Having that first response from the server to users browsers be, ya know, full of good, useful, renderable HTML is certainly better than an empty . You can feel it and see it in the filmstrip view of the site loading. Not to mention you need it for at least things like tags if you want your URLs to "unfurl" properly on social sites. Stephen and Chris jump on the podcast to discuss this journey for us as it relates to Next.js. We got it "for free" for our Ruby on Rails pages, but as we're slowly changing frameworks over the years, we've got new challenges, and some gray-hair inducing bugs. We started on Next.js' "page router" and made changes to our Apollo Cache setup to support SSR. Then, over time, moved to the "app router" and did lots more work getting ready getting the most complex page on our site, the 2.0 editor, completely SSRd. That meant getting rid of using things like localStorage for anything view related and fighting bugs related to React somehow mounting itself to the wrong root. Time Jumps

What does it take to transition from a curious undergraduate to an award-winning Assistant Professor? In this episode, host Dr. Pam Monahan (Northwestern University) sits down with Dr. Camilla Hughes, Assistant Professor of Reproductive Biology at Penn State and the 2025 recipient of the Janice Bahr Junior Scientist Travel Award.Dr. Hughes dives into the "through-line" of her research: the fascinating and often under-explored relationship between immune cells and the ovary. From the prenatal establishment of the ovarian reserve in cattle to the complex signaling that regulates the corpus luteum, Dr. Hughes explains why understanding the immune system is key to unlocking new insights in reproductive physiology.Beyond the bench, we discuss the power of the SSR community. Dr. Hughes shares the profound impact of the late Dr. Janice Bahr's legacy, her experiences in the world-renowned Frontiers in Reproduction (FIR) course, and practical advice for junior scientists on how to "be a sponge" at scientific meetings. In this episode, you'll hear about:The Janice Bahr Legacy: The importance of supporting junior faculty and the impact of long-term mentorship within the SSR.Ovarian Physiology: A deep dive into bovine and ovine models, prenatal development, and the role of immune resident cells. The "Frustration" of Learning: Why the most difficult moments in the lab often lead to the most significant scientific breakthroughs.Conference Networking 101: Concrete tips for trainees on how to navigate large meetings, find collaborators, and move past "imposter syndrome."About the Guest:Dr. Camilla Hughes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Penn State University.

We dug into what actually happens when you run Node at scale, especially with server-side rendering, Kubernetes, and modern frameworks like Next.js.We also challenged some popular assumptions—like whether newer runtimes automatically mean better performance—and explored how benchmarking, flame graphs, and smarter scheduling can completely change the reliability of production systems. Now users can ask Gemini to explain console errors, make CSS changes via in the elements tab, and explain traces collected in the performance panel.HTMX has also jumped from v2 to v4 (alpha), rebuilding the internals after 5 years of maintaining the project. Upgrades include: going from XMLHttpRequests to fetch, explicit attribute inheritance, and improved history caching.Angular's meta-framework AnalogJS also just launched 2.0 which offers file-based routing, better Vite ecosystem support, and unified SSR, SSG, and islands-style hydration in one cohesive setup.Rumor has it that next year Apple will be using Gemini to drive Siri, as it continues to try and get Apple Intelligence to work reliably.GitHub has officially disabled classic token creation for npm publishing in an effort to reign in the supply chain attacks we've reported on for the last few months. And last but not least, a company called NEO has a home assistant robot available for preorder now. The robot can clean, fold laundry, do dishes, and so on, but here's the kicker: it's a human piloting it remotely. Ads exist but are effectively a decoy; there isn't even a “remove ads” pack. UA is ~98% Google (YouTube + AdWords) with AI/UGC and “fake gameplay” motifs.Systems & sinks (what actually drives playtime/spend)• Two gachas: character (spirits) and skill, with very low SSR rates; also ad-summon entries (“2 free summons for an ad”).• “Online chest”: ~5x/day random gacha ticks, granted every ~5 minutes online.• 3–4 battle passes active during launch window; heavy event stack and daily quests.• Notification-baiting tactic: tiny “free” rewards (e.g., 5 soft-currency) inside every shop/offer to create badge-clearing behavior and force shop opens.Monetization architecture (how money happens)• Ads are a decoy to lift IAP; no VIP/no-ads pack to sell the removal.• Primary pay drivers: gachas + step offers (offer ladders surfaced early/often).• Panel consensus: at ~$100K/day IAP scale, there's little incentive to optimize ads.UA mix & creatives (why it scales on Google)• ~98% of impressions from YouTube + AdWords; almost nothing elsewhere.• Creative pillars: AI faces/VO, UGC narratives, meme remakes, Genshin/Diablo-style “fake gameplay.”• Uses creator placements (e.g., known Supercell YouTubers featured as ad talent).Servers & competitive pressure (why shard)• Thousands of small shards opened continuously; servers “die,” then merge, resetting the race.• Keep leaderboards small so winning feels plausible; too many whales per shard depresses motivation.Get our MERCH NOW: 25gamers.com/shop--------------------------------------PVX Partners offers non-dilutive funding for game developers.Go to: https://pvxpartners.com/They can help you access the most effective form of growth capital once you have the metrics to back it.- Scale fast- Keep your shares- Drawdown only as needed- Have PvX take downside risk alongside you+ Work with a team entirely made up of ex-gaming operators and investorsFor an ever-growing number of game developers, this means that now is the perfect time to invest in monetizing direct-to-consumer at scale. Our sponsor FastSpring:Has delivered D2C at scale for over 20 yearsThey power top mobile publishers around the worldLaunch a new webstore, replace an existing D2C vendor, or add a redundant D2C vendor at fastspring.gg.With Playablemaker, you can finally create playable and interactive adsNO-CODE + ON-BUDGET + LIGHTNING FASThttps://playablemaker.com/25gamersThis is no BS gaming podcast 2.5 gamers session. Born in August 1992 in Ankara, Türkiye, Tuva Atasever attended the Bilkent University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.  After completing his undergraduate studies in 2014, Atasever moved to the United States and received a master's degree in photonics from the University of California, Irvine. In addition, in 2018 Atasever completed the Space Studies Program (SSP) organized by Delft University of Technology, European Space Research and Technology Centre, and International Space University (ISU).After receiving his Master's degree in 2016, Atasever co-founded and acted as the CEO of Blue Dot VR where he worked on creating compelling experiences in virtual reality to induce pro-social, pro-environmental, and empathetic behaviors in users. In 2017,Atasever co-founded another startup called HyperSight, Inc., which focused on augmented reality. After working on those ventures and gaining life-changing experiences, Atasever started working for ROKETSAN, Inc as an avionics systems engineer responsible from the avionic subsystems in the Micro Satellite Launch Vehicle (MSLV) and Space Sounding Rocket (SSR) development projects. As the payload integration manager for SSR, Atasever's latest responsibility at ROKETSAN included selecting scientific and commercial payloads that were going to be launched on the SSR, creating technical requirements for those payloads, and successfully integrating them on the launch vehicle following the design verification process. In May of 2022, Atasever enthusiastically applied for the first-ever astronaut selection campaign of the Turkish Space Agency (TUA). After passing all the phases successfully, he was selected as one of the first two astronauts of Türkiye.Atasever enjoys swimming, outdoor running, camping, and backpacking, previously journeying across several national parks in Northern and Southern California and along the Mediterranean coast.Atasever is honored and excited for the opportunity to be a part of the historic Ax-3 mission as the backup mission specialist, and looks forward to advancing Türkiye's human spaceflight program in close cooperation with international partners to improve people's lives here on Earth.

See You Tomorrow at the Food Court follows two high school girls, who look like total opposites, meet up everyday after class at the mall food court on their way home to just talk about life while they eat whatever catches their eyes. Wada is seen as a quiet, perfect honor student but in reality she's actually a gacha game diehard with zero chill when it comes to her favorite SSR. Yamamoto has the look of a flashy gyaru type but in reality she's thoughtful, grounded, and way more studious than people think. Every episode drops into a handful of mini-stories about whatever chaos Wada brings that day, while Yamamoto keeps her friend tethered. This week is another solo episode with Jack but Rick did send him some notes and his score. It was also a recommendation from Major Montana. The show in general for Jack was solid and was easy to watch in the sense that it was easy to get through. It was not a heavy show but rather it was something that literally took you in the day in the life of 2 friends who meet up everyday. This is not something that you closely have to watch or pay attention to but it does help as there is a little bit of a narrative for it but it also is not hard to just pick up at any point in time for it. Honestly if you are looking for something that is an easy watch that is not heavy and is a cute show that has some shenanigans in it then this is for you but if you are looking for something deeper with character development then this is not for you.Next Week's Pick: "Lycoris Recoil"Have you had the chance to watch See You Tomorrow at the Food Court or any of our previous selections? Vue developer Alex Riviere joins Amy to explore the fundamental differences between Vue and React, diving deep into Vue's unique approach to reactivity, templating, and developer experience. From the magic of V-Model eliminating controlled/uncontrolled input complexity to Vue's proxy-based reactivity system that "just works," Alex explains why Vue's mental model clicked for him coming from jQuery. The conversation covers Vue 3's Composition API and Script Setup syntax, the evolution from VueX to Pinia for state management, and exciting developments like Vue Vapor Mode that will eliminate the virtual DOM entirely. Alex also breaks down Evan You's recent $4.6M VoidZero funding to revolutionize JavaScript build tooling, the flexibility of Nuxt as a meta-framework, and why Vue remains approachable enough to sprinkle into any project without complex build steps. Show Notes00:00 - Intro01:10 - How Alex Got Started with Vue03:00 - Vue vs React Mental Models08:00 - Vue's Approach to Forms and V-Model10:20 - Vue Frameworks: Nuxt and the Ecosystem17:00 - Vue 2 to Vue 3 Migration Challenges19:00 - Nuxt as a Dev Dependency vs Runtime22:30 - When Do You Need a Framework with Vue?25:30 - Laravel Integration and Alpine.js Connection27:40 - Vue's Reactivity System and Proxies29:40 - State Management: VueX to Pinia Evolution32:20 - SSR and Server Components in Vue34:10 - Hosting and Deployment Options35:40 - Evan You's VoidZero Funding and Vision43:10 - Vue Vapor Mode: Eliminating Virtual DOM47:40 - Getting Started with Vue Resources48:40 - Picks and Plugs Links and ResourcesPeople MentionedAlex Riviere - @alexriviereEvan You - Vue.js creator - @youyuxiBen Hong - Vue core team member - @bencodezenDaniel Roe - Nuxt team - @danielcroeTaylor Otwell - Laravel creator - @taylorotwellVue.js ResourcesVue.js Official Site - vuejs.orgVue.js Documentation - vuejs.org/guideVue School - vueschool.ioVue Mastery - vuemastery.comFrameworks & Tools MentionedNuxt - nuxt.comVite - vitejs.devAstro - astro.buildPinia (Vue state management) - pinia.vuejs.orgVueX (legacy state management) - vuex.vuejs.orgAlpine.js - alpinejs.devLaravel - laravel.comLivewire - livewire.laravel.comSolid.js - solidjs.comReact - react.devSvelte - svelte.devBuild Tools & InfrastructureESBuild - esbuild.github.ioRollup - rollupjs.orgNitroPack - nitro.unjs.ioWebpack - webpack.js.orgVoidZero (Evan You's new company) - voidzero.devHosting PlatformsNetlify - netlify.comVercel - vercel.comCloudflare - cloudflare.comReact Ecosystem (for comparison)Next.js - nextjs.orgRemix - remix.runRedwoodJS - redwoodjs.comGatsby - gatsbyjs.comPodcasts & ContentDeja Vue Podcast - dejavue.fm (mentioned Evan You VoidZero interview)Vue.js Conferences - VueConf eventsTechnical Concepts to ResearchVue Composition API - vuejs.org/guide/extras/composition-api-faq.htmlVue Script Setup - vuejs.org/api/sfc-script-setup.htmlVue Directives - vuejs.org/guide/essentials/template-syntax.html#directivesVue Reactivity - vuejs.org/guide/extras/reactivity-in-depth.htmlVue Vapor Mode (experimental) - github.com/vuejs/core-vaporJavaScript Proxies - MDN Proxy DocumentationSignals (reactive programming) - General concept in modern frameworksPicks & PlugsDropout TV - Nobody Asked - dropout.tvCodeMash Conference - codemash.orgWhoosh Screen Cleaner - https://amzn.to/4nBR5UtAdditional Helpful ResourcesVue 2 to Vue 3 Migration Guide - v3-migration.vuejs.orgVue vs React Comparison - vuejs.org/guide/extras/composition-api-faq.html#comparison-with-react-hooksIslands Architecture - jasonformat.com/islands-architecture
