A lot of people who have really big dreams and visions and incredible messages for the world shoot themselves down, because they don't think it's possible–Ashley LuldlowWhat are you doing in 2023? Not sure yet? That's okay. Take some time to dream big and get excited about your vision. I'm talking with Ashley Ludlow, a multi-passionate entrepreneur and mama, who runs a digital media agency and is also a songwriter, about her unique vision process — vision board videos.Do you ever have an idea that you're so excited about for a minute? But then the overwhelm and the doubt and the “why didn't I do this earlier?” kicks in. That dread or disappointment or frustration can stop us in our tracks. That's why having a tool that reconnects us to the excitement helps.Ashley suggests that you start your vision board video process by taking time to dream or vision. Let it be big and real about what you want in your life, where you want to be, who you want to be with. Don't put any limits on it, but get really clear on what you want, not what other people want or expect of you.We talk about: The myth that something has to give and how we can have all the things we really want in our livesLearning to imagine what's possible and dreaming big, exploring the dreams of all the parts of you—your spiritual self, physical self, relationships, finance … asking what would happen if you got rid of the boundaries—family expectations, financial stressorsUsing present tense and positive vision statements and not getting hung up on the visual or techy parts of creating a vision board videoHow to actually use a vision board video once you've made itNature and creative play as ways back when you've forgotten how to dreamBIOAshley Ludlow is a Creative Business Strategist and Technology Consultant. People who tend to fail in advancing their own lives are the ones constantly seeking permission from others. Can we break open this idea that you need the approval of other people to kick some assets? It's really important to release this need for approval and validation. You'll be surprised at the many ways you ask for permission every day. It's not always as direct as waiting for likes and hearts on social media, or waiting for someone to acknowledge your work.  Do you ever find yourself asking: Am I acceptable? Is this good enough? Do I fit in? Will I fit in? Will I ever be good enough? People who don't advance rely too much on other people for their level of self-care, for permission to be happy, to understand the level of success they should or should not achieve. I've talked about this a bit before when I mention those unspoken rules from childhood that we carry around with us. They might be things like, if you're successful, no one will really love you. It's selfish to make money. Until we really examine those unspoken rules, they can get in our way. And let's be honest, seeking a gold star – whether it's from a friend, lover, or colleague – means you probably aren't focusing on what you're here to do.  Let's really talk about the fact that you aren't focusing on what you are here to do if you're seeking other people's approval.  Noticed the people who've really succeeded, whether it's in your industry or anything else, like health or romance. I want you to really step back and think how often did they seek permission from the world?  Here's the deal, the masses aspire to mediocrity. Let that sink in. The masses aspire to run home and watch Netflix as fast as possible. Let me get out of my company pants and forget my thoughts, forget my dreams, and forget my ambition. I just want to watch Netflix, and we become numb. That's what the masses do. One of my favorite quotes is, “it takes nothing to lead an ordinary life.” Nothing. It takes nothing to hit the snooze button instead of a workout. That's easy. It takes nothing to watch TV instead of writing that book you've always wanted to write. It takes nothing, but it costs you everything. We want to look at who you're asking permission from and why are you seeking permission? People who really expand themselves and really live their lives on their own terms don't limit what they think is possible based on how many other people agree with them. That's where the power is, where all the magic of life is. I want you to think about your life right now. Think about all of the times where you have blown your own damn mind, and I bet you it was not sitting on the couch watching TV. I will bet you it was not hitting snooze. I bet it was the time you were uncomfortable, and you pushed forward anyway. It was the time when you set a goal you didn't know how you were going to achieve, and you did it anyway. It was the time when you worked harder than you thought you ever could, and you still had energy. This is your vision, is your dream. This is your idea. Get started! What the hell are you waiting for? You have permission. Give it to yourself. Get uncomfortable and do the hard things. Let's get to it! Sarah has been in the personal development space, empowering women around their bodies and spirituality and empowerment and feminism for 12 years. Today, we're talking about marriage.  Sarah discusses her fear of outgrowing her husband because of the personal development work she was doing, while he was staying stuck. She dispels the myth that she could do all the work for both of them. In talking about the need for both partners to do inner work and work on their marriage, she explains its not just about the marriage but also about not undoing all the inner work women do for themselves.  We talk about an imbalance of money and how that affects the dynamic in a couple along with other antiquated ideas about marriage that people often get stuck in. We talk about:  Rethinking how we think about money, including spending and who has the right to it Our partner not being the problem, the marriage being the problem Creating new agreements and dynamics and standards for how you show up with each other in your marriage Why both partners need to be invested at the beginning of a marriage course Different ways to talk about wanting to do this marriage work How conflict shows up in our other relationships and our bodies BIO Sarah Jenks is the mother of three, a woman who has struggled with body image and lack of direction, and someone who knows what it's like to feel flat, overwhelmed, frumpy and exhausted. Through her own transformation and years of study in the Sacred Feminine, emotional eating and life coaching, she has been guiding thousands of women for over 10 years through the process of remembering their brilliance and their unique mission in this lifetime. LINKS https://sarahjenks.com/ Living in Your Box with Sarah Jenks It Only Takes One with Stacey Martino Doable Changes from this episode: ADDRESS “I CAN'T AFFORD IT.” If you find yourself saying, you can't afford something that might shift your personal experience, like working on your marriage or getting a babysitter so you can have conversations, look at where you are spending money. Start with a list of recent purchases and monthly expenses. Consider whether you could afford something that could make a real difference in your life. RETHINK WHO MAKES MONEY. If you fall into the paradigm of one person making the money and thus having control over the money. Start to factor in the value of the work done by the partner who makes less or no money. Start to factor in how taking care of the kids, driving them to school, being home at night with them helps the other person make money. Start to shift the paradigm. SAY WHAT YOU NEED. If you are unhappy in your marriage, if you want to work toward change, say how you feel and what you need. Sarah talks about a few different ways she tried this conversation and acknowledges that she had to say it several times before it sunk in or connected. If you aren't ready to say it, think through what it is you need to say.

As you get more intimate with your cycle and the rhythm for you, then you can have those moments where you are by chance out of sync and bring yourself back to homeostasis because you know how to take care of yourself through your rhythm.  –Lena Dolter On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I’m really excited to talk with Lena Dolter, about getting in flow with our own cycles, yes, those cycles. We’re talking about our monthly cycle, periods, and how to lean into them and plan with them instead of work against them.  It starts for many of us with periods being something we don’t really talk about. There is a disconnect between the information we are given and what we experience in our own bodies, and in some cases, like Lena’s, that disconnect can lead to a disconnect from self. So connecting with your cycle and to what is happening in your body is first off a reconnection to self.  One of the biggest mistakes we make when it comes to overwhelm and planning is assuming we have the same energy all month long. We don’t. There’s a part of the month we have more masculine energy (external, productive drive) and a week to 10 days of internal energy We talk about:  To start to learn about our own energy, we can ask these questions: How do I feel physically? How do I feel mentally? How do you feel emotionally? How do I feel spiritually? How our internal energy days are still productive they just look different and if we make space for them they can actually be quite creative Recognizing that painful periods and PMS are not normal, though we’ve been led to believe they are Having an inner rhythm, whether you get a period regularly, irregularly or not at all, and using the moon as a guide Encouraging our daughters to embrace their cycle and power BIO Lena Dolter guides women to reconnect with their deepest self-trust so they can honor what they need without guilt or shame. If you are a woman who wants to stop working against herself, who is open to connecting with her body to support her in life, healing, and accessing her highest self, Lena’s work is for you.   LINKS www.lenadolter.com https://www.facebook.com/groups/570522799777930/ MENTIONED LINK Moon Rythmn on PlanSimple  Lunar Abundance with Ezzie Spencer Living in Your Box with Sarah Jenks Intuitive Tools with Sarah Walka Doable Changes from this episode: PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR ENERGY. Regularly ask yourself these questions over a 3 month period: How do I feel physically? How do I feel mentally? How do you feel emotionally? How do I feel spiritually? Start tracking your answers. Overtime can you notice patterns? GO INWARD. What happens if you don’t try to keep pushing when your energy tells you otherwise? What if you allow yourself to clear your schedule? What if you allow yourself to rest or get more support? Notice what happens to your energy, your creativity, and your productivity. PLANNING BASED ON YOUR CYCLE. As you gather more information about your cycle and your energy, start using this information in your planning. Block off the days when you anticipate being lower energy or more inward focused. See what happens when you plan around giving yourself what you need on those days. Are you less overwhelmed because you fit projects into days when you have the energy to do them? Do you get more done because you make space for creativity? Do you feel more in flow?

Weekly 3 for Moms — Planning Your Week

We have different energies at different times of year, at different times of the month, at different times of the day.... Every day can look a little bit different and you can start to learn what that might be as you’re planning in advance. On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I’m so excited to talk about planning your week, and the weekly 3 for moms. As I get ready for another year of FLOW 365 and prep changes for the next round of the FLOW Planner, I’m thinking a lot about how I plan and why it matters. I am also gathering as much of the science behind planning as I can.   As we shift into summer, I’m thinking about setting up for a summer that feels good for my whole family. I recently did a whole series on summer planning. If you missed the planning sheets, you’ll find the link below.   Planning the summer can help you have the summer you want, but it’s important to think about each week too! I’ve been reading Michael Hyatt’s Free to Focus, and I really recommend it, but … there’s a lot of masculine energy around it. Based on my own experience of finetuning how I plan and helping so many women plan their days, weeks, and seasons to get more of the life they want, I’m sharing some of his ideas with my own tweaks.   Planning Your Week Steps First, I’ll say that I love to plan on Fridays. Michael Hyatt says he usually plans on Friday, Sunday, or Monday morning. For me, Friday works best. It gives you the weekend to prep for the week and set up and support you need.   Find your magic momentsMichael talks about wins, but in the FLOW process, we find the magic moments each day—in all the areas of our life. Review your weekAnalyze how things went. See what you can learn. Get curious instead of judgemental. Again, look at the whole picture of your life—your work, your family, your food, your self-care ... Make a master listMichael talks about reviewing your list and notes. This step in the FLOW process is Masterlist. It is therapeutic to get everything out of your head onto paper. Plus once things are on paper, you stop using up brain space holding on to it and you have it in a format where others can see it, whether for accountability or support or whatever. There’s also another step that matters—a process for reviewing that list and crossing things off or saying no to things that don’t serve you and your goals right now.   Check your goals, projects, events, meetings, and deadlinesWe’ll talk about how Michael presents this … and a more female version based on different types of cycles.     Set your 3 Big RocksOne of the key things here is to remember that some of your big 3 might be about work, but some might be about family or home. We set ourselves up for more success and feeling better when we look at our life as a whole. That also means leaning into our own cycles of when things get done. Plan your rejuvenationThis is step 6 for Michael, and it’s an important one. For me, there is certainly a need to plan for rejuvenation—in the FLOW process, there is a whole strand called OM, which is about spirituality and self-care and downtime. But part of the planning process is also about understanding the ebbs and flows of your energy, throughout your day, your monthly cycle, or the seasons of the year.   I really loved reading Free to Focus for the process, but also to really highlight for me some of the ways that my FLOW process really fits for women and moms. I love seeing what happens when women embrace the planning process and get the support and accountability they need to make big changes. And those changes are so different—getting a huge project done or getting more sleep at night have big impact. I’ve interviewed four of the amazing women from FLOW 365, and you can hear their thoughts on the process and program and the changes they implemented! The next cohort of FLOW 365 starts in August! Want to join us? Also coming up soon: An amazing new master class An updated FLOW Planner A sale on the old FLOW Planner (numbers limited) If you aren’t on our email list, join to make sure you get updates on all this good stuff! Take time at the end of the day to find your wins. Key piece of this doable change: look at all aspects of your life. Calling your mom or snuggling with your baby count as much as signing that new client. Look for little moments and big that were sins for the day. NOTICE YOUR ENERGY. Our energy changes throughout they day, throughout our cycle each month, throughout the different seasons of our year. Planning based on your own energy cycles is smart, but the first step is starting to notice your own energy patterns. Just notice your energy throughout the day. Are there times of ay you have more energy or feel more creative or contemplative? Are there specific routines or activities that drain you? How does your energy feel throughout the week? Where are you in your cycle? Track your energy to see what you can learn about your own rhythms. As you start to see patterns, you can adjust your planning.   SET YOUR BIG ROCKS. Does your planning for the week start out with a list of appointments and meetings and places your kids need to be? What happens if you start with the 3 big things you want to focus on and fit other things in around it? Look at your week. Block off time for your three big rocks—the 3 things you most want to move forward. Then start to fit in other projects and responsibilities. You may find things you need to leave out or adjust or ask for help to make things work around your big rocks, but by putting them in there first, you get them in.

Our soul actually longs to turn in at this time. – Kim Marie On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I’m really excited to talk with Kim Marie, a transformational life coach who creates an amazing journal this time every year. If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, this may sound familiar, because I had her on last year. At the time I had just discovered her journal, but hadn’t had a chance to use it. Now that I have, I wanted to have her back on to talk about it again, because it was so transformational for me last year. For years I had embraced the idea of getting quiet and sitting by the fire and writing during the holidays—and then I saw something Kim Marie posted about using this time for journaling in a very powerful way.   The Sacred Nights Journal focuses on the period from December 24 to January 6. This process being open to everyone; even though the sacred nights fall in the Christian Christmas and Advent season, they are also tied into winter solstice and changes in the natural world and light. The process helps move us away from the hustle and bustle and consumerism of the season and extend the magic. Kim says, “I realized not only was this beautiful tool for quieting myself and really gleaning the wisdom of my own inner self during this time but, it became like a guide book, like a map for my life in the coming year and that what was incredibly powerful to me.” We talk about: The power of waking up and remembering and recording your dreams Connecting with your journal every day, even if you just jot down one thing—how whatever you write down, even if you don’t understand it at the time, gives you guidance in the coming year The 12 virtues, or practices, associated with the months, like courage Finding our truth in the world and recentering Creating rituals during this time of year, lighting candles, reading stories, slowing down Taking the responsibilities and the commitments you have and weaving them in with intention around what you’re trying to create during this time of year. Taking space for sacred time for yourself even when your family is around Kim Marie is a Transformational Life Coach supporting her clients to awaken their inner wisdom and transform their lives. Through her powerful programs and courses, including Mother’s Medicine, Wisdom Rising, and her forthcoming online group coaching program, Awakening Wisdom, Kim supports women to remember who they are, reconnect to what matters most, and rebirth themselves into the life of freedom they envision. She is the mother of two teenaged boys. LINKS https://kimmariecoaching.com/sacrednights/ Navigate Your Year with Kim Marie Sacred Nights Community Planning Food for the Holidays Living in Your Box with Sarah Jenks Doable Changes from this episode: JOURNAL DAILY. Write down one dream or even part of one. Jot down a word or phrase that sticks with you even if you don’t know why. If you have time, write more, but make space to write something every day. Kim Marie’s Sacred Nights journal does an amazing job walking you through a thought process for the 12 days after Christmas, but you could simply reflect and journal on your own if that’s what feels doable to you. CREATE A RITUAL. Create a ritual that slows you down at this time of year and moves you with intention toward the feeling and kind of space you want. That might mean lighting and Advent wreath or eating dinner by candlelight. It might mean taking time to read holiday stories or have five minutes of quiet together near the fire. Choose a ritual that speaks to you and make space for it. SET AN INTENTION & CREATE A PLAN. This time of year can easily fall into chaos. There is so much to be done and so much external pulling us to buy and eat and drink and do. Getting really clear on your intention and how you will make it happen is the first step to holiday season you love. And this can happen, even in our real, busy lives. You can take the responsibilities and the commitments that you have and weave them with intention around what you’re trying to create during that time of year. Give yourself a little quiet time to journal about what you want and how you can make it happen. Then schedule things—or schedule white space—so that you have it going forward.

The journey can feel very long and mundane but, it’s so worth it in the end.– Lisa Marie Grantham On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I’m really excited to talk with Lisa Marie Grantham, a coach and spiritual teacher and the founder of the School of Magical Living. She considers herself a student of life is is passionate about so many things. She discovered coaching and loved it, but burning out turned her to start her online business. She had three small kids when she started her online business journey, and today is an empty nester. She divorced and moved and felt like she was starting over at 49, but now finds herself in a sweet spot in her life. Thinking about the quote “magic is the new yoga,” she discusses her interest in the divine. Her’s how she explains it: “magical living is working in alignment with universal law, in alignment with your deepest desires and intentions, and co-creating with the divine. That’s basically magical living in a nutshell.”  We talk about how magical living is part of your OM, and how to fit that into your own FLOW system. We talk about: Bookending your day (starting and ending with a sacred practice) The divine coming to each person in the way that is right for them and how to curate your own spiritual practice Realizing that our kids can do things for themselves and to help around the house—and that they need to to become self-sufficient Having things around, like crystals and essential oils, that help keep you on track and surrounding yourself with beauty Making the mundane, magical (even laundry) The matrix of the elements fire, earth, air, and water and creativity BIO Lisa Marie Grantham is a business coach and spiritual teacher. Lisa Marie starts and ends her day with prayer. You might choose to meditate, light a candle, express gratitude. You could say something like Lisa Marie does, “ Thank you for this day. Thank you for using me in the highest way possible. I’m done. I’m outta here.” It doesn’t have to be a big, long practice. A few minutes—or even a few seconds—can do a lot. Choose a simple OM practice and start and end your day with it. ADD MAGIC TO THE MUNDANE. There are things we have to do that feel mundane—laundry, paying bills, making dinner. Try adding magic to these things. Add essential oils when you wash clothes to help you stay present when you fold them. Light a candle and enjoy a glass of wine when you pay bills. Shake off your bad mood before you start cooking dinner. INVOLVE YOUR KIDS. If you have babies, this may isn’t the doable change for you right now, but tuck it away. Help your kids learn self-sufficiency—and help yourself stop feeling like you have to do everything. Give kids a task appropriate for their age. If they haven’t done it before, you’ll need to teach them. They could set the table, fold laundry, make dinner (or at least the salad), wipe down the counter, sweep the floor … there are lots of options and what they can and do do will change over time.

Choose a boundary that feels really luscious and feels really nourishing and feels really exciting. Don’t choose the boundary that feels like it’s punishment. I’m back again with my friend and former business coach, Megan Flatt. Today is a lesson in Plan B. Normally we answer questions from listeners, but the system to take questions got hacked, so we’re going to dive into talking about boundaries this week and get back to your questions next time. Boundaries came up last week when we were talking about systems and support, and it’s a great topic to go deeper with. Being a mom and being an entrepreneur are both 24/7 roles. You don’t clock in or out of either role, which makes it really easy to start feeling like you should be doing something as a mom or for your business ALL the time. That’s just not sustainable. That’s where parameters and boundaries come in. Megan shares how she uses a guiding word to help set boundaries (right now she’s working with abundant ease). And we discuss how having boundaries provides structure—and more actually gives you more freedom. We talk about: Creating a meal rhythm and how I actually ate more variety within this structure Decision fatigue and how to cut down on decision making The importance of setting work hours (even if they change week to week) Creating work blocks and using them to shift tasks and restructuring our time to be more effective Using boundaries to make conscious decisions and be in charge of your day (even when it’s messy) Working with our own cycles instead of thinking things have to be the same all the time (or that our work days and weeks have to look like anybody else’s) Have a question for Mia and Megan?Go to plansimplemeals.com/ask. Set up one week of meals with your rhythm and add any ingredients you need to your shopping list. Look to see how your rhythm can help you move forward, (e.g., you can chop veggies for soup and your lunchtime salad at the same time). SET WORK HOURS. Pull out your planner or a week calendar page and block off your work time. Think about what hours work for you to work—that might mean when you are most productive or when you have childcare or something else. Don’t judge yourself or think you should work certain hours. This week, hold yourself to those boundaries and see how it feels. TRACK YOUR CYCLES. Start noticing your energy levels throughout the month (your personal cycle). Pay attention to your energy and interests throughout the year. Instead of judging your reaction when you seem less productive, just notice and record. As you get more in tune with your own rhythms, you can adjust your schedule to better suit you.

Once you realize that something is not serving you in any way that's joyful or helpful …, then you can start to release it. But until you're ready, this practice won't call to you.   – Vanessa Gobes On this episode of the Plan Simple Meals Podcast, I'm really excited to talk with Vanessa Gobes, co-founder of The Chrysalis Center, about transformation. We talk about the huge transformations she made in her own life and why she started the Chrysalis Center. We talk about meditation as a tool that can change your brain (and your life), but only if you are ready. If you aren't ready to give up the stories that aren't serving you, if you can't let go of your own bullshit, then this practice won't help. But if you ready to change, it's a powerful tool. Another strategy Vanessa offers is being with what is. She talks about being in the mud, and how if we get curious and explore that feeling of not wanting to be in the mud, we can come to a greater understanding. We tend to want to fight against being in the mud, but we can learn so much and change in good ways if we can be in those tough situations. We talk about: Stripping out what doesn't serve you and following joy Different ways to practice meditation and why 10 minutes a day can change you How chakras fit in with meditation Trusting that things will work out and that we will have what we need when times are hard Cultivating relationships with people we can turn to when we need them Setting yourself up for success with the right transitions—in meditation and life BIO Vanessa Gobes coaches women and men through the darkest parts of parenthood (and life) with humor and humility, demonstrating that even the worst challenges can be viable paths to healing, insight and joy when approached with curiosity. Before you start to meditate, simply observe your surroundings. Give your kids notice that they need to get ready (if you know it takes them 20 minutes to put shoes on, start them on that early). When you schedule things on your calendar, be realistic about transitions. MEDITATE. Even 10 minutes a day can make a huge difference. Check out the brief meditation Vanessa did with us in this show, or use an app like Insight Timer to help you develop a practice. I like to meditate first thing in the morning, but find the time that works for you and write it in your calendar. GET CURIOUS ABOUT DISCOMFORT. We will all be in situations that are uncomfortable. Instead of fighting against them, try just getting really curious about how it really feels, what we don't like about it. We can choose to change, but first we need to see where we are. REALLY getting healthy as a family can be a big lifestyle change. But no matter how insurmountable it may feel, focusing on one doable change at a time can help you take small steps toward your big goal. A healthy lifestyle is really made of lots of little things that when repeated regularly and added together over time make a huge impact on your life. Choose one Doable Change every Sunday night — one thing that you are willing to play with for the week. The key is to keep it doable and fun!
