TheologE of Sin Part III The Effect and Extant of Sin Part I. The Choices Deuteronomy 30:16-20 Choose Life= choosing to do life God's way Choose Death= sin; doing it my way Part II. The Choice of Death Genesis 3:17-19 The first sin brought a curse upon a perfect world What was meant to be lush, beautiful, productive and perfect was now corrupted with sin. Romans 8:20-22 Romans 1:20-23 The layers of sin that we have added on are like ripples in water that slowly but surely create a tidal wave of death and destruction. The extant of sin is both on the individual and the whole. Judge 2:10-13 They traded the truth of God for a lie They didn't stop worshiping God, they just widened the target. 2 Chronicles 36:15-21 They lost everything! The effect of sin is a slow, gradual process that lulls you into a false sense of security. Part III. The Better Choice Even in a world that is decaying under the effects of sin, we can still choose life. 1 Kings 19:18 The remnant were regular people who refused to bow the knee to sin Romans 5:3-5 When the world is at its worst, we can see God at His best. "Living Beyond the Veil" Melinda Reed - guest speaker Sermon Notes: Luke 23:44-47 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three because the sun's light failed. The curtain of the sanctuary was split down the middle. And Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into Your hands I entrust My spirit.” Saying this, He breathed His last.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. The rending of the veil granted royal access, inviting a life of freedom, fellowship, and a future of hope. The torn veil grants us freedom from yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Hebrews 10:10 By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time. Hebrews 10:19-20 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus— he has inaugurated for us a new and living way through the curtain (that is, through his flesh) Why do we sometimes choose life outside the veil? Comfort Idols Shame Lack of gratitude and wonder Romans 8:1 There is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ. Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ set us free. Reflection: Are you living in freedom or closing the curtain in bondage? Entrance to the Holiest Place brings unprecedented fellowship with God. John 15:4a Remain in me and I in you. We must live beyond the veil: Dive into God's Word Pray at all times Experience God in all we do Always be grateful Reflection: Do you live each day in the Most Holy Place? What one step can you take toward occupying that space? We live beyond the veil with a future full of hope. Hebrews 6:19-20 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer. Reflection: Is your future anchored in the hope that is yours' to receive? For this week: Invite you to take a veil remnant and continue to reflect on these questions: Am I living in freedom or closing the curtain in bondage? Do I live each day in the Most Holy Place? What one step can I take toward occupying that space? Is my future anchored in the hope that is mine to receive?
Esther Worship: It Takes Both 9:20-32 Worship, as a verb, is the act of supremely prioritizing something or someone that I love the most and gives my life its greatest meaning and security I need to keep an eye on the good things in my life that they don't become “god” things. Esther Fearless Faith 4:1-5:5; 7:3-6 Fearless faith requires a fearful situation/opposition (4:10-14) Fearlessly exercising my faith is how I grow spiritually. Fearless faith comes out of me treasuring and choosing Jesus over all other things (4:15-17; 7:3-6) I face this defining decision every day! Fearless faith is NOT foolish faith.
