Baird takes us back in time to the origin story of Wavve, how it was a spinoff company from their first business when they needed to create audio snippets for sharing on social media. The spinoff companies continued when they needed to create captions for audio within Wavve, which led to the creation of ZubTitle, a company Baird co-founded with a different partner. Both Wavve and ZubTitle grew to earn over $100,000 a month each - 7-figure companies. ChurnKey, Baird's latest company that helps subscription businesses deal with churn, was created as a result of needing to solve the churn problems within Wavve and Zubtitle. Baird, as you can probably tell, is amazing at using a need in one company as the genesis to create a new company. Of course, it's very challenging to grow one company, so working on two or even three at the same time rarely works. This is one of the reasons Baird and his partners made the choice to sell Wavve, so they could move on to focus on ChurnKey. Baird started the company in January 2017 after running what he *thinks* was a failed startup for about 2 years, called uTalk Sports, a sort of app-based radio offering that featured individual channels on specific sports talks, like Kansas City Chiefs football for instance, that were run by regular people like you and me. It was podcasting that didn't feel like podcasting, because listeners to those channels could leave their own replies to whatever the hosts of the channels talked about. It was pretty cool. Though it didn't work out, uTalk wasn't a failure at all. It was the first step and Wavve wouldn't have happened without it. uTalk pivoted to become Wavve when Baird finally realized that creating short audio snippets from these individual channels to promote the app and its contributors was the REAL product he should be focused on. Baird Hall is a tech entrepreneur and digital marketer, and the Founder of Wavve. He leads all sales, marketing, and support efforts for the Wavve team. Prior to founding Wavve, he did co-found a social media startup and was an early team member at 500 startup company. Key Lessons Learned: Podcasting And Video Podcasting is an incredible way to build relationships with prospects and customers. It’s the only way to have an authentic conversation without actually talking to someone. Tech is making growing an audience with podcast easier than ever. Wavve was originally an internal marketing tool developed for Baird’s previous startup. They realized that there is no great way to put long form audio content onto social media. Think about the kind of people in your niche and try to anticipate where they spend their time and what kinds of content they are interested so you can grab their attention. Focus on the platform that gets you the best results. Use the analytics the social platforms provide to understand where you should be spending your time. Give your prospect a reason to listen to what you are creating. Answer the question of why someone should listen and how they can listen. If you have a website, you should push people to your site but it depends on your goals for your content. Avoid using your Libsyn link. Posting on Instagram at the same times each day consistently will get you the best engagement rates. If you don’t include hashtages Promote your old episodes. Podcasts are evergreen content. Try different approaches and keywords and see how you can increase the reach of your past episodes. People go to social media to be entertained and get away from work. Use your authentic voice, be yourself, and create an emotional connection with your audience. Wavve Wavve is an app that takes long form audio and turns it into short video clips that includes images, waveforms, and text. You can put it anywhere that supports video. Generally the clip you choose should be between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. You want to pick a clip that really stands out and if possible, leaves the listener hanging and wanting to listen to whole thing. Some users get creative and use Wavve to put out a quick summary of the episode instead of a quote from the episode itself. If you are tech savvy enough to create a podcast, you will have no problem using Wavve. Stories on Instagram, Snapchat, and Instagram are where many users are starting to spend their time. Wavve allows you to change the format of the video depending on the platform you are focusing on. Wavve templates allow you to match your branding. You can customize the position of the images and text. Authors and musicians are using the app to put out snippets of their content on social media. There are so many benefits of putting out video content on social media, but not everyone is comfortable in front of a camera. Anytime you can get your voice in front of someone, you will have much more impact that just using text or a blog post. Viewers are seeing the same time of posts over and over again. If you can create something that stands out, you are much more likely to succeed. When you boost a video post like one created with Wavve, you get a lot more bang for your buck. Make sure your design is clear and accomplishes your goals for what you want the listener to do. Depending on where your audio file link comes from, what format the file is in, which social media platform you’re dealing with, you can get all kinds of bizzare results. The problem Is compounded even more when you realize that social media simply doesn't lend itself to long-form content. Most podcasts are longer types of content so they are hard to share on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other places in a way that can be played, right there, on the spot. My hope is that this episode will change all of that for you. I'm talking with Baird Hall, one of the creators of Wavve, a great new app that enables you to create motion videos with sound clips from your podcast episodes. If it IS uploaded directly to the social platform, it’s likely still going to open a pop-up window to make the thing actually playable. Or, you can create a video of it yourself which is one of the biggest time sucks I can think of at this moment. There is an answer, and it even has a free option. Did you hear that people, free! I invite you to listen to what Baird Hall and the team at Wavve have created for people who produce longer-form audio content (like podcasters). it's a way that you can create bite-size pieces that people scrolling through their social media feed would actually want to listen to simply because it's so beautiful and eye-catching. This is the episode that tells all about the Wavve platform and what it can do to help you share audio of your episodes more effectively. It's less than 35 minutes long, so take a listen, would you? Even though Wavve creates beautiful videos for you to share, you’ll have to put in a little work of your own. I know it's tempting to think that some new app like Wavve is going to come along and make your podcasting workflow simple, easy, and automatic. Yes, in the previous episode with Ari Meisel we did discover a lot of ways that you can automate your podcast workflow, but that doesn't mean you're going to have 0 work left to do. With an application like Wavve you've got the opportunity to make something incredible that will help you promote your podcast. But it won't happen by itself. You're going to have to sit down and do the hard work of figuring out how to use the tool most efficiently and effectively to reach your listening audience. Just throwing a Wavve motion video with your audio underneath onto social media isn't going to do the trick all by itself. You were going to have to learn the best times to post them, how to do it without a lot of effort, and best practices for how to use the online application to create your videos in the first place. I'm just being real here. I'm tired of all the “ 6 easy steps to…” posts that you see these days. Being successful at anything, including podcasting, means you have to do the work in order to make things work. This episode about sharing audio files on social media is a great step in the right direction. Baird and the folks at Wavve have given us a beautiful tool. But it's only that, a tool.
