An echo chamber free podcast with honest, raw conversations on faith & culture. Usually with a beer or 3. Grace, Peace, Cheers!
The Bros Bibles & Beer podcast is a refreshing and thought-provoking show that tackles various topics from a Christian perspective while maintaining an entertaining and humorous atmosphere. The hosts, Jeff, Zack, Scott, and Andy, offer unique viewpoints on theology and engage in deep conversations with each other and their guests. As a listener, I appreciate how they challenge my faith and encourage me to question my beliefs on second-order issues.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the diversity of opinions among the hosts. Each one brings their own perspective on current events and religious topics, creating a dynamic and engaging dialogue. It feels like listening to normal people discussing their struggles and sharing their lives while enjoying some tasty beverages. There is no pressure for them to have unified theological views, but rather an acceptance of different outlooks that fosters openness.
Additionally, I appreciate the honesty and encouragement that permeates this podcast. The hosts are not afraid to address difficult questions or share their doubts and struggles with their faith. This authenticity creates an environment where listeners can also examine their own beliefs and find encouragement in knowing they are not alone in their journey.
However, one small drawback of the podcast is that at times it may leave listeners with more questions than answers. While the hosts delve into deep discussions, relying heavily on personal experiences and anecdotes, there could be more citations from scripture to provide a stronger biblical foundation for their conversations. It would be helpful to have more references to scripture as a point of reference for further exploration.
In conclusion, The Bros Bibles & Beer podcast is a must-listen for anyone interested in examining their faith or engaging in thought-provoking discussions about Christianity. The hosts' authenticity and willingness to explore tough topics make this show both enlightening and enjoyable. Whether you are a longtime believer or a skeptic looking to understand Christianity better, this podcast offers valuable insights with respect and love for one another.
Professional Christian Carey Robinson of @TheMovementOC church returns to the show to talk about the complexities of leadership, how he stays accountable in his leadership position as a pastor, and why he calls himself a Christian nationalist. His definition of CN may not be what you think. Which is why Zack argues he should drop the label. It's a zesty conversation with some healthy argumentation all around. Also, why are we, of the royal variety, rewarding people for using racial slurs on kids? It's a wild time to be alive, and we're here to talk about it. "For the longest time, Paul's Epistle to the Romans has been used to justify misogyny, homophobia, eternal conscious torment, and blind allegiance to the State. However, the truth is that the Apostle Paul never intended his letter to the Church in Rome to teach any of those things. That's why co-authors Keith Giles and Matthew J. In this engaging conversation, hosts Zack and Andy welcome Keith Giles and Matthew J. What do you do when your beliefs collide with your ballot? Would Jesus Vote? And if so, who would he vote for? Recently Josh Howerton of LakepointeChurch gave a sermon titled "How To Vote Like Jesus". We use a couple of clips from that as a springboard into this incredible conversation. We are not on the same page in this one. Our exploration veers into the moral complexities of voting and Christian responsibility in political engagement. We wrestle with the idea of rebellion against God by not voting, dissect the notion of third-party futility, and debate the ethics of supporting a system that may contradict Christian values. With humor and sincerity, we reflect on America's perception as a Christian nation and the divisive nature of current political discourse. Surprising new data is in on whether GenZ men or women are leaving the church. We dig into and get all robust with this conversation. Are young men feeling isolated, unsupported, and under constant attack in today's culture? When they turn to the church for guidance, they often find little support, leading many to seek controversial internet figures instead. Some feel masculinity has been attacked and stripped away in the social media age, yet it remains prominent in the real world. Amidst discussions on toxic masculinity, there's a perceived lack of initiatives nurturing positive masculine growth and responsibility among young men. This may be contributing to Gen Z Christian males becoming more religious than their female peers, who are increasingly religiously unaffiliated, and disillusioned potentially by abuse revelations like #MeToo and #ChurchToo. For the first time ever, young men are outpacing young women when it comes to church affiliation and religious expression. • Young men are now more religious than young women, contradicting a long-held narrative. • Young men feeling unsupported, isolated, and under constant attack, turning to controversial internet figures for guidance. • Masculinity has been attacked and stripped away in the social media age, leading to a lack of personal connection and reality. • Gen Z women increasingly religiously unaffiliated, disillusioned by #MeToo, #ChurchToo abuse revelations. • Young women leaving churches due to pastors' sexual misconduct and abuse. • Young men value traditional family life more than young women, contrasting with societal narratives promoting career success. • Complementarian churches reduce women's visibility, driving them away yet liberal denominations ordaining women decline steeply. • Conservative and liberal churches face challenges regarding growth and retention, with liberal churches struggling due to a lack of clear boundaries. In episode 246 We have presidential debate hot-takes & discuss whether, according to @ChristianityTodayMagazine, public schools are a training ground for our kid's faith. Or in Kirk Cameron's words, "We're gonna have little kids that come back as little Marxists, little statists, little drag queens, strippers, drug dealers and, you name it” We react to the presidential debates and question how to align Christian values with candidates' stances, especially on hot-button issues like war and abortion. Politics is a mess, with confusing contradictions that leave some disillusioned and abstaining from voting, while others reluctantly vote for the lesser evil or remain genuinely enthusiastic about their candidate. "We only have so much information to go on about who that individual is, and who we want them to be. And so in the absence of information, we as humans will fill in those gaps with the things that we want." - Andy We also discuss an article on CTmagazine on sending your kids to public school that has elicited wild reactions from Christians on X.com. "Public school is like strength training for our children's faith. 'Let them wrestle with worldly counternarratives to God's truth while they're still under your care.' " There is lots of Us vs. Them, either-or, in or out, and Black and White thinking to be sifted through in some of the reactions but we handle it like champs. Plus we add our own insights based on our experiences in private, public, and home-school setups. Let us know what you think! Key Take Aways: • Align personal values with political candidates' stances can be challenging, especially on issues like war and abortion. • Politics is complex, with inconsistencies that lead to disillusionment and voter abstention for some, while others vote strategically. • Long-distance relationships and lack of information about candidates lead to making positive assumptions. • Public schools are seen as spiritual battlefields by some conservative Christians, promoting paganism and indoctrination over critical thinking. • Finding the right balance in exposing children to different beliefs and perspectives is crucial for their development. • Over-sheltering or neglecting children can hinder their growth; parents must carefully introduce difficult knowledge. • Polarization and fear are fueled by technology, algorithms, and scare tactics across various domains like politics and religion. • Fear stems from a lack of control, and open communication with children is essential, avoiding dictation or extremist rhetoric. Paul Clayton Gibbs is the Founder and Global Director of Pais Movement, he has planted and repurposed churches in both the UK and the USA. He travels globally providing consultancy and training to leaders. Paul is the author of several books including; ‘Talmidim – How To Disciple Anyone In Anything'. Pais Movement exists "To spark a movement where the primary mission of every Christian is to advance the Kingdom of God in the way Jesus modeled it." "Have you noticed there are two types of Christianity? While the Christian-centric gospel prioritizes personal transformation, the Kingdom-centric gospel compels us to transform our world. Both are Christianity, but one represents the kind of religion Jesus witnessed and the other, the kind He wanted. In his latest book, Kingdom Centric: Reframing Christianity, Paul Clayton Gibbs guides you through a series of awkward questions to help align your thoughts and practices to God's true purpose for your life. When God's people return to who He created us to be and lead others to do the same, we give God what He wants: His Kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven. Take the free appraisal to discover how Kingdom-centric you are, and then use the ten ‘pivots' in this book to revolutionize your relationship with God. Brennan Manning said “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” With multiple mega-church leaders in the headlines, including the arrest of "Bling Bishop" Lamor Whitehead for financial crimes, and Gateway Church founder Robert Morris's child sex abuse allegations, among a seemingly endless stream of others, it's not surprising that some would become disillusioned about their involvement in church and maybe even ditch their faith altogether. How have rigid doctrines and opposition to scientific advancements contributed to growing skepticism among the educated and younger generations? Is there a way for the church to reconcile with its past and present challenges to rebuild trust and relevance in a rapidly changing world? We talk about this and more in episode 239. In episode 238, we delve into the recent commencement speech delivered by Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs' star kicker, at Benedictine College. As a celebrated athlete and a devout Catholic, Butker's speech has garnered significant attention and sparked a lively debate. Join us as we explore the various dimensions of his address, highlighting both the applause and the criticisms it has received. Also, for some Christians, cussing is a line you shouldn't cross. We aren't those Christians. We've recently received negative feedback on some salty language used on our podcast. We react to a thoughtful Instagram post by @nakedpastor about why he sometimes cusses, why some of us like to mix some zesty language into our conversations, and how it might actually be a good thing. We've been accused of being lukewarm Christians by multiple people who are way better Christians than us. We (or at least one of us) probably are by some metrics. But isn't everyone someone else's lukewarm Christian? Do you ever feel like you might be a lukewarm Christian? Do you care? In this video, we'll explore what it means to be lukewarm, and why it might matter less than you think. Also listener feedback. Pastor Mark Driscoll was recently kicked off stage by Pastor John Lindell when he started his speaking time off at the Stronger Men's Conference, hosted at Lindell's James River Church. Driscoll was upset that there was an acrobat/sword swallower, who turned out to be a former stripper as part of the festivities opening the conference. That's a sentence I never thought I'd put in a podcast description. “The Jezebel spirit opened our event,” Driscoll said, after explaining he was hoarse because he had been up since 1 a.m. praying. “. . . Before the word of God was opened, there was a platform. It was a high place. On it was a pole, an Asherah. The same thing that's used in a strip club for women, who have the Jezebel spirit to seduce men." The two seemed to reconcile publically late in the conference, but since then accusations are flying about Mark allegedly undermining the leadership and sowing discord at James River Church. Do men's conferences need all the spectacle? Motorcross, tanks, flamethrowers, sword swallowers, etc? Was Driscoll correct in publicly rebuking the conference? How should disagreements between church leaders or Christians in general be handled? Plus Andy is the victim of Jeff's Rapid Fire, Josh Howerton may have plagiarized his apology for a bad joke, & listener feedback. This is far more than a TMZ-style gossipy reaction episode. Courtney Lancaster from the Heal/Create Podcast joins us and shares her powerful story, including her time as a worship leader at Bethel Church. It seems most either have negative or positive opinions about what Bethel Church is up to. Courtney is more nuanced about her time there. Learn about some of the spiritual baggage she brought into, and out of Bethel, how she learned to heal from trauma, how this has unlocked her ability to create, and how she wants to help others (maybe you?) heal so they can unlock their creative potential. Plus listener feedback, what we're consuming, & Courtney survives (endures?) a round of Jeff's Rapid Fire."Healing is so possible, and my hope is that everything that I offer reminds you of who you truly are, helps you heal what's in the way, and returns you to your creative power, once and for all."About Courtney from www.courtneylancaster.co: "I was so deeply identified as a victim that I couldn't see a path forward. The only thing I knew how to do for a while was just wake up every morning. I had two small children, crippling anxiety and depression, and a broken heart full of dreams that I had no idea how to move towards. It wasn't always like this. I had been a worship leader and a performer, singing for thousands of people on big stages, and I had dreams of so much more. I have always wanted to sing, to pursue music and express myself through art for as long as I could remember. There were signs of stress, anxiety, and overwhelm as I navigated my adulthood and pursued them, but I didn't know how to face them, so I ignored them. It wasn't until a series of panic attacks upended my entire life that I realized that avoiding my pain wasn't going to work.9 years ago, I began the journey of healing. I was in therapy, coaching, and reading books every day trying to figure out how to clear the fog and calm the fear, but for awhile, I was just treading water. I was circling around and around my pain, but not resolving anything. I had heard that you needed to “feel it to heal it”, so I thought my ticket out was in feeling as much of my pain as possible. This only left me in deep disregulation, completely frozen and struggling with terrifying dissociation.I know darkness really, really well.I did find safety, slowly. I found the right support (something I will teach you how to do, if you need it), and I began to come out of the black hole I had found myself in, but I was still struggling with identity, and missing the vibrancy I had experienced years earlier and still hoped for."
