Roger Hornbeck, Cody Harris and Josiah Goff comprise this panel of those leading with Enneagram Type 5. The Enneagram 5 structure is built around analyzing, assessing and calculating as the go-to strategy for self-protection. Enneagram Fives employ an internal energy calculus to filter their feelings and assess their participation in life. Leading with Type 5, Roger, Cody and Josiah possess natural cognitive intelligence that resides in the head center of the Enneagram. They trace their respective journeys of deepening their human experience by developing emotional intelligence, based in the heart center of the Enneagram. This, in turn, has led them to deeper, more effective relationships. Roger is a spiritual director and speaker. He and is wife, Sharon, lead the organization Transformation of the Heart (www.transformationoftheheart.com). Cody and Josiah host EnneagramFive (www.enneagramfive.com), a podcast devoted to, you guessed it, exploring Enneagram Type 5. Find out more about Jeff's work at www.transmuto.org.

On this week's episode of Enneagram IRL, we meet with Chris Schoolcraft. Chris has led and coached individuals, teams, and organizations through adversity for over 25 years. During this time, he has worked in religious, non-profit, and corporate settings, investing in urban, small towns, and suburban communities. He has learned from and supported both the disenfranchised and the ultra-wealthy, personally and professionally, partnering with non-profits and businesses to positively impact communities and lives.A little over 8 years ago, Chris's life underwent a foundation-shaking shift, prompting him to seek new tools, perspectives, and relationships. He was introduced to the Enneagram, engaged in therapy focusing on inner child work, and enlisted a professional coach. Chris discovered a newfound authenticity and resilience, leading to a richer and deeper life. Out of this life-changing journey, Chris feels a clearer call to lead and coach organizations, teams, groups, and individuals toward greater self-awareness, growth, depth, and transformation.
Dr. Carol Tanksley joins Typology to discuss her journey of self-discovery and the powerful impact learning to see her emotions as knowledge has had on her life. As Dr. Tanksley explains, “When I finally started to understand that it was not knowledge that I needed to quote ‘fix me,' then I started to make progress. […] Things started to change in my life. I started to come to terms with the emotional and feeling part of me, hence the wing four. I had all kinds of feelings. They were there all the time.” Learning to befriend our feelings opens the door to wholeness and true connection. When you're in seasons of shadow, it often feels like your spouse is the antihero and you're not only the hero but the author, writing your own story and having to rely on whatever methods you need to survive. In the new "Enneagram in Marriage" book, we remember together that it's not so much about casting judgment on one person wholly as it is about discovering the emotional backstory behind the maladaptive marriage struggles in one or both partners - and more, just what can be done about this so your vices don't inevitably make things worse. In this brand-new Enneagram in Marriage book backstory series, Christa unlocks the often misread complex layers contributing to keeping our vices locked into place piece by piece, and puts her cards on the table to bring her husband Wes on to share his side of the book intro story about her own vices as well. Some of us, particularly those who identify with Enneagram 2, 5, and 8, create patterns of rejecting behavior that potentially hinder their quality of life and their love match. Join Christa for a mini-episode on the Harmony groups as we discuss types 2, 5, and 8, and the ways they can reject nurturing and accidentally bring out something they fear most, rejection from the ones they love. Stay tuned for the other types! Learn even more in our deeper dive PDFs on types 2, 5, 8, and all the types right here! When we begin relationships, we often have no idea how past trauma from the past will affect us in the future, nor do we often know how to address it early on. Today we get to learn how Evan and Tiffany Doyle (Enneagram 5-2 Pairing) walked through their relationship stages both early on and then later when trauma patterns settled in, as well as how they built trust together. We talk about releasing secrets, dealing with shame and shadows, and shifting systems together in the relationship. Tune in to walk with us through this beautiful and hopeful love story. Best friends and ministry co-directors Ginger and Annie join us to discuss how the enneagram plays in their relationship. Ginger is a 5, and Annie is a 1. They share how they learned about their types; how each of them has learned to lean into their strengths to pull up the other's weaknesses; how their numbers ebb and flow into stress and security; and why understanding the energy levels of both is so important.Don't miss Episode 18, where Ginger talks all things enneagram Five.To support Eden's Glory's fall fundraiser, check out Graze in the Grass. In Reverend Ginger Coakley's own words: I am humbled that God called me to lead something like this. Eden's Glory is an act of courage and obedience, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It is also an honor to have a front row seat to the transforming power and grace of God. In 2010 I was completely unaware that slavery still existed. When I heard, I devoured information from statistics to documentaries, to narrative accounts. I was heart broken at the reality. I was angered by the injustice, and I was CALLED to do something about it. So I quit my job, moved to Illinois, got married, bought a house, had a baby, and started a ministry all in the same year. Crazy! We have been open since September 2015 and I'm grateful to walk alongside survivors every day.Annie Schomaker is a licensed clinical social worker with vast experience of casework, counseling, and training in her field. In 2004, God moved her heart to fight for the broken, the enslaved, and challenge systemic injustices and she has never turned back. Annie is the co-founder and lead program developer for Eden's Glory. MANY hours of learning, research, networking, writing, revising, wrestling, creativity, heart, and PRAYER have been given to the creation of a two-year treatment program for survivors of human trafficking. Annie leads us with a high standard, and with God's help and grace, to focus on the women and their pursuit of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and relational restoration.
Do you know someone who's got a sharp eye for details? Someone who tends to fade into the background, but doesn't miss anything? Someone who has only so much energy for social interactions? They might be an Enneagram Five. These Investigators are a model of curiosity and intelligence. How can they learn to operate not out of scarcity and fear, but abundance and faith? And how do the rest of us help them flourish?
Two Enneagram 5 INTJs describe the differences between the 5w4 and 5w6.
Have you wondered how your survival instincts affect your sex life or lack of intimacy as a couple? The instincts are undoubtedly relevant as we talk with Enneagram researcher and sexpert, Sam E. Greenberg, Enneagram 5 about how you can grow together as you work to understand one another's ways of staying feeling loved, close, and safe in the world. Sam and Christa go over both the basics as well as the depths of each of the instincts and how you as partners can relax enough in your instincts together to enjoy a mutually pleasurable intimacy life together. In this episode, you will have the pleasure of hearing how an Enneagram 5, Evan Doyle, moves through the world, how he changed his career from a pastor of 18 years, now helping others find their most suitable career path through his creation of the Enneagram Career Guide. I ask Evan all the questions since 5s are typically the least likely to appear on podcast episodes. This may be useful to those considering 5 as their type or just to increase understanding of the 5s in their life. We also talk about the common mistakes that are made as people select careers and how to avoid those. I carefully evaluated Evan's career guide through my perspective and I feel it asks really thoughtful questions to tease through your brain and help you find exactly what type of work speaks to you. I first met my guest Erin Nicole approximately four years ago, but we didn't have an opportunity to get to know each other until we joined the same mastermind. Erin doesn't have much background in the Enneagram, so I thought it would be fun to bring her on the show for another live Enneagram typing session—your favorite!Erin Nicole Porter is a Spiritual Business Coach, Master Practitioner & Trainer of NLP, Breathwork Facilitator, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in Training, Adult Attachment Repair Model Therapist, and Host of the Energetics of Business Podcast.Although she is an Enneagram type 5, Erin recognized that she needed to put all her learning into the world; otherwise, the knowledge was pointless. This essential piece of insight helped me to determine Erin is a type 5 with a one-to-one subtype offering her the ability to tap into the emotional vulnerability that other type 5s don't have. On this episode of The Leadership Formula, Erin shares how she grew up on a farm in Ohio with midwestern energy in a blended family where she always protected her mother. This upbringing helped develop her one-to-one nature. Erin shares her big life story around burnout and the effect that has had on her health. We explore how burnout comes when she's leaning into her Enneagram stress number, the 7—with 8 million tabs open at once. Listen in to understand what characterizes a one-to-one Enneagram 5 like Erin as we explore some ways she can change the way she expresses herself using her 4 wing. We'll also look at how she can use her 6 wing to implement all her Enneagram 5 information gathering and pour it out through her life's work to change more lives. What You Will LearnWhy type 5's seek all the knowledge but sometimes have difficulty sharing it with othersHow Enneagram 5s try to manage their fears by hoarding everything from resources to energyHow one-on-one Enneagram 5s differ from other 5s in their desire for more emotional bonding with othersHow Erin can use her 4 wing to communicate their feelings. How Enneagram 5's can lean into their 6 wing to share their vast knowledge with others Why type 5s worry about becoming energetically and emotionally become drainedWhy intellect overrides emotion for type 5s every timeHow the type 5s propensity toward taking in so much knowledge internally can lead to body burnoutConnect with ErinErin Nicole Coaching:https://erinnicolecoaching.com/The Energetics of Business Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-energetics-of-business/id1303310665Connect with Tracytracyomalley.comwww.instagram.com/tracy_omalleywww.facebook.com/tracy.omalleytwitter.com/TracyOMallwww.linkedin.com/in/tracy-o-malley/ResourcesBurnout To Breakthrough:https://www.erinnicolecoaching.co/breakthroughBook an Enneagram Kickstart Session:http://tracyomalley.com/workwithme/Email info@tracyomalley.com
What does it mean to be “masculine.” Unfortunately, there are a lot of conflicting ideas and messages about what a “real man” is (and is not). In today's episode, author, nationally syndicated radio show host, and Enneagram Five, Brant Hansen challenges us to redefine masculinity and paints a refreshing picture of what it looks like at its absolute best. We have an insightful conversation about the: importance of expressing feelings and affection value of protecting others from a place of kindness and love, rather than control and anger core task men need to take responsibility for, and Six decisions that set men apart from others Brant's vulnerability and openness will genuinely move you. Brant Hansen is an author, radio host, and advocate for healing children with correctible disabilities through CURE International. He's won multiple awards for "Personality of the Year" for his radio show, which airs on more than 200 stations nationwide. His podcast with his friend and radio producer, The Brant and Sherri Oddcast, has been downloaded more than 10 million times. The author of The Truth About Us, Unoffendable, and Blessed Are the Misfits. High 5's all around for episode 9 of Enneagram for the Culture. Kimberly Reese Sherman and Camille Logan, Black therapists hailing out of the North Carolina, get into the head triad and talk about the intellectually driven 5 personality type. After opening with how the Enneagram showed up for the hosts, we jump into the thinking minds of 5's (15:13). Following that, Kim gives us a breakdown of their arrow connections; 7 and 8 (20:22) where 5's can respond more like a 7 when in distressing situations and lean towards the 8 type when they're trying to progress and grow. At around minute (25:22) we fly into wings 4 and 6 and examine the situations that allow 5's to fall to either one, as told by Camille. Later we examine how and why 5's tend to retreat to their minds and leave reality behind when Camille tells a short anecdote about her friend (29:00). Also, like other personality types, 5's can be mislabeled and misunderstood because people often have misconceptions, which are expertly explained by Kim (36:24). Nearing the end, we learn that being black and being a 5 can lead to having a scarcity mindset and falsely believing that there aren't enough resources to go around (40:00). We hope that this was a stimulating conversation for our 5 friends and an accurate representation of who they are, or who they can be. Indulge, and thank you for listening!
