Society is evolving at an unprecedented pace, but are our schools keeping up? In this compelling conversation, Adriano Di Prato, co-author of Game Changers: Leading Today's Learning for Tomorrow's World, explores the balance between honoring our traditions and exploring innovation in education. We discuss how school leaders can adapt to a rapidly changing world, what it means to be a "game-changing" leader, and the role courage and purpose play in transforming schools for a future-ready model. If you're ready to challenge the status quo and rethink leadership in education, this deep and impactful conversation is for you!  About Adriano Di Prato: Adriano Di Prato serves as the Campus Director at LCI Melbourne, a progressive art, design, and enterprise institute of higher education that is part of a global network of 23 campuses, originally founded as LaSalle College International in Montreal, Canada, over 65 years ago. Adriano is the co-author of the bestselling book Game Changers: Leading Today's Learning for Tomorrow's World, where he advocates for a bold new social contract for learning—one grounded in regenerative, long-term interactions that prioritise human-centred innovation, ecological sustainability, and the transformative potential of education. His work challenges the status quo, emphasising the importance of designing learning ecosystems that nurture both individual growth and collective wellbeing. An influential thought leader, Adriano was named one of the Edruptors of 2022 by ISC Research UK and has been recognised as one of Australia's Top 50 Most Influential Educators by The Educator magazine in both 2022 and 2023. In 2024, he was invited to deliver a keynote at the Second Arab International Conference on AI in Education in Tunisia, where he explored the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in reshaping education while emphasising unlocking the human dimension within educational ecosystems. In 2023, Adriano's collaboration with Catholic Education South Australia led to the creation of Limitless Possibilities, a social entrepreneurial learning model that earned recognition in the inaugural ACER Teacher Awards for Curriculum Design and Implementation. Grounded in Catholic Social Teaching Principles and underpinned by Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Design Thinking methodologies, this innovative framework empowers students to create socially just and sustainable solutions for a better future. Throughout his extensive 26-year career in secondary education, Adriano has held key leadership roles in curriculum, operations, and student well-being. This includes 12 years as Deputy Principal at Marcellin College, where his leadership helped establish the school as one of Victoria's top-performing Catholic boys' schools. He also served for 10 years at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, including four years as Deputy Principal, where he contributed to the development of a vibrant and inclusive learning community. Academically, Adriano holds a Bachelor of Arts (Design) from Monash University, a Teaching degree, a Master of School Leadership from the University of Melbourne, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Not-for-Profit Management from Australian Catholic University. Kallas udzieliła nam wywiadu przy okazji uczestnictwa w zorganizowanej w Warszawie przez OECD Global Forum „Education for the Future. Challenges to Curriculum Design and Effective Implementation.” Chodzi o to, by dzieci nauczyły się rozsądnego korzystania z tych urządzeń.

This is your host, Ting Ting, from Las Vegas, and welcome back to another episode of the Everything SPI series. Today, Spencer and I will be discussing the important topic of Teaching and Curriculum Design. Both Spencer and I are thrilled about this episode. We'll start by discussing the types of courses that can be taught utilizing single pitch terrain. Then, we'll dive into our guiding principles, RACK and FIRE. We'll use a case study to explore the “F” in FIRE, which stands for Formulate, in detail. Both Spencer and I are AMGA certified Rock Guides and SPI Providers. We co-taught an SPI course back in October 2023 and found that our teaching style was quite compatible and complimentary. Therefore, we decided to do this podcast series, Everything SPI, to create supplemental material related to the SPI programs.Spencer and I both have deep roots in climbing education. We have over 20 years of field instructing experience and are confident that we can provide valuable insights. We also recognize that the field of climbing instruction is dynamic and we can't possibly know everything. So, if you have any questions, feedback, please reach out to help us improve. In this episode I talk about how fun curriculum writing can be, and how it's such a creative outlet. One of my favorite things about curriculum development is that you get to think about things that are interesting in the world and bring it into the curriculum that you create.I want you to think about when developing curriculum, you get to create what you find interesting and what you want to see out there in the world. As teachers, we can feel really boxed in by what we're told we have to teach or how we have to teach it. So working in curriculum design for me has been really an exploration and freedom. It's why I think more teachers should try it! For all links and resources mentioned in this episode, head to the show notes: https://www.educatorforever.com/episode101.

Sarah Hadden and Hemma Lomax were simply enchanted by a presentation by Michelle Beistle and Ashley Dubriwny on the art of story building at the SCCE Compliance and Ethics Institute in Chicago earlier this year and couldn't wait to share this experience with the GWIC community. Michelle and Ashley literally wake up every day to save the planet in their roles as compliance professionals at The Nature Conservancy (TNC). They have a magnificent talent not only for spinning together an engaging story that awakens the senses, and achieves impact, connection and relevance, but also for helping others to recognize that we all have it in us to create inspiring and poignant stories. With the help of some simple building blocks and concrete steps, Michelle and Ashley show us that all humans are innately capable of using everyday experiences to build relevant and engaging stories and to share powerful and memorable messages. Inspiration is everywhere. You won't want to miss this masterclass opportunity to unlock the power of story building for your compliance program and beyond. Michelle Beistle joined TNC in April 2019 as the Chief Ethics & Compliance. She is responsible for implementing and managing TNC's global Ethics program. Michelle leads a global team who work to promote and foster a culture of integrity across the organization. Michelle is an experienced leader known for collaboration, problem-solving and strategic business acumen. Student centered norms and classroom design are important to establishing the ownership and engagement we desire. But what about when we get into the day-to-day, actual content area instruction?  Many of our teacher manuals aren't particularly designed to be student-centered, primarily because the big publishers don't know our actual students! There are somethings we can do, though, to adapt our content delivery and activities to be more student-centered: 1. Overlapping our content areas  2. Intentionally using formative assessments and flexibility of pacing 3. Providing opportunities to go deeper, not just move faster

YOU DID IT!! It is the last episode of our Curriculum Design mini-series and we are wrapping it up with a little extra support with what I think is the most challenging assessment to write, the end-of-unit tests. Now, let's be clear, no assessment is easy to write, and writing tests is NOT for the faint of heart. Of course, I want to give you as many helpful tips as I can, so in today's episode, I am giving you a glimpse into how I write my end-of-unit tests. As I mentioned, writing tests is challenging, and I don't want you diving into this thinking it will be easy peasy because, quite honestly, it won't be. However, I hope that hearing how I create my end-of-unit tests makes it a bit more manageable. In this episode, I am sharing what I recommend you use as a starting point, how I typically break down the types of questions on tests, how I like to divide up my end-of-unit tests, and why it is CRUCIAL you review your tests for bias. I hope you found this mini-series to be incredibly helpful and packed full of useful information! I am so grateful that you are spending your summer with me and preparing for the school year! Huge CONGRATULATIONS, teacher friend! You made it to the final part of our curriculum design mini-series! I am so incredibly proud of you! Even if you only completed part 1, you still made progress, and small progress is better than no progress! We have spent the last few weeks walking through the first four parts of curriculum design, but today, we are diving into how to align your assessments. When I say “align your assessments,” I'm sure many think that means teaching to the test. That is NOT at all what I mean. What it does mean is that we are creating meaning and intentionality with everything we do in our instruction. We want our students to be motivated to complete their work and not just see it as busy work, which is why it is so important to ensure that your assessments are aligned to the learning and instructional activities that took place throughout the unit. In this episode, I'm sharing how I create formative and summative assessments for my curricula and the importance of making sure that every objective on the assessment is covered. I am so grateful that you have been following along with the Summer Podcast PD. Think through these 10 questions:What overall themes do I want to thread throughout my entire course? What are the hardest topics traditionally for students? What are the hardest times of year you typically experience for yourself?Does it make more sense to go macro to micro? Or micro to macro? Are there any units that HAVE to be taught in a certain sequence? Are there any units (or concepts within units) that might make more sense taught in a different order? What units best lend themselves to spring weather and getting students outside? What units naturally have some fun projects in them that would be great for ending the year with?Which unit in my course BEST ties all the other units together? Is the sequence I have been using really effective or are there changes I could make to improve it?Resources Mentioned:Sign up for the FREE Summer Podcast PDDownload your FREE Classroom Reset Challenge.Send me a DM on Instagram: @its.not.rocket.scienceSend me an email: rebecca@itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.com Follow, rate, and review on Apple Podcasts.Show Notes: https://itsnotrocketscienceclassroom.com/episode80
