These good things stuck on top to change the way their business built their brand. Dave’s team had used breakdowns for future breakthroughs and attacking those gaps and optimizing themselves for better. When something holds you back to step up during this crisis, start with the story that you believed in but don’t forget to check if it’s credible. Put yourself into a mindset that you’re not alone to try new things. You’re not going to be alone pushing yourself into something that makes you uncomfortable.  Do what you don’t want to do and make a breakthrough from that. With the new and unexpected things that come on your way just be agile and move faster. We all struggle but it’s just the willingness, to be honest with our struggle we are able to afford the opportunity and gain empathy from the people. Take this time the inconvenience of the quarantine as the thing for us, use the time to think about what are the pieces of normal that are actually worth rushing back to. Give the gift of clarity of what things to focus on or need to let go of.  Currently, Dave and his team are taking the steps to meet the audience and bring the world-class conference in your living room (The Rise Conference).  Doing a live stream event is the thing that their team swore not to do but now with this chaos, they would do the things that they don’t want to do to reach the audience and support the learning of the community they’re building on. Some Questions I Ask: How would you rate your overall temperature, mood, and mental perspective on everything that’s going on right now as 10 being extremely optimistic & excited and 1 being doomsday? (00:35) How does somebody right now get out from being paralyzed by fear, resistant to go all in this aspect of life, procrastinating, but take this potentially once in a lifetime opportunity and turn into something? As a former foster parent herself, Susan knows the hardship of caring for children in the foster care system and understands the need for community support.

DONATE TO HOUSTON ANGELS IN HONOR OF NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH 10 years ago, Susan was selling homes and working as a corporate trainer. Around this time, she sold a home to a woman who was a CPS worker, who invited her to a foster and adoption conference. Susan attended the conference and after hearing a judge tell a particularly impactful story of two boys who grew up in foster care, she leaves that conference feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders... she felt like God was telling her that creating change for foster care was now her burden to bear. So the next few years, she and her volunteer group would help to throw fun service events and provide extracurricular activities for children in foster care. But as great as they were, she realized they weren't life-changing. They needed to get to the root of the problem if they were going to truly prevent these kids from just ending up as another statistic. Susan spent the next 5-6 years building Austin Angels and piloting the Love Box Program, in which volunteers put together a "Love Box" of items tailored to a foster family's specific needs. But at the end of the day, it wasn't about the stuff - it was about the real, lasting bonds that were forming. It was about the lives being changed as a result of community, consistency, and intentionality. A few years later, Austin Angels' programs were successfully launched in Amarillo, TX. This eventually led to the creation of a national organization with chapters opening up in major cities like DFW, Cleveland, Seattle, and many more all across the country - including yours truly here in Houston. One of my FAVORITE times of the year! *cue the confetti because it’s going to be a party up in hurr* If you’re not familiar with it, Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving that promotes a day of charitable giving. JD and I are involved with a few charities and one of those is Austin Angels. Austin Angels is an organization that walks alongside children in the foster care system and their families. Recently, I had an opportunity to speak to each of the national chapters of the Angel organization about using social media to connect caring and amazing donors to children who need help within the foster care system. Chris, Carlos & Drew talk about the feedback they received regarding the MIX. The MIX is a monthly event Chris organized and Drew and Carlos co host with him. It’s an interactive experience with music, live art and fashion connecting business with the local art community. This months event was hosted at Wonder Bar Austin’s first insta worthy bar. This place is Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory except instead of candy it’s alcohol beverages. For every MIX we also raise money for Austin Angels. Austin Angels is a nonprofit that supports foster care families. It’s a party with a purpose. Participating businesses were Microsoft, Ann Web, FRSCKO clothing, and PrimeMyBody. Microsoft provided a VR station as well as some swag. Ann Web provides mini facials and skin consultation as well as some free product. Mari of PrimeMyBody provided us with Recept CBG samples. FRSCKO brought out their recent clothing line. AUSTIN ANGELS Founder and CEO Susan Ramirez is so passionate about the children in the foster care system. She started out just volunteering and loving on kids in the system and that transitioned to an organization that has now been nationally recognized. Austin Angels partners with families that are fostering, they are intentionally engaging in relationships with kiddos and family to show love and support. This is key because fostering a child can be so isolating and being a foster child is SO difficult. So imagine these kids who have been removed from their lives now in a new place but being loved on, supported, encouraged and given monthly gifts. As an adoptive mom and a friend to many foster mommas I ADORE this program! Susan and I met in the spring at the RISE conference put on my Rachel Hollis.
