What if Max Verstappen joined Mercedes instead of Red Bull and how would that have shaken up the turbo-hybrid era? Picture Schumacher building Sauber into a powerhouse, Jean Alesi lifting trophies with Williams or Ayrton Senna leading Ferrari's charge back to the front. Then the real impact of Kubica's rally accident, what could have happened if Damon Hill took on McLaren's superteam and how Fernando Alonso's career might have gone with different team choices. We also weigh up the long-term effects if Lewis Hamilton had stayed loyal to McLaren and what that would mean for both Mercedes and F1 history. If you're an F1 fan who loves “what if” scenarios and big sliding-doors moments, this is a must-watch!

Lap 67 was the moment the McLaren boys came together. Stay calm though because it's not as nasty as it seems. Hulk is back for another handful of points, whatever they have put on that Sauber is working, the question now is.... what is it? Norris put his hand up and took full responsibility, is this the new age racer attitude or a well-managed team. And it's the premier of the F1 movie this week, are you as excited as we are? This could be one for the ages. All the plus much much more on this week's episode of Beyond the Racing Line.
Canada delivered the drama for both Mercedes AND McLaren. F1 2025 just got a whole lot more interesting after this Grand Prix.Climb the ladder with me over on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsFrom George Russell's flawless drive and Kimi Antonelli's first podium for Mercedes to a fiery and yet inevitable McLaren clash between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, the Canadian Grand Prix did NOT disappoint! Max Verstappen managed a defensive second place while Fernando Alonso used his experience to salvage solid points for Aston Martin...whilst Lance Stroll completely collapsed at the back. Sauber, Haas and Alpine all had stories of breakthroughs, missed chances and heartbreak thanks to DRS trains! Meanwhile, Ferrari battled back from early setbacks to salvage decent points and Williams' Albon suffered another weekend to forget. We break down the winners, the losers, and the moments that will shape the rest of the season, including Norris' race-defining error which was fortunately de-escalated...for now.

We explain why Aston Martin has taken another step backwards this season and whether Adrian Newey's arrival can change that in the latest edition of The Race F1 Podcast.Jon Noble and Mark Hughes join Edd Straw to discuss the team's troubles this year, and how Aston Martin slid to this point having claimed six podium finishes in the first eight races of 2023. We discuss the car and upgrade troubles in that period, and ask if the recent upturn after the package introduced at Imola recently might be a turning point. Newey's criticisms of the driver-in-loop simulator are also addressed, along with the other areas where the Silverstone-based squad needs to improve if it's to deliver on its objective of becoming a title-winning force. A Spanish GP that most of us circled with a new front wing directive coming into effect did nothing to slow the Mclaren Rocketship piloted and won by Oscar Piastri ! The race went into a different interesting chapter when Kimi`s Mercedes suffered another PU issue and retired which has become a really worrying trend lately for the usually bulletproof Merc engines! Max was put on Hard tires while those around him on the restart had better grip tires. Lecric after a quick fight and slight bump with Max managed to overtake him, Russell who was behind went for it and Max aggressively closed the gap and veered towards Russell. The team told Max to give the position to Russell which really upset him, and in the process of Rusell closing in thinking Max was letting him pass Max in what seemed on purpose hit the side of Russell`s car. Max was given 10 sec penalty which dropped him to 10th position and also 3 penalty license pts. Another major highlight was Hulkerberg who was able to bag 5th position on the last lap by passing Hamilton giving Sauber and their upgraded car a fantastic result and weekend.
Another wild F1 weekend in which Spain shook up the championship...but NOT in the way you thought it would. Climb the ladder with me over on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsMcLaren extended their dominance with a commanding one-two finish, as Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris pulled further ahead in the championship battle while Verstappen's title hopes took a big hit after late-race chaos and a costly penalty. Sauber delivered one of the feelgood stories of the weekend, jumping up the standings thanks to a vintage drive from Nico Hulkenberg and some smart strategy calls, lifting Sauber off the bottom for the first time in over a year! Mercedes showed revived pace as George Russell stormed back into the top five and Charles Leclerc's relentless charge helped Ferrari leap to second in the team standings and back-to-back podiums. Breakout rookie performances from Isack Hadjar and steady points from Pierre Gasly kept things interesting in the midfield, while Fernando Alonso brought the Spanish crowd to their feet by scoring his first points of the season in front of his home fans. Not every team left Barcelona happy. Lance Stroll's absence sparked fresh rumors about his future and Williams unraveled with penalties and damaged front wings, even more than they had expected. No love for Carlos Sainz at his home race. Haas struggled for pace and strategy, while Yuki Tsunoda's tough luck continued despite flashes of speed. Don't miss this full breakdown of every winner and loser from the Spanish Grand Prix.

Did the new technical directive really make headway for anyone in this race? And should the safety car restart have happened earlier? (Pardon the lack of audio punch in Kunal's track!) Before all else, did Max Verstappen deliberately ram into George Russell as the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix came to a conclusion? He received a 10-second time penalty for "causing a collision", but was Verstappen angry at Russell's driving or Red Bull's decision to put him on the hard tyre at the Safety Car restart, or both? But maybe the fans were entertained because they voted for Max Verstappen as the "Driver of the Day" for the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix. At the front, McLaren's Oscar Piastri dominated the race proceedings to score his 5th F1 win of the season. Lando Norris had yet another messy start, while Charles Leclerc ran a different tyre strategy to score yet another podium. Lots of movements in the Drivers' and Constructors' championship after the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix. - Fernando Alonso scored points at home - his first points of the season! He's the 18th driver to score points in 2025. - Isack Hadjar jumps Esteban Oon for 9th- Nico Hulkenberg jumps to 11th in the WDC, ahead of Carlos Sainz. - Pierre Gasly jumps Yuki Tsunoda for 14th. - Ferrari jumps to 2nd place in the Constructors' Championship - 165 points- Mercedes is down to 3rd (159 points), Red Bull Racing are 4th (144 points) - Racing Bulls jumps Haas for 7th place (28 points).- Sauber is up to 8th - up 2 places! It was a race of some of the nicest overtakes this season, and controversial ones too. That's why we're now LIVE on the Inside Line #F1 Podcast with Kunal Shah and Soumil Arora. 3 penalty points for Sundaram Ramaswami on missing our show today! Today, Ben and Nick review the 2025 Spanish GP. They discuss Max ramming into George, Oscar taking the win, and Sauber coming out of no where to finish 5th and 12. Enjoy!

Everyone's watching the front of the F1 grid, but it's time to pay attention to the rookie quietly building something special at the back: Gabriel Bortoleto.Climb the ladder with me on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsGabriel Bortoleto isn't just another new face on the Formula 1 grid...he's a proven champion taking his first steps with Sauber in the toughest of conditions. With no FP1 sessions, limited testing, and a car barely clinging to the midfield, Bortoleto's F1 journey mirrors that of George Russell at Williams in his rookie year. But just like Russell, who transformed those tough early years into title-contending consistency, Bortoleto is showing the same signs of focus, resilience, and long-game thinking. His work ethic has already turned heads at Sauber, with Mattia Binotto and Jonathon Wheatley both praising his maturity and technical feedback during pre-season testing. And with Nico Hülkenberg as a mentor, the Brazilian rookie is soaking up knowledge that could shape his future rise. What sets Bortoleto apart is more than just his results, it's how he's preparing behind the scenes and refusing to let a slow start define him. In a sport that often forgets about anyone outside the top 10, Bortoleto is grinding, learning, and slowly turning heads. For Brazil, he's not just a new driver, he's a spark of hope in a country still waiting for its next F1 hero and maybe could see a couple more of their own join Gabi in the years to come - Rafael Camara? Felipe Drugovich FINALLY? If you think there's no story worth watching at the back of the grid, think again. This is the kind of quiet beginning that often leads to something great.
