Uresti who had just won the PGA National Championship Tournament the week before came out to the Buda Bogey Classic and spent several hours meeting players, shaking hands, and posing for photos. Episode 36 – To many, Jake Akers did not have a “Snowball’s Chance in Hell” to lead a productive life, much less an accomplished one. Jake's teachers continually telling him he would not amount to much, coupled with multiple back injuries, doctors said he would never walk again, Jake had a choice to make. He could accept what his teachers and doctors told him, or he could do whatever it took to prove them wrong. In this podcast, Jake tells his story. With the support of loving parents and the Buda community, he beat the odds. Drawing from his Hispanic heritage from his mom's side, Jake developed a strong work ethic and learned about flavors, foods, and spices. Jake’s dad taught him perseverance and the sense of determination to succeed no matter the odds, and the importance of always helping those in need. After being told all his life he did not have a Snowball’s Chance, today, Jake Akers owns a small, shaved ice business named “A Snowball’s Chance.” His story does not end there. Episode 35 - Deputy City Manager Micah Grau talks about why Buda is pursuing certification as a Dark Sky Community from the International Dark Sky Association as an affirmation of the City’s efforts to reduce light pollution and to protect one of our greatest natural assets, our night sky. The City’s Sustainability Commission is leading this effort to provide more educational resources on dark skies to the community. The City Council recently adopted changes to the City’s lighting regulations in support of this initiative.

Inspired at young age to become a Doctor, Candace focused her energies and studies and accomplish her goal. For most people, a rewarding and successful career as a physician would be enough, but not for Bellamy. With a passion to explore her creative side, Dr. Bellamy would put away her stethoscope at the end of the day. At night Candace would pick up a microphone and transform into jazz and soul singer. Recognizing there was still more she wanted to in life, Dr. Candace Bellamy is currently working on a film documentary that should be complete in 2021. For Candace Bellamy achievement is status quo.

Episode 19 - As part of a county-wide collaboration, Hays County is establishing the Emergency Cash Assistance Program (ECAP) grant fund, which will disperse $600,000 to local businesses. The ECAP Fund is designed for those small businesses located in Hays County that are struggling to sustain operations due to the COVID-19 health crisis and were unable to secure assistance via the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) loan through the CARES Act or the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program through the US Small Business Administration.
