But, as the tagline for the movie says, "sooner or later, family secrets creep out." And in this movie, something actually does creep out! Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr, and Cleopatra Coleman star in Cobweb (2023).

I wasn't in Speed! It's Pride and we're proud to be here with Veronica Cartwright. You Might Know Her From Alien, The Witches of Eastwick, The Birds, The Children's Hour, Will & Grace, The Right Stuff, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Inserts, and The X-Files. Veronica talked to us about her proper role in the queer canon byway of the Scissor Sisters, Jerry Herman, and StraightJacket; the trans retcon via James Cameron of Lambert in Alien; and her performance in the old Hollywood lesbian film The Children's House opposite Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine. And that's just the beginning! We also got to dig into her iconic roles on The X-Files as an abductee in one of the scariest arcs of all time, her rubber-faced scene-stealing scenes in The Witches of Eastwick, working with Alfred Hitchock...multiple times, and her criminally underseen performance in Inserts. What a goddamn treat. And no, she wasn't in Speed. Happy Pride, queerdos, we love you! Would you see a musical adaptation of "The Notebook" or "Back to the Future"? Maybe "Water for Elephants" or "The Great Gatsby" is more your thing. These are just some examples of how movies are now being adapted into musicals, rather than the other way around. Co-host Bruce Miller talks about his recent trip to New York where he spent a week seeing some of the hottest shows on Broadway, plus he shares his experience getting an autograph from Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, after a performance of "Merrily We Roll Along." And do you remember around this time last year, when films like "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and "Fast X" were making a splash at the box office? 2024's summer movie season is stumbling after a sluggist opening for "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" over Memorial Day weekend. The family-friendly fim "IF" has struggled. And even this year's box office leader, "Dune: Part Two," has yet to yet to reach $300 million domestic. (You can see the full list at Box Office Mojo.) We discuss some of the problems facing the industry, most notably the quick move to streaming services. And finally, the new FX for Hulu limited series "Clipped" begins June 4. It features Ed O'Neill as Donald Sterling, the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleopatra Coleman as V. Stiviano. Hear from both stars on this week's episode. Contact us! We want to hear from you! Email questions to podcasts@lee.net and we'll answer your question on a future episode! About the show Streamed & Screened is a podcast about movies and TV hosted by Bruce Miller, a longtime entertainment reporter who is now the editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa and Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer for Lee Enterprises based in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mathula joins Caitlin to cover 2023's Cobweb. (Mathula's pups also join for a bit of background ambiance, but they fade out after the plot synopsis.) Cobweb is a creepy, Halloween-time movie with strong visuals, cool kills, and a memorable monstrous femme figure. And an easily identifiable Busey! Tangents include: crocs, Seth Rogen and his pottery, sequels, Tubi (sponsor the pod, please, we love you), limbs and fins, Matthew Dragonnaughey, fish sticks vs nuggets, living to 200 years old, food combinations, caffeine, falling asleep to movies, exotic pets (marsupial squad), horror TV, and mummies vs zombies. Be sure to check out Mathula's art at Hallelujah Dystopia!
Today we are talking about the 2023 horror movie Cobweb, starring Lizzy Caplan, Antony Starr & Cleopatra Coleman. Cobweb sees an eight-year-old boy trying to investigate the mysterious knocking sounds that are coming from inside the walls of his house. Maddie and Colleen join Caitlin to cover Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool. We look at themes of wealth, privilege, hedonism, exploitative tourism, and ethics. But most importantly, we relish the opportunity to do impressions of Mia Goth's deranged baby voice and discuss Skarsgard on a leash. Tangents include: Colleen's delightful fixations, Caitlin's borderline unhealthy obsession with her friends, Maddie's trip to FRAHHHNCE, Culkins vs Skarsgards, board game failures (oopsie), celebrity hair, fantasy pets, sandwiches, bird poop, deer, cryptids, bigfoot erotica, cosplay, eye rolling, Swifties/Gaylors, infinity pools, scary insects, clones, favorite meals, and friendship love fests. Shoutout to AC for being the question MVP this episode. Be sure to check out My Cryptid's Keeper and Roll 4 Improv. We were just being silly gooses, your honor!

Ben & Rob climb the walls of ‘Cobweb', a horror movie that distributor Lionsgate has done its best to bury under the pumpkin patch. Starring Lizzy Caplan, Anthony Starr, Cleopatra Coleman and Woody Norman, ‘Cobweb' tells the story of Peter, a young boy living with bizarre parents uniquely ill-equipped to help him with the monster living in his walls. Produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg under their ‘Point Grey' brand, it starts out as a psychological horror and ends up a beautifully bloody creature feature. But why have Lionsgate done so little in promoting this little b-movie genre gem? Is Anthony Starr one the best dramatic actors working today? And why does this movie remind Ben of ‘JAWS'? I don't know what is scarier, the unchecked power of the wealthy, the surprise reach-arounds, or the conspicuous lack of eyebrows. Synopsis An american couple James and Em Foster (Alexander Skarsgård and Cleopatra Coleman) take a resort vacation to the tropical island of La Tolqa to rekindle their relationship and to break James out of writers block. While there, they Gabi (Mia Goth) who is a big fan of James' previous novel, and is excited to show them the island outside of the confines of the luxurious resort. Despite warning that it's dangerous off-grounds, they spend a day with Gabi and her husband Alban picnicking and drinking on the beach. Tragedy strikes and James finds himself at the mercy of the brutal and surreal Justice system of La Tolqa. Narrowly escaping punishment James discovers that the true horrors of the island lie with the decadent and hedonistic tourists that take advantage of the bizarre world of the island. Review of Infinity Pool This is the second Brandon Cronenberg film that we have reviewed on the show. And this film shares a lot of the brutality and dreamlike aspects of his previous film Possessor. Infinity Pool examines the horrors of the uber wealthy escaping justice while flaunting it for their entertainment. It goes from a relatively normal to progressively more surreal and hedonistic, and end with full on existential horror. It's a weird mix of the show White Lotus, Eyes Wide Shut, and Total Recall. That being said, this film is very unique. There are enough twists and turns that it stays engaging throughout the runtime. The combination of excellent acting and directing really sells the movie. Even though there is a prevalence of dream logic and nightmarish qualities, it stays grounded in the perspective of James. Skarsgard does a great job of emoting the inner world of James and we get to experience his pride, shame, hubris, and debauchery in a way that feels real. With a hard R rating, we are treated to plenty of the ol sex and ultra violence. It pulls no punches with either, yet they don't feel exploitative or arbitrary since they both work to serve the story. Score 8/10 Follow Jay! In this episode James flies solo to tell us about two new horror films he thinks are worth checking out, Skinamarink & Infinity Pool. Skinamarink is a 2022 Canadian experimental supernatural horror film written and directed by Kyle Edward Ball in his feature directorial debut. Infinity Pool is a 2023 science fiction horror film written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth and Cleopatra Coleman. Infinity Pool is a 2023 science fiction horror film written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, starring Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth and Cleopatra Coleman. The film follows a struggling writer and his wife on vacation who, after an accident, discover the country's dark culture. Cronenberg started developing the project in 2019, with production later being pushed back to 2021. Much of the cast joined the project that year and filming took place primarily in Šibenik, Croatia. Infinity Pool premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2023, and was theatrically released in Canada on January 27, 2023, by Elevation Pictures. The film received positive reviews from critics, with praise for the atmosphere and Cronenberg's direction but also criticism of its plot and storyline. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/popcorn-junkies/message
Cleopatra Coleman's already accomplished quite a bit in film and television, but 2023 is looking to be an especially big year for the soaring star.First she starred opposite Mia Goth and Alexander Skarsgård in Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool, a film about a couple who learn about an especially twisted law in the fictional seaside country of Li Tolqa. After being sentenced to death for hitting and killing a local man while driving back to their resort, Skarsgård's James learns there's a way out — but only for the wealthy. For a hefty price, James can pay to be cloned and have that duplicate executed in his place.Soon after Infinity Pool arrived on January 27th, A Lot of Nothing made its way into theaters. In that one, Coleman stars opposite Y'lan Noel as Vanessa and James, a couple who opt to take matters into their own hands when they find out their neighbor is the LAPD officer responsible for the latest instance of an officer killing an unarmed victim.Next up on Coleman's 2023 schedule? Zack Snyder's new movie — the highly anticipated epic space opera Rebel Moon due out on Netflix on December 22nd.In celebration of a year packed with highly unique films, stellar collaborators, and loads of significant promise for the future, Coleman joined me for a Collider Ladies Night interview to explain how she went from making short films with her father to working with renowned forces in Hollywood like Snyder, Cronenberg, Goth, Noel, Kaitlyn Dever, and many more. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Today in Aggett's book club IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON gets the spotlight! In the shadow of the Moon is a 2020 Netflix movie directed by Jim Mickle and written by Gregory Weidman and Geoffrey Tock. This is the tag - A Philadelphia police officer struggles with a lifelong obsession to track down a mysterious serial killer whose crimes defy explanation. Immediately the trailer intrigued me with its darkened style and police chases and action. I have been longing for something to look and feel the outstanding Se7en for a long long time. This, I think, had slight similarities in style, at times. As I got into the film I began trying to figure out where I knew the characters from and it surprised me to realise that... one of them was Dexter! ANNNND I have only watched one episode of it. Can I hear the booos through the medium of blog?! Perhaps. Anyway, the cast is well-fitting. Boyd Holbrook plays a Philly Police officer named Locke. I like this character. After a run-in with a strange and mysterious woman, post some very strange deaths! tragedy strikes his life. What unfoldes is the spiralling detective Locke dedicating his entire life (quite literally) in the search of this woman that only appears in a certain pattern. That woman is Cleopatra Coleman, she plays Rya. The mysterious one. It is a classically styled cop thriller in a damp and dark city until Locke begins to track down this woman while he neglects his family in the process. Then I can only describe him looking like Ron Burgandy when the news team was dispanded. Despite the way he gets to look throughout the film Boyd Holbrook played the lead character very well and this polished film left me wanting more. I do think that perhaps they could have made more out of the big twist... that I DIDNT SEE COMING! Which I won't mention any more of. To round up this scrappy review. I expected a gritty cop detective thriller, I got something slightly different and was pleasantly surprised. It is like digging into your winter jacket pocket to find something and accidentally finding some cash instead. #Win So this film pleased me despite its occasional slow-building moments. I give this movie 7 zombie heads out of 10! It is on our website blog that you can read here and see the trailer. Jason Bourque is the Indiana Jones of the Vancouver film and television industry. He's a filmmaking adventurer who has traveled far and wide to bring his breathtaking stories to the big screen. Jason spent four months in Doha, Qatar filming Medinah, the world's first Arabic and English science fiction series, and traveled to Mumbai, India to film several key scenes for Drone, his 2017 subversive political drama that starred Sean Bean and Patrick Sabongui.Jason didn't go quite as far for Black Fly, his 2014 thriller about a pair of brothers, one of whom happens to be a serial killer, but it was no less atmospheric – and being an in-demand director of television movies, he's had to bring his director's toolkit to all manner of exterior locations all over the Lower Mainland. Jason is also a busy producer who has several projects cooking at the moment, including Godrey, an independent starring Cleopatra Coleman, Nick Thune, and Iliza Shlesinger, and not one but two Telefilm features, including one directed by friend of the podcast Shannon Kohli. In this compelling interview, Jason talks about blowing up a car in India and staging a murder in the GVRD, the issues faced by Canadian directors who want to direct on American productions, the dangers of having an argument within Jason's earshot, and what it was like to grow up next door to a serial killer.
