Mark Blocher is the co-founder and CEO of Christian Healthcare Centers, Inc., a Grand Rapids, MI-based non-profit organization providing primary and specialist medical services in Michigan. His educational background includes undergraduate and advanced degrees from Cornerstone University, Western Michigan University, Dallas Theological Seminary and Kennedy-Western University. Mark has personally taught at many colleges and universities in Michigan and has founded and run a number of non-profits concerned with pro-life and health related matters. Mark has authored a number of articles and books and is well known nation-wide as a speaker on issues dealing with life, health and bioethics. Mark and his dear wife Julie are parents of 4 grown children, and they are the proud grandparents of now 6 grandkids! In this podcast, Mark talks about one of the areas we American Christians have largely bought into the lies of our culture. And that is the area of children: being open to having a large family should God so lead. Our American culture says we should minimize child-bearing. But more and more books and studies are showing we face a very bleak future as a nation and a world due to insufficient numbers of children being born. Yes, it takes a lot of work and a lot of resources to raise even one child. But Scripture makes it abundantly clear that each precious child is created by God and in His image, and has the potential of impacting our world for good and then living forever in His eternal kingdom! And God has promised to meet all our needs as we put Him and His Kingdom first. So why not have a “quiver full” of kids (Psalm 127)? Bottom line, we American Christians need to repent of our lack of having God be the Lord of this area of our lives. For more information, check out our book: Sweeter by the Dozen: Making Jesus the Lord of Our Family Size.

The intensity of spiritual thought to be found in Psalm 119 invites our deepest reflection and meditation. The Psalmist is contemplating how the reality of his relationship with God penetrated all spheres of his life. As we read this Psalm it impels us to treasure God's word as the springboard of all our really worthwhile meditation. “How sweet are your words to my taste. Sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way”[v.103,104]How much does our meditation lead us to hate every false way? The philosophy of today is not to “hate” anything, everything is to be tolerated. The uninspired human heart stumbles along in its blindness. Can we say with the Psalmist, “Oh how love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day … I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.” [v.97.99] He tells God, “Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart” therefore “I hate the double minded, but I love your law.” [v.111,113] What a human inclination it is these days to be double-minded, our politicians are good at that, but they are only reflecting the attitudes of the many, but the Psalmist, who – let us not forget – is addressing God, says, “All the wicked of the earth you (will) discard like dross, therefore I love your testimonies. My flesh trembles for fear (awe) of you …” [v.119, 120] and asks, “Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love.” [v.124]Do we ask that? Our readings in Luke's Gospel details one person who was particularly aware of that – and overwhelmed by that! We read yesterday of Mary saying, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices…” Today we read the testimony of the shepherds who came to see the babe lying in a manger and told Mary of their experience and what they had heard. And Mary “treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart” [2 v.19]. When Mary and Joseph bring the babe to Jerusalem, Simeon a “righteous and devout man …. Blessed them and said to Mary…. Behold this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed … so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed” [v.25,34,35]Thoughts revealed? Well, just look at the reactions of those jealous of Jesus! Look at the heart searchings of those who started to follow him and then left (John 6 v.60, 66) Yes, God can read all thoughts, he can see how well we are responding to the teaching of Jesus and whether we are meditating like the Psalmist! Or are we meditating at all? It takes someone like David to meditate all the day?But God knows what is happening in our hearts. Your heart?
How often have we looked at the truths in God's Word and thought they felt confining, hard maybe, even punitive? Like He was holding out on us. Instead of seeing His truths and commandments as love. The very things that protect us, guide us, and restore us. I hope today we will have a different perspective.

Following your dream sounds nice. It is a piece of advice we like to offer to recent graduates, and we like to think we are following it. But is following your dream really good advice? We have an unrealistic expectation. If we just follow our dreams, we find what we are looking for. We have to pursue our dreams no matter the cost. This is idea is so wrong because it usually leads to debt (massive student loans), unrealistic expectations, and a loss of opportunity. That's why I like to revisit this topic. Mom, when we keep doing the same things again and again. It can feel like we aren't doing enough. We get caught in the mundane tasks of working from home and homeschooling, we start to diminish what we do. Mom, let me tell you what you are doing is changing the world. I know when we are focused on the everyday tasks, it doesn't feel that way. But you are giving your kids the greatest gift possible, you. Giving them your time, energy, and heart will change the world. Let's explore the reality of following your dream and pursue the fulfilling journey of reality. Can the foods you eat shape your fate? Explore the deep-rooted traditions of Rosh Hashanah as we uncover the fascinating world of omens and signs in Judaism. From the symbolic consumption of pomegranates, apples, and honey to the intriguing reasons behind avoiding nuts, our discussion offers a blend of mystical insight and practical wisdom. Drawing from the Gemara and the teachings of Rav Moshe Isserlis, we reveal how these customs aim to pave the way for a prosperous and sweet new year. But that's not all. We delve into the profound lessons of the Kotzker Rebbe, who urged us to look beyond the surface of these practices and understand their spiritual essence. By examining how the numerical value of "egozim" (nuts) equates to "cheit" (sin), we emphasize the importance of genuine self-improvement and mindfulness as we usher in the new year. This episode is not just about traditions; it's about how they guide us toward a more righteous and mindful life. Passage: 7 The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one's life; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise. 8 The precepts of the Lord are right, making the heart glad; the command of the Lord is radiant, making the eyes light up. 9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous. 10 They are more desirable than gold — than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb. 11 In addition, your servant is warned by them, and in keeping them there is an abundant reward. 12 Who perceives his unintentional sins? Cleanse me from my hidden faults. 13 Moreover, keep your servant from willful sins; do not let them rule me. Then I will be blameless and cleansed from blatant rebellion. 14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. -- Psalms 19:7-14 (CSB) Song: Psalm 19 (https://open.spotify.com/track/53vTs9zrsTGvqr05Xm8WAN?si=6ca91b3b350b43d2) by Jess Ray Lyrics: Purify my heart, May every word, every thought Every motive, every intention Be pleasing in your sight O God For Your voice refreshes my soul, Brings joy to my heart, And light to my eyes Your words more precious than gold, Sweeter than honey, Better than life Prayer:

Bible Reading: Psalm 119:97-104Gabriella read Mom's grocery list as she walked down the familiar aisles at the store. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a box of chocolate cream-filled snack cakes sitting on the shelf, and her mouth watered. I wish Mom had put Choco-Cakes on this list, she thought. As she walked back to the produce section, Gabriella thought about those Choco-Cakes and how good they would have tasted. She found her mother and placed the items from her list into the cart. "Why the frown?" asked Mom. "Are you upset about something?""No," answered Gabriella. "I was just wishing I could have picked up Choco-Cakes instead of all this stuff. I just love those things!" She rolled her eyes dramatically. "When I walk past them, I can almost hear them call out my name. 'Gabriella--I'm over here! Buy me! Eat me!' They're so good!" She and Mom both laughed."And what does the honey say when you walk by?" asked Mom as she took a jar of honey from a floor display. "It's sweet. Does it call your name too?"Gabriella shrugged. "No. Honey's okay, but I don't ever crave it. Do you?""No, but I think a lot of people in the Bible did," Mom said thoughtfully. "Some verses I read in the book of Psalms this morning included one that mentions honey, where the author says God's words are sweeter than honey.""I remember that verse," said Gabriella. "We had to learn it for church once. Maybe it would make more sense to me if I liked honey better.""The writer must have liked honey a lot," said Mom. "But he's saying that he likes God's Word even better. But for you…" Mom paused. "Why not think of it this way? God wants you to be hungry for His Word--the Bible--because it tells us what Jesus did to save us and reminds us of who we are as God's children. Through it, God gives us wisdom and encouragement for our lives. God wants you to be more hungry for His Word than for anything else in this world, including Choco-Cakes!"Gabriella grinned. "That I can understand," she said. "That would mean I like God's Word a whole lot!" –Jaunita UrbachHow About You?Are you hungry for God and His Word? Think of something you really like to eat and compare your desire for that to your desire to know what God says. God wants you to enjoy the good things He provides for you to eat, but He also wants to give you spiritual nourishment through His Word. Taste its sweetness every day by taking a few minutes to read some verses from it.Today's Key Verse:How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (NKJV) (Psalm 119:103)Today's Key Thought:Be hungry for God's Word
