The Sports Experience Podcast with Chris Quinn and Dominic DiTolla
Episode 290 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're continuing our block on some of the NFL's best postseason games of all time.In this episode we're discussing the 1983 NFC Championship between the Washington Redskins and the San Francisco 49ers.Expectations were high for a game which featured the Super Bowl champions from the previous two seasons.Washington dominated the first half of play with their defense, and led San Francisco 7-0 at half time. The lead could have been bigger had kicker Mark Moseley not had an off day.Washington took a commanding 21-0 lead by the time the third quarter ended thanks to a touchdown run by John Riggins and touchdown catch by “Downtown” Charlie Brown. At that point, all appeared lost for the 49ers until Joe Montana led a furious comeback. In just over eight minutes, Montana threw three touchdown passes to tie the game with 7:08 to play.Washington then went on a drive which lasted 6:12, and were assisted by two controversial penalties by San Francisco's Eric Wright and Ronnie Lott.It all came down to Moseley, who had missed four field goals in the game, to make a 25 yard field goal to put the Redskins ahead 24-21. Moseley drilled the kick and Washington was off to Super Bowl XVIII in Tampa.Connect with us on Instagram!Chris Quinn: @cquinncomedyDominic DiTolla: @ditolladominicProducer: @ty_englestudioInstagram: @thesportsexperiencepodcastIf you enjoy this podcast, please help support us @:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-experience-pod/support#sportspodcast#comedypodcast #washingtonredskins#sanfranciscofortyniners#nflplayoffs

In the Winter of 1995, the former leader of hip hop's most notorious group, N.W.A., lay bed-ridden, pale, and connected to all manner of life-saving devices and fighting for every breath. At the time, Eazy was on top of his game when, seemingly out of nowhere, the iconic rapper developed a cough. At first, Eazy was diagnosed with bronchitis-related asthma and sent home three days after seeking medical care. The prescribed drugs didn't help. On February 24th, he was admitted to Cedars-Sinai to undergo extensive testing. The lab results shocked everyone, from fans to foes. Eric Wright was dying of AIDS. Within a month, the music mogul and rap pioneer would be dead. Only, the story doesn't end there. As we approach 30 years since the death of Eazy-E, questions remain. How did he contract AIDS? Why did he perish so quickly from a condition known to result in a slow demise? Could foul play have been involved? And what's the story behind his death-bed wedding to girlfriend Tomica Woods, and his much debated last will and testament? Hyperscale-inspired technology is everywhere in enterprise IT, from Kubernetes to S3 to OCP, but these technologies may not be applicable. This episode of On-Premise IT features Cloud Field Day 18 delegates Allyson Klein, Eric Wright, and Nathan Bennett discussing the cloud gap with Stephen Foskett. Looking at AI, we see a very different deployment model in hyperscale cloud as opposed to enterprise cloud, with this gap in technology, implementation, and talent widening. One impact of the needs of hyperscalers is an increased focus on sustainability, specifically energy consumption. We should also consider how the hyperscale use case distorts the development of technology, which is obvious in CXL, GPUs, and networking technologies. Looking at Cloud Field Day, we see that many of these companies are attempting to bridge this gap, connecting hyperscale cloud technology to the enterprise. This is what makes the event so interesting! © Gestalt IT, LLC for Gestalt IT: Mind the Gap Between Hyperscale and Enterprise IT

Enterprise IT is constantly oscillating between centralized and distributed, and we're currently in a period of repatriation of workloads from the cloud. This episode of the On-Premise IT podcast features three delegates from Cloud Field Day 17, Joey D'Andoni, Eric Wright, and Jason Benecicic, discussing the reality of repatriation of cloud applications with Stephen Foskett of Gestalt IT. Pundits constantly tout the money they save by repatriating from public cloud, but this might not be the best choice especially for smaller organizations. The only way to ensure functionality between on-prem, hybrid, and public cloud is to use them and use each where it is the best solution. Repatriation is especially challenging for today's SaaS-oriented businesses, since most of these solutions can't be run on-prem. But even workloads that can be run outside the cloud will likely require re-architecting to run locally. Yet many companies are developing software to ease the transition to and from the cloud, and these make it much easier to repatriate. © Gestalt IT, LLC for Gestalt IT: Cloud Workload Repatriation is a Real Problem

Former professional American football player who played safety for the Toronto Argonauts in 1978, the San Francisco 49ers from 1979 to 1985, and for the Indianapolis Colts in 1986.A four-time Pro Bowl selection from 1981 to 1984, Hicks was a key player on the 49ers dynasty in the 1980s, assisting his team to NFL Championship wins in Super Bowl XVI and Super Bowl XIX. In the 1981 season, Hicks led the NFL in interceptions (9) and return yards (239), and went on to make a big impact in the Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals. After the 49ers lost a fumble on the opening kickoff, the Bengals had a great scoring opportunity and drove to San Francisco 5-yard line. However, Hicks made a clutch interception to prevent the Bengals from scoring. His interception set up a 49ers touchdown on their ensuing drive and helped San Francisco build up a 20–0 lead at halftime, eventually winning the game 26–21.Hicks arrived with the 49ers merely by happenstance. Hicks was one of a bevy of defensive backs used by the 49ers during the 1979 and 1980 NFL seasons. Before being signed by the 49ers, John Facenda noted in a team highlight film that Hicks was "Managing a health food store" in Detroit. Hicks, who was interviewed for the America's Game episode focusing on the 49ers Super Bowl XIX champions, notes that Facenda was wrong. Hicks was simply working in the stock room of a health food store at the time of his signing. Only 25 years old, Hicks found himself suddenly the veteran leader of the 49ers secondary in the 1981 season, when the 49ers decided to rebuild their defensive backfield through the draft. Playing in only his second full season, Hicks was considered the leader of a secondary that also featured rookies Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright and Carlton Williamson. The young, but hard-hitting secondary would affectionately be known as "Dwight Hicks and his Hot Licks".[citation needed] Despite this lack of experience, the 49ers defense ranked among the best in the NFL and spurred the 49ers on to a surprising victory in Super Bowl XVI.Hicks was the Defensive Captain of the 49ers team that won Super Bowl XIX following the 1984 NFL season. Following a last-minute defeat to the Washington Redskins in the 1983 NFC Championship Game, Hicks delivered an impassioned speech to his crestfallen teammates, asking them to "Remember the feeling." Buoyed by Hicks' speech, the 1984 49ers rampaged through the season, finishing with a 15–1 record and breezing through the playoffs en route to a 38–16 victory over the Miami Dolphins in the Super Bowl.
