This episode finds me discussing the not-so-glamorous things that sometimes happen during chases that chasers never divulge to the public.Things like bad driving, bathroom energencies and illegal activities. Strap in and enjoy a behind-the-curtain look into the not so great moments in stormchasing.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
In this episode I dwell on the burnout I experience from chasing too much and from seeing other chasers constantly post images. I also explain why there are no longer "levels" of chasers but just a giant melting pot of cookie cutter chasers whose results all look the same, regardless of skill level or experience.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com

In this jam-packed episode I discuss the pros and cons of chasing day after day, particularly the psychological pitfalls involved. I also touch on making bad reports that turn out to be flase or incorrect, and how it can damage the already-shakey relationship between the NWS/local authorities and chasers making reports. Lastly, I delve into HRRR hatred based on Reed Timmer idolization.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
In this episode I talk about the mental and physical strains of driving back home through the night after chases instead of getting a hotel room. I share stories from my past about some of our most intense marathon, "road warrior" type chases, and discuss the many pros to just getting a room instead. Also, Bridge and I score our first tornado of 2021.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com

In this episode I talk about the (virtual) debut National Storm Chaser Summit. I discuss the overall impression I got as well as the individual presentations I viewed.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
In this episode, I explore my past regarding my favorite restuarant as a kid. I reminisce about what it was like for me as a small child, and marvel at how it hadn't changed a bit as an adult. I also tackle the topic of people on social media who lash out at others who merely post how they're feeling. Instead of support, these people offer criticism and judgement. I go off on that type attitude.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
I talk about the hypocrisy that exists among the ranks of digital photographers. Who decides how much manipulation is acceptable and how much is too much? And when everyone's manipulating their images, does anyone really have the right to point fingers? I also discuss the topic of competitive chasing and ranking yourself as a chaser.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
I discuss the psychology of the chaser and how they are their own worst enemies. Overthinking situations and waivering on decision making are two of the biggest pitfalls to successful chasing. Learning to forecast on your own - and to an even greater degree - learning to TRUST that forecast, is key to hands-on success....both in chasing and in life itself.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
I discuss what I believe to be the most overrated event in chasing. I also lament about the continued total lack of wintery weather anywhere near me.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
I talk about two classic F/EF scale tornado rating case controversies and give my opinion on which way they should go. I also discuss people on social media who "play meteorologist" and mislead people into false security regarding their weather information.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
I discuss everything 2020 transitioning to 2021. Individual perceptions regarding the changing of the calendar year and its psychological effects. American citizens as a whole pulling together to take the proper steps in protecting each other from further COVID spread. The US Government and its seemingly unwillingness to be able to help its own people. Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com

I also share a humerous story about an unfortunate incident with a locked car during a chase many years ago.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
I discuss the differences between the people who make their own forecasts and the ones who simply follow SPC outlook maps. I talk about the new chaser philiosophy of simply reacting to a given bit of data or changes in said data, and compare that to the weather enthusiast who relies too heavily on radar interpretation when making declerations of severe weather in progress. A teachable moment.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
Health and medical experts have been pleading with Americans to not have large gatherings for Thanksgiving fearing the inevitable firestorm spread of COVID-19 that will be created. However, many people have made the choice to put their selfish personal wants and desires ahead of the overall health and wellness of the country they claim to love so much. I call them out for the hypocrites they are. Then I tear into myself for my own stupidity and selfishness as a stormchaser over the years past when I started to believe my own hype and became an entitled jerk. However in my case, I realized what a moron I was being and eventually figured it out.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
In this episode I discuss the often-forgotten importance of the role meals play on a chase. You have to be quick, you have to decide what everyone can agree on and stomach, and you have to make sure none of those decisions come back to haunt you later LOL.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com

I discuss the extra benefits of being a storm chaser, which include all the amazing towns, landmarks and attractions chasers get to see as they roam the Great Plains looking for storms and tornadoes.I also lament about a not-so-reliable ride service that I've had multiple bad experiences with.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
In this episode, I reveal some of the strange things my boss and I do at work to help pass the time. I also give my hot take on the whole Home Owner's Association mentality, and share a story from a friend of karma from the HOA world. Lastly, I give a riveting review of my experience using Dr. Squatch soap for men.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
I recall our experiences running stormchasing tours, and the many pitfalls they held.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
In this episode I tackle the very sensitive topics of diversity and the negative treatment of women in the stormchasing community. There's been much chatter in recent weeks about both the lack of diversity and how some male chasers treat female chasers in the chasing world. After seeing example after example I finally share my thoughts on both subjects.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
On this episode I discuss some of the popular myths of storm chasing regarding how to get started. The flashy vehicles, state-of-the-art equipment & social media following are all great, but none are necessary to becoming a storm chaser.Music provided by http://www.purple-planet.com
In this episode I discuss the disturbing trend of inexperienced people driving to coastlines in an attempt to make money from getting hurricane and tropical storm video. I also deter new people from signing contracts with ENG brokers, and instead to just chase for the love of the game. A controversial take to some perhaps, but grounded in reality.
In this episode I tell the story of my first time meeting chasing legend Gene Moore. Gene is on what I consider to be the Mount Rushmore of stormchasing, and I was fortunate enough early in my career to have been able to learn directly from him. He was no doubt one of the biggest influences on me as a young chaser, and the lessons he taught me are things I still use to this day, every chase.
In this episode I discuss how the classic movie "Jaws" was actually better because the shark appeared lessin the film than originally intended, and how the 1985 NOVA special "Tornado" is similar in that it doesn't include a successful tornado intercept by either team. The storytelling, the directing and the actors/characters make the film/documentary what they are, without the need of a huge "star" making a grand appearance or being a constant player.
For us, chasing back in the day sometimes involved much more than just the open road and the occasional tornado. On this episode I look back on one such occasion, and tell the tale of an early season west Texas bust chase during our rookie year. Between spilled narcotics, having no ID on me and random house parties, it's a small miracle we weren't arrested sometime along that crazy chase-turned-road trip. The moral of the story? Well, chasing is a lot different for me today than it used to be.
After a month-long hiatus, I return to the podcasting world with a head full of opinions and thoughts on various topics in both the weather world and the world at large. I hit on the topics of weather enthusiast over-reaction to events, the casual chaser's lack of commitment to events, how watermarking your work is vital to preventing theft and how not wearing a mask in public places makes you a huge asshole.
Would you be willing to pay for something on ebay you could get for five times cheaper from the original source? A hundred times cheaper? Of course you wouldn't. I discuss such an instance with a story about a friend, who is a chaser video collector, who stulmbled upon such a situation on ebay. This seller has numerous classic chaser videos listed for sale, priced ridiculously higher than they were originally from the actual producers. Not only is this person trying to hijack buyers with stupidly-priced videos, he/she is also using chaser deaths as a selling point to further raise these asking prices into astronimical levels. As my friend says, a "ghoulish" action.
In the continuing Meeting Chasing Legends series, I discuss my initial meeting with chasing legend Tim Marshall, as well as other notable interactions between us over the years. Tim is one of the "Four Hosemen" in my eyes, the Mount Rushmore of influential chasers on my own career.
Now that the 2020 Plains chase season is more or less history, I reflect on the differing opinions floating around on social media regarding the overall disappointment of chasers. I explore the various ways one can choose to view a particular chase year, based on changing your perspective, and apply that philosophy to the 2020 season. We've all had mishaps during chases, but sometimes those little hiccups are just one more piece of bad luck away from being total disasters. I share two stories of near-catastrophic events that happened during chases I was a part of, and how fortunate we all were that things worked out the way they did.
Tornado droughts are probably the worst low in storm chasing. The longer they linger on, the more doubt and pessismism creep into a chaser's psyche, which can even further hinder the chaser's ability to right the ship. On May 22 of this year, we documented a pair of tornadoes in north Texas, which ended a career-long tornado drought for us. However once the drought is over, it ceases to matter. This episode explores the strange dichotomy of emotions from both sides of the drought as it ends. Today also marks the 24-year anniversary of my storm chasing career. Even more special, this year is the point where I have been chasing storms for half of my life. I talk about this chasing milestone and what it means to me.
The world's most unique weather podcast!!!In this installment of the Meeting Chasing Legends series I tell the story of how I met and came to know Jeff Piotrowski. Jeff has been one of the most widely-known and successful individuals in the weather world, having chased and documented hundreds of tornadoes and several tropical systems, including many well-known hurricanes. Despite his Hall Of Fame career in weather, he has remained a grounded, down-to-earth person who has always ben very generous with his knowledge and time, having helped several newer chasers increase their understanding of severe weather over the years.PATREON: http://www.patreon.com/passiontwistvideo
Jim Leonard was and is my storm chasing idol/hero. From the very beginning of my chasing career, Jim was the biggest influence and a constant inspiration. His legendary videos, his kindness and his willingness to share knowledge and experiences with others was just another example of how amazing he was. This episode is all about how I came to meet and know Jim.PATREON: http://www.patreon.com/passiontwistvideo
