My guest today is a woman whose style I have admired for a very long time.To quote the fashion journalist Jess Cartner-Morley, fashion director, stylist and curator Lucinda Chambers has the kind of style you just can't buy. And, like many other women, I've certainly tried. Lucinda has worked in the fashion industry for more than three decades. For 25 years she was fashion director of British Vogue, as well as creative consultant to brands ranging from Prada and Marni to H&M and River Island. Five years ago, she left Vogue in the kind of blaze that will be familiar to many midlife women who intentionally or otherwise put a bomb under everything. She went on to co-found Collagerie, a digital platform that curates, frankly, lovely things that range in price from the very affordable to the very much not. TBH I took one look at Collagerie's site and practically handed over the keys to my bank account.Lucinda joined me from her beautiful toasty TV room to tell me why being pushed out of Vogue was a blessing and the joy of embracing BIG change in her 50s. We also discussed the difference between drive and ambition, why you can't be stylish if you're not comfortable and how to put some colour confidence in your wardrobe.• If you loved this episode, you might also like my conversations with India Knight and Times Fashion Director Anna Murphy. * You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me.* And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com• The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Juliette Nicholls @ Pineapple Audio Production. British Vogue's editor-in-chief Edward Enninful has announced he's stepping down. But why? In the world of high fashion, was his downfall the result of style over substance, rumours of diva-like behaviour or was he simply ahead of his time? And how did the rumoured power struggle between new-blood Enninful and old-guard Anna Wintour play out? This podcast was brought to you thanks to the support of readers of The Times and The Sunday Times. Is sustainable fashion elitist? Does fashion contribute to poor body image and eating disorders by perpetuating a single, unattainable beauty ideal? What can we do about fashion's diversity problem? How do we, as consumers of fashion, navigate all this? "You can’t do it all at the moment,” says this week's guest. “You have to make choices based on your values and those are your personal ethics.” Sass Brown is an English designer, educator and the author of Eco Fashion. For many years, Sass taught at FIT in New York. She was the Founding Dean of the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI). She has purple hair, is a dedicated thrifter and has her shoes made by hand. But actually, this is not an interview about a life in fashion... In this conversation, we focus on how fashion shapes our collective image, and how and why we allow it to dictate culture, and often get it so wrong.
This week on the Electric Runway podcast, we're continuing our conversation on avatars and digital representation with Ebbe Altberg, the CEO of Linden Lab, the company behind Second Life. In case you're not familiar with it, Second Life is an online virtual world created in 2002. Today, approximately one million people log in regularly to play. What we were interested in—and the reason we reached out to Ebbe—is to learn more about how fashion, retail and commerce work in Second Life, as we're increasingly fascinated with virtual clothing and virtual shopping. We were also curious to learn more about Sansar, Linden Lab’s foray into social virtual reality.Ebbe's conversation with fashion futurist Amanda Cosco explores what we can extrapolate about the future of fashion and culture by looking at how people behave in online games today, including how they dress, where they shop, and where their clothes come from.

Kate Darvill lives an incredibly fashionable life. It just takes a bloody lot of work to get there. With four children under four, that's a lot of sticky fingers on your designer threads. Kate shares how motherhood made her better at her job, how she gets four kids to bed and the secret to kid-proof dressing (hint: it involves a lot of black and baby wipes.) And yes, she shares a glimpse inside the glamorous world of the Vogue offices. It's voyeurism at its most stylish. After the collapse of the USSR, Vogue Magazine launched in Russia in 1998. But it was a difficult beginning for the glossy fashion publication as the country was in the middle of an economic crisis at the time. Aliona Doletskaya was the first editor in chief, and she told Rebecca Kesby how she wanted to represent the best of Russian design as well as bring the West to Russians.
