LaRae opens up about her emotional landscape, providing a personal context for their discussion. As they read through the powerful verses of "Sometimes A Wild God," Scott and LaRae unpack the universal theme of inner wildness and our struggles confronting our battles. On the 77th episode of the What is a Good Life? podcast, I am delighted to introduce our guest, Tom Hirons. Tom is a poet and storyteller based in Devon, UK. He is the director of Feral Angels Press and editor of Clarion poetry magazine. He teaches poetry writing, both online and in person, and runs poetry-focused wilderness fasts. Tom's piece, Sometimes a Wild God, is a subcultural poetry classic. He has never won a poetry prize or been published in a poetry magazine, yet still makes his living from poetry. He says, "I have heard all the terrible news and I have looked into the inferno of the future, but I am still in love with this life." Tom's latest collection, The Queen of Heaven, is out this week.In this glorious conversation, Tom shares his journey of becoming a poet and realising how he can best apply his abilities in the world. We discuss tracking life and threads from other worlds. We muse on balancing our ascending into spirit and descending into soul, while acknowledging the beauty that can be lost if we try too hard. He also notes the significance of wilderness fasting in terms of initiation into adulthood and in knowing and living out his nature and soul image. If you have a gnawing feeling or aching sense that there is so much more to this life than what you are presently aware of or accepting of, this conversation will point to and suggest where to explore, what there is to discover, and what life can feel like from there.Subscribe for weekly episodes, every Tuesday, and check out my YouTube channel (link below) for clips and shorts. For further content and information check out the following:Check out Tom's books here: https://feralangels.com His newsletter here: https://newsletter.tomhirons.com/bear-speaks-to-the-starsHis website: https://tomhirons.comFacebook: https://facebook.com/hironstomInstagram: https://instagram.com/bearspeakstothestars- For the podcast's YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@whatisagoodlife/videos- My newsletter: https://www.whatisagood.life/- My LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-mccartney-14b0161b4/Contact me at mark@whatisagood.life if you'd like to further explore your own lines of self-inquiry or create experiences that lead to more connecting and genuine conversations amongst groups of people.04:00 Becoming a poet and who he is07:00 How to develop for greater benefit to others10:45 Transcendent experiences when connecting to art15:15 Tracking life and the threads from other worlds21:15 The significance of Wilderness fasting and initiation into adulthood27:00 The balancing of soul and spirit of ascending and descending31:20 Marking our steps into adulthood35:00 Cultivating a paying attention to and tracking of life39:45 Allowing space for the non-sacred in creativity44:50 The beauty that can be lost if we are trying too hard50:28 Life force, wildness, and the daemon56:48 The war against the devourer and claiming our birthright1:01:30 What is a good life for Tom?

This is the first of a two-part episode in which I'm joined by poet and part-owner of Hedgespoken Press, Tom Hirons. Tom lives in southern England and while not a nature poet, his work is influenced heavily by the natural world and his experiences in it. In the first of the episodes, we talk about how Tom first started writing poetry, the incredible learning experience that being an educator can be, our thoughts about the merits of finding time in nature even if you don't live in "wild" places and the value of spending time in the natural world as a way to ground yourself in this "Mad epoch" as Tom eloquently puts it. This was an incredibly captivating conversation for me, and I'm glad to be releasing it as a two-part episode, rather than cutting it up into a single shorter one. Look for the second part soon, where we talk about modern rites of passage, the merits of spending structured solo time in nature, and Tom's plans for future guided fasting trips in Wales.  I hope you enjoy the show, and that you'll check out all of Tom and Hedgespoken Press's offerings at the links below. 31. Wild & Sacred: Poems By Tom Hirons

A special diversion from the normal stories this week, we have a journey into the woods for you to read two brilliant poems by Tom Hirons. “Sometimes a Wild God” and “The Worship of Place” both speak to our relationship with nature both in a feral and wild sense as we have, many of us, become domesticated things and also to the awe of the sacred beauty of the world around us. It was an absolute delight to read and perform these poems, and a special thanks again to Tom for giving us permission to read his works! Tom Hirons was born and raised on the Suffolk-Norfolk border in East Anglia, but lived in Scotland for almost twenty years before gravitating to Dartmoor in the Southwest of England. Tom has been storytelling publicly for over 15 years and writing for much longer. He now teaches storytelling for Hedgespoken and has been known to mentor a writer or two. Tom hopes his work provokes you into a deeper relationship with this marvellous world, or sings a remembering song to you, or inspires some kind of cathartic fit that takes you home via the stars… There's much to lament and grieve, and much to be angry about and take action against, but to be alive is an incredible thing. We do not know when death or disaster will take us, so let us live fully while we may and nourish the web of life around us as much as we possibly can. To learn more about Tom you can visit his website at www.tomhirons.com or Hedgespoken Press to pick up some of his works at www.hedgespokenpress.com If you've been enjoying our tales, give us a review on Apple Podcasts and follow along on Spotify! Lift Heavy Run Long Podcast - Inspire. Be Inspired.

https://youtu.be/F0AqqWiAbYE Lift Heavy Run Long® #205, we had the pleasure of sitting down with our friend, Michael Hirons. Michael is a resident of Wynn, Arkansas and an advocate of the trail running community. At one point in time, Michael weighted almost 400lbs before making some changes in his nutrition and buying a bike. It wasn't long before he found himself shedding some lbs and feeling comfortable enough to try his hand at running. After a few 5ks, he had caught the bug. It wasn't long until he complete his first trail run at the Sylamore 25k and decided to put on a race of his own as the Race Director of Village Creek 10K/25K. Village Creek just finished up it's 8th year and the first annual Almira 50miler and marathon will take place on May 1, 2021. We are fortunate to get to spend time with folks like Michael and look forward to many years and many trail miles with him in the future. We enjoyed some great conversation before inevetbly jumping the tracks and veering into ridiculousville... Here is what the LHRL podcast derailed looked like: - Swift n Swole event 2022 - Do you clip tags off ur clothes, bite them or rip them. - Amanda called Grimmace, Hummus off McDonald’s - Ted Lasso - When do you say dinner and/or supper? Mark and I got to chat on his show a few weeks back, and with any luck, these two episodes might go live at similar times... fingers crossed.   For the past few recordings, I've been experimenting with different ways to record these interviews... I'm loving Zoom for the video side, but not loving the audio... so I'm not sure I have this quite nailed yet. But if you'd like to check out the video, that's available over at YouTube.com/joshmiles, and the audio isn't amazing, but sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm video chatting live with a guy in the UK, five time zones away... and that still blows my mind.   SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, Please enjoy my conversation with Mark Hirons...

Rima Staines is an artist, musician and illustrator, puppet-maker, stop-frame animator, clock-maker, theatre designer and one half of Hedgespoken with her partner Tom Hirons.  Tom is a writer of poetry and prose and teller of traditional folk tales.  Together they created ‘Hedgespoken’, a travelling off-grid storytelling theatre run from a 1966 Bedford RL lorry, converted to be a home and a go-anywhere stage.  On one bumper it says ‘Vehicle for the Imagination’ and on the other ‘Imagination, Liberation’.  They travel, present stories, share artworks, having raised the money to convert the vehicle through a crowdfunder. We met one morning at a local café with, as you'll hear, their energetic young son, and over the space of a couple of cups of tea we talked imagination, storytelling, the visual arts and much more.  I started by asking them to tell me more about Hedgespoken, and how, for them, it acts as a focal point for their work around imagination.

Global Product Management Talk is pleased to bring you the next episode of... The Everyday Innovator with host Chad McAllister, PhD. The podcast is all about helping people involved in innovation and managing products become more successful, grow their careers, and STANDOUT from their peers. About the Episode:  The topic of this episode is crisis management — meaning a crisis that threatens the reputation of a brand or product. When a crisis happens that involves a product, the product manager is expected to help with the issues. Also, as you take on more leadership responsibilities, it becomes more likely, if a crisis occurs, that you’ll be part of the team helping to manage the problem. No organization wants to be in a crisis, but when it happens, people who know how to respond are highly valued. To learn more about managing a crisis, I spoke with Jim Parham. Jim is the Chief Operating Officer at Hirons, an advertising and public relations company based in Indianapolis. He is also a lead Crisis Communication Manager and fondly known by customers and employees as the Professor, in part for his deep thinking as well for teaching part-time at Indiana University. He brings a background in journalism and senior leadership of large organizations, including serving as VP of Marketing. I hope you are not involved in a crisis management situation, but when it happens, knowing what Jim shares will help you be proactive instead of reactive.

Rachel Hirons is a playwright and screenwriter who studied drama and film at Kingston University. Her play 'When Women Wee' enjoyed a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival in 2011 and at Soho Theatre in May 2012, receiving rave reviews. Rachel's second play 'A Guide To Second Date Sex' sold out at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012 and transferred to another sell-out run at Soho theatre in London during March 2013. Rachel's screenplay adaptation of the play 'When Women Wee' into her debut feature film 'Powder Room' has been commissioned by Damian Jones Films and stars Sheridan Smith, Jaime Winstone, Oona Chaplin and Kate Nash. Rachel is taking her third play 'Dirty Laundry' to the Edinburgh Festival 2013 at the Underbelly. Dirty Laundry Underbelly, Cowgate 1st- 25th August 21:25 (1hour) 14+ (Occasional strong language and sexual references) Working in a laundrette, local busy body Esther has a largely mundane existence. But not today... Voyeuring through the dirty laundry and lives of her colourful array of customers, Esther and her surprisingly resourceful sidekick, Tristan, become accidentally embroiled within the darkest, juiciest scandal their small town has ever known. Disappearances, suspicious characters and inescapable evidence points to one haunting conclusion and proves madness is closer to genius than ever imagined. Following two previous sell-out Underbelly shows, hit writer Rachel Hirons returns with a brand new comedy, directed by Kat Hoult. This is one not to be missed! What the press have said about Rachel's previous plays: 'Rachel Hirons's script is as sweet as it is hilarious, smartly skewering the follies of modern mating while crafting a delicate and generous romcom at the same time.' **** Time Out '...this is one of the funniest and most honest shows you're likely to see... brilliantly insightful'The Londonist '...crafted perfectly and slickly, mixed with humour... consistently filthy and funny, though it never veers too far from the believable' ***** Across the Arts 'The audience laughs and cringes in equal measure' **** Fringereview.co.uk '...an hour of tightly packed comedy...
