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 12 Why should the Egyptians say, ‘With evil intent did he bring them out, to kill them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth'? Turn from your burning anger and relent from this disaster against your people. 13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.'” 14 And the Lord relented from the disaster that he had spoken of bringing on his people.Exodus 32:11-1411 But Moses implored the Lord…Exodus 32:11ḥālâ — to become weak; to groan26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because[g] the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27HOW DOES JESUS WAIT? 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost[a] those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.Hebrews 7:25JESUS MAKES INTERCESSION FOR USThe son's intercession does not reflect the coolness of the Father, but the sheer warmth of the Son. Christ does not intercede because the Father's heart is tepid toward us but because the Son's heart is so full toward us. But the Father's own deepest delight is to say yes to the Son's pleading on our behalf.Dane C. Ortlund

There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you (James 2:13). We love you, Lord!
As a people called to live under and contend for truth, we must keep ourselves in the love of God, while always showing mercy to those outside of faith and doing whatever we can to bring salvation to all.

What does it mean to be a merciful person? As Christians we believe that God is abundantly kind, loving and merciful and that the supreme expression of this is located in the life, death, resurrection and teachings of Jesus. How do we own the practice of showing mercy in our daily lives and decisions? Listen in as we explore the seventh practice in our series on the Eight Practices of Christ City.
Our natural impulses are often wrong. That includes when we read the Bible and consider the character of God. We look at our lives and incorrectly believe that He and his Word have failed. This passage shows us that God's promises are sure and he orchestrates events to make clear his mercy! Questions Do we question our natural impulses recognizing they are often wrong? “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through [Jesus] might be saved. He that believeth on [Jesus] is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:17-18Changes! No more bloodline salvation; whosoever will (not whosoever wants). There are requirements for salvation. Deny yourself, die (take up your cross), and follow me. Jesus is a stranger to His church. Salvation not one and done; we need to change. When we move from mercy we "don't know what Spirit we are of". It is helpful to remember the 'pit' from whence you came.***55: Jesus Rebukes James' And John's Desire To Misuse Spiritual PowerLuke 9:51-56AS JESUS was making his way toward Jerusalem, he sent messengers before him. They entered a village of Samaria to make ready for Jesus' passing through that place. The Samaritans would not receive Jesus because he was going toward Jerusalem. Two of his disciples, James and John, became very angry over this and said: “Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from Heaven, and consume them, even as Elijah did?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them, saying: “Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.” So they went to another village.
The question of whether mercy has any place in war is a very sensitive one, and it has life and death implications. Mercy is a clear Torah value, but the precedent set by our forefathers in wartime paints a more complex picture.

Lord, How Should I Show Mercy? In today's Gospel, Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive his brother. Jesus then responds. If one just focuses on this part of the story, it's possible to miss the real message behind what Jesus is saying. Listen to this Meditation Media.

Scoop up the child and pull him away from the skirmish; physically carry him to the bathtub; take away the toy from his grip. Natural consequences. The top of the child's ice cream cone falls off into the gravel. “That's why we try to be careful, buddy. I guess we'll just have to enjoy what's left in the cone.” Appeal to conscience. “Do you think your behavior pleases Jesus?” “Is this the way a young man should behave?” Logical consequences. “We won't get you a bicycle until you consistently put your tricycle away each day.””– Sam Crabtree, Parenting With Loving Correction"As needed, discipline your young children with appropriate use of corporal punishment. In the past, the liberal use of rods and canes was often abuse, so we must guard against that, but contrary to some opinions or even the laws of some countries, spanking is not physical abuse. The best Father in the universe says to us, “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes” (Prov. 13:24). If you never spank your young children, you are acting more out of self-love than in their best interests. A firm spank on a child's rear end will not injure him, but will teach him what mere words cannot: sin hurts. It is far better to learn that lesson with a spank than with a lifetime of disobedience culminating in eternal death.”– Joel Beeke, How Should Men Lead Their Families?5 Questions To Help Our Kids See Their Hearts1.
