write…write…right! (Tribute to Run by OneRepublic) Original written by: Brent Kutzle, John Nathaniel, Ryan Tedder, & Tyler Spry Lyrics: Write, write, write, Write, write, write, Write, right! And read, read, read Read, read, read, Read, read Back as a small kid Learning to get witty Mom and Dad taught me to write write, write, write, right! Caring about the greats Their books too funny Plugged in And Mom called me Hun, Hun, Hun, Hun, Hun She told me the world out there's tough So make your art bold Listen for the pitter patter of footsteps They're foretold Carve out fairy tales Cause you're in one Girl, you need to write, write, write, write, right! So write, write, right! Write, write, write, Write, write, write, Write, right! And read, read, read Read, read, read, Read, read As I was a young kid Uniformed at the ready With books in all my bag bag, bag, bag, bags Never was a time that God didn't show me To trust in Him for everything Breaking my chains Planting love, seeds sown When I get stuck Masterpieces unfold Leave that writer's block in the dust So I'll write, write, write, write, right! Yeah For creepy, seek out Edgar Allan Poe For life lessons, Jordan Peterson's got more than t-shirts in the mall I'll scribble until I can't hold a pen Charles Dickens style Did you get my message? Norm & Ayoade's comedy classics will keep you young So read, read, read And write, write, write, Write, write, write, write, right! Read, read, read Read, read, read Read, read Glad I'm not wearing Crane's Red Badge of Courage Jesus, through the Bible, still planting seeds, so many Jeffery Deaver and Linwood Barclay's stories keep twisting Plus magical frights with Stephen King Feeling Bradbury's vibes And Alex Himaya's soul Create a new story One that's never been told With Vonnegut, an asterisk means you're done So write, write, write, write, right! Can't get enough of Chris Sims and Benito Cereno! Adore Alicia Erian's Brutal Language of Love Scribble until I can't hold a pen Reading Mary Gaitskill Did you get my message? We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ hello there welcome along to a writer's life my name is Peter and coming up this time how to make your story flow there are many elements that writers need to consider when crafting a story we often focus on plot characterization and creating believable vivid words however another point to consider is the flow of the story good stories have a certain rhythm they have peaks and troughs and they ever and flow like a river running to meet the sea stories should flow so that they move seamlessly from one part to the next during the reader in deeper and deeper as they do so they should have a movement that carries the reader along taking them on an adventure right to the very end however well you think you have got your story down the smooth flow isn't a given writers can easily disrupt the flow of their stories without meaning to this can disturb the reader rudely interrupting them and making it hard for them to jump back in so what are these obstacles that get in the way of the flow of the story and how can writers avoidable first bad or stilted of writing the main issue is the hardest one to solve and that's bad writing it's going to be almost impossible for readers to feel as though they are being carried along by the story if the writing is so bad that it's distracting this can be just the way sentences are put together the writer continually interrupting using too many cliches or spelling and grammatical mistakes and next confusing writing another challenge is making sure that your writing doesn't confuse the reader it's easy for authors because they know their characters and story so well to write it in a way that don't make sense to them can confuse the reader and leave them feeling lost in the story not sure of which way to say next repetition of ideas or information if you continuously repeat ideas or information this will jar the reader and interrupt the flow of the story trust your reader and don't feel it necessary to repeat things over and over doing so will make it seem as though you've run out of things to say and make the writing and the story much weaker and next the ordering of events and time when writing a good story the order of dates and time should be precise while it's okay to play with time and the order of events you need to be entirely sure that doing so won't confuse your reader if readers can't figure out the sequence of events or have to turn back to passages they have already read to try and decipher what is happening above when it will make it challenging for them to immerse themselves in your story the next inconsistencies inconsistencies are also distracting to the reader and we're making difficult for them to stay focused on the plot if your reader is wearing glasses in one scene and then you talk about that 20/20 vision you know this won't sit right with the reader and can break them out of that beautiful world you've just created so what can you do to ensure your story flows well keep your reader in mind read your work aloud cut any redundant passages or words be eagle eye for inconsistencies grammar and spelling errors paying attention to the flow of motion of your stories is essential use these tips to make sure your writing moves forward smoothly and carries your reader effortlessly along with it and don't forget if you're struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused fine times are right and finally get your book published to get access now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit okay that's it for now be sure to give us a thumbs up if you liked this video and as always subscribe to our channel for more I'm Peter and I'll see you next time bye for now

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello its Peter here a game from writerslife.org and coming up today five in-demand ways to make money as a writer digital marketing engagement online advertorials these are just buzzwords that marketers throw around to sound smart they're clear indicators of businesses growing needs in the digital age why am i bringing them up because over the past few years there is a sharp increase in the demands for certain types of content and this demand only continues to grow in this video then we'll explore what these content types are why companies need them and what you can do to land such gaze first of all we'll start with high quality blog posts businesses need blog posts build communities increased traffic and rank higher on Google however with the search giant cracking down on keywords tough posts and content farms businesses have learned that they need well researched high quality content in order to compete and they're willing to pay top dollar for it so how do you land these types of gates asking for referrals or directly approaching prospects are ways to find clients to blog forum to increase your chances of securing again I recommend targeting clients that either have an existing blog or have established some sort of social media presence ie they have a Facebook Twitter or LinkedIn account why because an existing blog or social account is an indication that the company already recognized the value of online marketing chances are you won't have to educate them on why blogging is import they already know that and they probably just don't have the skills all the time to take care of it it's much easier to convert them compared to say a company that doesn't heave even have a blog or Twitter account yet okay next ghostwritten blog posts CEOs and other executives want to establish thought leadership and authority by publishing guest posts on reputable sites the thing is these people may not have to time all rightie skills to do it and that's where you come in you can write blog posts on their behalf and publish them on top industry sites to build up your clients reputation and position them as a leader in their field so how do you land these games executives that hire ghost writers don't usually advertise the facts that they do this so it'll be more effective to approach prospects yourself after your ghost writing services connects with the company founder or CEO directly and offer your ghost writing services if you can't find their email address on the company website connect through LinkedIn what you could do is find a thought leadership piece written by their competitor send them the link I offer to write something similar next long-form web content such as ebooks white papers guides and reports these are meaty pieces their research heavy and usually packed with statistics studies and insights why the demand for long-form web content well companies have realized that educating users and providing valuable content is one of the best ways to reel in synote so leads and use these materials to in sensitized be to complete a call of action such as getting on a list or requesting a demo and how do you land these games reaching out to new prospects may not be the best approach here long-form web content gigs are huge projects so companies won't be inclined to hire someone they haven't worked with before to land these gigs consider up selling your long-form writing skills to existing or previous clients tell them about the benefits of releasing white papers or ebooks and then offer your services company emails newsletters is next the nature and subject matter of company emails and newsletters courage from announcements to staff picks - we miss you type emails generally speaking though the goal of email marketing is to keep in touch and engage with existing customers or subscribers so how do you land these gates the key to convincing clients to hire you is to show them that you understand that their target audience send them sample emails or links to blog posts with compelling headlines an engaging copy that demonstrates how well you connect with people knowledge of email marketing software is another obvious plus so if you have any experience with MailChimp or similar services be sure to brag about it and next web shopping such as home pages and about us pages etc this is pretty straightforward there are more consumers and businesses online than ever before so the demand a compelling web copy is at an all-time high how do you land these gates well aside from seeking referrals inbound marketing try approaching clients and telling them what's wrong with there is the existing website head to a prospect site and look for typos and other areas of improvement email them with your suggestions and offered to take care of their content needs part of being a successful writer is also discipline if you have a novel it can be an interesting challenge try to reconcile your creative side with the business side it's important to stay disciplined and on schedule so that's why you need our free writers toolkit with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and if you haven't done so already finally get your book published to get access now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit ok that's it for now be sure to like this video and subscribe to our channel for more I'm Peter and I'll see you next time bye for now

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello its Peter here again from WritersLife.org and coming up today five tips to create a brilliant novel degrees a brilliant novel you need to tell a brilliant story it really is as simple as that but how I can hear you cry telling a great story comes down to five simple rules if you follow these there is no reason why your story won't be considered fantastic and we are talking about the opinions of prospective publishers and agents not just your grammar so how do you create a brilliant novel one which is fast paced moving and original you need to show a publisher that you have knowledge that you have authority and an understanding of what your audience wants if you can do this successfully you are sure to impress so here are five great tips to help you on your way tip number one make your story a sense sensation your characters need to be believable and engaging your descriptions need to be delightful and imaginative the five senses play a crucial part in involving your audience in your story giving it texture and depth we want to see what they see hear what they hear feel what they feel if you omit this from your story it will fall flat and our next tip is be odd erratic haunting and idiosyncratic to create believable and interesting characters they need to behave a certain way simple straightforward characters who look nice and nice and say nice things are only useful in your story if they are there to create a stark contrast between themselves and other more important characters in your book make your characters irrational give them unusual appearances quirks tics hobbies but do it softly your readers need to understand your character's motivation for behaving in the ways that they do they like weird but they will want to understand why it is easy to emphasize with people's irrational behavior we all act like this from time to time so make sure you allow your characters to do so too otherwise they may well come across as rather dull tip number three be free one of the greatest difficulties writers face is themselves we are obstructive negative and often downright cruel to create a brilliant novel you need to free yourself from yourself allow yourself to explore scary sad mad parts of your own being really getting there go deep and inspect all the ugly things that you don't like to show to anyone else then use them if you are daring in your writing it will be exciting if you are honest with your feelings it can lead to some uncomfortable moments but if you channel it all into your writing and refuse to be self-conscious or restrained then you can produce some great content and next be clever if you have an idea for a story that is complicated and intelligent don't shy away from it because you are worried it won't appeal to a mass-market the truth is that most avid readers are educated and affluent and these people are more likely to buy a book that appeals to their Intel Agence a publisher is far more likely to be excited about a book that presents a clever idea rather than one that is clearly dumbed down simply to try and appeal to the lowest common denominator don't insult your readers don't underestimate them people like to be challenged they like to escape resist the need to over explain everything it makes for awkward and slow prose use your words carefully and selectively to portray what you mean and have faith that your readers will get it and number five make them laugh and make them cry one of the most important things to achieve when creating a great novel is getting your reaction from your reader your book should make them feel something if you are writing a funny story then aim to make your readers not just smile or half chuckle but bend over in gasping and embarrassing hysterics on the train if your story is sad for yes.i or solitary tear have them sobbing snotty and heartbroken if you can evoke your design response from the reader you're doing something right if you can make them both laugh and cry you are on to a winner agents and editors are highly skilled when it comes to seeing the weaknesses in a story but they will also forgive many flaws if an author shows bravery and skill follow the tips which I've given you here to engage your audience to be true to yourself and hopefully creates a brilliant novel in the process and don't forget if you're struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello there is Peter here again from WritersLife.org and coming up today five things you didn't know about being a freelance writer you may think that being a freelance writer is a bit of a doddle you imagine endless days of sitting in coffee shops typing away on your laptop without a care in the world while watching the big books roll in however this is rarely the case being a freelance writer or rather being a good freelance writer as with any job requires hard work dedication and a whole lot of effort similarly there is no need to be put off by the idea scare stories of over where writers constantly struggling to meet deadlines and never see in the light of day as they try and scrape enough money together to keep a roof over their heads while being shouted up by editors every minute of every day is equally unrealistic the fact is providing you are willing to work with it and hone your craft there is no reason why you can't become a successful writer and reap all the rewards that go with it so what is the middle ground what is it really like to be a freelance writer can you achieve a work/life balance can you really make a decent living well yes of course you can but before you decide let's look at some of the common assumptions so you can see if being a freelance writer is really for you first you don't have to get dressed all day so if you are working from home most of the time you may feel there's no reason to do anything other than start your working day by reaching for your laptop in bed and beginning to write you are your own boss after all so the dress code is up to you however if you want to take your job seriously then it's a good idea to treat it like one that means getting up getting dressed okay so you don't have to put a suit and pack your briefcase but some clothes that aren't pajamas will help and sitting in a work ready space before you begin you are a professional and should act by one motivating yourself to do a great job and work productively is going to be tough if you can't even be bothered to get out of bed and next you'll be rich as with any career some people become hugely successful others fail and fall into debt but for the majority of us there tends to be a ratio the more time and effort we put in the better we'll do you can't exactly work your way up the ladder or decide to give yourself a massive pay rise but you can spend time learning how to write effectively find your niche and become an authority on something build up your experience and slowly but surely you'll be able to pitch for bigger more lucrative jobs feel confident in your value become a good negotiator and that's when you'll start to see the financial rewards you'll be stress-free so you are working for yourself which effectively means you don't have a boss that can dump a load of work on you right before you go on holiday and shout to you for taking a longer lunch break then you're supposed to however working for yourself has his own precious and if you are a freelancer you'll have clients clients who you work for who are paying you to do a good job and do it on time if you don't do this not only will the stress of your workload become unmanageable you'll lose clients and get a bad name in the industry too next you can do what you want when you want freelancing does bring with it a certain flexibility but if this is your full-time job you can't just pick and choose a few convenient hours every week when you're feeling at your most creative you'll have deadlines you'll want great jobs that mean working all the hours that God sends for a while and you'll have up the evenings and weekends where you've got to make up for the times you weren't being quite so productive suddenly instead of working Monday to Friday and getting nice paid holidays you've got to manage all your own time and if you choose not to work you don't make any money so the pressure to do so will be all the more constant and next it won't feel like work doing something you love is amazing and a privilege so if you're a successful freelance writer and it's what you want to do then you will enjoy your work and get great satisfaction from doing it it is however still work and when you have been typing in your laptop for 6 hours straight it will definitely feel that way to remember that going freelance isn't just about writing you've got to constantly pitch for jobs do research send invoices chase invoices do your tax returns and keep track of every single piece of work you've got to get done and when you are your own boss but you are also your accountant admin assistant and HR manager so you better be prepared for that being a freelance writer is hard you've got to love it you've got to work at it and you've got to be realistic about it if you can do all that then it can be a wonderfully rewarding career and don't forget if you're struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find the time to write them finally get your book published to get access to it now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit to okay that's it for now be sure to like this video give We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi I'm Jody from WritersLife.org and today we'll be talking about ten musts for writing a book number one take one fabulous idea it's impossible to overstate the importance of your concept in terms of how successful your book becomes Stephenie Meyer writes perfectly good competent prose but her story idea ordinary girl falls for hot vampire turns her book into a cultural phenomenon dan Brown Stieg Larsson Stephen King are all similar decent writers blessed with stunning ideas agents know this and no matter what your genre a strong premise is essential to selling a book giving any to broadly similar manuscripts agents will almost always pick the one with the strongest central concepts build yourself a blistering plot the next huge essential for any novelist is a story that simply forces the reader to keep turning pages unfortunately there are definite rules about how to achieve this the two crucial rules are a give the protagonist a major life challenge early in the book and don't resolve things until the very ends be if a particular chapter doesn't advance the story in a specific way you have to delete that chapter it sounds simple well actually the principles aren't that hard to understand although executing the advice can be a bit tricky number three next ingredient an unforgettable character or two long after a reader has forgotten the details of a plot the chances are they'll remember the character who impelled it the two things you absolutely have to bear in mind when constructing your characters are a make sure the character and the story bounce off of each other in interesting ways so if to take a stupid example your character has a big fear of spiders the chances are that your story will have to force your character to confront those fears you have to bring your character into their zone of greatest discomfort be make sure that you really really know your character after all it's Alton the big things that make a character sizzle with life it's the little things that make her seem human amy has a passion for Manhattan winter she fell off a horse when she was 12 she collects a shell from every beach she's ever visited one more thing that matters is where you place your camera do you write in the first person the third person do you have one point view - or 10 number four don't forget to give your character some inner life one of the most common problems we see when a character does and says all the right stuff but the reader never really knows what he or she thinks or feels one of the most common problems we see is when a character does and says all the right stuff but the reader never really knows what the character thinks or feels and this is one of the very simplest things for a novelist to do you just need to remember that your protagonist has a rich inner world and you need to tell us about it not just the bland everyday things either Mike felt hungry so he sat down to eat but the things that make him different and unique dramatized dramatized dramatized your job as a novelist is to show the action unfolding on the page readers don't just want a third-hand report of what just happened that means you need to tell them moment by moments as though you were witnessing the events number 6 right well okay we know this sounds obvious but it's no good having a fabulous idea and a brilliant plot if you can't write good clear English your book is made up of sentences and as those sentences don't convey your meaning successfully and clearly your book just won't work fortunately almost everyone has the capacity to write well enough you just have to focus on the challenge in particular do you think about the three building blocks of good writing a clarity you need to express your meaning clearly be economy never use ten words when eight would do si precision be as precise as possible and that normally means you have to see the scene clearly in your head before you can describe it clearly to a reader D that your novel boasts a lovely sense of place e that your dialogue sparkles quite easy to achieve actually and it really strengthens the book and that your manuscript is well presented no row apostrophes please number seven what if I'm writing for children most of the same rules apply no matter what age group you're writing for you write clearly if your style isn't clear kids won't have the patience to stay with you if in doubt keep it simple you write economically same thing here if you waste words if a chapter doesn't immediately drive the story forward you'll lose readers keep it Tops you write warmly children flops to Harry Potter for JK Rowling's ideas and inventiveness but they stayed with her because of her warmth you write with humor and a bit of mischief kids want humor and they want books to break rules that they wouldn't dream of breaking in real life think of your favorite children's book and you'll almost certainly smile number eight reached the final full stop congratulations you're almost halfway there Hemingway once said the first draft if anything is crap and he's right nearly all first drafts will have problems some of them quite profound and that's okay the first draft is really just your opportunity to get stuck in on the real business which is refining and perfecting the story you've just told yourself the chances are that you have not properly succeeded in the following rules above so now it's a pretty good time to go back over these and check that you've made full use of their wisdom you'll find that a lot of these things are circular you'll use the same advice over and over again but make more profound use of it each time around number nine get help writing a book is hard work it's lonely those around you are seldom equipped to offer expert feedback and advice and of course this is a difficult road most first novels do not get published so please don't try to go it alone if you finished your novel however then the most direct route to improving it is to get detailed editorial advice on what's working what's not yet working and what to do to fix it this kind of feedback is the gold standard way to improve your writing and number ten get a literary agent and a book deal literary agents only take about one book in a thousand so before you take this final step we do suggest that you've completed one through number nine properly that said if you're not was good enough you will find it easy enough to secure representation just follow these steps a select your target agents be choose about eight to twelve names you're looking for agents who are keen to take on new writers who are active in your area if they happen to represent authors you love then so much the better see write a fabulous cover letter d write a good clear synopsis a process that terrifies most writers but which is easier than you might think e get your stuff out there and good luck don't forget if you're having a hard time writing or finishing your book check out our free We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello is Peter here a game from writerslife.org and coming up today how to handle editorial feedback sending your manuscripts off to an editor can be nerve-racking even though you may be paying them for their services getting feedback can be difficult when you've spent so long trying to make your book as good a bidding can be an editor's job is to find mistakes not just regarding spelling grammar and punctuation but also with regards to how your story works overall of course you are in charge because you are paying so if you pay an editor to review your book it's up to you to direct them about what kind of feedback you want just remember however there having a professional editor review your work before you send it to agents and publishers makes a massive difference in terms of your chances of success if you choose to self publish a professional editor can ensure your book goes on sale being the best version it can possibly be so how can you prepare yourself for editorial feedback and learn how to handle it all professionally first don't panic when you first look at the changes and editors made there may be a lot of them this may make you feel utterly disheartened or completely outraged but either way the key is not to freak out there may be hundreds even thousands of edits to your manuscript a lot of these however will be minor amendments a comma here a formatting change there and are therefore nothing to worry about additional edits may require more time to look over and absorb but remember edits don't mean your manuscript was awful to start with many excellent books need a considerable amount of editing before they hit the shelves and is something all writers must go through to make their book amazing next be thorough take your time to go through every edit and consider whether you want to accept it or reject it don't rush this at first you may feel wounded by some of the suggested changes and your natural reaction may be to refuse them however this might not be what is best for your book so try to stay calm and be as objective as you possibly can be saying that you also don't have to accept every suggestion an editor has made it's your story after all just be sure you are clear in your reasons for doing so and make sure it's not just your ego getting in the way next any questions if you aren't sure why a particular edit hasn't been made get in touch with your editor for clarification doing so can help you get a better understanding and insight into their thinking which will reassure you that they know what they are talking about and have done an excellent job next proofread wants more once you have accepted or rejected the changes made by your editor it's a good idea to have a final read-through of your manuscript to make sure everything is as it should be so reading through one more time will make doubly sure your - script is perfect and ready to be shared with the world and next celebrate working through your edits and manuscripts is one of the very last stages of finalizing your book doing so takes time effort and a cool head it's not easy to let someone else get hands on your work but once you've done this you can celebrate your achievement and don't forget if you're struggling to write or finish your book our free writer's toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and finally get your book published to get access now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's it for that be sure to give us a thumbs up my name is Peter and I'll see you again soon bye for now

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello there its peter here again from WritersLife.org and today what are publishers looking for getting published is hard all writers know it yet so many of us keep on trying to get our work published we keep going through the long drawn-out process of writing perfecting and sending off her manuscripts we keep writing synopsis and coverlets of searching agents and editors to try and find the best match and painfully excruciating me sitting around I'm waiting to hear any news we do all this for the TV tiny one-in-a-million chance that we might hear back from them and that they might tell us they liked our work and that they want to take it forward it's a lot of effort for such a small chance so how can we make it more worth our while the truth is that we can do everything right we can polish our manuscripts to perfection we can write a dazzling covering letter we can research our audience and prove that there is a readership out there but still we don't get the response we are hoping for it leaves us tearing our hair out staring at our gradually thickening pile of rejection letters and screaming what do you want well we don't have a crystal ball often it's because writers aren't really honestly pay attention to or accepting what it is that publishers want that they see their work rejected time and time again if we close our eyes and ears to what they are asking we naturally can't expect to get very far so just what is it that publishers are looking for they want to be dazzled by your idea your story must be unique but not so out there it has no mass appeal it needs to be mainstream enough that a lot of people will buy or have a specific unique audience that is hungry for it but also needs to be strong enough to stand out from the competition it needs to be on trend or good enough to stand the test of time they want the whole package being great at writing books is no longer enough publishers want someone who they can rely on to get out there and be a powerhouse of promotion - if you are personable presentable and passionate throughout your work you need to make sure that comes across every time you pitch authors can no longer just let their work do the talking or hide behind their stories they need to be marketable as people - next they want a business partner the more skills you can bring to the table the better publishers no longer want to take a punt on a new author no matter how promising they don't like risks they want to know that by going into partnership with you that you can produce resource and by resource we mean book sales showing that you have a significant social media following they want marketing savvy that you are passionate hard-working and already have more books in the pipeline this all helps publishers recognize you as a safe bet your credentials and the author platform will help them see this if you can prove you already have a creative and detailed promotional plan and are willing to put the working this can help you seem more appealing - so if you want to land a traditional publishing deal think about how you can mold yourself and your work into these things we've already mentioned these days a writer needs to be so much more than just a writer so if you can prove you have the business know-how as well as the skill go for it and don't forget if he's struggling to write or for this your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and finally get your book published to get access now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's it for now be sure to give us a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel for more I'm Peter I'll see you again soon bye for now

We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi I'm Jody from WritersLife.org and today we'll be talking about how to stop your blog from becoming boring we all know that a great author blog can do wonders when it comes to boosting your profile as an author but just because we love to write books doesn't mean that writing blog posts will come naturally to us writing and maintaining an impressive blog is hard work and for many writers it can be difficult to come up with fresh and exciting new material for their blog posts as well as trying to concentrate on their book however if writers can juggle the two the rewards can be invaluable but a boring blog can do your career worse damage than not writing one at all so how do you make sure that your blog posts are made fresh and interesting and say something your readers want to hear let us first discuss what makes blog posts boring in the first place all facts but no story people love facts facts are fascinating after all but a list of cold hard facts will leave your readers disengaged be playful have a buildup tell a story to deliver the most significant impact too egocentric if your blog post is all about you it will quickly bore your readers to tears we're not saying you aren't super interesting but you need to mix in more observational or helpful pieces otherwise you'll turn your readers off no personality don't be afraid to reveal your personality through your posts share your opinions and show who you are a blog without personality doesn't allow readers to connect with the voice behind the posts and they'll want to get to know you so let them in no impact don't write about nothing actually consider what will make an impact what will get your readers to sit up and take notice create a buzz stir people into action make your blog count for something you'll find it so much more fun to write if you do misjudging your audience what some people may find boring others may find fascinating so it's crucial that you figure out who your target audience is and then go on to work at creating blog posts that are interesting for them your blog posts don't have to be universally fascinating but if you don't work out who they're for chances are they'll fall on deaf ears so how can you make sure to never write a boring post again if you can be funny be funny there's nothing quite as appealing as making someone laugh you don't have to stuff your blogpost with knock-knock jokes but try to inject some wit some humor some sarcasm and you'll soon find readers clamoring you for more keep them hooked until the end it's all well and good having a punchy headline and a smart opening paragraph but if your post is all style and no substance your readers will call you out make sure you give your readers reasons to read it all the way through the end is where you'll encourage them to like or share your post so they need to get there if they're going to make an impact be emotive we're not saying readers need to finish reading your blog posts and floods of tears but trying to conjure up a picture and play on their emotions is a good thing make it personal tell a story make sure you are at least trying to be effecting make sure you seduce your reader flatter them lure them in make them buy into what you have to say for the long term so they keep coming back for more so there you have it some quick tips to ensure you never write a dull post again how do you come up with material for your author blogs share your ideas with us down below and don't forget if you're having a hard time writing or finishing your book our free writers toolkit can help it can help you overcome procrastination get organized stay focused and get your book published just head over to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit to get your free copy if you enjoyed this video don't forget to give it a thumbs up turn on our notifications and subscribe down below and be sure to visit writer's life.org for more writing tips and tricks and I'll see you next time

http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello there its Peter here again from Writer's Life and today ways you might be self sabotaging your writing career one thing many writers have in common is their ability to self-sabotage writers can often be so unfairly negative about themselves and their work it is as if they are their own worst enemy bar the obvious negative effect this has on once self-esteem this self-sabotage also naturally has an effect on a writer's ability to succeed having put so much time energy and care into your work doesn't it seems something of a shame if you are the one who gets in the way of your own success be open to the possibility of actually being a successful writer is so important it's not just about look or even about talent it's also about having a positive mindset and the determination to keep going even when the chips are down so what are the signs to look out for which may suggest you are sabotaging your writing career here are some of the most common and first you've fallen out of love with writing gone are the days where you felt excited and elated every time you sat down to write lately it feels so much more forced your stories like the passion and flow of earlier times and you keep getting distracted or finding any excuse to leave your work and go and do something else if this sounds like you you need to think about what might be causing you to feel this way if you can understand the cause as to why your writing doesn't fulfill you as it used to you can tackle it head-on make a list of all the things you love about writing and all the obstacles that stop you from doing it or enjoy it as you should focus on what makes you happy and don't worry about the rest and next you've lost confidence in your ability to write if you started to feel negative about your writing ability and everything you write seems terrible this negativity is bound to have an impact on the quality of your writing overall perhaps it's time to reassess how you critique your work are you too hard on yourself or perhaps you need to go back to basics and start again producing a great piece of writing is a slow and laird process but it's essential that you remain confident in your ability to achieve what you want to achieve next you're suffering from the dreaded writer's block if you simply can't find any inspiration and every time you sit down to write your mind goes blank there could be an underlying reason that has locked you in a downward spiral and you need to get yourself out of it before your career starts to suffer it's hard to be creative when you are feeling stressed or anxious so try to find ways to clear your mind and relax so that you have the necessary freedom to write find inspiration by joining a writing group apps taking up a new hobby maybe traveling or just experimenting with your writing to see if it in a new direction reinvigorates you once more and next when you do get some interest you worry too much if an agent or publisher shows interest in your book it's important to accept this as an awesome compliment some writers end up self sabotaging by immediately finding the enormity of finishing their book or making suggested revisions too overwhelming they feel like an impostor becomes suspicious and uncertain and pest to the agent or publisher so much that eventually the deal falls through remember if you do get interest you are in a considerable minority it's okay to be nervous but try to be calm and professional and stay confident in your ability to get the job done next you finish your work and never send it off a classic sign of writer self-sabotage is that dusty old manuscript that sits shrouded in shame at the bottom of a desk drawer or those many drafty emails to agents and publishers that have been sitting ready to go for months if you have finished your work spent a sensible amount of time and focus editing it and crafted a solid submission later it's time to let it go you are probably never going to feel your work is perfect or good enough to submit but if you want to stand a chance there has to be a point where you let it go if yourself sabotaging your writing career it's time to figure out why once you start giving it some thought the reasons should become pretty clear so just listen to yourself your instincts and try to nip it in the bud as soon as possible and don't forget if you're struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help We LOVE to read comments so please leave a comment and subscribe to Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/writerslifeorg Grab your free writer's toolkit by going to http://www.writerslife.org/finish-your-book ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello its Peter here again from Writer's life and today how to develop your initial book idea there's nothing quite like a feeling of coming up with a brilliant idea for a new book it might come to you in a flash when you are relaxing or thinking about all the things you might see or hear is something that inspires you all you might have added the idea at the back of your mind for a long time and feel now is the time to explore it further however you happened upon your initial book idea it can be an exciting time when you get that first spa knowing what to do with it next however can be a little more tricky writing a novel is no mean feat after all a while it can be tempting just to jump right in and start without researching and taking the time to understand your story idea and whether it can work you can end up in trouble some writers like to simply write and see where it takes them while this can be freeing and productive most writers find that they'd end up backing themselves into a corner suddenly their story runs out of steam all the plots has gotten so complicated there's no keeping track of what is going on or they have backed themselves into a corner and there is nowhere left to go finding out that your story isn't going to work when you've already invested time and energy into it can be very disheartening that's why it's a good idea to take some steps to ensure you can get from chapter 1 right through until the end so how do you do this first of all shape your idea once you have your brilliant initial idea don't stop there spend lots of time bending and shaping it experimenting with it and allowing it to grow think about your characters motivations work out how to add unique twists to your plot push the limits of your imagination by breaking from the mold one great idea does not make a novel so make sure you spend time adding to it and then chipping away at it and then adding to it again until your idea is something much more sculpted and much more powerful as a result next pay attention to everyone and everything it's easy to get too focused on your main characters and too bogged down in the main plot however a good book has minor characters and subplots too and these should be just as fierce and imaginative and intriguing and fantastic as the rest of your novel make sure it has depth and layers and make sure you can tie everything together at the end when writing your first draft write about everything include it's all pack your story full of interesting characters and places and things to make it burst from the page next give it space to write a book you need enough material to keep it going if you find that you're struggling to find enough to say or are trying too hard to fill out your chapters but soon find your book will feel slow and lethargic keep up the energy pick up the pace and if parts of your plot feels slow work out how to add drama to amp them up and drive them forward so you're right a real page-turner next get rid of the excess once you've written your first draft you can now start to strip it back get rid of everything that isn't sorry even if it's brilliantly written you'll know when something has no place being in your book and even though it may hurt to take it out it's the only way to make sure your story is truly great by implementing these techniques you'll take your story from its initial idea to something far more exciting something tangible well developed and ultimately something that you can be truly proud of developing your book ideas takes focus but doing so and allowing oneself the time to truly explore the creative process will mean that your book will be all the better and no doubt your readers will think so too and don't forget if it's struggling to write or finish your book our free writers toolkit can help with it you'll learn how to overcome procrastination get organized stay focused find time to write and finally get your book published to get access to it now while it's still available simply go to http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's http://www.writerslife.org/toolkit that's it for now be sure to give us a thumbs up and subscribe to our channel for more and I'll see you next time
