If you do not know who you are, the world will tell you who you are. And If you lead from a place of who you think you should be instead of who you truly are, it will take a toll on you and those around you. There is immense effort put into editing instead of owning your multiplicities, leaving you exhausted and confused. You also give up your power and give up what is most sacred in you when you do not make room for embracing the beautiful multiplicities in you and in all of us when you filter yourself. But when you begin to unpack the burdens you carry that impact how you show up in the world, you can embrace all of your multiplicities instead of trying to fit into a mold of what you think the world wants you to be.It can take a lot of effort sorting through the noise and the baggage you carry to figure out who you are and to embrace all of your identities. My guest today hit a wall in her own life and found the power of embracing all of her multiplicities instead of trying to fit into a mold that never really fit her. Reverend Sarah Heath is an ordained United Methodist clergywoman. Sarah has been in ministry for a long time. And, as is often the case, people who “do ministry” every day get to a point where they just need to take a break. The relentless pace is just unsustainable. That, along with the normal pressures of everyday life, can leave a person feeling completely overwhelmed. Jonathan Martin knows all about this. After starting a church, pastoring, going through a divorce, moving, writing, pastoring some more, and in the process of it all, finding himself again, Jonathan is the perfect person to talk to Sarah about her decision to take a renewal leave from the church. This is part 1 of a 2-part conversation. On this episode, Jonathan helps Sarah realize that by taking a renewal leave, she’s doing the right thing - for herself, her relationships, and her ministry. The best thing she can do is learn how to slow down … and … just … stop. Sarah Heath is the host of Sonderlust the Podcast. But there’s a reason Bethany challenged Sarah to go dark on social media for a week (it all started after watching the “Nosedive” episode of Black Mirror). And now, Sarah wants YOU to join her on this cleanse. Are you in? Here are the rules:For the week after this episode airs (May 1 - May 7), commit to no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat or any other social media. You can still email, text, listen to podcasts and use the internet in general. But we recommend that you either delete the social media apps from your phone for the week, or just do whatever you can to make the apps less accessible and tempting. Also, turn off all social media notifications and alerts on your phone, iPad or watch so they don’t distract you or make you tempted to check them. You can use the hashtag #sonderlustcleanse when you post your last social media post before going dark, and when the cleanse is done, Sarah and Bethany would love to hear about your experience and what you got out of it. This is going to be fun! (At least that’s what Sarah keeps telling herself…)If you’d like to connect with Bethany, email her at bethanywood.healthcoach@gmail.comSarah Heath is the host of Sonderlust the Podcast. Poema S3 003 | Sarah Heath Is Finding Her Sonderlust

Poema Podcast

My dear friend Sarah Heath returns to the podcast today. Laat summer, challenged by her best friend, Sarah embarked on a journey into herself, going out of her comfort zone, trying to create the life she'd been running from. To find her 'Sonderlust'. (Or, you could say, find her Poema....) Sarah is in the midst of this challenge now - to step back out into the world of dating after hiding away for so long, to be living in a place she loved, and love her work. If in a year she doesn't find happiness and joy, then she's committed to moving wherever her best friend tells her to go. To build happiness or make a drastic change. This journey has led to her creating a podcast to chart her journey publicly, called 'Sonderlust'. The challenge has already brought up lots of issues around dating, realtionships, self-care, health, work, and identity. And she's still figuring this all out. Sarah joins me in the midst of this journey, to share with honesty and wisdom about the lessons she's already learned, the challenges she's faced - and how this is a reflection of all of our journeys, into finding meaning and purpose to our lives, and stepping out of our comfort zones to create the life we've always wanted.  I can't wait for you to hear this episode.

In this episode Taber talks with Kishi Bashi (K for short). This interview is from 2 years ago, before the Tour D'oeuvres Podcast was started. It was the first interview Taber had ever done and as a result he and Jojo decided to make the podcast. To help with the interview, Taber recruited his good friend and previous Tour D'oeuvres guest, Drew Kirby. When this interview was recorded K had just released his 3rd studio album, Sonderlust. Taber and Drew were invited to K's studio to listen to and discuss the album. Unique to this episode is the addition of music throughout the conversation. With his laptop handy K took us through some of the songs on the album and explained different aspects of the writing/recording process. He also shared some of his favorite bands and the groups whose music helped inspire the new album. Other topics include K's background in Jazz, his musical career from his first band, Jupiter One, to playing for Regina Spektor, to joining of Montreal and to eventually headlining tours around the country and around the world.
