There are ALWAYS opportunities to TEACH
Peter Dutton is one of the Run Culture Owl athletes I coach, we have worked together for the past 5 years! The hidden advantage of doing a podcast with an athlete you have coached for that long is that you have an incredible audio time capsule to re-visit! In fact, as I write this blurb I am re-listening to the very first podcast we did together (S1-Ep. 30 Feb 2020), it's quite an interesting process as a coach; he's definitely the same person but a little bit different...as am I! It has been a year to the day since the last time Pete was on the podcast! So, please do yourself a favor and listen in to hear; -How Pete's 3 month US trip went (he trained at Altitude in Boulder and Flagstaff!). -Or how he salvaged, in his words; 'the track season from hell!' .... -and how I have finally given him the green light to try to make the 2024 Melbourne Marathon start line!
Jens Voet wants you to understand that what is PLANNED will not always MATCH what is EXECUTED⚖️ . While short-term this could be just fine, but perhaps this is not such a good thing in the long run. Work on that COACH-ATHLETE relationship and do some sound monitoring to know when things are going wrong
Sometimes a coaching match is not a good one! In this episode, we navigate how to get more ideal athletes to work with you by your sales call/inquiry process and weed out ones that potentially won't work and what to do after the relationship has started and it goes sour. This episode will help endurance coaches navigate what matters to the coach in the relationship, determine your no-go's and how to listen better to red flags in the sales process. And then what to do when it doesn't work.I would love to connect with you over on Instagram. You can find me @CoachMichelleLake. Change, both good and bad, can be hard to recognize because real change happens over time. Today, we look at how to appreciate the actions you take, even though they don't seem like much right now. How do we know that we're improving, getting stronger, or moving the right direction? Sometimes it's about shifting your “satisfaction perspective” and knowing what's best for you. We get into diet changes, building strength, getting faster, and recognizing things that truly make us happy. We look at being an advocate for yourself and recognizing your trends. We talk about why being “fit” doesn't always mean someone's “healthy.” And we talk about the difference between looking and seeing something. The clarity of what's real and what's not. Topics: Growing when you have the opportunities Over the road trucker When tears are shed The Coach/Athlete relationship is personal High burnout rate for coaches AND athletes We all want return on investment It's hard to recognize slow improvement Being “fit” doesn't always equal “healthy” Overall health is the goal Creating your best life? What is happiness? Shifting perspective on satisfaction Development is long-term Gradual change isn't “exciting” Bad diets with good people Empathy - Advocate for your life Don't absorb what's going on around you Recognizing growth When you become unrecognizable Constant decisions Recognizing your own trends When we look but don't see Slow down and you'll soak it in Everyone wants to do sooo much Things are never going to be “perfect” Coaching Inquiries Mike Tarrolly - CrushingIron@gmail.com Robbie Bruce - C26Coach@gmail.com www.c26triathlon.com

In this week's podcast, we focus on the top 5 topics that coaches often revisit over and over again with their athletes. And for good reason! These themes are the backbone of good training: reducing injury risk, aerobic zone training, fueling, hydration, and short term goals vs long term goals. We dive into each one of them and revisit the basics of training and the way we approach training. Also, we hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! We are so grateful for your support of this podcast!

Melissa is the newest addition to YogiTriathlete's coaching team. She started with us on January 1st, and her magnetism as a coach has attracted spectacular athletes to her roster so far. We love having her on the team alongside coaches Daniel, Chef Lynda, BJ, and myself. The other piece we love so much is how it all went down. Melissa and I connected on Instagram a few years ago, and I had the honor of spending seven nights and eight days with her on a retreat last year in Costa Rica. Of course, I now understand that experience poured the foundation for our expanded relationship that began last fall. On November 28th, we launched the OH Show, announcing we wanted to hire a running coach. On December 5th, Melissa posted on Instagram that she was looking to take on athletes for coaching, a post I saw the following day. I immediately sent her a DM to see if she was open to talking, which she answered absolutely! But even before her response, I knew the person I described in my ask to the universe was just delivered. However, in all that is universal love, Melissa is everything we asked for and more. She is a long-distance runner, coach, triathlete, and herbalist currently finishing her Master's in Clinical Herbal Medicine at the Maryland University of Integrated Health. Melissa's coaching surrounds running, strength training, cross-training, mobility, whole-body wellness, and herbal consultations for athletes who seek optimal human performance. Her philosophy focuses on "pushing the boundaries we draw for ourselves and stepping past resistance." Thank you to our patrons who support this podcast and the Awake Athlete podcast on Patreon. If you want to learn about what it means to be a patron, please visit patreon.com/yogitriathlete. In this episode, we discuss: - Melissa's path to YogiTriathlete - the experience of "retreat life" - growth from contrast - coaching perspective - in giving, we receive - band nerd to endurance athlete - knowing when to rest in order to absorb fitness - how cycling and swimming benefit run performance - consistency and routine helps build good habits - trust over fear - connecting with ourselves through nature - herbalism for athletes - Melissa's ethos - meditation, nutrition, mindset, and consistency Namaste- Jess

In this episode of the Forza Athletics Life and Coaching Podcast I continue to share my research focused on coach-athlete relationships from the perspective of Olympic throwing coaches. One of the main themes that emerged from my qualitative research study was that Olympic throwing coaches felt that is was important for a coach to have an established coaching philosophy anchored by values/beliefs that drove their coaching. The coaches also shared their thoughts about the fluidity of their coaching style to ensure they were meeting the needs of their Olympic throwing athletes. To read more about my research click here.
RTS Coaches Adam Jones, Ross Leppala, and John Garafano sit down to discuss how the Coach and Athlete Relationship can change over time. The conversation is from a live panel discussion between Matt Fitzgerald, Bertrand Newson, Amanda Brooks and Dr Asher Henry, hosted by Jake Tuber and Hanna Hunstad. The four panelists are all coaches and in this episode they answer 3 key questions: -What do you wish more of your athletes knew? -What will you not do as a coach? -What do you wish more athletes would ask you as a coach? In this episode we talk about: -going all in on your goals -consistently over perfection -“slow” is not a bad word -easy days easy -the power of language -fitting in with the running community -the lost art of rest and recovery -nutrition and sleep for improved performance and injury prevention -structuring training for everyday runners: running, strength workouts, and complete rest days -the role of coaches -coaches not promising quick results -staying in your lane and listening -the coach-athlete relationship -finding the perfect coach -not setting limits and replacing “can't” with “can” -not being afraid to ask why and questioning If you liked this conversation and want to be a part of the next Endeavorun Retreat in Boulder, follow @endeavorun on Instagram. There's a common misconception in medicine that patients cannot heal themselves. But recently, there's been a big push toward a coach-athlete approach, one that we've been using a lot at Innovative Medicine. To discuss this method, we turned to Dr. Nick Athens, a chiropractor with over 40 years of experience who has worked with over 25,000 patients and completed over 600,000 adjustments. He'll shed some light on the athlete-coach relationship and explain why the patient's will to succeed is equally as important as the doctor's knowledge and expertise.
