The CEO of Christchurch City Holdings has stepped down after just six months following revelations of his past, with one of his former associates expressing shock that Tim Boyd got a Government position of any kind - let alone the boss. Since stepping down it's been revealed the Australian businessman has committed fraud, been charged with drink-driving, faced a restraining order, and still owes millions of dollars. Yet none of this stopped him working as an executive at organisations run by local and national government. Here to discuss is a Businessdesk reporter who helped break the story, Oliver Lewis.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Pattrick talks about NZ's $30 billion carbon emissions "hole". Also, the strange case of Tim Boyd, an Australian who wangled the top job managing Christchurch city's infrastructure despite having some $30 million of unpaid civil judgments against in various US courts dating back over the last decade or so. Pattrick Smellie is the editor and co-founder of BusinessDesk and has reported on the New Zealand economy and business since 1983.

The situation in Texas is so bad, people are boiling snow to get clean drinking water. And according to QAnon, if you find yellow snow, go for it, that's lemonade Trump left there for his loyal supporters. Meanwhile, QAnon is blaming President Biden for the crisis. Wow! They think Biden is president? Finally! As if the disaster in Texas isn't enough, a mayor there named Tim Boyd made a bizarre every-man-for-himself speech, telling those without power, water, and food "no one owes you anything" and "only the strong will survive". Sounds like someone has an underground party bunker! I guess it's true about everything being bigger in Texas-- even the assholes! So he resigned the next day, and asked what he's doing next, he says he plans to run for Mayor of the Thunderdome. Ted Cruz got busted for flying to Cancun during his state's darkest hour, and then lied by saying it was a last-minute decision, even though leaked messages from his wife show they invited friends to join them several days in advance. Which I find very hard to believe. Ted Cruz has friends?? So Senator Cruz is taking heat for his Mexico vacation scandal, but I think we should be more compassionate, guys. He was just seeking asylum-- from his constituents. Oh, I'm getting an update: turns out another reason he was in Mexico is that a tequila factory requested he visit when they ran out of worms. The Ted Cruz debacle gets even better-- a photographer captured a family member they left behind in their cold-ass house when they headed off to Cancun-- their little poodle named Snowflake. In a related story, Snowflake just tweeted that she is now a board member of the Lincoln Project. Finally, while Ted Cruz did next to nothing to help Texas either before or after his vacation humiliation, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez raised $4M in relief funds and plans a trip to Houston. Wow, $4M, that's almost enough to cover one family's electricity bill down there! Plus it looks like her visit may immediately solve the crisis, by melting the snow with her spicy-hot socialism.

Happy Friday Ya'll! This episode I speak about the winter storm that Texas is facing, Douche muffins (such as Tim Boyd, Ted Cruz and Dino Pavoni) and the #FreeBritney movement.
Oh Texass, you always come to the table ready to disappoint - but you do keep electing the same people/same party over and over and over again and expect good results. But it doesn't work that way. When every one of your state electeds are (R) and BOTH of your Senators, also both (R)'s believe insurrection is A okay - they intend to screw you - but you do it any way. SURE Beto *almost* turned you "Blue" And you *almost* went for Biden in 2020. Yet here we are. A CATASTROPHE with Ted Cruz dumping you for Cancun and Mackowiak trying to leave you for Miami and please freezing to death, homes destroyed from burst water pipes, HUNGRY people, lonely people, a virus that wreaked havoc on your state - and here are your Electeds, all snuggled up in the pockets of BIG Fossil Fuel and they are NOT coming to save you. The people YOU elected and PAY are not on their way - in fact they are trying to FLEE Texass - some even got away. Who is coming to help? Mexico is sending desalination vessels to provide you with water EVEN after a wall was built to keep them out. BETO - the guy you did not elect? Making 151,000 phone calls with an army of volunteers to help you connect to the services you need to LIVE. And Beto is standing by you and with you and trying to help and protect you - but will YOU remember this if He runs again - Will the "Always vote R" crowd - because guns and abortion - ever vote for their own self interests and that of their friends and neighbors? And BTW What would Medicaid expansion do for your rural Hospital Systems? 25%+ have closed in recent years because Medicaid expansion *might* give poor women reproductive health care - like family planning advice, cancer screenings, pre and post natal care, STD screenings, etc We don't know Texas, you want to succeed and be your own country, but you can't even deal with a little snow. Up where we live 60" of snow in the last 18 days, sub zero temps over the same period AND -20+ Wind chill factor - yet we have heat and lights and food and our roads are clear of snow. And in the summer? we have 90 - 100 degree temps, but we have AC and lights and no rolling blackouts. Someone(s) Texas has SCREWED you over and it ain't AOC or the not even a real law "Green New Deal" Texas as we would say up here "You have had a Come To Jesus Moment" but will you? www.HeartlandMamas.com#DemCast

First we had Tim Boyd from Sydney, then for our 100th episode we had George Hysteric from Melbourne... now enter Code618 from Adelaide, Australia's 5th largest city of 1.4 million. This guy is a true veteran in the game. Here he shares a document revealing the power of profound underground knowledge and lengthy diggers experience, coupled with passion and technical aptitude as a DJ. A perfect fit for Avenue Red, what a dream of a deep mix we have here from the distant burning lands down under. "Hi! Code618 from Adelaide, Australia here. Techno and house vinyl collector since the inception of the genres 30-odd years ago. DJ'ed regularly from 92-98 when Adelaide played the part of 'Southern Outpost' to the thriving scenes in Detroit, Europe and the UK. Being so far from anywhere and with pre internet communication, a sound and style distinct to Adelaide evolved whilst at the same time inspiration was clearly sourced from Detroit, Chicago, the UK and in particular Dutch labels such as Djax-Up-Beats, Eevolute and Shiver. These days I try and blend the previous 3 or so decades of techno and deep house from an extensive vinyl collection with current tracks and share these sounds on guest radio mixes and for those on the same wavelength. I'm a big fan of the Avenue Red series and with so many amazing producers and DJ's contributing it really is humbling to get the chance to pull together a mix and contribute. For this mix I took my usual approach of selecting new and old tracks for a one take, 100% vinyl session to see where it led. Spanning 1983 to 2019 and elements of house, electro and straight up techno I've added quite a few Australian labels or producers to this one as I'm proud of the output from my country and Adelaide in particular (origin of Juice Records, Undefined Recordings and Nightime Drama). Respect to all of the artists and labels in the tracklist below! P.S. Artwork photo was taken by my wife near our house. We live surrounded by native gum trees and right next to one of Australias oldest national parks... Beautiful area however it is high risk for bush fires. Like the mix, this photo is part of the narrative and story." In this episode with Chef Tim Boyd, we discuss what drew him to the industry, following passion not paychecks, not sacrificing quality, greatness attracting greatness, the dilution of passion with bigger operations, not letting your ego get the best of you, staying focused, having a balance of skill between FOH and BOH, being someones exit strategy, becoming a part of the community, having too many big egos under one roof, defining roles, getting sober, being the average of those you surround yourself with, and picking yourself up when you fall down. Chef Tim Boyd got his start at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. After moving to South Florida and meeting his wife Lara, Tim's resume went from Executive Chef to owner of the well-known Upper Crust. Tim would go on to create Milk & Honey Cafe. Today Tim is the Executive Chef of The Mustard Seed Bistro with wife and owner Lara Boyd.
After a little bit of a pause, the Avenue Red engine is back up and running with a full tank of fuel, ready to churn out more mixes from underground heroes that you likely have not heard about before. This next instalment is a first for us... it took 97 episodes to bring an Aussie to Avenue Red tables, as we welcome Tim Boyd from Sydney, Australia! Here Tim basks in the sunny Sydney weather and takes inspiration from his surroundings to deliver a super hot mix of delicious, deep melodic house music from his very nice and varied record collection. "I got into dance music soon after I left high school. I'm 23 now. I took this year off after finishing Uni to put out some of my friends music on a label I've started called Black Wattle. I have two releases in the works with the first coming out around the end of September. Musically I'm inspired by DJs who play records with passion and take risks. This mix was just one afternoon in my living room in Sydney... I wanted it to be pretty laid back and make people happy and deliver pure sunshine through their speakers/headphones. Here it is, enjoy x" Tim Boyd, September 2017 https://soundcloud.com/timothy-boyd-9
