In this powerful episode of Reading With Your Kids, Jed welcomes two picture book creators whose work helps families navigate some of life's hardest—and most beautiful—truths. First, Shannon Gibney joins from Minnesota to talk about her picture book "Where Is My Sister?", inspired by the stillbirth of her daughter. Shannon shares the shattering experience of losing a baby late in pregnancy and the long emotional healing that followed. As a writer, she went searching for honest, non‑sugar‑coated books about infant loss and found almost nothing, especially for families who aren't all of one faith tradition. That gap led her to co‑edit a collection of memoirs by women of color and Native women about infant loss and miscarriage, and eventually to write Where Is My Sister?—told from the perspective of a young girl whose baby sister dies before coming home. Shannon and Jed discuss our culture's discomfort with grief, how adults can be present for children without trying to "fix" the pain, and why including differing beliefs about death within one family matters. Then Nazneen Akbari joins from Delhi to introduce her debut picture book "Home Away From Home." The story follows an American Omani girl visiting her grandmother and feeling out of place—until a walk through a historic Omani market helps her see that this culture, too, is part of who she is. Drawing on her own life across India, Oman, Dubai, and the U.S., Nazneen talks about identity, the "Where are you from?" question, and why we need joyful, authentic stories from the Middle East to counter stereotypes and remind kids that we all belong to one human family.

We are captivated by all different kinds of stories, war stories, love stories, funny stories, and even tragic stories. It is part of our being created in the image of God, the preeminant story teller. Human history is the telling of His story. It is the greatest of all stories. It is a redemptive story about God setting us free by drawing us to Himself. The ancient Exodus account is part of that story, and it has all the elements of a good story, interesting characters, conflict, plot twists, and redemption. It is about God raising up Moses and freeing the Israelites back then, and it's about God sending Jesus to free us today. We will find our place in God's story."

“The Name on the Bottom of My Foot”     Do you feel like you belong? That's the question I want to start with today. Because if you're an amputee, or walking alongside someone who is, you've probably felt that quiet, unsettling shift… that moment where life no longer feels like it fits the way it used to. Welcome back to BAWarrior Podcast, a space for resilience, healing, and living life amplified exactly as you are. I'm your host, Angie Heuser, and I'm walking this journey right alongside you as an above-knee amputee. This past week, I did something playful… but it turned into something deeply meaningful. I was outside, barefoot in the Arizona warmth, and I had my prosthetic off because I was using my running blade. And for whatever reason, I grabbed a marker and wrote the name “Andy” on the bottom of my prosthetic foot. If you're a Toy Story fan, you already know the reference. Andy writes his name on the bottom of Woody's boot, and later Buzz's foot, as a symbol of belonging. It means those toys have a place. They matter. They are part of something bigger.     And as soon as I wrote it… it hit me. Isn't that exactly what we're all searching for after limb loss? Because here's the truth, amputation doesn't just change your body. It changes your identity. It changes how you see yourself, how you move through the world, and how the world sometimes responds to you. For me, seven years ago when I chose to amputate, it felt like I was on a train that suddenly switched tracks without warning. I wasn't going where I thought I would anymore. And the first real question became: Who am I now? Because I didn't feel like I belonged in my old life the same way. Yes, I was still a wife, a mom, an athlete, but I also stood out in ways I never had before. From wearing gym shoes everywhere because of my prosthetic limitations, to navigating how people perceived me, to questioning where I fit socially… it shook my confidence and my identity. And what I've learned through talking to so many amputees is this: The surgery isn't the hardest part. Learning to walk again isn't even the hardest part. The hardest part… is figuring out where you belong now. That's the piece no one really prepares you for. And that's where this idea of Andy's name became so powerful to me.     Because in Toy Story, those toys aren't afraid of being broken, they're afraid of being forgotten. Of not having a place. Of not belonging anymore. And isn't that what we feel sometimes too? But here's the shift. Here's where the warrior mindset comes in. Instead of asking, “Why did this happen to me?” I started asking, “What can I do with this?” That mindset changed everything. I began to see this journey not as an ending, but as a reinvention. I set goals. I pushed myself. I proved, to myself first, that I was still capable of living a full, meaningful life. And in that process, something bigger started to unfold. This podcast was born. Then the women's amputee chat group. Then stepping into research, working with incredible teams at MIT and Harvard, participating in studies, surgeries, and innovations to help move our community forward.   My Community, My friends who always have my back!   I found purpose. And I realized something important: Belonging doesn't come from going back to who you were. It comes from building who you are now. Our adversity creates our strength. Our identity evolves. Our scars tell our stories. And our community creates our belonging. That's why community matters so deeply. Because sometimes, you won't find belonging in the same places you used to. And that's okay. We outgrow spaces. People come and go. Life shifts. But there is a place for you. Your new “toy box,” if you will. A place where people understand you. Support you. See you, not in spite of your journey, but because of it. That's why I created the women's chats. Because I saw how many women were struggling with identity, friendships, relationships, confidence… all of it. And they needed a space where they could just be real. Because you don't have to do this alone.     So here's what I want you to do this week, your call to action. I want you to mark yourself. Not necessarily with a tattoo—but with something meaningful. A word. A symbol. Your name. A reminder. Put it somewhere you'll see it every day—your mirror, your prosthetic, your journal, your car. Something that tells you: I belong. I have purpose. I matter. For me, it was “Andy.” It made me smile. It brought me back to special, warm memories with my kids. It gave me a sense of lightness and meaning all at once. But yours can be whatever speaks to you. Because on the hard days, and they will come, you need something to ground you. Something to remind you that even though life looks different… You are still part of this story. You are not forgotten. You are not alone. You are not without purpose. You are evolving. You are growing. You are becoming. So find your new community. Find your purpose. And most importantly… Mark yourself in a way that reminds you—you still belong. You are warriors. You are strong. And I am so proud of how far you've come—and where you're going. Until next time… Be healthy, Be happy, Be YOU!!! Much Love,

Michael shares notable meals from a new food-focused project with Amanda Gibson featuring Indianapolis restaurants Macizo and Wisanggeni Pawon, emphasizing owner stories and kitchen access, while Chris highlights a Greenfield coffee shop, Hitherto, filled with board games and game nights. They discuss why third spaces matter amid isolation, COVID-era habits, and phone-driven convenience, and how car-centric infrastructure, zoning, and suburban design discourage spontaneous community compared with pub culture and transit-rich cities. Michael describes merchandise plans (locally made mugs) intended to get people into local businesses, recalls Pizzeria Ruby in northwest Arkansas as a personal third space, and cites Flanner House's Flanner Farms and Cleo's Bodega addressing food access. Scripture shows us that God works through offices, functions, and gifts. Some are recognised roles within the local church. Some are ministries Christ gives to equip His people. And some are spiritual gifts given by the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit for the good of the whole body.It is important that Christians understand their calling. Not everyone is called to lead. Not everyone is called to govern. But everyone is called to participate. When believers don't understand this, the church either becomes passive or confused. People either sit back waiting to be used, or they step into roles God never called them to carry. Both lead to frustration and harm.#theologyschool #brendonnaicker #calling

Jarek Berga - December 28th 2025 Grace is a fire already burning—your role is not to earn it, but to draw near. On the final Sunday of 2025, Jarek pauses our journey through Matthew to bring a timely word from Romans 4, helping us understand how anyone—respectable or suspicious—finds their place in God's family. Using the image of a beach bonfire, Jarek shows how God's grace is not something we start or sustain, but something we are invited to step toward. The warmth, visibility, and transformation all depend on proximity—not performance. Walking through the lives of Abraham and David, this message reveals three gospel realities: God's desire is to welcome the ungodly, God's design is faith rather than self-reliance, and the Father's delight is a family that makes room for one another. Abraham trusted a promise he could not see. David stopped hiding and told the truth. Both discovered that righteousness is credited as a gift, not a wage. This sermon challenges both the openly broken and the quietly respectable to drop their coverings—achievement, morality, image management—and step into the light of grace. As God welcomes us freely, we are called to welcome others the same way, scooting closer to the fire and making space at the table. The gospel is not about earning a seat, but receiving one—and then inviting others to join us in the warmth of God's love. 2025 is quickly coming to a close and what an honor it was to sit down for an intimate conversation with Carl Broemel in his hometown of Nashville for the 300th episode of Roadcase!!  Carl is best known for his work in My Morning Jacket, and has released a series of notable solo projects over the past several decades. His upcoming album, Celestun, set for release on January 15, marks a continuation of his work with longtime collaborator Tyler Ramsey, formerly of Band of Horses.  In this landmark year, My Morning Jacket released both a new album, “IS,” and celebrated the 20th anniversary of the album “Z” in a year-long celebration of spectacular live performances.Carl talked to me about how he sees the current state of the band, and he discusses with me exactly how he goes about continuing to feel refreshed and energized in this ever-changing musical landscape. Carl shares with me many of his “life hacks,” as we discuss the importance of being in the moment, and the unstoppable force of incremental growth in pushing forward towards one's life goals, whatever they may be.=======================================Episode Chapters:00:00 Episode Intro with Host Josh Rosenberg04:05 Reflecting on a Year of Music and Growth06:59 The Spiritual Connection in Music09:59 The Creative Process Behind 'Is' and 'Z'12:49 The Live Performance Experience15:47 Navigating the Challenges of Touring18:49 The Influence of Family and Background21:54 The Journey of Self-Discovery in Music24:45 The Importance of Incremental Growth27:31 Finding Balance in a Chaotic World30:43 The Joy of Collaboration and Connection33:33 Exploring New Horizons in Music and Life54:25 Resonating with the Crowd58:09 The Power of Community and Incremental Growth59:21 Navigating Stardom and Popularity01:04:17 The Challenges of Modern Music Promotion01:04:30 Maintaining Humility in Success01:10:04 The Emotional Connection to Music01:13:08 The Journey of Finding Your Place in Music01:20:39 Exploring the Dynamics of Band Relationships01:22:38 The Solo Experience and Personal Growth01:25:21 Stripping Down to Basics in Music01:31:04 Reflections on Spirituality and Music01:18:33 The Solo Experience and Personal Growth01:21:16 Stripping Down to Basics in Music01:26:59 Reflections on Spirituality and Music01:38:34 Episode Outro with Host Josh Rosenberg=======================================For Carl Broemel and Tyler Ramsey tour dates, click hereWe discussed the book Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman: Click hereFor more information on Roadcase:https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comOr contact Roadcase by email:  info@roadcasepod.comRoadcase theme music:  "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer

The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 24, 2025 6:55

Today, we're diving into a topic that countless believers wrestle with quietly — the feeling of standing in a room full of Christians and still wondering, “Where do I fit in the Body of Christ?”You can love Jesus deeply…You can read your Bible…You can worship with passion…And still feel unsure about where you belong.I've been there. There were Sundays when I smiled, shook hands, held the door, served wherever I could — and yet inside, I felt like a man wandering the edges of the campfire, unsure if there was actually a seat with my name on it.But here's the truth God whispered to me in a season when I felt the most spiritually displaced:“Son, you don't find your place by earning it. You find it by listening to Me.”And that whisper reshaped everything.OUR SPRINGBOARD FOR TODAY'S DISCUSSION IS:1 Corinthians 12:18 (ESV)“But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as He chose.”The Church isn't spiritual musical chairs. You don't get lucky.Nobody ends up where they are by accident.Paul says God arranged each person — intentionally, deliberately, lovingly. That means three things:* Your place is not random.* Your place is not fragile.* Your place is not optional. When a believer wanders through life unsure of where they belong, the enemy rushes in to fill the silence with lies:* “You don't matter here.”* “Everyone else has purpose except you.”* “God uses other people better than you.”But Scripture cuts through all that fog:God chose the place you were built to stand. You don't have to compete for it.You don't have to compare yourself into it.You don't have to convince anyone to give it to you.God Himself arranged you. There was a season in my life when I felt like I had disqualified myself from God's family table. Not because God pushed me away — but because I pushed people away with my words, my pride, and my reactions.I had moments when I looked around at church and thought,“Everyone else has this figured out. I'm the odd one out.”And in one of my lowest moments, when everything felt strained — my marriage, my walk with God, my own identity — God spoke a whisper that stopped me cold:“Stop. Slow your roll. Don't let Satan get a foothold.”That whisper wasn't condemnation. It was rescue. It was the Father saying,“You still belong to Me. I'm not done arranging your life.”And you know what else God used?Michelle. Her steady, faithful presence. Her ability to serve without needing a spotlight. Her commitment to the church even while managing chronic pain, exhaustion, and the weight she carried for our family.Watching her taught me something powerful:Sometimes your place in the Body is discovered through humility, not ambition.Michelle never tried to be someone else. She didn't compete with anyone. She simply served — and God magnified her faithfulness. And through watching her, God reminded me:“Matthew, your place isn't found by pushing harder. It's found by coming closer.”LIVING APPLICATIONIf you want to find your place in the Body:* Start where your feet are.Serve somewhere. Anywhere. Movement reveals mission.* Stop comparing your calling.Someone else's gift isn't a threat. It's reinforcement.* Ask God directly: “Where do You want me?”And wait. He will whisper.* Let humility guide you. Many people miss their place because they look too high instead of too near.* Trust that you were arranged, not abandoned.Your place is secure.DAILY ACTIONAsk the Holy Spirit one simple question today:“Show me where You've placed me.”Write down whatever He brings to your heart.PRACTICEActively serve in one small, tangible way this week — even if it feels insignificant. You'd be surprised what God reveals while your hands are moving.CHALLENGE OF THE WEEKEvery time you feel like you don't belong, declare out loud:“God arranged me.”PRAYERFather, thank You for arranging my life with purpose and precision.Silence every lie that tells me I don't matter.Heal every wound that makes me doubt my value.Reveal the place You've prepared for me, and give me courage to step into it.Use me in Your Body exactly how You designed. In Jesus' name — amen.Let's Get To Work. Thanks for reading My Reasons To Believe! TODAY'S LESSONLet me tell you something bold: the Church is not a building you go to. It's not Sunday service, a worship playlist, or a pulpit. The Church is a living, breathing organism—the Body of Christ. And here's the kicker: if you belong to Jesus, you're part of it.Paul doesn't leave room for debate. He says, “You are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” That means God hardwired you with a purpose. You are not filler. You are not an extra in the background of someone else's story. You are a vital piece of God's Kingdom puzzle. But here's the tragedy: too many believers live like spectators. They consume church instead of being the Church. They sit in pews but never step into purpose. And when you check out, when you withhold the gifts God placed inside you, the whole Body suffers. It's like trying to run a marathon with one leg asleep—it doesn't work. This is spiritual war, and God never drafts benchwarmers. You have a role. Your gifts, your experiences, even your scars—they're weapons in God's hand for the good of His people and the advance of His Kingdom.Don't believe the lie that you're not needed. That's the enemy talking. The truth is: the Church can't be whole without you.

Maps, Mountain Lions, and the Larger Story Season Five kicks off with Michael Thompson and SJ Jennings reflecting on where the journey has taken them—and where it's going next. Surrounded by memorabilia, laughter, and memories, they introduce the guiding theme for this new season: understanding the larger story through the lens of maps, spiritual reality, and the battle between light and darkness. From tales of mountain lions in Montana to metaphors pulled from The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, this episode invites listeners to reframe how they see their lives—not as random or isolated, but as part of a greater narrative shaped by love, war, and redemption. Michael and SJ emphasize the centrality of the heart in that story, the importance of spiritual awareness, and the need to know where you are and where you're headed. This season, the podcast will explore Zoweh's Map of the Larger Story, offering listeners tools, truth, and orientation to help them navigate life in both the physical and spiritual realms. We hope you enjoy this episode and invite you to connect with us!

Gospel Daily with Josh Weidmann Never Alone: Finding Your Place in God's Family, Part 2Series: Unveiled Scripture: Mark 3:13-35 Episode: 1419 Scripture Summary:  In Mark 3:13-35, Jesus appoints the twelve apostles, choosing them to preach, cast out demons, and be with Him. As His ministry grows, so does opposition. Some accuse Him of being possessed by Beelzebul, claiming He casts out demons by satanic power. Jesus refutes them with a parable about a kingdom divided, warning against blaspheming the Holy Spirit, which He says is an unforgivable sin. Meanwhile, His family tries to restrain Him, thinking He's lost His mind. When told His mother and brothers are outside, Jesus declares that those who do God's will are His true family. Key themes include spiritual authority, the unforgivable sin, and the redefinition of family through obedience to God.

Hey team! Our guest today is Dr. Otito Iwuchukwu, who is here to talk about the emotional and psychological aspects of belonging and how it impacts our day-to-day lives. Dr. Iwuchukwu has a Master of Arts in Organizational Psychology from the College of Psychology and Counseling, a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with a specialization in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, from Temple University, and is currently an Associate Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Her scholarly contributions appear in a range of peer-reviewed and indexed publications and have been presented at numerous research meetings and symposia across the world. Additionally, Dr. Iwuchukwu has recently written The Belonging Paradox, a book that presents a new way to understand belonging as an adaptive journey rather than a static destination. In this episode, we talk about why belonging is a dynamic, ongoing process, not a fixed state, and how we can create more inclusive environments for ourselves and others. We'll also discuss how masking impacts our sense of belonging, the role boundaries play in maintaining our authenticity, and the importance of giving ourselves and others grace. If you've ever struggled with finding your place, especially in social settings or work environments, you'll find practical tools in this conversation for navigating those tough moments. Belonging isn't a fixed state, but an ongoing process that changes with both your internal state and the external environment. Recognizing this can help you manage expectations and frustrations when your sense of belonging fluctuates. 2. Recognize that you don't have to belong to every group, and not all groups are meant for a deep, personal connection. Don't force yourself to belong in every situation; if a group or environment doesn't feel right, it's okay to step back. 3. You don't have to be liked by everyone. Instead, it's important for us to focus on finding spaces where we can truly belong. It's about finding authentic connections, not chasing superficial acceptance.
