I have some great clients, but it wasn't always this way. I am thankful for all the meany butts that I have worked with, because they taught me what I don't like. I am a BIG believer in attracting your tribe and when you do attract those you do NOT want to work with, it is a lovely test from the universe saying, "are you sure?" It has taken me a LOT of learning to get here and sometimes I still need to learn this lesson, but most of the time, I just don't work with meany butts. :-) Thanks for listening to “Real Talk” with Kelly Wilson, voice actor for commercials, eLearning, narration, explainers, training videos, children's content, political commercials, and more. Topic - Don't force a smile at work Do you work at a job where you're in the public eye? Do you force yourself to smile when you want to wring someone's neck? Then, beware. You might be vulnerable to heavy drinking after you get home from work. You're really susceptible to this if you're a highly impulsive person, in which case, it takes a lot more control to be smiley. The more you have to fake it, the more you're gonna drink. That goes for you, nurses, teachers and wait staff in restaurants. Have you noticed that you're drinking more after work? Does it feel as though it's related to more than the stress of the job or feeling negatively? It's caused by being dishonest about your emotions. Being coerced into smiling when you really, really want to throttle that customer causes a unique kind of stress. Maybe it's time to get out of from behind that counter before you need bail money. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message

Topic - Don't eat cheap ramen. Yuck. Doctors used a pill-sized camera to see what happens to ramen when it hits your gut. After 2 hours, the noodles aren't digested. This is a strain on your system because the longer the digestive time, the more the stomach is exposed to the noodles' toxic preservative TBHQ. TBHQ is a petroleum by-product. It's found in varnish, pesticides, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. The biggest risk of cheap, instant ramen? Metabolic syndrome which is a cluster of conditions of high blood pressure and sugar, excess body fat around the waist and excess cholesterol leading to heart disease, stroke and diabetes. The 1900 mg of sodium in ramen is enough to create problems alone. The MSG is associated with nerve damage and is implicated in Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and Lou Gehrig's disease. Wanna eat fast and cheap? Make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at home. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message

What is latest and greatest happening with you on this Sunday, January 12th, 2020. It's a beautiful day, guys, regardless of what the weather is like outside, it is a beautiful day. You know why? Because that's how I'm choosing to see the day. If I don't, then I'm already at a disadvantage. But if I start off thinking, Hey, it's a beautiful day, things start looking up, right? So keep that in mind. Even the bad days have silver linings, so we just got to look for them. We just got to look for him. But what I want to leave with you guys today, it's a new week. It's a new day. What about, you know, I, I just started reading some books and it's interesting because I look at the book and I was like, I immediately had a first impression and then as I'm reading the book I'm like, well this is nothing what I thought it was. And we often fall into the trap of judging books by their cover. Both literally and figuratively. Literally it's a science. People make those book covers and manipulate it in such a way that you gravitate towards certain things over others and because of human behavior and the like, you know, book covers are designed to be attractive to your eye to catch it. And the thing is, it may be manipulated in such a way that you think one thing, but the book is about something tiredly different. And so that's why you gotta be mindful and careful about judging books by the cover. Books and covers are one thing, the actual story is a whole 'nother one. Now that's looking at things literally. But if we look at it figuratively, we often are quick to judge people once we see them. Studies, say it only takes four seconds to make an impression. I actually, I think it's four minutes to make your first impression and sometimes that's not even a fair impression that you get from someone, right? You look at someone and you see they're wearing Goth clothes with all black earrings and you're like, Ugh, goth. I apologize, this is not to offend anybody goth or the fact that you're wearing black or anything. This is what I'm saying. You see that, but you don't realize that that person may very well have layers. We all have layers within ourselves. They may be a gentle soul, they may be a savant in violin. We don't know. You don't know one person's, what you see at about them on their outside doesn't define who they are, right? You see me, you see an Indian. That's your first impression. But I am layers. I have layers. And so you gotta be careful about that, about making that snap judgment, wait to learn about that person. Say hi, get to know them. Then make an informed decision. Making an informed decision is much better than trying to assume you know them better than they know themselves. And you might be missing out on some of the best stuff because you made a snap judgment about someone. Right? And we gotta, we gotta stop making those snap judgments because people are seeing that. Kids are seeing that. They learn from that. You know, kids are very open. They are a product of their environment. So it's very important that we stop being quick to judge and start taking a moment to get to know someone. And this is true about a lot of things, right? Not just people, not just books, but opportunities, about products. Do you really need something because it says you need it on the packaging. Maybe not. Take a second pause, make an informed decision. Don't just the book quote unquote by its cover. You know, sometimes we end up with tons of stuff we buy. We really don't need it. And it's because, you know, we're so quick to be like, Oh, I absolutely look at that. This is all a product of people making things appealing. So you gotta be careful. Don't fall into the trap of literally and figuratively of judging a book by its cover. All right, so keep that in mind on this Sunday. And you know, have fun. Go out, enjoy the day. You are too fabulous to just be sitting inside, unless you're trying to relax, and just do nothing. Do something before the work week begins, before the school day starts, for whatever you have obligations begins. You know, go have fun, relax. You've earned it, you've earned it because you're a hard worker, you're hard worker. You do what you have to do to get things done and you, you've earned a break. And so today as a Sunday or rest day should be that for you. Now, this doesn't negate what I was saying yesterday, right? And about being persistent. You still should be persistent. You shall still do work. But it's very important that we make sure you take these breaks at the same time. So go ahead and do that. You guys earned that. You've earned that. Take it easy because you are awesome. You are loved, you are needed. And as I always tell you, and you gotta start believing it, you are enough as you are. That's, that's it. You are enough. All right, so when, so until we check back in tomorrow. Guys, if these episodes are helpful to you, please share it with your friends. It's a new podcast. We're only like 12 days in. So share it with your friends. Let them know, Hey, I'm their friend too. I'm happy to be their hype, man. They're just as awesome as you. Right. Share the love. I appreciate it. All right, till next time, which is tomorrow, we'll check back in. Remember, don't stop. Keep chasing.

In episode #633, Eric and Neil discuss why you shouldn't fall in love with an idea. Tune in to hear what you should love in order to be successful. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today's Topic: Don't Fall in Love With an Idea [00:35] Most startups start with a totally different idea than what they are doing presently. [00:54] Don't fall in love with an idea, fall in love with an industry. [01:55] As long as you stick with your industry, you can build upon that experience, as opposed to shifting to something else entirely. [02:18] It's like compound interest: the moment you stop investing, you lose all that interest. [02:53] Stay in your lane. [03:01] In a Nathan Latka podcast interview, the discussion was about sticking with one industry instead of branching out into the unknown. [04:02] You need to love what you do, but make sure you love the industry. [04:20] Elon Musk had ZipTo, then Paypal, then SpaceX. Because he jumped industries, he struggled much longer before his success. [05:23] It's like WOW: you need to keep levelling up. [06:00] That's all for today! In episode #631, Eric and Neil discuss why it's important to not overthink shit. Tune in to hear why overthinking could be ruining your business. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today's Topic: Don't Overthink Shit [00:34] Everyone loves to come up with complex funnels. [00:48] When you make it complex, stuff is more likely to break down. [01:12] Start simple, then expand. [01:22] When Eric started, his channel was SEO. They wrote content and did a lot of guest posting. [01:43] They tried a complex marketing funnel, but it didn't work. [01:55] They also were podcasting at the same time and then layered in content marketing once they got the hang of everything. [02:27] Just focus on the things that you are good at. [02:40] Don't take on too much and you can layer things in later. [03:14] Why build a crazy marketing/sales funnel, when you haven't tried a simple one in order to see if it would even work? [03:50] The boring growth is often the most sustainable growth. TOPIC: Don't provoke Dan. This week, Dan and Merlin (once again) complain about what works and what just kiiiinda works with smart devices. Who's winning the voice control game, and who's struggling to play catchup? Ecosystems! Next up, the boys talk about some surprisingly handy and useful cases for that befuddling Apple TV remote. Also, Dan needs your help to back up Cash's Windows box. Merlin has an important request, too. Also provided are scientific updates on how much a scale weighs. Finally, Merlin offers a whole goddamned book's worth of awesome productivity advice via a cheap notebook and five (5) daily bullet points.
TOPIC: Don't just be the meatbag in the room. This week, Dan and Merlin talk about "the fill-in guy," TV shows they're loving, listener feedback, improving presentations, The Smiths, the evolution of podcasts, contact management woes, and remembering what you're capable of.
Topic - Don't Give Up Mom and Dad! Parents often feel they aren't making a dent in their kid's behavior. Don't give up, Mom and Dad. Even though you think Jared isn't paying attention when you tell him how to shake an adult's hand while looking her straight in the eye, repeated reminders will “take”. When Jared is introduced to your boss, he will give a firm handshake, a strong, “How do you do?” while looking her straight in the eye. You will fall down. It's true it takes 100 times and on the 101st time you guide him, he'll get it. But remember, parents are farmers. We plant seeds again and again and eventually, see the harvest. Many times, kids really “hear” the message when someone else tells them. Uncle Tony may say the exact same words you've been preaching and Jared will say, “Uncle Tony said that I should look a guy in the eye when I am shaking his hand. You know, it's a guy thing, Mom”. Again, don't fall over. Just be glad the message got through. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message
Topic - Don't Let Life Wear You Out. Mom always said, “It's a great life if you don't weaken”. I watched her put her “world views” into action when my 19-year old brother was in Vietnam. Many times, casualty officers would arrive at our door with the latest gruesome news of him being shot down, missing in action, prisoner of war and yes, returning the wrong body to us on one occasion. She taught us not to get emotionally involved until there was something to actually cry about. “Don't let life wear you out. You won't have energy for the good times”, she warned. “Don't take life personally” especially when the behavior of others slops onto you. “Wait for the whole puzzle”. She cautioned about jumping to conclusions and catastrophic thinking when there was so little information. “Sit back and wait for the lesson to be revealed.” She modeled for us the valuable tools I use today. Being “emotionally practical” teaches your children to regulate their emotions so they can use their intelligence to develop coping skills. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/drclaudia/message
