This week, we chat to Rosaria Girorgi, a mystery writer whose life has been as busy as one of her plots. Whilst studying in Denmark, she got a job working for who she thought was an antique dealer. He turned out to be 'The Umbrella Assassin', a cold war legend, who assassinated the Bulgarian dissident journalist Georgi Markov, with a poison pellet discharged from an umbrella. It's inspired her novel,'The Less Unkind', which tells the story of Pico, a young woman making her way in the world and forging new friendships, when she takes a job with a strange antique dealer... who turns out to be something different than he first seemed.Rosaria has lived all over, after being born in Tuscany, moving to Denmark, she founded a fashion start-up in Ireland, and is now living in Canada. We discuss how much where you live inspires what you write and how you write it. You can hear why she writes non-linearly and without a plot, which leads to a tricky edit smoothing the gaps of where chapters should join seemlessly. Also we chat about how to start your second novel when the first mines so much of your life, why a plot is like a flock of birds, and all about her day.Get a copy of the book at uk.bookshop.org/shop/writersroutineSupport the showpatreon.com/writersroutineko-fi.com/writersroutine@writerspodwritersroutine.com Hosted on Acast. We review heralded new Netflix show Adolescence and give our criticisms about its depiction of the cause of male violence against women being, primarily, that boys aren't loved and supported enough by men. Referencing Victoria Smith's book ‘Unkind', we reflect on the myth that violent men are misunderstood men who have not received enough kindness. Why was it such a sympathetic portrayal of a murderous boy? And where are the equivalents for crimes committed overwhelmingly by women, such as Munchausen syndrome by proxy? Why promote the myth that violent men are under loved and under appreciated? Also, the idea male violence against women is a problem of a lack of bonding between men is an odd one, when male bonding and their fraternity is the very basis of patriarchal rule over women that produces MVAW in the first place. Plus, the internet as a ‘thief in the night', fathers general lack of involvement in child rearing, the role of families modelling behaviours to children that are carried on into romantic dynamics later on, the responsibility of mothers to discipline sons, the impact of porn consumption at a young age, our hyper-sexual culture brought about by liberals, and the obvious need to ban young children off social media platforms.

SONNETCAST – William Shakespeare's Sonnets Recited, Revealed, Relived
With Sonnet 120 William Shakespeare draws a line under the explanations and excuses offered throughout the previous three sonnets for his own infidelities in relation to his young man, and simply reminds himself now of how awful he felt when his lover treated him in a similar way on those occasions when it was him who was sleeping around with other people. The conclusion Shakespeare comes to is that they both in turn have been through hell, and that their respective debt to each other for each other's transgressions now must surely cancel itself out.
From the early 1970s feminist activists from across the globe campaigned under a single demand – Wages for Housework. The historian Emily Callaci traces the lives and ideas of its key creators in her new book, Wages for Housework: The Story of a Movement, an Idea, a Promise. The campaign highlighted the need to change the way work, and especially what has been traditionally deemed women's work, is valued. Although men are still paid more than women, and women still play a greater role in the home, recent polling reveals that nearly half of Britons say women's equality has gone far enough. And that figure has been rising significantly in the last decade. Rosie Campbell, Professor of Politics at King's College London also points out that a growing number of young men believe it will be harder to be a man than a woman in 20 years' time.So is it time for women to stop campaigning and #JustBeKind? Definitely not, according to the writer Victoria Smith. In her new book, UnKind, she unpicks the kindness trend that emerged in the 2020s, and argues that women and girls have again been coerced into a passive role.Producer: Katy Hickman

Text: Prov 12:16-18 ESV 16 The vexation of a fool is known at once, but the prudent ignores an insult. 17 Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit. 18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. - Prov 12:16-18 ESV THE PRUDENT IGNORES AN INSULT The fortitude of the prudent is his calmness. He restrains the show of anger. The fool, however, when annoyed loses control and goes out of control. The root cause is his selfish arrogance. The righteous controls his emotions. He does not fly off the handle at the slightest provocation. This is the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22–23). The Lord Jesus is our example of self-control. According to Peter, He did not revile in return when He was reviled. Neither did He threaten others when He suffered. Instead, He "continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly" (1 Pet 2:23). Peter continues to write, "Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling…'whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.'"[1 Pet 3:9–11] As we move to verse 17, Solomon highlights once again the disparity of the righteous and wicked hearts. Honest people are honest, and liars lie. The person whose life is marked by natural, innate honesty gives trustworthy testimony (Mat 5:37). In contrast, the person who habitually lies can't be trusted, no matter what they say. Each person reveals his character by what he says. Having been filled by the Spirit, the apostles do speak the truth even when reprimanded. When the rulers, elders, and scribes commanded them not to speak or teach in Jesus' name, the apostles answered, "We cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard" (Acts 4:20). Furthermore, the wicked has sharp tongue. His rash words are like sword thrusts. These ‘rash words' involve speaking carelessly or thoughtlessly. There is a saying, "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words, never!" This could be true in some extent but words can cause damage of their own. The tongue can either be used to hurt others or to heal their anxieties and sorrows (Prov 12:25). Unkind words can pierce the heart like sharp swords. Snide remarks, gossip, undue criticism, cursing, name-calling, and false accusations hurt people, and should not be spoken by believers (Col 4:6). Indeed, the prudent has the ability to control one's tongue. He will consider words carefully before speaking. This is a hallmark of godly wisdom (Prov 10:19; 11:12; 17:28; Jas 3:2, 5). Believers are going to use words to build one another up not to tear down. (Eph 4:29) Paul admonishes, "Be kind to one another" (Eph 4:32). A prudent person will control and use his tongue to encourage others (1 Thess 4:18; Heb 10:24). He ignores an insult and even overcomes such evil by saying something good and edifying. ------------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram
Send us a textNo, I can't prove that the world is any more unkind than it was ten years ago or a thousand years ago. But I do know that I believe that is sees to be moving that way to me. The morning after was not kind to Vice President Kamala Harris, at least not at the leading national betting books. Already the betting favorite Monday by 9.2%, Republican former President Donald Trump surged to 17.2% by midday Thursday – the biggest headlines from each happening on Wednesday in interviews rather than campaign rallies. And each happened on the home of Fox News, a network known for the conservative lean to the right. Trump, appearing with Harris Faulkner on “The Faulkner Focus,” said transgender athletes competing in women's sports would be banned if he's given a second administration. Transgender woman means a person assigned the male sex at birth who identifies and lives femininely.

Welp, see ya. —!!! {embargo} I was serious enough, In my words and my ties For the sake of my bonds, Out of bounds and on Brooklyn bound trains, From Manhattan Machine washed field of fantasy, Outfitted for us all on the glory of a spring day In autumn, California heroine or lure, Folktales And superstardom Made of truth and of love, A new kind, The end of ages laced with wickedness A bounty on her words, The way of others are kind in their shadows, No one has called, And now, No one is watching Waiting, whisperer A different one, another kind The brief awaiting, Then there goes I Under the hidden sun, The Autumn come, The fall of man, The dawn of love, The synchronicity of sounds as songs The birds call home, No wonder the window was open. No books, All alone— To summon up my own galaxy Would be to wish I hadn't let tie me To worldly pleasure On fasting day— But yet again, Here calls my own nature, Needing to be needing to be wanted, Then withered, as it were, to something else. Hiding in your eyes, I am My love of natures kind Your hazel tides And ocean blue— The thought of jade, Who yet again Was meant for always, As I am only Darkness scorned beauty All of your luck, as my witness Forever to hear shadow To the wickedness of man Though we are not aligned, Still the same as many kind, I want not the slow churning Of being that, and this at all —as God is one And acts in many parts, All of us, Or some, Between set boundaries, Games of war, And for arguments sake, inquisitive Gestures of word fare, gameplay, Galleys and artfare— Begin to think you, me, And I, yourself, you— Lest we part in denial Of our dire cause To form man The Standard. Enter the corridors, The unclaimed nature Of travelers, in our time, Coming the wave of signs, Foreigners, Call watchers, Then and here, Come waiting, wanting to know glory, The foundation Of Love Light The faceless god Comes creeping in the night Seeking body to form Among the walking, A fiercety of weapons kind Explanations embellished with Seemingly meaningless Only wanting time to waste, Skinny and shallow, Part chef and waiting, None to others, at all, Therefore I now, part ways From waves and tides To become rain and ghosts, Beauty and wind, Lessons and learned sins, Therefore now I, Wait and wonder, Pondering to feed the birds Or quench the thirst For game and superstardom, Not only of hreatness, But ground in the greys and silvers of my hair Mustache and whiskers, Brows and hind eyes— Where are you now That I was upon waking, A mistress, But gathered now, Awakens under clouds of sun, To be another, Only formed as the ground crumbled under her Again, I live Again, I go where there is no light of sun By the shield of sight, And the whisp of this, That needs attention as such, To call I— A lost soul, But friendly enough ghost To have written songs in your partial kitewind. Then, said I— A watch upon the wrist would only tell time, But not the day or the place of arrival for I, Dear pardoned traveler, Have also come journeys Bound by galaxies grasp, To have whispered into ears, The things of Jesus You will wait for him As the curtain closes, To come again, though does he know not In which beast he will be But you, shadows Wait in his envy, The things you seek to ask and believe The greetings of long since foreshadowed bark Amongst you, believe now, A new tale of these things, As we bring peace, You are now In our forest, Whenever be you now Or forever, As all is eternal, As I am You are Fuck! Whatever that means! I know, right! Is this gonna happen every Friday now?! Every Friday you fast, yes! Goddamn! Or don't! I don't care, really. Up to you. Delicate rain falls from leather skies, Calling beasts of ours to nest in the calm and warm Mother of Grattitude, May I ask, Where are you now, That I've become humbled, And true to art, As having been asked, Now not scrolled upon stone walls Or scryed by fire, But in this age, Begot by light, Another monster of my mind, Shifted into these as saints, The words of songs and poems, The pages of unknown worlds, In the cyberspace, Perhaps, Also as cosmos, Also as thoughts Also as words Also as light— Also as species; These things are true to which I know With what knowledge you have gave me To think this way, Upon each breath— No attempt to be prolific, But to be at all Some wages as exchanged Material things not wanted, but needed And monetary gains, Also as thoughts now, But perhaps also cosmos True, or not? Fact, or fiction? Carson, or Fallon? What? Who wore the pants better. I— Quickly! I'm a dead man. (I'm sure they're both dead.) Hurry up! What the fuck! We're talking about two literal ghosts here! Justin Simmons not a Colt - yet. Reports have Colts GM Ballard and Simmons agent Todd France having conversations about Simmons becoming a Colt. I'm not buying it. Dak Prescott is not good enough to be a championship quarterback, so Cowboys owner Jerry Jones should never pay him elite money. How often are we hard on ourselves? How often do we deny our feelings or push through? What do we do when we REALLY see that we are being unkind? In this episode, we explore what to do when we observe harsh patterns. Resources Kristen Neff Brene Brown TED talk The post BOO428 – Encore – Being Unkind to Myself appeared first on Marcia Hyatt.
Sometimes the best nuggets of wisdom are found immediately after interviewing someone. Recently, I was video interviewing Scooters Coffee franchisee, Tracy Bouwens. After we finished, we discussed some common challenges of managing employees. Tracy told me that a common refrain in her workplace is, “Being unclear is unkind.” Tracy mentioned those times when we avoid ... I'm examining a Proverb a day to show us the way, because the book of Proverbs is wonderfully applicable to the situations we face in our everyday lives. Proverbs 6:2-5 gives us some very practical advice. You have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth. So do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor's hands: Go—to the point of exhaustion—and give your neighbor no rest! Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids. Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler (Proverbs 6:2-5). How many times have you wanted to crawl under a table because you said something you wished you hadn't? Perhaps they were words spoken in anger or haste, or words of gossip, or judgmental words. Unkind, untruthful, harsh, unnecessary words that inflicted harm of some kind. What do you do? You can't unsay them; you can't delete them; you can't erase them. Those words hang there in your memory and the memory of others. What can you do? Solomon says to go and humble yourself to the person your words harmed; go, confess to them, and do it immediately. Apologize and do all you can to free yourself from the damage of those words. Now, I know that's not easy to do. But it's a lot easier than not doing it! Once in a hotel on a business trip, I accused a hotel employee of neglecting to follow my instructions. I was certain I had given those instructions. So, nicely, but directly, I said, “I'm sure it's your fault; please correct it.” Well, a few minutes later I came to realize I was the one who was wrong, not him. It was embarrassing; I wanted to run away. But I forced myself to go to the phone, call the young man and apologize to him. Even a simple apology like that wasn't easy, but once I did it, I felt so free. And I could tell it made a big difference to him. He kept saying, "That's so nice of you to call. Thank you.” Well, it wasn't nice of me; it was the right thing to do. If you've offended someone with words, don't procrastinate. Go right now, today and apologize. That's good advice from Proverbs.

In this episode of the Matriarchy series, we explore how deeply ingrained patriarchal narratives can create a policing effect on the behavior of women. Author, Elise Loehnen, discusses her book "On Our Best Behavior" which examines how concepts like the seven deadly sins have historically been used to restrict women's behavior and police their adherence to an idealized form of "goodness." Loehnen unpacks the insidious ways women are culturally conditioned from a young age to suppress normal human drives like anger, ambition, and sexuality. And how disrupting rigid gender stereotypes is important when raising the next generation in order to build a more compassionate world. Jen and Elise discuss: How women are culturally conditioned and expected to embody "goodness" while men are oriented toward power How concepts like the "seven deadly sins" have historically been used as a patriarchal "punch card" to police women's behavior Why raising boys to have an emotional inner life nurtures positive identity development The current era of politics that calls for women to challenge the patriarchal system while also having compassionate dialogue to build a new, care-centered world where everyone can flourish * * * Thought-Provoking Quotes: “Women are trained for goodness and men are trained for power.” - Elise Loehnen “The worst thing for a woman is reputational harm--just the assigning of her badness. Bad mother. Toxic coworker. Toxic boss. Unkind. She says the wrong thing. And it's sort of impossible to defend yourself against that. We have zero tolerance, and it's very scary.” - Elise Loehnen "We need a culture where the men are like, 'I would like to be more like women. I need to be caring. I want to be nurturing and creative. And yes, I can be strong and I can be masculine, but I also need this underdeveloped muscle.'" - Elise Loehnen Resources Mentioned in This Episode: On Our Best Behavior by Elise Loehnen - https://bit.ly/44tz41D Goop - https://goop.com For the Love of Being Seen and Heard ft. In this week's episode, Michael confronts the perception of an unkind world perpetuated by news and social media. He explores the coexistence of kindness amidst conflict, suffering, injustice, and inequality, emphasizing that while unkindness exists, so does kindness – in acts big and small, and provides practical daily habits to cultivate kindness in a seemingly unkind world. The episode ends with a self-compassion guided meditation to help you focus on the kindness that exists within. In today's Cubs Talk podcast, James Neveau and Peter Marzano discuss Baseball Prospectus' PECOTA projections for the 2024 Cubs. Do they buy the Cubs as an 80-win team, and are they really second-best behind the Cardinals in the National League Central? Should Shota Imanaga and Hector Neris give them more of a boost? They discuss those questions, and also evaluate whether it's time to throw a bag of money at Cody Bellinger ahead of spring training, with the center fielder still on the market. Finally, the guys pick their favorite Cubs promo items of the year, as Pat Hughes and Christopher Morel both are immortalized in some unique ways.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
When we have a new year, we often reflect on what this new year will contain, offer, and what we'll experience. If you have problems...we often want them solved. We want them gone. Who would you be without the story "something is blocking my peace, happiness, dream"? The Work of Byron Katie is a practice of self-inquiry allowing us to work with stresses appearing in the mind, and to relax with our experience of life. Grace Bell, facilitator of The Work, assists people to identify and question their stressful ways of looking at life. She offers Year of Inquiry, a vibrant membership community of inquirers Sept-June each year. Grace also has a special love for those suffering from eating issues including disordered eating (disordered thinking) of all kinds--having suffered from this behavior and thought/feeling process herself and finding an unshakable peace within around eating, food, health and behaviors with eating. Grace works with all kinds of compulsions, habits and addictions as they are all the same thing: a pull to some behavior, substance or activity in order to help us with our stressful feelings and thoughts. As Byron Katie offers us (founder of The Work); when we believe what we think, it creates unnecessary suffering. When we question what we think, we feel lighter and less serious about what is. We even begin to laugh. We notice who we really are is peaceful already, a human being living life as best we can--learning, growing, loving. In the public sessions on this youtube channel, we have all-group inquiry sessions called First Friday Inquiry, we have interviews with practitioners of The Work, we have Eating Peace videos (on the eating peace playlist) and we have individual sessions in The Work by courageous people willing to be recorded for Peace Talk podcast and this channel. Thanks to everyone involved in what is shared here on this channel, as it is great service to others in the world who find their way here and who are curious about life without "believing" thought all the time. In all-group sessions and solo sessions, we begin with a judgment...and move into the four questions and turnarounds. Willingness to be real and honest with your thinking is the first powerful step in The Work. No one ever has to share when attending Friday Inquiry, and thank you when you do.
