Donna is feeling a little under the weather, but she is going to power through it. First up, long time listeners of the pod will know that Caddy and Donna rarely drive anywhere together in the same car. Finally, we get some insight as to why. Caddy has been decorating the studio to get ready for their big YouTube live debut. Here the latest and greatest on how that's going. Alan Jackson is going to be a grandfather! Find out what his grand baby will be calling him. Jamey Johnson updates, too. It's a country music heavy episode! And last, but certainly not least, Caddy and Donna pay tribute to Jay Grover, a dear friend who recently passed away. They attended his funeral this weekend and had a chance to reflect on some of their best memories, including – yes – the now infamous wet t-shirt contest years ago at Country Fair. And, as it turns out, the WINNER of that contest recently messaged Caddy on social media. He reads what she had to say live on air. Any ideas for Caddy on what to deck the studio out with? We're all ears. Text or call 770-464-6024. We'd love to hear from you.

Cue the song 'On The Road Again' Since last week's podcast Katie and Howard met in person for the first time in nearly two years. They were guests at Betley Show and Country Fair in Cheshire. As ever things didn't go to plan, as if there was a plan in the first place! Also in Shackbaggerly 25: Howard's mum has a lunchtime treat, Katie meets identical twins aged 10 and 8! and the British weather plays havoc with Blueberry Jam. All these things sum up why this podcast is called Shackbaggerly - an adjective to describe 'anything left in a loose, disorderly manner,' not dissimilar to the conversations between friends Howard Middleton & Katie Johnson. Feel free to get in touch - podcast@theshackbaggerly.co.uk we'd love to hear from you. In this week's episode of Teeing Off, our hosts revisit the vaccine debate after receiving some feedback from our listeners (1:25). The moral component becomes the hot topic of discussion (4:48) as we again ask, "Do we really care about our neighbor?" T's experiences have led him to deal with intrusive thoughts that compound his mental illness and question everything about society (8:30). It has motivated a desire to live away from humans and Saif questions whether he brings it on himself (13:21). Big shout-out to Country Fair for doing nothing and being a microcosm of everything wrong with T's hometown (15:39). Our hosts re-iterate their love for the listeners and that they do not support violence (17:24). Thank you for tuning in and giving us your continued support. Born April 21st, the youngest of three boys, Colin Amey hails from Dunnville, Ontario but spent most of his childhood in Whitehorse, where the cold Canadian Yukon did nothing to cool his driving passion to be a singer and songwriter. At a young and early age, Colin's early influences came from listening to the radio and watching the hits on MuchMusic, where the performances of Bryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen inspired his young heart. In the small town of Marmora, Ontario, at the Country Fair, three-year-old Colin Amey won Second Prize in the Annual Junior Talent Show, giving a heartfelt rendition of 'Delta Dawn'. He continued to enter local and regional talent competitions, usually placing first, hands down. When the family moved and settled back in Ontario, Colin began a stretch of singing demos and jingles in a small studio, then released his first single in 1988, a pop power ballad “Gonna Last Foreve”, with a video to follow that received national airplay. The stage was set, and he began writing material to record his first CD, released a few singles that received some airplay and started on his way to being hooked on songwriting. Colin eventually teamed up with the legendary Barry Brown (formerly of Family Brown) to collaborate on his second album, gaining radio recognition with two singles that included the title track 'What My Heart Don't Know' and 'If I Didn't Call It Love'.This radio awareness of his career garnered Colin two nominations that included Independent Male Artist and Rising Star at the Canadian Country Music Awards.Looking for new direction, Colin moved into the Greater Toronto Area, and began collaborating with Thomas Wade, Jamie Warren and also with Brian Allen who co-penned the hit song, 'What About Love' for the American Rock band, Heart. Colin continued to co-write with the likes of Dean McTaggart, known for penning the hit song, 'Birmingham' performed by Amanda Marshall, and songwriter Tim Taylor, who's written many hits with and for the likes of Aaron Pritchett, Gord Bamford & The Road Hammers, just to name a few. The year 2006, brought the release of his third album 'Getaway' produced by award winning producer, Rick Hutt, with credits for his work with Tom Cochrane, Northern Pikes, Gil Grande, and Jamie Warren. The "Getaway" record spawned half a dozen radio singles, including the title track, which was added on medium rotation at many major market radio stations nation wide. Over time, Colin continued writing with good friend, Thomas Wade and sang on numerous demos and recording projects, which eventually led to the formation of "Wade Amey Wade." In November 2011, they released the Christmas single, "I Can't Wait for Christmas" and donated all download sales to the Sean Hogan's Christmas Wish. In 2012, when Wade Amey Wade disbanded, Colin was free to pursue his solo career once again. In 2013, Colin released a 5 song EP, entitled "Just Do What You Do" which included a remake of the mid 80s hit from Kim Mitchell, "Go For A Soda" which coincided with a video released to Youtube. Over the past several years, Amey has been releasing singles to radio and iTunes, including "Sunday Drive, Drinkin' Time”, “A Million Tears Ago”, and “Welcome To the World" which happens to be a very personal song about the very day his daughter, Ryleigh was born. With the current global pandemic, like many other artists, Colin is performing online shows on Facebook Live, and currently gearing up to release a brand new single cowritten with Hamilton guitarist and band mate, Darren Lachance. The track is entitled “Life Goes By” and will be going to radio in early July of 2020. https://colinamey.ca/https://www.facebook.com/ColinDAmeyhttps://www.allmusic.com/artist/colin-amey-mn0001936210https://twitter.com/colinamey1?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthorhttps://www.instagram.com/colinamey1/?hl=enhttps://music.apple.com/us/artist/colin-amey/83934322https://open.spotify.com/artist/67irjD3ABHK8fvIqnr4Ugp
Isn't it amazing how quickly the world has changed? Erin and Nicole reunite after Erin's cruise (!) to reconnect with each other and connect with you. They realize that in crisis comes clarity; and when you are feeling like crap doing things for others is the best way out. Trying to see the secret silver linings in all the madness, Erin Hatzikostas and Nicole Licata Grant sit down for another 'How Was Your Week?' episode, to help each other and, hopefully all of you, navigate these difficult and confusing times. Erin asks Nicole to explain from her expert viewpoint on the front lines of crisis now and in the past how she approaches a situation of this scale. And here's the punchline: follow your gut and instinct to combat uncertainty, but ensure that every movement matter and has purpose. Also, letting go of guilt and shame. In a global pandemic, with a lack of products in supermarkets, Nicole orders a pizza and finds handy napkins to replace the missing toilet paper - so remember to support your local businesses, you might even find/repurpose some handy survival gear in these trying times! Erin tells some vacation stories, from when she was away and only semi-aware of the unfolding events. She talks about suffering some toilet-paper-trauma at a water park. Her advice? Never, ever, give in to peer pressure if your gut says no. And all Nicole's mom needs to "keep on cookin'" during this time is a half-gallon of "Auntie Arwen's Ultimate Garlic Insanity" from a stand at the Country Fair last year. Hooray for internet shopping and home-based business! Erin truth-tells about the effect this pandemic is having on her business, and how she's adapting to that, and finding inspiration to use her skills to help people at a time where a lot of people will need help. This leads to a deeper conversation on the economy, how businesses are coping and changing in general, and the innovation that can come from hard times. Nicole talks about her proposal to get extra funding, when called into a meeting and given on the spot instructions to come up with a game plan. They end with a not on how to work together with your boss or your employees. They help you see that your relationship with your boss should be less of a one-way street than you realize, but rather a yin & yang relationship. Everyone needs helps and advice and guidance. Especially in times like these. Stay safe, stay sensible, help each other out, and we will get through this. Together. My guest for The Happy Hour #143 is Angie Smith. Angie is married to Todd Smith, of the Christian group, Selah, and mom to five daughters. In 2008, the Smiths received news that their 4th daughter, Audrey, would not survive, and Angie began blogging as a means of communication with friends and family during those difficult days. Angie now writes books and Bible studies, and teaches around the country, but the heart of her ministry is the same as it was when her fingers typed the very first words on her blog years ago: Angie's greatest passion is to make the Bible feel accessible and relevant and to encourage others in their faith journey. Angie holds a Master’s Degree in Developmental Psychology from Vanderbilt University and is a best-selling author of multiple adult and children’s books. She and Todd (and their house full of daughters) live in Nashville, TN. I have known and loved Angie for a few years now and am way overdue on having her join me on The Happy Hour. In today's conversation, we talk about the loss of her newborn daughter just hours after she was born. She writes about her story in her book, I Will Carry You, which will captivate you from the very beginning. And finally, we talk all about Compassion International and the trip that I am able to take with them to Kenya. If you're not familiar with Compassion, they are an incredible organization offering child sponsorship all over the world in third-world countries. Angie and I have both been supporters of Compassion for a long time, and we're excited to introduce you to them and good work they are doing. For just $38, you can change a child's life forever - offering them all of their basic needs, education, and access to the gospel. This week the guys talk about recent acts they've seen, carnivals, hitchhiking, a harrowing tale of being three wide in a S-10, Cheers and Michael Keaton. Gustav starts off the episode with a field report about the Steve Martin and Martin Short show he recently saw, as well as comparing and contrasting it to the John Cleese and Eric Idle show from earlier in the year. Heavy talks about his anniversary date to go see the Drive-by-Truckers at the Granada with a stop to see Chef Rob before the show. The boy's lament missing the Old 97's Country Fair this year with a hint of remorse about last year's County Fair and the lost episode. Ty tells about his most recent use of Craig's List to unload tickets to the Fortress Festival. Fair talk leads to carnival talk as the guys remember winning roach clips and age inappropriate mirrors from the carnies. Gus tells a freak show story and recalls being stuck when a ride broke. The ever present theme of the freedom and inherent danger of a kids life in the eighties presents itself once again. Heavy tells the story of a little traveling Mexican Circus he took his family too after church one day. The traveling life opens the question of taking an RV across the country. RV travel naturally leads to talk of train hopping and former railroad man Pappy Longmire. Ty has a great story of how his friends in college hopped a train and ended up in a very uncomfortable situation and found themselves three wide in a S-10 pickup. That story leads to more hitchhiking talk including a tale of Point Break Dave from Tell Me Where to Turn Podcast fame. Ty and Gus engage in Michael Keaton talk with a focus on Night Shift, Mr. Mom and Birdman. Heavy can't help himself and makes a Gung-Ho joke in hopes of derailing the conversation. While remembering the eighties, the guys talk MASH and Cheers. Gus is dying to talk about Beyond the Valley of the Dolls but has to explain to Heavy who Russ Meyer was so that goes nowhere. Ty has an idea for a premium content episode about Three's Company. So send us your emails of carnies, hitchhiking and your own three wide tales to canyouhearmepod@gmail.com Join us on our sub-reddit for Can You Hear Me Follow us on Twitter @canyouhearmepod @realgustav @tywebb3000 @longmireheavy Find us on Tumblr and Instagram @canyouhearmepod The post Three Wide in a S-10 appeared first on Can You Hear Me?.

Episode 72—September 30, 2016 Nearly everyday Earth has a close approach with an asteroid. Today host Jennifer Ellsworth explores how NASA scientists find these Near Earth Objects and what we plan to do with them. She also tells a true story about an ant-hunting dog, and reads a prose poem about shape note singing. It's called "#Blessed-Common Ground Country Fair Folk Arts Tent 2016." "...I was there because I was supposed to be there, the next act on stage, following whatever this was, telling a story in the old way as the woman said, which to me just meant I’d rehearsed it out loud in my car on the way to the grocery store, my two boys a peanut gallery in the backseat, and while driving here, to the Fair, instead of listening to NPR..." Grandma, Grandpa and MeTonight I am sleeping over at Grandma and Grandpa's house.I brought lots of fun toys for Grandma and Grandpa to play with.I got to sleep in a big bed all by myself…until it started to thunder and lightning. Then Grandma and Grandpa wanted me to sleep with them, because they don't like thunderstorms. We woke up really early, because Grandma and I were going to make a pie to enter in a contest at the Country Fair. We had lots to do to get ready.First, I helped Grandpa milk the cows. I held the bucket really tight, but the milk spilled a little. Then I went to the henhouse to get some eggs. “Hello, hens!” I said.“Cluck! Cluck!” went the hens. That's how hens say hello, you know. After that, Grandma and I picked blueberries. I filled up my whole basket—well, almost.I had to eat some to make sure they were good enough to put in our pie. Then it was time to make the pie. First, we made the crust. I showed Grandma how to stir up all the ingredients with a big spoon. Then I rolled out the dough. It's kind of sticky, so you have to be really careful. After that we mixed the blueberries with sugar and filled the crust. Then we put it in the oven to bake. Finally, I helped Grandma mix the eggs and milk to make her special cream topping.“Please add lots of my secret ingredient,” Grandma said.“Where is it?” I asked.Grandma pointed to her heart. She told me that lots of love makes a pie taste really good.At last, it was time to go to the Country Fair. Hooray! First, we went to the pie-judging booth to drop off the pie. I carried it the whole way all by myself. Then Grandpa and I played Ring Toss and I won a prize! We went to the Fun House. After that, Grandpa played a game to test his strength. I had to help him a little. Then it was time for the pie-judging contest. The judges tasted all the pies, and I tasted them, too. Guess who won?Grandma! She gave me the blue ribbon for being such a good helper. I told Grandma I knew our pie would taste best, because it had the most love in it.When we got home, we all flew the kite I won. We had a really fun day, Grandma, Grandpa, and me!
Grandma, Grandpa and MeTonight I am sleeping over at Grandma and Grandpa’s house.I brought lots of fun toys for Grandma and Grandpa to play with.I got to sleep in a big bed all by myself…until it started to thunder and lightning. Then Grandma and Grandpa wanted me to sleep with them, because they don’t like thunderstorms. That’s how hens say hello, you know. It’s kind of sticky, so you have to be really careful.

It was at the tender age of six that marked the inception of a true, budding musical artist. That was when AJ Jansen commenced singing and song writing. Since then, having said that, her extensive list of credentials has also surpassed and skyrocketed into a whole new realm in itself. At twenty-one, she was singing to crowds of nearly a thousand and felt most privileged to accept an invitation to sing the National Anthem at The Mohegan Sun Arena Football Game in Uncasville, CT to a group of 4,000 people. It was atthat moment that she knew that music was her passion, in her soul, a part of who she was, and she wanted to share that with others. She adores playing live for the public. Her special appearances have been at locales such as The Newport Blues Café, various benefits, and other well-known country establishments in the area.To recap the last few years, she won Best Female Modern Country Vocalist from the Connecticut Country Music Association (CCMA) back in 2005. Also, in that year, she won Best Recording for her original single, “Moments” which is featured on the CCMA compilation CD. 2006 was also another prodigious year. The Wolf Den at The Mohegan Sun asked her back for five consecutive monthly shows!! It was a dream come true for her to be performing on the very same stage she had seen so many legendary country and rock performers. AJ also attended the national championships for the North American Country Music Association (NACMAI) in Nashville, TN. At the NACMAI Nationals, she won the NACMAI Horizon Female Vocalist of the Year for 2006. That year also marked the year of her much anticipated debut CD, entitled, “This Night Belongs To Me.” The album was released just in time for the summer fair season. The Big E, New England's biggest Country Fair asked her to play six, successive shows where she was able to catch up with old fans, and meet and greet the new ones. Then, in 2007, AJ toured Border's Bookstores, where there was a great turnout of listeners who were eager for more. She happily obliged the patrons' requests for encores. 2008 proved to be a productive and awesome year. AJ was featured on Japanese television on a segment called, "The New York Songwriter's Circle.” Also, in 2008, a handful of New York Clubs booked her, including the infamous, "The Bitter End." as well as in Nashville from Soundcheck to LimelightAJ followed up her debut album with the release of her sophomore effort “Dirty Country” then followed by her third album "Bars, Scars and Old Guitars" She is now in the studio finishing her fourth album entitled "A Country Girl Can Survive" AJ also opened for Phil Vasser, and played regularly at the Mohegan Sun. Along with apearances on the Billy Block Show and Gary Garver's show she is in high demand for her talents. AJ is now in New England and Nashville where she performs all over to Country Music fans and her zeal for singing and song writing is evident in the lyrics, and the melodies that come straight from her heart.

Strip Search is Penny Arcade's reality internet show about comic artists. This comic was inspired by the show's fourth elimination challenge (although it's our first crack at one), which required the creation of a comic using the concepts "Flatulence" and "Country Fair." Needless to say, this isn't intended to demonstate our hypothetical ability to compete. We're two people and we didn't play by the 90 minute time limit. We talk about it more in the podcast. (We're releasing this one now because it's relatively topical; the ones we skipped are still coming) Contained within are Strip Search spoilers through elimination #4 (episode 13), so be sure to watch that far before listening to this one. If you're interested enough in comic making to listen to our podcast, then you'll probably enjoy it.
