This week, we're tearing up the baseboards and getting funky on the saxophone as Gene HackMarch rolls on with a Coppola classic surveillance thriller that he snuck in between Godfathers. It's 1974's The Conversation, written, directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Gene Hackman, John Cazale, Harrison Ford, Allen Garfield, Cindy Williams, Frederic Forrest, Teri Garr and Robert Duvall. Needless to say, Hackman is terrific at the heart of an essential 70s paranoid thriller -- though is it really paranoia if you know your fears are true? His Harry Caul is a meticulous professional, a cunning and inventive man who is very good at his work having to reckon with the evil that work may bring in to the world. And can even the best spies really tell good from bad when they only have a piece of the picture? It's a great movie, and a first time watch for both hosts. Plus: J Mo's been to the theatre so we've got a full discussion of Mickey 17, and Hayley's finally captured her great white whale VHS tape. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening to our discussion, The Conversation is currently streaming on Criterion Channel at the time of publication (and can also be found in full for free on YouTube). Other works discussed on this episode include E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, When Harry Met Sally..., MouseHunt, Sneakers, Runaway Jury, Enemy of the State, Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, Morbius, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Outsiders, Megalopolis, Dog Day Afternoon, Practical Magic, The Lives of Others, and a last minute Corrections Corner on Crimson Tide. We'll be back next week to close out Gene HackMarch with our monthly canon consideration, as this month we induct The Royal Tenenbaums into the hallowed halls of the pod-canon. It is currently streaming on Disney+, Crave, and Starz. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

In order to create that change, we support them by identifying the pattern(s) and educating them on more effective and efficient movement patterns. Essentially, they are learning something new. By applying three aspects of how the brain learns—attention, emotion, and repetition—we have a better chance of long-term success in this mutual endeavor with our clients.   Host:   After earning a degree in Sociology from Indiana University in 1997, Cindy Williams stumbled upon her calling as a massage therapist and bodyworker.  She completed massage school in Boulder, CO in 2000 and has been actively involved in the profession since that time.  For the last 24 years, Cindy has been in private practice, as well as serving in the education realm as an instructor, administrator, curriculum developer, consultant, and mentor.  She currently works as an author and freelance educational content writer while continuing to support individuals on their healing journeys through bodywork, meditation, and other mindfulness practices.  To learn more, visit her website at www.imaginehealthforyou.com.   Sponsors:   Anatomy Trains: www.anatomytrains.com    Elements Massage: www.elementsmassage.com/abmp   MassageBook: www.massagebook.com

Send us a Text Message. This week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast, I am delighted to welcome Cindy Williams. I wrote about Cindy in my first cruising book, The Joy of Cruising amzn.to/2EAMddF, in a feature called, A Cruising Ministry. I have known Cindy, the epitome of a passionate cruiser, for virtually my entire life—we are related. However, when I started writing my first book about passionate cruisers five years ago, I hadn't seen or communicated regularly with Cindy in decades. She moved away from New York City in her teens, and our interactions became minimal, and then when Cindy embarked on a career with the United States Army, I completely lost contact with her. It was during Cindy's military career that her world traveler exploits began. During those years, Cindy and her husband Ken created an amazing cruising story spanning nearly the entire world. I found out about it by happenstance while I was writing The Joy of Cruising, and Cindy and Ken fit perfectly as prolific cruisers with fascinating stories, and I gladly asked them to be in the book.  Funny story…when I told Cindy of my plan to write a cruising-oriented book, Cindy sent me, unsolicited, an itemized list of hundreds of destinations around the world that she and Ken had visited. Virtually every corner of the planet was represented: every major island in the Caribbean; China; Australia; New Zealand; Iceland; Sweden; Russia; France; UK; Scotland; New Guinea; Chili; Peru; Ecuador; Dubai; Egypt; Israel; Alaska; Hawaii; Cuba; and more!  Today I am excited to share with The Joy of Cruising Podcast listeners, Cindy's reflections on an amazing cruise. An Africa journey is at the very top of my bucket list. It won't match Cindy and Ken's though—a 73-Day Grand Africa Voyage onboard Holland America Line Zuiderdam! The cruise departed from Fort Lauderdale; the entire itinerary is too lengthy to detail, but I can highlight a few stops: Canary Islands; Casablanca, Morocco; Petra, Jordan; the Seychelles; Zanzibar, Tanzania; Mozambique; Capetown, South Africa; Namibia; Ghana; the Ivory Coast; Gambia; Dakar, Senegal. I'll post the complete itinerary in the show notes. Text me!Support the Show.Support thejoyofcruisingpodcast https://www.buzzsprout.com/2113608/supporters/newSupport Me https://www.buymeacoffee.com/drpaulthContact Me https://www.thejoyofcruising.net/contact-me.htmlBook Cruises https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingPodcast-BookACruiseUS Orders (coupon code joyofcruisingpodcast)The Joy of Cruising https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingCruising Interrupted https://bit.ly/CruisingInterruptedThe Joy of Cruising Again https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingAgainIntl Orders via Amazon

Steve picked this week's and it's a classic from 1974, The Conversation. Never before seen by Chris and Dave, this one was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and stars Gene Hackman, John Cazale, Allen Garfield, Cindy Williams, and Frederic Forrest. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, become a supporter. www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesback Plot Summary: "The Conversation" is a gripping psychological thriller from 1974 directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film revolves around Harry Caul (played by Gene Hackman), a highly skilled and paranoid surveillance expert who specializes in audio recordings. Caul is hired by a mysterious client, known only as "the Director," to conduct a covert surveillance operation. As Caul meticulously monitors his target, a young couple named Ann and Mark, he becomes increasingly obsessed with unraveling the meaning behind their conversations. He discovers that they are involved in a potentially dangerous affair, and his sense of responsibility intensifies when he suspects that their lives might be at risk. Haunted by guilt from a past surveillance job that resulted in tragedy, Caul becomes deeply troubled by his own role as a voyeur. As he delves deeper into the recordings, his paranoia grows, and he becomes convinced that there is a hidden message buried within the seemingly mundane conversations. Caul's moral and ethical dilemmas are further exacerbated when he realizes that his work is being used for nefarious purposes. Feeling trapped and isolated, he becomes increasingly suspicious of everyone around him, including his closest associates. In his quest for the truth, Caul must confront his own demons while navigating a dangerous web of secrecy and deception. As the tension mounts, the lines between reality and surveillance blur, leading to a shocking climax that forces Caul to confront the consequences of his actions and the true nature of his profession. "The Conversation" is a thought-provoking and suspenseful film that delves into themes of privacy, technology, and the consequences of voyeurism. It showcases Gene Hackman's exceptional performance as he portrays the complex and tormented character of Harry Caul, providing audiences with a gripping and memorable cinematic experience. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/support

These, along with a "milking the cows" mentality (it didn't matter if you were tired, in a bad mood or a relative had just died, the cows still had to be milked) created strong mental health habits and a solid sense of purpose. Linda went from milking cows to waiting tables as she worked her way through college where she earned her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in Home Economics and Secondary Education. She taught in the public school system for ten years. During that time, she started her own in-home business and, over the next 38 years, built a multi-million dollar sales organization both nationally and internationally. *This episode originally ran in 2016.  When Lucinda Williams was in elementary school, all the other kids brought rock collections and other standard fare to show-and-tell. But she brought a folder. "I put this notebook together of seven poems and a short story by Cindy Williams," she remembers. Decades later, she's still documenting her impressions of the world, now in raw, often mournful songs that explore death, heartbreak, abandonment, and love. Many of her them are based in the American south, where Lucinda grew up—including those on the album The Ghosts of Highway 20. "I know these roads like the back of my hand," she sings on the title track.      Lucinda was close to her father, poet Miller Willams, throughout her life. He encouraged her interest in words and writing, even taking her to visit Flannery O'Connor when she was a little girl. So it was especially hard for her to see him go through Alzheimer's disease. He died a year before our conversation, less than six months after the summer day when he told Lucinda he couldn't write poetry anymore. "I just sat there and just cried," she remembers. "That was when I lost him."  In her sixties, Lucinda says she's more successful than ever, selling out shows on the road and happily in love with her manager Tom Overby, whom she married on stage during an encore in 2009. But, she told me, getting older can still feel like a drag. "I don't like the aging process. I don't like getting older because of all the loss. It just gets harder and harder."    See the video on Lucinda's Facebook page of her performance of "Compassion" at her father's home before he died. Miller Williams reads his poem, and Lucinda follows by singing her musical interpretation.
