Fabulous Film & Friends

Send us a Text Message. This week on Fabulous Film & Friends we've jumped on that bandwagon and got a full fledged case of Deadpool-mania!That means we're going to discuss all three of Ryan Reynolds happy little R-rated capers which started in 2016 with Deadpool directed by Tim Miller, starring Ryan Reynolds, TJ Miller Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapicic,  Ed Skrein, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Gina Carano. Then continued with 2018's Deadpool 2, directed by David Lietch and starring pretty much the same cast minus Skrein and Carano with the addition of Josh Brolin, Zazie Beets, Julian Dennison, and Rob Delaney. And capped off with the most marketed and hyped movie of my lifetime, 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Mr. Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as well as a good portion of the previous supporting cast in cameos along with Matthew MacFadyen and Emma Corrin as villains. I'm Gino Caputi and my solitary guest today is author, hypnotherapist and comic book shop royalty Joe Field. I have to announce that Deadpool & Wolverine raked in 440 million over the July 26th 2024 weekend, the highest opening weekend box office haul for an R rated film ever. Was it  Ryan Reynolds' and Hugh Jackman's over-the top marketing strategy of appearing on nearly every talk show and commercial for a month that helped or hurt its box office. Could it have been more if they hadn't seemed so transparently mercenary? Before we get into it, the synopses:Deadpool 1-3 are about Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. the “Merc with a Mouth” a cynical 4th wall breaking character who makes scores of naughty puns while killing bad guys in over-the-top grotesque CGI enhanced ways. His powers are just like Wolverine's, he's unkillable because he heals and regenerates faster than it takes for his body's functions to shut down due to loss of blood. Or something like that. Which Deadpool Film gets the killshot?Find out!Follow the FFF Facebook page!https://www.facebook.com/groups/fabulousfilmandfriendsWatch the podcast on Youtube:https://youtu.be/mJStFakR5RI

This Veteran's Day sees the release of Midway, Roland Emmerich's action-packed recounting of the Pacific front in WWII, starting from the attack on Pearl Harbor and building to the titular offensive that turned the tide in America's favor. We're not short of films depicting the Greatest Generation, but Midway does its level best to offer up a snapshot of the many figures involved in one of WWII's most pivotal battles. Central to the ensemble are Navy pilots and Pacific War heroes Richard "Dick" Best (Ed Skrein, Alita: Battle Angel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) and his best friend Clarence Earle Dickinson (Luke Kleintank, The Man in the High Castle, The Goldfinch), who evince the high-flying derring-do of Emmerich's battle-hardened cast.   I sat down with Skrein and Kleintank to discuss the responsibility that comes with honoring the sacrifices of America's Greatest Generation, the intense research that goes into playing such mythic real-life figures, and how much gum Skrein had to chew on set as his hotshot pilot. The Filmlosophers pick apart the cybernetic workings of the latest film from Director Rober Rodriguez, Alita: Battle Angel (2019). Rodriguez, alongside producer and co-writer James Cameron, set to change the landscape of anime-live action adaptations with their latest cinema offering! The film stars Rosa Salazar as the titular role, alongside the incredible Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and new-comer Keean Johnson. But does this film measure up to the expectations of anime and film fans, alike? Or will Alita: Battle Angel fall to the wayside much like its predecessors, and become a ghost of its former self?

Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective

With the release of Deadpool 2 upon us, we felt it a good time to jump on that astro-turfed viral-marketing highway and do the original. This is a movie right up Robert's alley, so we go with some maximum effort and fanboi out a touch. This goes a bit longer than we have as late but there’s plenty of discussion and mirth to be had on this episode. Enjoy. Show notes and more at: http://www.actualanarchy.com/77 Presented by www.ActualAnarchy.com Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking.   Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests. SUBSCRIBE, RATE AND REVIEW ON APPLE PODCASTS (or iTUNES)

The Filmlosophers, Eddie Villanueva, Chad Riley and Spencer Williams, wear their red shirts and brown pants for this week's review of Deadpool (2016). The long-in-development action comedy stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, the titular “Merc with a Mouth,” in an unapologetically crass performance that makes good on the film's R rating. With a sequel right around the corner, there's no better time than now to revisit this crudely entertaining spectacle of violence, vulgarity and fourth-wall-breaking humor. Directed by Tim Miller, the film also stars Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, and Stefan Kapičić. The sequel, Deadpool 2 (2018), bows in theaters this weekend.
