This is my most selfish episode. As a former Home Economics teacher, I would always skip Chapter 29 in the Foods textbook on Pies. Why? Because I, Linda Toupin, did not know how to make a good pie crust! So I asked Chatney to help me out. Not only does she make a delicious pie crust she shows us some really cool tricks and tools. Enjoy this great conversation about farm life and pie crusts. Chatney's Pie Crust Recipe 4 Pie Crusts 5 1/3 cups flour 2 tsp salt 2 cups Crisco 1 cup ice water Combine flour and salt. Cut in Crisco with fork or pastry cutter until the dough is the shape of peas. Gradually add water until dough comes together. Do not get too moist, just enough until it pulls from the side of the bowl you can shape it into a ball(s) Bake at 450 for 10-12 minutes. Linda went from milking cows to waiting tables as she worked her way through college where she earned her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in Home Economics and Secondary Education. She taught in the public school system for ten years. During that time, she started her own in-home business and, over the next 38 years, built a multi-million dollar sales organization both nationally and internationally. Linda has trained tens of thousands of businesswomen around the globe in life and business skills. She is the mother of two and grandmother of two.

Common Sense Choices Episode #10. Linda grew up on her family's dairy farm in SE Kentucky and her ‘milking the cow mentality' created a work ethic that was fundamental in creating her own successful in-home business. The first question Linda always asks anyone starting their own business is “Tell me what your parents did for a living?” There is a difference between growing up in an entrepreneurial family and a traditional one (parents worked for other people). She believes that much of the stress of owning your own business lies in expectations traditional people bring into their business. She believes to rally support for your in-home business you MUST treat it in many ways as a Traditional job. A. Green - Activities that DIRECTLY produce income B. Pink - Activities that INDIRECTLY produce income (planning, posting, coaching and communication with team members, customers and potentials) C. RED - Office activities that are secretarial and could be delegated D. ORANGE - Family and home responsibilities E. Blue - Spiritual activities F. Purple - Personal time, activities and grooming G.
