Mike Decker is Lead pastor at Palm Harvest Church in Costa Mesa California. http://www.palmharvest.com
Brian Brodersen, Kike Tores, Richard Cimino, Manolo Matos speak with Mike Neglia about the intricacies of pastoral ministry, beyond the obvious and public preaching responsibilties. These wise men highlight the roles and needs of pastors in nurturing and developing mature followers of Jesus. It addresses the challenges pastors face, the importance of pastoral teams, and strategic investments. The conversation also examines church growth motives, the significance of faithfulness to God's calling, and the necessity of being in the right position within the church. It concludes with a reflection on redefining success in pastoral ministry. This conversation was recorded at the Calvary Chapel Pastors and Leaders Conference in Costa Mesa California in June of 2024. Hello to you listening in Costa Mesa, California!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Maybe like me you know molasses but not it's British cousin treacle. Think thick, dark, viscous, sticky syrup. Good for treating snakebites and industrial food use.Maybe there have been days when you've felt like you're slogging through treacle to get to the other side; but can't quite make it. Maybe progress on your project seems impossible. Or, you can't work out the next step, figure out a course of action no mater how hard you try. Now what? It could be as simple as recognizing that you're at an impasse. This feeling is a red flag saying your state of mind has shifted, you will not do your best work by muscling through. It's a good time to walk away, take a break, focus on something else, or invite help. How long will it take to restore your sense of clarity? It depends. What matters is that you've noticed something's hindering your forward progress. That's your wisdom speaking! Practical Tip: Maybe a reframe of the situation will restore your state of mind. Consider your options based on prior experiences. When has something like this happened to you before? How did you overcome it? What lesson learned then can apply to now? Take your time sorting it out. After all, treacle is just sticky syrup. You're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Since our preaching builds, affirms and creates the culture of our churches, it is vitally important that we emphasize and consistently hold out not only the gospel itself, but the cultural implications thereof. In this workshop, given at the CGN International Pastors and Leaders Conference in Costa Mesa California back in June of 2022, Mike Neglia, Tim Chaddick and Nick Cady speak about the opportunities (and limitations) of the pulpit for shaping, upholding and communicating gospel culture in the lives of our churches. “As the pastor, you are the primary shaper of the church's culture. Because you preach most frequently, your beliefs and values are far more influential in steering the culture of the church. What matters to you usually defines what matters to the church. This influence is a grave privilege” - Deepak Reju + Jeremy PierreNick Cady is the lead pastor of White Fields Community Church in Longmont, Colorado.Prior to moving to Longmont in 2012, Nick spent 10 years as a missionary, pastor and church planter in Hungary working with Calvary Chapel. He holds a Bachelors degree in Theology from the University of Gloucestershire (UK) and a Masters degree in Integrative Theology from London School of Theology.Nick is on the steering committee of the Expositors Collective, a growing network of pastors, leaders, and laypeople which exists to equip, encourage, and mentor the next generation of Christ-centered preachers by hosting training seminars and providing resources, including a weekly podcast. He also serves with Calvary Global Network as a Local Connector and has developed Cultivate, a program to assess, train, and deploy new church planters and missionaries. You can keep up with Nick on Twitter at @nickcady, on Instagram at @cadynick, or by subscribing to the White Fields Church podcast.Tim Chaddick is the Pastor for Preaching at Reality Ventura and Founding Pastor of Reality Church London and Reality LA. A native to California, Tim's first ten years of church-planting ministry started as the Lead Pastor of Reality LA in 2006, a thriving church in the heart of Hollywood, before planting Reality London in the UK in 2016. This week's guest is entrepreneur, visionary, and tastemaker, Jay Lewis, who had the dream of recreating the ideal Aussie eatery in Southern California. His 20 years of experience across multiple industries propelled him to the forefront of his chosen ventures time and time again. Beginning with the design and apparel business, Jay created a successful brand with multiple retail locations and a strong wholesale presence in Australia’s Gold Coast. In 2009, Jay took his apparel expertise to the shores of Southern California, where he created a fashion collective that includes a women’s contemporary fashion brand and a firm specializing in immersing Australian brands into the US marketplace through PR, marketing, and distribution. With his Australian roots firmly grounded in U.S. soil, he saw an opportunity to create a gourmet coffee and organic food experience reminiscent of those from his hometown on the Gold Coast. In 2015, he opened Outpost Kitchen to rave reviews in Southern California, and now has a second location at South Coast Metro that offers an extended menu, dinner and cocktails.https://outpostkitchen.comVisit Locay on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/outpostkitchen/#hospitalitygurus #restaurant #hospitalitypodcast#restaurantpodcast#culinaryhouse #foodandwine #foodandbeverage #bar#cafe #brewery #winery#foodandwine #foodblogger #newpodcast#newandnoteworthy#hospitalityconsultant #hospitalityconsulting#hospitalityconsultants#hospitalityexperts #podcast #foodpodcast

What happens when you bring 2 guests on a podcast who both have Leadership roles in their quiver as Mayors of their respective cities and also a similar faith background, but probably disagree in other areas of politics, say their View of Donald Trump, toppling down of statues and such. In this episode I am lucky enough to chat with Drew Brahs from Harper Barbecue in Costa Mesa, California. See Harper Barbecue on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/harperbarbecue Info on their Hibatchi Grills(https://www.instagram.com/p/CBgla17B0O-/) 11 x 15 - $ 350 16 x 18 - $ 450 16 x 36 - $ 800 (the largest with 2 grates AND a flat top) Current lead time as of airing for pits on trailers is 8-10 months and 4-5 months on backyard pits(you should check via DM though). They will be launching the website shortly with our hibachis and fire pits, so continue to follow them on Instagram for updates. My conversation with Drew was great. This was essentially 'the unintentional business that became this...' He and his partner Brian have been cranking out pits for the likes of The Offset Barbecue(https://www.instagram.com/theoffsetbbq/) who bought Harper's first pit on Craigslist, Helberg Barbecue(https://www.instagram.com/helbergbarbecue), Herc's Barbecue(https://www.instagram.com/hercsbarbecue), Holy Trinity Barbecue(https://www.instagram.com/holytrinitybarbecue), Breakwater Barbecue(https://www.instagram.com/breakwaterbarbecue), Republic Craft Barbecue(https://www.instagram.com/republicue_), 3rd Degree BBQ(https://www.instagram.com/3rd_degree_bbq/), Neighbors BBQ(https://www.instagram.com/neighbors_barbecue), Heritage Craft Barbecue( https://www.instagram.com/heritagebarbecue/), Johnnys BBQ(https://www.instagram.com/johnnysbarbeque), and Horn Barbecue(https://www.instagram.com/hornbarbecue). He grew up in the Costa Mesa/Newport area and worked in a fish market in the early days(gained a ton of knowledge through this), went to military school, then through a number of detours started welding pits, which turned into this business. He goes in depth about their upcoming brick and mortar(opening around mid 2021) which sounds incredible. Along with insane Central Texas style there will be smoked fish on the menu as well as smoked oysters(he's bee a fisherman his whole life). Also, he is planning on having steak nights and a creative bar menu on the days they are open into the evening. Right now they are shooting for being open 4-5 days a week. There used to be a time when a lot of missionaries to the world came out of the United States. This time it seems like the US is receiving them from other places in the world. In this episode we are talking with Gabe Andrade, a missionary from Brasil (and apparently a great Cook too, we can't wait to find out soon!). At only 21 years old he was called to come to Costa Mesa and now he is known as the "Estancia guy" because he is part of another Christian Club in this Highschool. Mili and him are talking about how the 2 clubs can work together. Mili is gonna share how her spiritual CPR lessons are gonna bring an awakening! What does Private Equity investment, diversity in Applied Behavior Analysis, and Behavior Analysis as applied to sports all have in common? It just so happens that these are the topics I chatted about with Beverly and Kirk Kirby of Team ABA! At last year's ABAI, Rick Kubina introduced me to this dynamic duo, and boy do they have a great story to tell, and I'm frankly quite grateful that they're doing so on The Behavioral Observations Podcast. Along with Rick and Mark Dixon, Beverly was on a panel that I chaired that discussed the role of big money in ABA. Mark discussed the business side of PEAK and Rick talked about the founding and subsequent purchase of Chartlytics by Central Reach. And then Beverly shared the story of how the Kirby's started the Sparks Group, a company that was dedicated to serving the underserved in the DC Metro area. Sparks went on to be acquired by a private equity investor, and Beverly shared the lengthy and challenging process of selecting an investor that would continue to provide high quality ABA services in an ethical manner. Whether you're a business owner or not, this is a great story on its own! The Kirby's went on to found the aforementioned Team ABA (and as an aside, check out and follow their Facebook page here as they post lots of cool stuff!). The services Team ABA provides are quite varied, but a lot of their focus is on using ABA for improving sports performance, addressing wellness, and helping organizations run more effectively. And if you caught the last episode with Rick, he mentioned some of the cool stuff that they're doing in the realm of sports performance. We of course dig into this in more detail in this episode. The Kirby's are also passionate about improving the diversity in our field. They've done quite a bit of outreach to Historically Black Colleges to provide internships and other opportunities for students of color. This is an issue that does not get talked about a lot in our field, and to be candid, this is a long-overdue discussion on this podcast. I’m grateful they were able to share this with me, and by extension, the broader audience of Behavioral Observations. This episode is brought to you by: Behavior University. Behavior University provides university-quality continuing education for everyday practitioners. To learn more about their CE offerings, discounts for podcast listeners, etc... please visit behavioruniversity.com/observations. The University of Cincinnati Online. I'm also excited to promote this upcoming workshop: Have you ever been part of a team composed of capable, accomplished members that underachieved or failed to launch an initiative successfully? Do you work with teams where members burn out, conflict, misbehave, or act in ways that contradict the purpose of the group? Are you currently working with other people toward a common goal and aiming to ensure that every member is empowered for maximum contribution and long-term sustainable engagement? Then consider attending the OBM 2.0 – The PROSOCIAL Teaming Model which will be taught by Drs. Darnell Lattal and Thomas Szabo. This workshop is being put on by my friends at Connections Behavior Planning and Intervention. It’s being held at Green River Community College, Auburn, Washington on January 18th and 19th. Attendees will learn the ProSocial model: evidence-based practices to promote employee engagement, cooperation, high-level performance, and complex organizational problem-solving. The ProSocial approach incorporates findings from Nobel Prize winning research conducted by Elinor Ostrom, with corresponding findings from research in evolutionary science, behavior analysis, ACT, and Organizational Behavior Management. Participants will practice core skills and then implement them in a series of challenging role-plays that simulate real-life organizational behavior crises. This workshop will walk attendees through the entire process of creating sustainable team-based outcomes through expert instruction and experiential learning. The workshop itself will provide 16 CEU’s, and there’s a remote follow-up option that can extend this to 22 CEU’s. Space is limited for this event, and the prices go up as we get closer to the dates, so you’re going to want to register for OBM 2.0 straight away. And to help defray costs, the folks at Connections have offered listeners a discount. So for more information, click here, and be sure to use the code podcast25! And this one too... The 5th Annual ABA Leadership Summit is taking place on November 8th, 2019 at the Hilton Orange County in Costa Mesa California. It will also be streamed online, so you can learn on your couch... in sweatpants. This event will provide 6 Supervision Type 2 CE’s, and will feature speakers such as Sarah Trautman, Paul Gavoni, Nic Weatherly, Brett DiNovi, and Issac Bermudez. It's right around the corner so you'll want to register right away if this is something you're interested in. Click here for more information! Lastly, I am deeply grateful for the folks at Tate Behavioral for inviting me, Megan Miller, Ryan O’Donnell, and Kim Berens to be a part of the first annual Tate Behavioral Conference last week in Springfield MA. They were amazing hosts, and it was an honor to be a part of their inaugural event.

Andy Leach is the owner of Cal Automotive Creations where he and Ron Cizek, and their team build custom cars. His father got him into cars at the age of 14 and his first car was a 1937 Ford that he learned how to weld and form metal on. He worked with Troy Trepanier at Rad Rides by Troy for 5 years where he honed his talents. Andy and Ron built a 1940 Ford they titled Checkered Past and won the 2013 Ridler Award which was an incredible accomplishment given it was the first car out of their newly formed shop. I had the honor of meeting Andy at The Classic Auto Show in Costa Mesa California where I interviewed him on their Celebrity Stage along with his friend Wayne Carini, another past Cars Yeah guest.
Cori Lefkowith is the owner of Redefining Strength, a wildly popular online fitness company and functional fitness small group training studio in Costa Mesa California. Through her personal experiences and working hands on with clients at her gym, Cori has developed training methods that have been featured in Women’s Health, SELF magazine, Shape, the OC Register, and MindBodyGreen. Cori always jokes that she’s made all of the mistakes - pushing through injury only to end up worse off, trying fad diets to only fall victim to the yo-yo dieting cycle - so that she can help her clients avoid the same pitfalls. On today's very special episode, host Brian Klepacki sat down with Cori out West in beautiful San Diego and they talked about everything from exercise to family to business. Cori finds joy when she's empowering others to get the health and fitness results they’ve always dreamed of through coaching. Listen in to this educational and inspiring conversation and start learning on how you can redefine YOUR strength today.
