This week, Pastor John Durham kicked off our new sermon series All Sufficient with a message on God's grace. Through Ephesians 2 and Exodus 34, John reminded us that grace is at the very heart of God's character, lavishing His love and mercy on those who could never earn it. He challenged us to respond to this grace with humility, worship, gratitude, and a life transformed by the saving work of Christ.

2 Corinthians 12:1-10: Even the Apostle Paul suffered with his “thorn in the flesh.” Despite his prayers, God let the pain remain. Sometimes as believers we conclude that God owes us an easy life or an easy victory. We, like Paul, must learn that God is God, and He uses all of our experiences to shape us in the likeness of His Son.
How Do We Thrive in God's Sufficient Grace?Grace 4 Strongest in WeaknessBrian UyedaOriginal Air Date: 2026.05.10We believe The Bible, God's word, is inspired by Him, through the Holy Spirit and is sufficient for everything you need in life – guidance, wisdom, strength, encouragement and HOPE. His word reveals His nature and character and His plan of redemption through His Son Jesus Christ, through whom we can have eternal salvation when we choose to follow Him. We also believe the Bible remains relevant in our world today and its power is experienced when personally and consistently applied and practiced.Part of your journey may include choosing a Bible translation and there are many. To help you choose, it is important to know that a “translation” is word-for-word while a “paraphrase” is thought- for- thought. If you are new to Bible reading or don't yet have one, we offer FREE Bibles that are English Standard Version translation – a very easy to read Bible. Splinters, thorns, prickers. It doesn't matter what they are called, they hurt and get under your skin! Life in our world is filled with thorns: difficult relationships, illness, loss of loved ones, broken promises. The Bible tells us that even the Apostle Paul and God Himself in Jesus struggled under the bite of thorns. But God does not allow thorns in our lives without providing sufficient grace to live in the prickly mess. What Satan intends to push us down often results in pushing us to our knees in front of God's throne instead.“You who wore my thorns that I may know Your grace…pierced by my sin that I may see Your face…loved and forgiven from shame and deep disgrace. You wore my thorns. You wore my thorns.” (from Jill's poem “You Wore My Thorns” copyright 2003) To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1141/29?v=20251111

Our culture often celebrates strength, independence, and self-sufficiency. We’re told to push harder, do more, and rely on ourselves to make things happen. But Scripture offers a very different message—one that feels counterintuitive: true strength is found in weakness. In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, God says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” These words remind us that our limitations are not obstacles to God’s work—they are the very places where His power shines the brightest. Admitting weakness isn’t easy. It can feel uncomfortable, even discouraging. But acknowledging our need is actually the starting point of deeper dependence on God. When we stop striving to carry everything on our own, we create space for His grace to sustain us. God never intended for us to live by our own strength. Every ability we have is a gift from Him, and every challenge we face is an opportunity to rely more fully on His provision. When we try to handle everything ourselves, we often end up overwhelmed. But when we surrender, we experience a different kind of strength—one that doesn’t come from within us, but from Him. Grace is not just a concept; it is God’s active presence in our lives. It meets us in our exhaustion, strengthens us in our weakness, and carries us through what we cannot handle alone. It reminds us that we don’t have to be enough—because God already is. As we learn to depend on Him, our perspective begins to shift. Instead of seeing weakness as failure, we begin to see it as an invitation. An invitation to trust, to surrender, and to witness God’s faithfulness in deeper ways. Your story is not about how strong you are—it’s about how faithful God is. And as you lean into His grace, you’ll discover that it truly is enough for every moment you face. Main Takeaways God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Self-reliance can lead to overwhelm, but dependence on God brings peace. Grace is God’s active help in our daily lives. Admitting weakness creates space for God’s power to work. Our lives point to God’s faithfulness, not our own strength. Today’s Bible Verse “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10, NIV). Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The LORD did not appear to you.'” The LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.” And he said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it. But the LORD said to Moses, “Put out your hand and catch it by the tail”—so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand— “that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” Again, the LORD said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow. Then God said, “Put your hand back inside your cloak.” So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh. “If they will not believe you,” God said, “or listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign. If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.”But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” Then the LORD said to him, “Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses and he said, “Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. You shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth, and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do. He shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be as God to him. And take in your hand this staff, with which you shall do the signs.”
Everyone has weaknesses—but not everyone knows what to do with them.In this episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef exposes a subtle trap the enemy uses to keep believers restless: refusing to confront our weaknesses. Whether your struggle is physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual, unresolved weakness can breed discontentment and quietly drain your joy—unless you apply God's grace to the very places that hurt.Dr. Youssef takes you to Paul's “thorn in the flesh” and the breakthrough lesson God taught him:“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).You'll discover why the most important part of any trial isn't the struggle itself—but how you respond to it. If you've ever felt like God's grace “isn't enough,” this episode helps you diagnose what's really happening: either you're fixated on the problem instead of His grace, or you're avoiding the issue entirely. The way forward is not denial or despair—it's honest dependence on Christ. You'll also be reminded that Jesus is not distant from your struggle. He understands your weakness with compassion—and He invites you to come to Him for strength and mercy (Hebrews 4:15).Scripture Focus: 2 Corinthians 12:9 The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. If today's devotional stirred a question, burden, or need for prayer, you don't have to walk through it alone.

Has “grace” lost its wonder? In this episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef challenges the modern misconceptions that have watered grace down into mere politeness—or made it unnecessary in an age of self-sufficiency and “rights.” The Truth is far more stunning: we are sinners who could never earn our way back to God. Only Jesus' sacrifice on the cross and His righteousness credited to us can justify us before the Father (see John 3:16).Dr. Youssef then brings this Gospel reality into your everyday battles. When trials hit, anxiety rises, or temptation threatens your fellowship with God, grace becomes more than a doctrine—it becomes your lifeline. Through prayer, God steadies you with peace and security, goes before you into life's battles, and provides victory that doesn't come from your strength, but from His.If you're facing pressure, fear, or exhaustion, this devotional will lift your eyes to the promise you can cling to today: God's grace is sufficient—and His power is revealed in your weakness.Scripture Focus: Psalm 20:7 The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. In this message, Elder Jonathan Thomas reminded that trials are a part of our life and walk with the Lord. They are real and come in many shapes and forms, but they are also temporary. When going through trials, we must remember that they are necessary in shaping our faith, deepening our relationship with God. Going through trials reminds us that we have a living hope and that we have community, which means that we don't have to go through trials ourselves. We should also remember that God has given each of us grace to support members of our community going through trials. Reach out to your community and share your grace that is compatible with their trials during this period.

Born Mary Flannery O’Connor, she’s best known as Flannery O’Connor, one of the American South’s most celebrated writers. Her stories brim with suffering and grace. When her beloved father died of lupus when she was fifteen, a devastated O’Connor threw herself into writing her first novel. Soon she herself was diagnosed with lupus, an incurable disease that took her life at thirty-nine. O’Connor’s writing reflects her physical and mental anguish. Novelist Alice McDermott said, “It was the illness I think that made her the writer that she is.” We don’t know what the apostle Paul’s “thorn” was (2 Corinthians 12:7), though many have offered conjecture. We do know that Paul said, “Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me” (v. 8). We also know God didn’t do so (v. 9). This humbled Paul. He notes how it kept him “from becoming conceited” (v. 7). Paul’s thorn formed him and made him the apostle that he was. But the thorn wasn’t all, for with the thorn came God’s sufficient grace and perfecting power, so the tormented apostle could declare, “When I am weak, then I am strong” (v. 10). The thorns in our lives, whatever they may be, form us. They make us who we are. But the thorns aren’t all there is. As Paul and Flannery O’Connor and countless others have witnessed over the long arc of human history: God’s grace is sufficient for us.
