And keep pen and paper handy - we offer up so much info, you are going to want to take notes. For in this episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are going to cover: Our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by the Clint's Comics in downtown Kansas City. John and Jerry attempt to guess Cullen's choice for next week. As usual, his pick was out of leftfield. Cullen spent last weekend at Wizard World Portland, staffing the Hero Initiative table where he hosted writer Christopher Priest. Cullen also got to host panels and meet some new friends on the show floor. What are we reading this year? Follow us on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #My500ComicGoal to get the inside scoop on what's in our to-read pile. Saving the best for last, we have an interview with Pat Kawula about his Get in the Game Kickstarter, which is running now. Get in the Game is an anthology collection of video game stories, ranging from arcades to game consoles to VR headsets and more. This is a fun collection of stories that will delight readers of all ages. This Kickstarter runs until February 27, so go ahead and click on the link to support the project. Also, Pat handles the exhibitors and artist alley for Cherry Capital Comic Con in Traverse City, Michigan. Held over Memorial Day weekend, Cherry Capital is Northern Michigan's largest comic book convention. Pat gives us his history with the con and some of the things the con does each year, including a special fundraiser for the Hero Initiative. We would love to hear your comments on the show. While Cullen was getting things ready this week for Wizard World Portland, John and Jerry decided to talk Star Trek. Sure, we could have discussed it ourselves and put out a decent podcast, but what if we talk to some guys who know Star Trek? Like really know the shows and the characters and the merchandising inside and out? So sit back and enjoy our conversation with Kansas City-based authors Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore. Dayton and Kevin have partnered on multiple Star Trek novels over the years, as well as their projects. Whether it's the original series, Next Generation, the Kelvin universe, or Discovery, these two authors have a lot of insight into what keeps Star Trek relevant after more than 50 years in the pop culture world. This just so happens to coincide with the launch of Picard on CBS All Access. With a lot of familiar faces to reconnect with, people are preparing their Earl Grey tea and are commanding their computers to Make It So as they watch the all-new adventures of Jean-Luc Picard. To get a full list of everything Dayton and Kevin have worked on together, check out DaytonWard.com | Stuff I've Written. In addition to the Star Trek discussion, we have our weekly Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our good friends at Clint's Comics. All three guys voted to "Make Mine Marvel" for books coming out on January 29. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. We find ourselves halfway through January now and assume that the new year's resolutions you made may have fallen by the wayside. Never fear though, for the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! has a new set of resolutions that we can all get behind. Comic Book Resolutions! This list was put together by Peter Rios for his Daily Rios podcast two weeks ago. Peter offered up 10 resolutions for the comic book lover. Some of these are already habits of ours, so we are doing great keeping these resolutions. We even offer up an extra resolution that needs to be practiced each and every day by EVERYONE! In addition to the resolutions, we got to see some new movie trailers this past week for films coming out later this year. We discuss the second Black Widow trailer, plus the first looks at Bloodshot and Morbius. Plus we take a look at a publicity memo for the new Eternals movie. Cullen went to I Like Comics last weekend for the Image Comics partners signing. With a stack of books and cards, you just know that Cullen had to be first in line. And sure enough, he forgot to get one of his books signed. Listen in for the full details. (And be sure to find Cullen next weekend at Wizard World Portland, where he will be setting up at the Hero Initiative table with legendary writer Christopher Priest.) Of course, we have our weekly Pick 3 choices for next Wednesday, sponsored by our good friends at Clint's Comics. There are so many good books coming out next week -- how can we ever limit the list to just three? We would love to hear your comments on the show. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we swing into the final issues of our Spider-Verse read-along of the Marvel event from 2014. You know, that webbed event with Peter, Miles, Ben, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham and more that led to the Academy Award winning movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Strap in because the final reads are action packed! Who lives? Who dies? Who gets to go home? These questions and many more will be answered in the following books: Amazing Spider-Man #12-#15 Spider-Man 2099 #7 & #8 Scarlet Spiders #2 & #3 Spider-Verse Team-Up #3 We have our Pick 3 choices for books coming out next week at your local comic book shops. John does his best to stump Jerry and Cullen with his pick for March 6. For the record, he is not picking Fartnite. We wrap things up with Cullen's recap of Wizard World Portland. Hanging out with Scott Koblish, getting a picture taken with Chelsea Cain, and hanging out at a comic book store to meet Brian Michael Bendis and friends. Who said starting a comic book podcast wouldn't pay off for us? As this podcast goes up, we are now four weeks away from Planet Comicon. You can find us at the Hero Initiative booth, or hosting panels with comic guests. Be sure to check out the WCPE panel on Saturday morning at 10:30. We have a lot of awesome prizes to give away. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are past the halfway mark with our Spider-Verse read-along of the Marvel event from 2014 that led to the hit movie released back in December. With Week 3, everything moves quickly as the story moves forward. All of the related storylines spin out of events in the Amazing Spider-Man issues. Give these books a read and see if you disagree with our assessments: Amazing Spider-Man #9-#11 Spider-Man 2099 #6 Scarlet Spiders #1 Spider-Verse Team-Up #2 Spider-Woman #1 & #2 We have our Pick 3 choices for books coming out next week at your local comic book shops. Can John and Cullen guess Jerry's pick for next week? Listen in and find out. We wrap things up with an interview with artist Scott Koblish, who will be at the Hero Initiative table at Wizard World Portland with Cullen this weekend. Scott's worked with so many great artists over the years, but you owe it to yourself to check out his own book, The Many Deaths of Scott Koblish, in which he dies a lot. Like on every page. Bring on the Offenders! We have our Pick 3 choices for books coming out next week at your local comic book shops. Can Jerry and Cullen guess John's pick for next week? Listen in and find out. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, Cullen and Jerry sit down with legendary comic creator Karl Kesel to discuss his book Section Zero. But wait... There is no Section Zero! Karl and artist Tom Grummett first launched Section Zero on an imprint label with Image Comics. The project was put on hold due to other commitments by the creators, until finally it was brought back out last year with a very successful Kickstarter campaign. Section Zero reads like a love letter to Jack Kirby, reminiscent of the comics filled with adventure and action. A government team tracks down the unusual, from UFOs and dinosaurs to aliens and monsters. You know you want to read this, right? Well, good news for you then, as Image Comics will be releasing (or is that re-releasing?) Section Zero beginning in April. Be sure to tell your local comic shop to hold a copy or two for you! We have our Pick 3 choices for books coming out next week at your local comic book shops. John phoned in his pick for the week, and Cullen struggled to guess Jerry's pick despite a lot of clues. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We discuss the retirement announcement from legendary creator George Pérez. Due to his ongoing health issues, George announced over the weekend that he will be stepping away from future comic work. All three of us have grown up reading his comics, and we all have had the pleasure of meeting him in person multiple times. We share our thoughts on his career, our favorite runs, and even our favorite covers done by Pérez. We have our Pick 3 choices for books coming out next week at your local comic book shops. It doesn't happen often, but we did not pick a single book from Marvel or DC. Instead, we have picks from Dark Horse, IDW and Image Comics. Can you guess our picks? We finish things up with a look ahead at the solicits for books coming out in March. It's not too late to let your local shop know what you want to pick up. We give you our highlights of books we want to read this spring. Remember you can find Cullen at the Hero Initiative table at Wizard World Portland, which runs February 22-24, 2019. Agent Carter The Iron Curtain [3:51] The hosts find themselves on the backside of the Agent Carter special event as things heat up for Agent Carter and we learn to do as Peggy says. As usual Marvel does it best to successfully creep us out by showing us The Red Room and just why Dottie is as fundamentally crazy as she is. For those of us not making the connection at home Marvel pulls back the veiling curtain and tells us flat out that Leviathan is a secret Russian shadow organization. Marvel also tries to make us like Thompson but the hosts just can't totally get there from Thompson still being...well Thompson. And the hosts wonder why Sousa is sitting on his profound discovery and we aren't talking about what he discovered in the SSR changing room either. Plus maybe Chief Dooley isn't that bad of a guy either since he wants what we want - the truth.
