Their stories of creativity and persistence were truly inspiring. Paul had the opportunity to interview Tom Blyth and Donald De Line from the MGM+ show Billy the Kid. Their conversation delved into the making of the show and the challenges they faced. Mike attended the panel for Resident Alien, which featured star Alan Tudyk. Mike provides an in-depth look at the panel discussion and Tudyk's engaging presence. Mike also attended a panel for showrunners, while Paul explored the art of monologues in Mike Flanagan's work. These sessions offered valuable insights into different aspects of TV production and storytelling. The day concluded with Pod Clubhouse's exciting evening at a reception arranged by Universal Studio Group. Did this movie successfully portray Snow's origin story? Listen as Olivia and Emily dig into why this film wasn't a standout, the difficulties of book-to-movie adaptations, how the pacing and directing were off, and why prequels are so intriguing. In this episode, Olivia and Emily discuss the film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Viola Davis, and Peter Dinklage, released in November 2023.
Keeping up with a retrospective we started years ago can be eye opening. Here we have a review of a movie that is a prequel (boy, where have we heard that before?) to a series that one of us was a fan of, one of us was ambivalent on, and one of us had conspiracy theories about. Welcome, to our Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Listen to the boys refresh peoples' minds about where they stand on the series, and then dive into the new Viola Davis/Peter Dinklage starring prequel that tells the early life story of Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blyth here, Donald Sutherland in the original series. Will Matt have a better feeling about how they handle this as opposed to the just reviewed Star Wars prequels? Listen below to find out!

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes In a surprising move to keep us all on our toes, at the premiere for season two of What If? Marvel Studios recently announced a Black Panther spinoff show called Eyes of Wakanda, which will premiere next year on Disney+. If the news from Wakanda wasn't exciting enough to fans, those who attended the premiere also received the privilege of sneak peeks for X-Men ‘97 and Spider-Man: Freshmen Year, which has been renamed to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, PLUS the studio confirmed a third season for What If?. Ahead of the highly-anticipated third installment in Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool series, set photos are being shared with abandon as drone shots show off more of the movie than the Star wants. Reynolds took to Instagram for a global plea that requested the leaks stop saying, “Surprises are part of the magic of theatrical movies,” and citing the leaks as a “difficult situation.” Reynolds' post finished with him mentioning that spoilers occur when fans are excited AND talking of his enjoyment about making this movie. The 2024 Golden Globe nominations are in and the leaders will surprise nobody, with Barbie and Succession topping the boards with nine nominations each. Other buzzworthy films and shows with many chances to sweep awards are Oppenheimer, The Bear, Killers of the Flower Moon, Only Murders in the Building, Poor Things, and The Crown. Some noted projects that did not garner any noms are Napoleon, Ferrari, Origin, and Swarm. Next year's awards show will premiere two new categories: Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. This year's Golden Globes will be the first held without the oversight of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which has opened the voting opportunity to a more ethnically and racially diverse voting group made up of 300 journalists from 76 different countries. The Wall Street Journal reported Angelina Jolie has officially signed on to reprise her role as Maleficent for a third film in the series. Amazon released the first teaser trailer for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the reboot series of the 2005 film of the same name, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The new series stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine and will drop in its entirety on Prime on February 2. Tom Blyth, the breakout star of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, signed on to star in a film adaptation of Ernest Hemmingway's World War I novel A Farewell To Arms. The project will begin filming next year. Warner Bros. Discovery signed a multiyear U.S. output deal with studio A24, bringing the entertainment company's slate of films exclusively to Max for streaming after their theatrical runs. Peacock renewed the action-comedy series Twisted Metal starring Anthony Mackie for a second season. According to Deadline, Sean Gunn will play the evil businessman Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe that is helmed by his brother James Gunn. It is not yet clear if Sean Gunn will make an appearance in the upcoming Superman Legacy or if he will appear in different future DC projects. Netflix renewed the animated drama series Blue Eye Samurai for a second season. After a series of concerning reports about Marvel Studios' Blade film, Mahershala Ali addressed the state of the project. “We're working on it. That's the best I could tell you,” Ali said, speaking to Entertainment Weekly. “I'm really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we'll be back at it relatively soon.” Godzilla Minus One, now at $14.36 million at the box office, is currently the highest grossing live-action Japanese film in North America. This follows an opening weekend that marked the biggest Stateside debut of a foreign film this year.

Brenna and Joe return to Panem for The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, directed by franchise regular Francis Lawrence. While Joe struggles with the transition from Part 2 to 3, Brenna is unconvinced by lead actor Tom Blyth or the romance between Snow and Lucy Gray.We do, however, have plenty of praise for Viola Davis, Hunter Schafer and Jason Schwartzman, as well as the costume design and the politics of the dystopia.Perhaps it simply needed to be a (mini)series instead of a 2 hour 40 minute movie?Missed our discussion of the book? Can you tell the SAG-AFTRA strike is over after several long months, folks? We sure can, because the Empire Podcast this week was besieged by big-name Hollywood actor-types, all keen to appear on the podcast after months of walking up and down outside studios with picket signs. First up, the wonderful Rachel Zegler returns to the pod to talk to Sophie Butcher about starring in the Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad Of Songbirds and Snakes, and brings her British co-star, Tom Blyth, with her. Then, John Nugent sits down on Zoom for an engrossing chat about Killers Of The Flower Moon and the history surrounding it and the Osage people with that film's breakout star, Lily Gladstone. And then, because it's British Actors Named Tom Week, apparently, the one and only Tom Hiddleston — Loki himself — returns to the pod for a chat with Chris Hewitt about the triumphant final episode of season 2 of Loki. Now, bear in mind, this is a lengthy excerpt from our spoiler special interview (which is available now in full, fact fans), so do not listen to it until you've seen Loki s2. So we've placed it right at the end of the pod (1:45:16.00 - 2:01:42.00, to be precise-ish) for the spoiler-averse. Then, in the podbooth, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer and, for a spell, John Nugent to discuss the worst presents they've ever bought each other, John Candy movies, the week's movie news (there's a lot of MCU and MCU-adjacent stuff this week, you'll be shocked to hear) and to review May December, Saltburn, and that Hunger Games movie with the long title. Welcome back, actors — we missed you! Enjoy.

For a franchise fan like me, it was a joy to spend time in Panem again. Tom Blyth shines in the central role of Coriolanus Snow, providing a simultaneously tragic and infuriating villain origin story. The strength of this prequel remains the amount of details and history about people and events from The Hunger Games series that it fills in and seeing them visualized was very satisfying.
