What a sweet and loving presence of the Lord! Our session was full of God's perfect peace and kindness overtaking the atmosphere. We praised and worshiped God by praying & singing in the spirit. We improvised songs and melodies and mixed a bit of, "You Make Me Brave," by Bethel into it. We also spoke much encouragement specifically targeting fear and the spirit of fear. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Psalm 19 1 The heavens declare the glory of God, * and the firmament shows his handiwork. 2 One day tells its tale to another, * and one night imparts knowledge to another. 3 Although they have no words or language, * and their voices are not heard,  4 Their sound has gone out into all lands, * and their message to the ends of the world. 5 In the deep has he set a pavilion for the sun; * it comes forth like a bridegroom out of his chamber; it rejoices like a champion to run its course. 6 It goes forth from the uttermost edge of the heavens  and runs about to the end of it again; * nothing is hidden from its burning heat. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect and revives the soul; * the testimony of the Lord is sure and gives wisdom to the innocent. 8 The statutes of the Lord are just and rejoice the heart; * the commandment of the Lord is clear and gives light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is clean and endures for ever; * the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, more than much fine gold, * sweeter far than honey, than honey in the comb. 11 By them also is your servant enlightened, * and in keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can tell how often he offends? * cleanse me from my secret faults. 13 Above all, keep your servant from presumptuous sins; let them not get dominion over me; * then shall I be whole and sound, and innocent of a great offense. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart  be acceptable in your sight, * O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Mark 8:27-38 (NRSV) Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” And they answered him, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.” And he sternly ordered them not to tell anyone about him. Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. He said all this quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.” He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life? Indeed, what can they give in return for their life? Those who are ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” The Apostles' Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. The Lord's Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Collect of the Day Proper 19, Rite Two O God, because without you we are not able to please you mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14)

As we continue our series allowing God to prepare us for the new year, today we're going to look at the promise of God that we can do all things in his strength. My hope is that we're filled with courage and hope today for what God can and will do in us as we make space to live and work in him in this new year. Our Scripture for today comes from Philippians 4:13, and today's worship is You Make Me Brave by Bethel Music featuring Amanda Cook. First15 is a daily devotional written and recorded by Craig Denison. If you'd like to give to support First15 and help us reach our $100,000 goal by the end of this year, click here to visit our giving page. Our faith is not an intellectual pursuit; proper belief in God should result in actions and a pattern of life that honors him. Simply affirming the right things does not go far enough, our faith should lead to a changed life as evidenced by our activities and perseverance. 1. Listen more. Speak less (vs. 19-20)2. Look closely. Take action (vs. 21-25)3. Live faith. After dramatically healing a crippled man in Lystra, Jews came down from Antioch and Iconium and incited the crowds to turn against Paul. They stoned him and, thinking he was dead, dragged him out of the city. Though he had been severely hurt, Paul was not discouraged and boldly returned to the very cities that had opposed him to encourage the faithful. Finishing their journey, and despite the persecution, they rejoiced in all that God had done.1. What are you wanting to hear? (vs. 8-13)2. Who are you serving? (vs. 14-18)3. Where are you headed? The apostle Paul and Barnabas are sent out on their first missionary journey and they strategically begin in the synagogues of the Jews. As one would expect, the proclamation of the gospel was not well received by all. Paul confronts a magician, Elymas, who opposed them miraculously striking him blind. Seeing what had occurred, even the procounsel believed. Knowing that our proclamation could put us at odds with others cannot deter us from sharing our faith.1. It is intentional (vs. 1-3)2. It is global (vs. 4-5)3. It is opposed (vs. 6-8)4. God, in his grace, not only tells us of coming punishment but also how we can save ourselves from it. Not all the Egyptians heeded God's direction and they suffered for their disobedience. While we often learn from positive examples set before us, we too should learn from the examples of those who choose poorly and observe the result.1. Heed the Warning (vs. 13-35)2. The "Heart Cries" sermon series continues with "Double Trouble". Often our PROBLEMS can seem overwhelming (Psalm 27:13-28:5). When problems hit we need to wait upon the Lord (Psalm 27:13-14). First, we need to trust God's TIMING and be patient (Psalm 28:6). We nee to believe God is working and expectantly watch (Psalm 28-7a). Finally, We need to trust in God's LOVE and care for us (Psalm 28L7b). When problems hit we need to run to the Rock (Psalm 28:1,8-9). God is the rock that COMFORTS and protects us (Psalm 28:8) and God is the rock that SAVES us (Psalm 28:9). Featuring music from the Praise Band "Nothing Ever (Could Separate Us), "You Make Me Brave" with soloist Chrissy Haywood, "Worthy, Worth", and "Victor's Crown" with soloist Dawn Pendleton. The Victory Choir presents "Festival of Praise" and Cynthia Winfree sings her original song "Nothing Sweeter".

Just as God had told Abraham (Gn. 15:13), the Israelites grew in number as they lived in Egypt. The pharaoh, feeling threatened, enslaves the Israelites and begins a season of intense opposition.
