This episode of https://Drive-Radio.com - The Extra Mile takes you behind the scenes of the automotive industry, exposing some of the most common dealership tactics, financing tricks, and repair shop myths drivers encounter when buying or maintaining a vehicle. John Rush and Luke Cashman break down a viral “40 Dirty Lies Car Dealerships Don't Want You to Know” video, separating legitimate consumer concerns from outdated internet misinformation while offering decades of real-world automotive experience. From emotional car-buying traps and hidden financing tactics to extended warranties, trade-in negotiations, and dealership add-ons, the episode delivers practical advice designed to help drivers avoid expensive mistakes. John explains why focusing only on monthly payments can quietly cost buyers thousands, why consumers should never surrender their keys during negotiations, and how negative equity can keep drivers financially trapped for years. The episode also dives into modern vehicle maintenance realities, including transmission service myths, brake inspections, oil-change intervals, fuel injector cleaning, and the growing complexity of today's engines. You'll hear honest discussions about which maintenance services are worthwhile, which dealership upsells deserve skepticism, and why quality diagnostics matter more than scare tactics. The hour closes with discussions about ceramic coatings, paint protection packages, certified pre-owned inspections, and the importance of understanding exactly what dealerships are and are not providing when they market premium services. Throughout the show, John reinforces Drive Radio's core mission: helping drivers make smarter automotive decisions, protect their wallets, and avoid costly surprises down the road.

Why does fixing your car seem so expensive, and is repair truly a better value than buying new? In this episode of https://Drive-Radio.com The Extra Mile, John Rush pulls back the curtain on the true cost of auto repair, drawing on decades of industry experience. Listeners will discover how understanding what's behind each repair bill can help them make smarter choices about maintaining or replacing their vehicle. From oil changes that aren't “cheap” anymore to labor rates that include more than just wrench time, John explains what actually goes into every repair bill. What are non-billable hours, and why do they matter? Why can't a reputable shop quote you a price over the phone? And how do insurance requirements, training, certifications, and a growing technician shortage drive prices higher—often out of customers' sight? John also tackles parts quality, warranties, and why OEMs are really assemblers relying on vast supply chains. With new cars averaging around $55,000, John walks through the math of cost per mile and explains why many drivers are choosing to invest in the vehicles they already own. Is chasing the cheapest repair really a deal—or a risk? This episode challenges assumptions, explains the economics behind the shop door, and helps drivers make smarter, more confident decisions about repairs versus replacement.

It is ingrained in us as Americans that we all have rights which cannot be violated. Our culture has grown accustomed to individuals and groups demanding and defending their rights and all sorts of movements have sprung up over the years to fight for civil rights, women's rights, LBGQ rights, children's rights, worker's rights, prisoner's rights, disability rights, etc. all of which want to be treated equally and fairly. It seems that we all have an inordinate concern for our rights and are quick to stand up for them when we feel like they are being infringed upon. So much so if the justice system—which God ordained to uphold and protect the rights of its citizens—fails, some feel justified in taking the law into their own hands and correcting the perceived injustice by unleashing their vengeance and punishing whoever committed some crime against them or a loved one or some other innocent victim. But in this text, Jesus illustrated FOUR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS He expected His followers to forego for the sake of representing the gracious spirit of our King and His gospel. What sets citizens of Christ's kingdom apart from everyone else in the world is we do not have any personal vendettas. And when we are provoked, mistreated, or our rights are violated, we not only refuse to retaliate and give people what they deserve, but we go the extra mile and humbly, selflessly, sacrificially, generously give them what they don't deserve.

From the high-stakes world of classic car restorations to the overlooked financial impact of everyday accidents, this episode reveals how easily car owners can be misled. Why do some restorations lose money? When does originality matter more than perfection? And how can documentation alone increase your car's value overnight? Burke shares insider knowledge from elite appraisal circles and behind-the-scenes insights from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center, revealing the meticulous craftsmanship that sets true collector cars apart. But the biggest shock may come after an accident. Most drivers never ask about diminished value—and insurance companies aren't rushing to tell you. Encore Presentation from February 7, 2026. Drive Radio: The Extra Mile pulls back the curtain on what really happens after an accident—and why so many drivers unknowingly leave thousands of dollars on the table. Host John Rush is joined by Burke Payne (https://www.bpautoappraisals.com/), who explains how insurance valuations often fall short, especially for total losses and diminished-value claims. Are computer algorithms and rushed settlements quietly costing you money? And why are middle-of-the-road daily drivers sometimes hit harder than classics or exotics? Burke walks listeners through how total-loss valuations work, why direct deposits can lock you into a bad deal, and how invoking the appraisal clause shifts the battle away from the car owner and onto an expert who understands the system. The conversation then dives into diminished value—why a perfectly repaired vehicle is still worth less the moment an accident appears on its history, and when it's worth fighting back. The hour wraps with a candid look at the classic and collector car market, including insights from recent auctions, shifting demand, aging collectors, and why waiting too long to sell can erase real value. From estate planning to insurance coverage to smart timing in a volatile market, this episode asks a critical question: do you actually know what your vehicle—or collection—is worth right now? If you've ever been in an accident, own a specialty vehicle, or expect to inherit one, this is a must-listen.

In this episode, we're doing something a little different. We're recording together from the car for episode two of our Car Chats series… slightly unhinged, a little all over the place, but still packed with the kind of conversations we know you actually need to hear. And today, we're diving into a concept that has shaped so much of our growth over the years… the idea of “overpaying” in your business. Not just financially, but with your time, your energy, your willingness to go further than what feels normal. We're sharing real stories from the early days… shooting weddings for next to nothing just to build experience, saying yes to everything, investing in education, and the moments where we overpaid without a strategy and saw nothing from it.Because here's the truth… overpaying only works when it's intentional. We also get into what this actually looks like in practice. The small details that elevate your work. The opportunities most people pass on. The difference between playing the short game versus building something long-term.And the honest conversation around what we would do differently if we were starting again. This episode is part mindset shift, part reality check, and part encouragement to stop doing what's normal… and start doing what actually moves the needle.Because the people at the top? They didn't get there by doing the bare minimum. This episode was sponsored by Wanderlust Videos, use LEVELUP100 for $100 off your first edit at https://www.wanderlust-videos.com/And thank you to VidFlow for sponsoring today's episode. Towing seems simple—hook it up and go—but what if that mindset is exactly what puts drivers at risk? In this episode of https://Drive-Radio.com – The Extra Mile, John Rush breaks down the realities most people never consider before hitting the road with a trailer. Are you relying too heavily on manufacturer ratings without factoring in real-world weight? What happens when your truck, brakes, tires, and suspension are all pushed to their limits at once? And could your setup—without you realizing it—be one bad gust of wind away from disaster? From understanding trailer types like bumper pull vs. gooseneck, to choosing the right vehicle, to mastering the art of backing up, this episode uncovers the fundamentals every driver should know—but few actually do. You'll also hear critical safety insights on weight distribution, sway control, braking systems, and proper hookup techniques that could prevent costly—or dangerous—mistakes. Think you're ready to tow? Or could a few overlooked details make all the difference between a smooth trip and a white-knuckle experience? This episode might just change how you look at towing forever.

This week on The Back of the Pack Podcast, we settle back into a more normal Monday after finally putting Tokyo in the rearview mirror. We open with a few updates from around the Kansas City running community, including a heartfelt recap of Scott's Extra Mile and the incredible turnout for a run honoring the memory of Scott Green. From there, we also look ahead to the Run the Rainbow Marathon in Jackson, Mississippi, where rising temperatures could make for a tough spring race day. But the heart of this episode centers on a controversy that lit up the running world after the New York City Marathon lottery results were released. We break down the now-deleted viral post that suggested slower runners, charity runners, and lottery runners were somehow less deserving of a place in a World Marathon Major. From a true back-of-the-pack perspective, we dig into why that mindset misses the entire point of what makes running special. We talk about the value of charity runners, the dedication it takes for runners of every pace to reach a marathon start line, and why speed alone does not determine worth in this sport. We also explore how major marathons like New York are built on more than talent alone, with fundraising, community, personal transformation, and inclusivity all playing a massive role. This episode is a defense of the everyday runner, the charity bib runner, the lottery hopeful, and anyone who has ever wondered if they truly belong in this space. We make it clear that the running world is at its best when there is room for everyone, from the front of the pack to the very back. Along the way, we also reflect on why harmful elitism still stings so deeply when it shows up in a sport that is supposed to bring people together. If you have ever felt looked down on, underestimated, or dismissed in running, this episode is for you.

Modern engines are more powerful, efficient, and technologically advanced than ever before—but are drivers unknowingly setting themselves up for expensive repairs? In this episode of https://Drive-Radio.com – The Extra Mile, John Rush takes a deep dive into the technology behind direct-injection (GDI) engines and turbochargers, explaining how modern vehicles squeeze incredible power and efficiency from smaller engines. John walks listeners through the evolution of fuel systems—from carburetors to throttle-body injection, port injection, and today's direct-injection engines that inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber. While this design improves horsepower, fuel economy, and emissions performance, it also introduces new challenges—especially carbon buildup on intake valves that can impact performance as early as 40,000–60,000 miles. Why are many drivers never told about the maintenance these engines require? John explains how top-tier fuel, shorter oil change intervals, high-quality filters, and proper additives can dramatically reduce long-term problems. He also reveals why neglecting maintenance on modern engines can lead to drivability issues, rough idle, reduced fuel economy, or costly repairs. The episode then shifts to turbocharging, explaining how exhaust-driven compressors force more air into an engine to produce greater power. But with turbochargers spinning at up to 250,000 RPM and operating under extreme heat, proper lubrication and maintenance become even more critical. If you own—or are thinking about buying—a modern turbocharged or direct injection vehicle, this episode offers practical insights that could save you thousands of dollars and extend the life of your engine.

In this episode of The Building Bigger Lives Podcast, Michael and Kathryn discuss the concept of "essentialism" and the importance of slowing down to think and make meaningful decisions. The idea originates in the book "Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less" by Greg McKeown.    Essentialism emphasizes the importance of simplicity and clarity in communication. Kathryn and Michael explore how people often go beyond what is necessary, either through excessive preparation or detailed explanations, which can obscure the core message. The conversation touches on the need to distinguish between tasks that require extra effort and those that simply need clarity. They also discuss how simplicity can lead to freedom and efficiency, both in personal and professional settings. The key takeaways included the importance of self-reflection to streamline processes and the concept of going the "essential mile" rather than the "extra mile." How often do car buyers get fooled by a deal that looks just a little too good to pass up? In this episode of https://Drive Radio.com – The Extra Mile, host John Rush and co-host Luke Cashman take a deep dive into the hidden world of automotive scams—and the costly mistakes that even experienced buyers can make. From fake online listings and cloned auto-parts websites to counterfeit products and payment app fraud, the conversation reveals how scammers exploit urgency, emotion, and the promise of huge savings. Have you ever seen a car priced thousands below market value and wondered why? John explains how scammers copy legitimate listings, mimic trusted websites, and push buyers into quick deposits through platforms like Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App. The discussion also uncovers lesser-known risks: title jumping, salvage titles, mismatched VIN numbers, and the dangers of buying vehicles or parts from out-of-state sellers without proper verification. Even something as simple as installing a used engine or transmission can turn into a financial nightmare when labor costs pile up and warranties disappear. Why do so many scams succeed? What psychological tricks do scammers use to rush buyers into bad decisions? And what simple checks—like verifying VIN numbers, researching websites, or trusting your gut—could save you thousands of dollars? If you've ever searched for a used car, auto part, or online “deal,” this episode will make you think twice before clicking buy now.
