ESA's Risk-based Oversight (RBO) program was developed more than two years ago as a tool to reduce the burden on contractor's time. On this episode, host Karen Ras chats with Will Barrett, ESA's General Manager for Operations, Planning and Support, to answer electrical contractors' most frequent questions about RBO and to get tips on how to simplify the inspection process. What would happen in terms of our health and wealth if we started only purcashing electric vehicles by the year 2030? Today on the podcast I talk to Will Barrett of the American Lung Association about the new analysis the ALA has commissioned called the Road to Clean Air. We recorded this with sky high levels of PM2.5 outside due to wildfires worsened by climate change, and it was an analysis that gave me some hope on the dual benefits of addressing climate change and decreasing particulate matter. Furthermore, Will is hopeful that we can actually achieve these goals. Listen to the podcast today for a dose of hope, then take action for healthy air in your own life. What Can You Do? 1- Speak up about the health of clean air- you can sign the ALA's petition to your local Governor to focus on healthy air here. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Post about the importance of clean air with the #Standupforcleanair. 2- Ask your representatives at all levels of government, including your state legislature to incentivize electric vehicles. Ask your state, town or county to only purchase electric vehicles- frequently a municipality has bulk purchasing power and can invest in infrastructure that makes electrification more possible for individuals and businesses. 3- Donate to the ALA here- show support from the Air Health Our Health community! 4- Are you considering purchasing a new car soon? Choose electric! Or a plug-in hybrid with a decent range if you're not ready to go full electric. Consumer Reports estimates a typical EV owner can save $800-$1000 on fuel costs especially if they charge at home, and lifetime savings of $4,600 on vehicle maintenance, oil changes, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- See the blog post for more information and references, or go to airhealthourhealth.org. During this shutdown we've seen the LA skyline emerge from a haze as if on cue from a cinematographer, the Himalayas visible from India for the first time in memory, and images from space revealing a planet unburdened by pollution not seen in generations. It's as though humans took a moment to rest so the planet could breath. But at what cost, and what of this temporary pause will become permanent? The American Lung Association recently released their annual State of the Air report . Will Barrett is the Director of Clean Air advocacy for the American Lung Association. “Nearly half of Americans live in counties that have unhealthy ozone or particle pollution. Unfortunately that includes about two and a half million people in the Salt Lake City region," Barrett said.

How are climate change policies at the state level impacting California's economy, particularly, the transportation sector? We all do it! In fact, you're doing it right now, right? We're talking about breathing the air around you. The American Lung Association recently issued a report card for cities across the country. In Los Angeles and the counties of Southern California... we got an F. We failed. In fact, we failed in 19 of the last 20 years. To the lung association 80% of that is because of the cars on our roads and freeways. To the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) it's mostly the big trucks. The AQMD says it has been working hard on converting trucks to zero-emission vehicles. The lung association says that despite the failing grade there has been much progress over the years in improving the air we breath. But, doctors say they're not necessarily seeing a corresponding improving in patient health. In this podcast we hear from the AQMD's Wayne Nastri and Dr. Philip Fine. On this episode of the Horse Connection we hosted Bailey Barrett and Jade Barrett who are both competing in the High School Rodeo Finals in Abilene TX at the Taylor county Expo center. To catch the Finals live go to www.thsra.org Both these young men grew up on a horse out here in West Texas working cattle with their dad Will Barrett. Bailey and Jade are riding in the Saddle Bronc and Bareback horse competition this week against 16 Bareback riders and 23 Saddle Bronc Riders all who are competing for a spot to be in the National High School Rodeo Finals. Bailey Barrett hopes to continue on into college and build up to being in the PRCA full time when he finishes up with college. Bailey has already received a scholarship offer to go to Panhandle State University in Oklahoma and hopes to have other scholarship offers in the future. Jade Barrett is going to pursue being a Vet in College and wants to be a Large animal Vet specializing in Equine Veterinary practice when he Finishes College.
