Let's dive into two of my favorite things that taste great together... trans allegories, and Star Trek! Season two, episode two of Strange New Worlds, "Ad Astra Per Aspera," rocked my world. Because it shouted with its whole chest TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS. So let's get you the context you need if you've never watched a Star Trek, and dive into our main discussion! Critic and journalist Maureen Ryan joins us to discuss confident humility, and how as far as you know there's only one of her! Nico & TK are back – and they're looking ahead to a summer full of big comics, new stories, and of course, swimsuit specials. The X-Men transition to a new period while the Marvel Universe ramps down One World Under Doom; a number of special titles reflecting the face of the MCU continue (New Thunderbolts*), while titles come to their end (Immortal Thor). Over at DC, the Absolute line continues, and the solo titles climb into the 2-year point; while Gotham City Sirens gets another weekly title by Leah Williams. Lots to talk about, all this and more – on an all new X Is For Podcast! X IS FOR SHOW is a talk show for your favorite media, the same way THE OFFICE was a documentary about a paper company. Here's what you need to know for today in the business of podcasting: On Air Fest grows ever-larger for 2025, James Cridland examines TuneIn's layoffs and cost-cutting, the IAB collects examples of best practices in podcasting, AdExchanger talks tired trends of 2024 advertising, and principal-based media buying is growing more popular. Here's something different: a podcast *campaign* to keep people home for the holidays! So many people are one crisis away from becoming unhoused, like Keoni Washington, a young boxer who lost his mom to COVID and had to provide for his brothers. The podcast Sharing Stories gives a window into their lives and how one-time rental assistance helped them through a tough stretch. They're encouraging other podcasts (like yours!) to spread the word about rental assistance this season -- like by running a “PSA” in place of an ad. Jace and Rocky breakdown the October solicitations from DC Comics. With the release of these not only has DC confirmed the rumored creative teams for the new Absolute Universe, they have also revealed the new creative teams for many titles in the main line. Several titles will have the same creative teams returning and with few exceptions these seem to be the titles that are selling the best. With these announcements it is clear that DC is, indeed, ALL IN on trying to revitalize a line that has been relatively well received critically over recent years, but as lagged in sales. It remains to be seen whether the excitement of this initiative can bring back lapsed readers, and more importantly, attract new fans. The recent All In announcement on YouTube from Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson appears to have meet with mostly a positive reaction. More details about what's to come starting in October will be revealed at the rapidly approaching San Deigo Comic Con.
