Contract automation and building an alternative legal service provider (ALSP) within a law firm is the topic of Episode 52. Eric Baker and Michael Case, transportation attorneys with Frost Brown Todd, talk about their journey founding Transaction Expeditors, an AI enabled contracts automation platform for the transportation industry. Before joining Frost Brown Todd and before launching Transaction Expeditors, both Eric and Mike were in house attorneys. Eric served as GC for transportation and logistics companies SIRVA and CRST. Mike was also in-house doing legal work and running claims for a transportation insurer Protective Insurance. There has been much talk over the last couple of years about the interplay between law firms and alternative legal service providers. Should law firms use them? If so, should the create their own? When Eric and Michael, along with their colleague Stacy Katz, founded Transaction Expeditors, they were not thinking about those questions. They just wanted to create a more efficient contract management solution for their transportation clients. But in the end they created an ALSP within their law firm. Having Eric and Mike on the show also brings the podcast full circle because Transaction Expeditors' technology partner is the AI engine Legal Sifter, a company we had on the show way back on Episode 15 in 2018.

Because of his degree in interior design, he can help buyers visualize the potential of the space when he's showing it. He can help people see how to make a home of their own. He can also advise buyers of resale value and help them determine changes to make that stay within the budget of the neighborhood. When Eric started his business, it was geared toward home staging because there was nothing in his area. As a realtor, seeing how homes were presented, he knew his market needed the service. Why interior designers should network with realtors Eric points out that realtors are a great resource to home buyers and sellers. New home buyers might need an electrician, plumber, contractor, etc. Most of the homes in Eric's area are resales—not new construction—so remodeling is always a consideration. Most people who own a home at some point will need to sell or buy. The homeowner will likely ask you for interior design recommendations. That's why a symbiotic relationship between designers and realtors is imperative. What benefit does the realtor get? When you're a great resource for your clients, it keeps you top of mind. When they go to buy or sell, you're the person that comes to mind. Eric's market is a lot of second homes and vacation homes. They tend to be empty or furnished with pieces that are outdated and old. They often need a designer's touch to help them move. How home stagers can sell their value to realtors Eric recommends that home stagers and interior designers need to build a good relationship with realtors—and know your numbers. You need to be familiar with the inventory on the market. You need to understand if the market is hot or barely moving. It's all about perceived value. 95% of people start their home searches online. So you need to communicate to your client the value of a well-staged home. You also need a professional online presence (website and social media). You need a packet of information that's exceptional that you can provide outlining the services you offer. You also need to be able to communicate the value of your work (and how it can lead to more money for the homeowner and realtor). Eric believes there's a place for both normal and digital staging. If someone needs a quick turnaround at a low price point, digital staging may be the way to go. But Eric points out if he's showing a home with staged photos online but walks into an empty house, it's a letdown. People don't have the vision to see what could be. But if you can learn to do both, do it. You don't want to be the Blockbuster of the interior design industry. Listen to the whole episode for some networking tips + tricks from Darla! Brad talks to Eric McGuire, the lead Tactical Wealth Strategist inside CashFlow Tactics about the economics of certainty. While you got to know Ryan, Brad, and Jimmy pretty well over the last hundred or so episodes, we wanted to let you know that the CashFlow Tactics family is much bigger. Eric McGuire was a part of the CashFlow Tactics team before CashFlow Tactics was a thing. When we first met Eric, he was teaching almost the exact thing we’re teaching today. He was introduced to the concept of Financial Freedom by his brother, Les, while he was still in college. Eric stepped into the real world, knowing 401(k)s are practically worthless. He and Les couldn’t sleep at night if they’re going to be worried about their financial future. That’s why they set out to identify the principles of economic certainty. “Alcoholics Anonymous didn’t just save my life, it taught me how to live a life worthy of having been spared and changed me from the inside out.” -Eric Sheets Today, Ben and I are chatting to Eric Sheets, who is sharing his story of recovery and how he has taken his experience to give back and help other addicts become sober again. Eric’s Background with Drugs and Alcohol Eric says he came to the 12 Step Program a “broken man” and admits that this is the first time he has been honest with himself. “I could see that fear has governed my life as long as I can remember.” He did have a stretch of sobriety between 2003 and 2010 when his wife fell ill with a rare lung disease and was terminally ill. “In that time I found God and my understanding of him” because, for the first time in his life, he understood his purpose. Although he realized that God put his wife into his life, he still didn’t believe that he was an addict and didn’t understand what this lifestyle entails. The Second Phase of Drinking for Eric After his wife passed away, Eric didn’t drink for several weeks until he was invited to a dinner party where a woman gave him a glass of wine after convincing Eric that he wasn’t an alcoholic. He remembers that moment like it was yesterday and picked up his addiction at the moment he left off. At the moment he realized he couldn’t move on anymore, he walked into a hospital and told the emergency staff he was going to commit suicide; and he was baker-acted and introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous. Living a Life of Purpose “Living a life of purpose makes me happy,” Eric comments. He found that when he has a purpose, he can live sober and help others live sober. “Living in communion with my creator is how I found my purpose and what greater purpose can there be?” Listen in and find out how Eric came to find his purpose, what happened when he stopped being of service, how fear and selfishness crept into his life, and how he rebuilt his relationship with his son. In today's episode, I am joined by Eric Keating. Eric is a go-to-market strategist and the vice president of marketing at Appcues. He has worked in the SaaS world his entire career, starting with a company called Sonicbids, and has spent more than 10 years in marketing. Eric is an expert in the concept of product-led growth, what we have called the free trial or the freemium experience on this show. Today, we're going to dive deep into product-led growth and monetization. What is Product-Led Growth? “Product-Led Growth is defined as a go-to-market strategy that relies on using your product as the main vehicle to acquire, activate, and retain customers.” (Source: ProductLed) Essentially, the name speaks for itself. In product-led growth, we provide a free self-service product for our visitors. In order to turn visitors into active customers, we have to hook them and provide clear value. Often this is done through free trials. “Product-led growth is this concept that's really gained a lot of steam and awareness over the last one to two years,” Eric said. “It's the idea that your product is the primary driver of your user experience. Making your product available to try for free in a self-service capacity as often as possible is one of the most effective ways to go-to-market today. . . . Leading with a self-service free product experience is something that has been true at almost every single company I've worked at.” Below, Eric has shared three ways to increase our product-led monetization growth. Communicate with Our Customers Communication is essential to monetize our self-service products. “In this world in which you need to deliver more self-service, effective product experiences, there's this need to guide and communicate with users inside of your application,” Eric explained. “That's the type of product experience that, when you do this effectively, can really drive adoption of your product and create new monetization opportunities.” In product-led growth marketing, we are offering a free service. But how do we continue to deliver value to our users, while also turning them into paying customers? The key is communication. We can't just launch a free trial and hope that will be enough to monetize. We need to guide our users through the experience by raising awareness of the features our product offers. From there we can explain the advanced features and benefits they can receive if they pay for premium access to our product. Communication is essential in increasing awareness of the benefits and value of our products. Surveys, announcements, and newsletters are a few examples of how we can spread awareness and communicate with our customers. The goal is to keep them engaged, keep them using our product, and ultimately, adopt it fully. One of Eric's biggest home runs was while working for Compete, Inc. Compete had thousands of free users every month, but they weren't converting as many customers as they would like. So, Eric started a project focused on analyzing how their customers were using the product, what features they were using, and what features and benefits they found most valuable. After doing the research, they created an incentive for the users to upgrade to the premium plan based on what they discovered through the data. He was able to double his company's monthly revenue over one month because he understood his users' wants and needs, and then communicated the value they were offering effectively through his promotion. Focus on the Initial Experience In order to convert our potential customers into active customers, we need to make sure they have a good initial experience with us and our product. “One of the most important parts of product-led growth is having a fantastic initial product experience,” Eric said. “I'm talking about the first minute your user starts using your product. The first day, two days, of their experience is so critical, not only to whether or not you're going to ultimately be able to convert them into a customer but also to their long-term retention.” One of the biggest mistakes Eric sees companies make is flooding a new user with every little detail and feature about their product. When they give a customer a product tour, they think they have to show the new user everything. However, it often has the opposite effect of what they intended. Instead of feeling amazed at the product's features, the new user gets overwhelmed. “[The new user is] starting to use your product because they have a specific goal or outcome in mind, and your job is to get them to that goal or outcome as quickly as possible, not show them every aspect of your product,” Eric explained. “It is a phased approach. Get them to that moment, and then start exposing them to more. It's this gradual process, and trying to do everything in the first minute can really mess with your activation rates and conversion rates.” In order to get a new user on board, we really need to focus on solving their problem. A product tour should be about explaining to the customer how we can help them, not about how amazing our product is and why they need it. Offer Level 10 Passions How do you stand out? Puppies. A few years ago, Eric attended an event with tens of thousands of attendees, and hundreds, if not thousands of vendors. As Eric and his team at Zaius planned what they were going to showcase at this event, they asked themselves, “What can we do to stand out?” “We were still in the early stages,” Eric said. “The objective [was to] make sure that everybody attending this conference heard about Zaius, and that we were a familiar name from now on out.” They asked themselves, “Well, what does everybody love?” And the answer came—puppies. They reached out to an animal shelter down the street from the event and asked if they could show off some of their dogs. If anyone wanted to take a dog home, they would cover the adoption fees. “We had the [dogs] there for about an hour and there were crowds. There were lines to come up and see these dogs. Mission accomplished. We had a ton of interest, not only in the dogs but eventually in our product as well,” Eric said. “Ultimately, the objective was to increase our brand visibility, awareness, and recognition, and we did that.” After three years with Zaius, Eric helped grow their customer count 100x and revenues 35x, raising more than $43 million in venture capital. So, what's the point of this story? Think outside of the box and discover your customers' level 10 passions. When we do that, it will help to differentiate us and better connect with our potential customers. One of the tectonic shifts that are happening today is for every hour and every dollar that our customers have to invest, they've got a thousand good things to choose from. There's so much distraction. We can't just be good enough. We have to identify their level 10 passions and connect with them through those (level 10 being a passion that is a driving factor in their life). Identifying the level 10 passions of our target audience and building our whole business around those passions will make us stand out. When Eric brought in puppies to the event, he leveraged a huge level 10 passion for many of the attendees. There were thousands of vendors at this conference, but he became the priority when he added puppies to their brand. In order to drive the growth of our products, we need to make sure we are identifying and connecting through our customers' level 10 passions. Key Takeaways Thank you so much Eric for sharing your stories and knowledge with us today. Here are some of my key takeaways from this episode: Communication is key to monetize our self-service products. We need to guide our users through their product experience by raising awareness of the features and benefits our product offers. To convert our potential customers into active customers, we need to provide a great initial experience. The first impression really matters. Our job is to show our customers that we can meet their needs as quickly as possible. We don't need to show them every aspect of our product. If we can help our customers achieve their level 10 passions, we will better differentiate ourselves and build stronger connections with customers. Eric Feigl jumps on the podcast with CJ Gotcher to discuss his evolution as a coach. His story is more one of adapting and evolving and improving his own coaching practice and business. Learn more here: https://ericfeigl.com Eric loves the IMPACT coaching makes on someone’s everyday life. Ultimately every job HELPS people somehow, even accounting. Coaching however can really alter the quality of someone’s life and how each moment feels, reducing pain, and increasing abilities. He was attracted to coaching because of this. One of the things CJ & Eric discuss is how in learning deeply about something you ultimately have to believe in that thing. For Eric, is what Arthur Jones intensity training. For CJ, it was CrossFit. Though neither believes deeply in these, they’ve learned the benefits and downsides despite beginning as devotees of these respective training methods. While Eric pursued a degree, he feels that most of what he learned does not help him be a better coach. You ultimately have to pursue those things that give you the tools to improve your coaching, and the Barbell Academy definitely provides many of those tools. When Eric found simple, hard, effective barbell training, he already had to have clients. This occurred during the lockdown, so when clients returned he had changed his training philosophy quite a bit. He introduced barbells. Some people were all in, some needed a more compromised solution, but ultimately using barbells was better than what they had been doing. Some clients needed to leave and go elsewhere, but Eric believed more in his new approach and it did not hurt his business. GET STARTED with one-on-one online coaching FOR FREE! We hope everyone had a Happy New Year! This week, we take a look at two crimes involving the internet. Rachel starts with the case of an email hacker named Jennifer Lee. Her boyfriend, Eric Abramovitz, was accepted into his dream program with a full scholarship. Only, he didn’t know that. Jennifer, who was living with him at the time, deleted the email and sent him a fake rejection later. When Eric found out years later he decided to sue. Next, Nathalie tells the story of Hannah Sabata, the “chick bank robber”. Hannah stole a car then robbed a bank using a gun, a pillowcase, and a note. She later posted a Youtube video with a full confession in the same clothes she was wearing at the time of the robbery. We discuss Hannah’s history with authority and what may have led to her crimes. However, since tweets have such a short lifespan, a lot of people miss this invaluable insight due to the nature of Twitter. Eric Jorgenson recognized this inherent problem and tweetedto see if anyone would be interested in a book curating the wisdom Naval Ravikant had shared over the years. When Eric woke up the next morning, the tweet had gone viral and he was now publicly committed to writing this novel: The Almanack of Naval Ravikant: A Guide to Wealth and Happiness. In this podcast, Eric and I explore the book, have some beers, and inevitably things get out of hand, in a good way.
This episode is all about the dreaded EX! Listeners emailed us questions this week asking for insight about being the new partner/stepparent and still having a very present ex in the picture. The following are topics we cover on this podcast:Would you (Eric) marry the current version of your ex-wife, given how you work together now? Why or why not. When Eric alludes to the ex always being in his life (always will be in contact with her), what does that really mean? Is there any hope for the step parents out there who are biding their time until some sort of finish line? Is there a finish line?Social Media and the ex; what boundaries should there be, if any? Do you as the step parent have a right to privacy; to put your foot down when it comes to your spouse allowing the ex to “follow” them? What do you do if you disagree on this issue in your marriage; where do you go from there? Are you crazy for being uncomfortable or even insecure when the ex is always there? When they show up at family gatherings, when you are sitting between your spouse and his ex as they talk, when the MIL is giving the ex rides to these events...is it okay to have some expectations of boundaries or do you just need to accept it as the new comer?

When Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated the Conjuring house, it struck Ed as such an infested location that he joked, “if they ever make a move about our work, it should be about this house.” Many years later, and after Ed’s passing, that comment became a reality. A reality that has sparked numerous movies, books, and investigations into a house that, in some ways, feels like a paranormal playground for investigators. Smart Agency Masterclass with Jason Swenk: Podcast for Digital Marketing Agencies
Do you have a plan to protect your agency and team in the event of illness, injury, or death?? What would you do if your partner died? What if you were hurt or sick and unable to work? How much of your agency is dependent upon you for the day-to-day operations? As agency owners, we often think about our exit plan, but it's also important to plan for the unexpected. In today's episode, we'll cover: 2 things to protect your agency from the unexpected. The key to protecting your agency's acquisition. Today I sat down for an interesting chat with Eric Meyers, former CEO of a $40 million digital marketing agency. Back then, Eric found himself trying to navigate a pending merger as well as a transfer of ownership after the sudden death of his agency's founder. He's here to talk about what he learned through the process and what you can do to protect your agency from the unexpected. 2 Things to Protect Your Agency from the Unexpected Take a minute to think about what your agency's future looks like. Where do you want to be in 5, 10, or 20 years? Is that future still possible in the event of a sudden illness or injury of an agency leader? What about the death of your business partner? These things aren't fun to think about, but the truth is when you own a business you have to consider and plan for the unexpected. When Eric took the role of CEO at an agency, he never expected the founder would be involved in a tragic accident after only three months on the job, but that's what happened. As a result, the owner's family took control of the agency. From there, a pending merger fell apart and the agency went up for sale within six months. So how can you protect your agency from unforeseen changes? Create a Buy/Sell Agreement. If you have a partner, a solid Buy/Sell Agreement is critical. It protects both partners' interests and keeps things simple during times of uncertainty. You signed up to work with your business partner, not his or her family. A Buy/Sell Agreement helps ensure you have the funds to buy out your partner's family so you retain control over your agency. Purchase disability insurance. Would your agency survive if you had to take a sudden leave of absence due to an injury? Would you be able to pay your own bills? This one may seem obvious but it's often overlooked. It's a low-cost way to protect your business and your family. The Key to Protecting Your Agency's Acquisition One of the major problems at Eric's agency is the acquisition fell through at the last minute. This could have been prevented by a rock-solid Letter of Intent. A Letter of Intent helps all parties understand what they are getting out of the purchase of the agency. Eric says you shouldn't assume you can do it on your own. You need someone guiding the process and helping you navigate the unknown. It's even a good idea to make sure you have legal representation to look over paperwork and contracts. Another way to protect yourself is to set up an escrow account with the Letter of Intent. The amount in escrow depends on the amount of the sale. Then, if everything before the Letter of Intent turns out to be true and one of the parties backs out, the other party receives financial compensation. Don't forget, an agency sale is not the time to slow down. You need to keep your foot on the gas. You need to excel servicing existing clients and continue to fill your pipeline. That way, in the event the sale falls through, your agency is in a good position to thrive. Nobody likes to think about the worst-case scenario, but as a business owner, you have no choice. When you take the time to make sure you have the necessary precautions in place, you're investing in your agency's future. Looking for a Payroll and HR Solution for your Agency? Then Walt recounts the tale of a large, naked whale seen at the gym. Alan talks about getting ready for a glamping trip on his Father's Day weekend. He was also part of a group planning a surprise party for a friend turning 50. The party was followed by going out on the lake the next day. When Eric takes the stage, Alan recounts their lifelong friendship, starting with computer gaming, D&D and cable television. Eric then delves into his career move into the Department of Corrections for the city of Detroit. While working the day job, Eric took 15 years to complete his first novel, Three Condoms for Sarah. Also during that time, he found out he had developed stage 2 colon cancer, which had to be treated twice! The second round resulted from a spot on his liver that began to grow. After completing treatment, an idea of a second book formed and it eventually became the novel, Chasing Disclosure. He is set to release his third book, a collection of short stories, on September 11 called Chasing Magic. He will present that at the 3rd annual UFO Con in Detroit on that same weekend. My guest this week is Eric Erdman, the founder of the Give a Child a Voice Foundation. When Eric learned he had advanced brain cancer in July of 2016 at the age of 16, he had no idea all the ways his life would change. He faced medical procedures including both brain surgery and eye surgery, and lost hearing as well as sight in one of his eyes. Yet the fear and grueling procedures are not what Eric remembers most about the months after he was diagnosed with Anaplastic Grade III Ependymoma. He remembers the voluntary kindness friends, families, neighbors, and even strangers who helped him find his voice, to share his story and speak out. The coming together of so many different people, all with the same goal of showing support, transformed his perspective on life and inspired him to pay it forward. Today, after four brain surgeries, three rounds of radiation, a round of chemo, and complications, Eric is more excited than ever to continue to help other struggling kids find their voice through his foundation, Give a Child a Voice. While some children battle critical pediatric illness, others face challenges such as bullying and abuse in their schools and homes. In addition to the immediate harm it causes, these difficult experiences can cause long-term emotional suffering. Eric dreams that other kids who experience difficult situations receive the same kindness he received at one of the most vulnerable times of his life. He started Give a Child a Voice to engage the community and get children the help they need so positive change is possible. His dream and movement have become a reality thanks to the work being done through his foundation. I was so beyond inspired by my conversation with Eric. This young man is making the most of his time to inspire and encourage kids who’ve experienced bullying and so much more. I know you are going to be encouraged by him too, so without further ado, please enjoy my conversation with Eric! 3:32 - The Eric 101 Eric started Give a Child a Voice after he was diagnosed with cancer. His foundation helps children who have dealt with or are dealing with bullying, abuse, and life-threatening illness. Give a Child a Voice strives to emphasize the importance of children being able to speak up about their experiences. For many years, Eric did not speak up about being physically and mentally abused and bullied. It took him three years before he felt safe enough to talk about it to just his mom. He told her when he was 16 years old, at the same time as his diagnosis. He was diagnosed with stage three anaplastic ependymoma brain tumor. It is a very rare brain cancer and only 200 kids and about 52 adolescents are diagnosed each year. Eric is now stage four and has been through four brain surgeries, three rounds of radiation (61 sessions) at the highest dose. In August of 2019, he was given six months to live. Eric says he knows his body and how it reacts to so many surgeries and treatments. He’s been accustomed to medical procedures his whole life and says cancer has given him the ability to help others. Eric says he wouldn’t change anything because his experience is helping kids through similar experiences. Often people receive bleak diagnoses and prognoses by feeling sorry for themselves and being negative. Eric chose the opposite. He intentionally decided to take the positive, happy route to help his family and to focus to live in the moments he has now. 14:55 – A Strong Advocate Eric has always been happy, but his diagnosis brought out his personality. He is much more extroverted now and he has become such a strong advocate for children who are victims of abuse, having been bullied himself. Eric realized through his own experience with bullying that confronting a bully isn’t always straightforward. Kids who are bullies may be getting abused at home because of their home environment. Eric encourages those who’ve been bullied to speak up about what they’re going through at that moment, not only to protect themselves but also to help the kid that is doing the bullying. Speaking up is the first step. Once you speak up, something can be done to help everyone in the situation. It helps so many kids, not just the kid who is speaking up. 23:40 - Empowering Others Eric knows he would not have started a foundation to help others if not for his cancer. He wanted to take all the negative things he had been through and turn it around to use it for something good for other kids and teens. We can use our own life experiences to amplify the voice of others. If you would like to learn more about Give a Child a Voice, you can find more on the website and on Facebook. You can find a video about Eric’s story that was filmed at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. When Give a Child a Voice is also looking at ways for people to get involved in volunteer opportunities. Reach out to Eric if you’d like to become involved with Give a Child A Voice. He would love to hear from you directly, and the contact form goes directly to his personal email address. 29:24: Getting to Know Our Guest You’ll love hearing Eric’s fun and light-hearted answers to what his hype song would be, what his most unusual talent is, what makes him feel the most alive, and who he’d choose to play him in a movie about his life. When Eric first came up with the idea for Christopher & Eric's True Crime TV Club, he proposed Wives With Knives as a potential show he and Christopher could break down and serve up for their listeners in steaming hot slices. The big day has arrived! Christopher and Eric are finally serving up an episode of the aforementioned crap - I mean, crime-fest, this one entitled "Mama's Little Princess." (WIVES WITH KNIVES, Season 3, Ep. 7) Expecting intrigue among the manner born, your hosts were instead met with something so low class it makes Joe Exotic look like Brooke Astor. But there's a stunning surprise in store – halfway decent re-enactors! Can it be true? Take a listen to find out. (If this episode sounds different from our others, that's because it was recorded remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to be back in our usual studio space as soon as public health advisories allow.)
While this was meant to be a rapid-fire q& a session, we got into some pretty in-depth topics about Gainesville, music, and books, with Eric Lenasbunt of Bunt Backline Event Services! Eric is currently reading The Bezos Letters by Steve Anderson, which helps you grow your business like Amazon, but in general, he doesn’t have a favorite book. Collin also recommended his current read, Profit First by Mike Michalowicz, for those looking to extract more from their business. When Eric’s not working he’s outside with his family in Depot Park and bringing the energy wherever he goes. Eric Mitchellette is the Founder of Strategic Business Coach, Inc. and has over 20 years of experience as a financial advisor and CFO. He helps small to medium-sized businesses understand their financials and helps them become cash flow positive. Eric shares his process and some of the things you need to consider when you are looking to get a financial expert to open up the company books. Key Takeaways: [1:35] How did Eric first get started in business planning and capital formation? [3:15] Cash flow problems are common but sometimes business owners are not aware of what state their company is in until it’s too late. [4:40] How does Eric help business owners and turn their businesses around? [7:55] When Eric steps in, the biggest thing he has to do is educate business owners and leadership the state of the company and what that means. [11:50] After Eric knows where the numbers are, then it comes to adjusting the owner’s draw from the company and to restructure the finances so that it makes sense. [16:00] When owing money to vendors, what’s the best approach or financial plan to let them know the company plans to make good on their promises? [19:25] What happens to the employees during this financial turn-around time? [20:35] If an owner has to exit, what are some of their options? [25:50] What kinds of mistakes do owners tend to make? [27:55] Eric shares his thoughts on next-generation family management. [28:55] Final words of advice: You can’t plan enough. Have a strategic plan in place. Eric Eaton’s remarkable story winds its way through a young adulthood of sexual suppression, drug addiction, to being thrown out of the U.S. Marine Corp, to hospitalization for a near death heart infection, to living a healthy, vibrant life as a personal trainer, registered nurse and a proud gay man. The episode begins with Mat Garcia explaining her disappointment in what she thought was going to be a “dinner and dick date”. A discussion ensues about how things which can be normally quite painful can become very pleasurable during sexual arousal. When Eric joins us in the Pews we learn of his childhood experiences in the Catholic Church, his feelings of condemnation and guilt over his sexuality and his early attempts at being straight. We hear of his effort to escape the trauma through drugs and the Marines before almost dying in a Tampa area hospital before finally coming out to a nurse who had become a friend, his family and Glenn (who has known Eric since he was a boy). This wonderful story of overcoming religious and societal sexual repression finishes with a lot of fun including a revelation of why men give men and women give women the best oral sex and some solid advice about it, plus much, much more! This one ain’t going to be boring and by sharing it you may change someone’s life who is living in the darkness of a closeted existence or who condemns people for whom they love. NSFW or children. Strong Sexual Content, Language, Humor, Insight and Condemnation of Religion. A portion of all proceeds donated to combat human sex slave trafficking and genital mutilation.

Eric Dugan is founder of 3D Capital Management, where he runs two primary intraday systems: short-biased S&P 500 and long-short trend following S&P 500 using multiple global markets as inputs and indicators. His systems analyze the flow of markets around the world and attempt to identify how the action in a certain market will impact the S&P during U.S. trading hours. Eric has not missed a trading day since the inception of 3D Capital Management 11 years ago. Eric had been working construction in 1992 when his best friend moved to Chicago to trade. Shortly after his friend left, he reached back out to Eric to give him a job. December of 1992 was Eric’s first visit to Chicago for an interview with famed trader Monroe Trout, and in January of 1993 he began his first day ever trading for Trout Trading. Because Trout was a systematic trader, there was no real need to know “what” a trader was going to do, other than trade the system. Eric’s lack of knowledge of markets when he first started did not matter because the system was king. Eric worked for Trout Trading from 1993 – 1999. When Eric started he had zero experience and within a year he was manager of Pacific Rim desk at Trout Trading. He quickly learned how to identify weakness in the stock market, which has become his greatest asset throughout his career. In this episode of Trend Following Radio: Risk Control Identifying trends Profiting from weakness in the stock market Trading world markets Buying high and selling higher

[01:15] When Eric came to Singlegrain, they were getting 3000-4000 visits per month. [01:20] Now, they are getting around 170,000 visits per month. [01:24] It took 2 years to get the ball rolling. [01:45] Most clients come from word of mouth. [01:55] Blog posts won’t generate leads. [02:10] When people link to your content, that will help your domain authority among other things. [03:14] Neil's website gets good traffic, but it took him 2 years to get there. [03:45] Once you get a good amount of traffic, you will find that there are greater opportunities for leads. [04:00] Legion Athletics has done well through promoting content. [04:15] Be crafty: use surveys, listservs, etc. to generate leads. Eric and Neil have committed to throwing a FREE Marketing School Live Event in Los Angeles, once Marketing School reaches 1M downloads in a 30 day period. Take action: Rate, review, subscribe, and SHARE. Check the progress here! TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today’s Topic: My Failed Attempt at SEO [00:38] When Eric started doing SEO, he wanted to white and black hat stuff. [00:55] He made a website called Lightshow Videos. [01:10] WIthin a month or so, he was ranked #1 for lightshow videos. [01:20] However, it doesn’t matter where you rank if you don’t get any volume. [01:40] Neil’s first site was a job board. [01:47] He realized the sites that had the most amount of traffic, had the most pages. [02:00] He scraped Google and looked for the most popular pages, then recreated those on his site. [02:05] He then started getting thousands of visitors per month. [02:14] Once he added Ad Sense, Google then became wise to his scheme and his traffic slowed down. [03:00] Eric once made a website about getting rid of pimples. [03:15] He hired writers off of Text Brokers and had them write 300-500 word articles. [03:30] Traffic slowly increased, but then remained stagnant. [03:50] Eric learned that you get what you pay for: quality matters! [04:22] Don’t get too greedy with link building. [04:31] Neil acquired a site called “Battlefield Bypass”, which was a park that was once the site of a Civil War battle. The site had a bunch of government backlinks. [04:41] Then he moved on to online casinos. [05:00] Neil would dominate rankings by backlinking to popular sites. [05:30] He was getting results, but it would only last for a couple of months. [05:55] The point is: Aim for long-term success. [06:09] That’s all for today! [06:18] Go here to see how many downloads the show is getting. [01:08] If you are using an agency, in the first 30 days, there will be a lot of planning and brainstorming. [01:22] Within 90 days, you will see a change in impressions. [01:40] Eric has a cool webinar about his product “Clickflow”. [02:24] A lot of established companies suck at SEO. [03:12] When Eric started with SEO, he had a site called “Light Show Videos”. He also had a site called, “How to Get rid of Pimples”. [03:22] He wrote content and didn’t see any progress in the first 30 days. After 90/120 Days, he started to see improvements. [03:48] Patience is key! [04:23] Over time, SEO has become harder. [04:45] Overall, you need 2 full years to get things rolling. [05:07] Within the 2 year mark, you start to see growth. In episode #792, Eric and Neil discuss what you should do when your content marketing isn’t getting you any traffic or sales. Tune in to hear how you can turn things around. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today’s Topics: My Content Marketing Isn't Working. What Should I Do? [00:40] When Eric joined Singlegrain, their traffic was flat. [01:03] They audited their work and found the articles were low-quality and the algorithm wasn’t picking anything up in their content. [01:52] There are two camps: Blogger with no traffic, blogger with traffic but no sales. [02:10] If you don’t have traffic, try using SEMRush to figure out what is going wrong. [02:20] If a keyword has a high CPC, it means that the traffic is worth more. [03:00] If you aren’t making sales, you probably need to be more aggressive and use exit pop-ups, sliders, opt-ins, email marketing, drips, etc. [03:30] You will start seeing revenue when you create funnels. [03:47] Ahrefs has a keyword difficulty tool that shows how difficult it is to rank for a given keyword. [04:35] Your content may not take off right away, but if you use the aforementioned techniques, it will go well for you. [04:52] If you aren’t generating revenue, try quizzes. In episode #762, Eric and Neil discuss why you should stick to one marketing channel. Tune in to hear why focusing on one channel is so important. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today’s Topic: Why You Should Only Stick to One Marketing Channel [00:36] When Eric has tried too many channels at once, he has failed. [00:50] Doing too much spreads you too thin and can lead to disastrous results. [01:06] Focus on the thing that is most successful. In episode 753, Eric and Neil discuss the best way to write a cold email. Tune in to hear why you shouldn’t pitch someone right off the bat. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today’s Topic: Best Way to Write a Cold Email [00:35] When Eric started emailing people, he would write epic novels. [00:53] It’s important that your emails are concise. No one wants to read a novel! [01:03] Make sure you personalize it in some way. [01:15] For instance, Neil like bottled water, so you could find a way to incorporate that into your pitch. [01:40] Don’t make a sales pitch, pitch a call or a smaller ask. [02:00] Neil has found that when you pitch in your very first email, it is so much harder to close or convert that customer. [02:07] Build a conversation. [02:22] Ask people for their feedback, then maybe get on the phone with them. [02:28] Ask if certain changes would sweeten the pot for the customer. [03:26] Build a relationship before you pitch your customer. [03:52] Most people fail at emailing because they pitch in the very first email. [04:07] Take the Neil Patel template and customize it. [04:20] Taking the extra step to personalize your emails will up your conversions. [04:33] That’s all for today! In episode #726, Eric and Neill discuss ways to grow your marketing through partnerships. Tune in to hear what makes a great partnership. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today’s Topic: How to Grow Your Marketing Through Partnerships [00:40] Partnerships can be collaborating with SEO software and doing joint webinars or doing an affiliate partnership. [01:06] Neil thinks a partnership means a win-win, where everyone benefits from the collaboration. [01:33] When doing collabs, if what you are promoting for the partner doesn’t meet your audience’s needs or interests, nothing will come of this joint venture. [02:01] Neil has over 100,000 YouTube subscribers. If someone who wanted to partner with him only had 2000, he would decline. [02:22] If you have a small amount of followers, you need to up the ante to make it worth your partner’s while (payment, etc.). [03:00] However, most partnerships will not be equal. [03:15] Figure out what you can leverage and how the partnership would be beneficial. [03:40] Joint webinars are a great way to partner up with other companies and people. [04:15] Virtual conferences have hit Neil up for email blasts, but he didn’t do it, because the numbers didn’t move him. [05:00] Neil and Eric both do partnerships. [05:34] When Eric was at Treehouse, to get started, they made a partnerships page. [05:50] Neil thinks when you’re starting out, bundling is a great way to create a mutually beneficial partnership. [06:18] Use AppSumo, which is a place that runs promotions or offers. [06:38] Be careful with AppSumo, though: they take a percentage from what you make. [07:06] That’s all for today! In episode #707, Eric and Neil discuss why your blog isn’t loved by Google. Tune in to hear the one big mistake most people make. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today’s Topic: This is Why Your Blog Isn't Loved by Google [00:35] People like using web addresses that stick to the format “blog.domain.com” [01:08] Eric and Neil believe this is a mistake. [01:25] When Eric’s past companies switched from a sub-domain to a sub-folder, traffic increased. [02:30] If you’re going to switch, you have to change all of your internal links plus 301 them. [03:00] A lot of work is involved in switching over. Use Screaming Frog to make sure you changed everything over correctly. [03:45] You have to make sure you have an excel sheet your engineers can follow. [04:50] Go post by post when moving everything. [05:00] This is also an opportunity to update and delete content. [05:15] Make sure all your info is up to date. [05:22] That’s it for today! [05:27] Go to Singlegrain.com/Giveway for a special marketing tool giveaway! In episode #701, Eric and Neil discuss what happens when you buy links. Tune in to hear why this isn’t the best practice. TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [00:27] Today’s Topic: Here's What Happens When You Buy Links [00:35] When Eric was first doing SEO, he would peruse black hat forums. [00:47] Wicked Fire has a lot of offers for paid tools. [01:01] Eric would buy links for sites and his sites would shoot up in the rankings. [01:15] He was using cheap content brokers and they would blast a bunch of links, his rankings would increase, but then go back down after a couple days. [01:45] Neil tried this with sponsoring an online poker contest. [02:05] Sometimes these things work, but more often than not: you get burned. [02:27] It’s cheaper and smarter to build your own site with quality content. [02:41] Your rankings will maintain when you build your own site. [03:26] Always play the long game. [03:40] Build an audience. [03:50] Investors are burned from buying high-ranking SEO sites. [04:00] Sites that are built just to get to the top never last. [04:54] Don’t waste your time buying links.
