Andrew Whitaker is a para powerlifter who began being affected by Perthes' disease at the age of nine. He has bench pressed 227.5kg (500lbs) raw and drug tested at a bodyweight of 110kg. His dream of competing in the Paralympic Games has thus far been dashed by a technicality in the rules about the classification his impairment falls under. Subsequently, Andrew has begun to pursue other competitive avenues and has started chasing the goal of becoming the first disabled man in the UK to bench 250kg.
