Host Pat Iyer welcomes guests Kenna Morgan and Grace Flack, both experienced legal nurse consultants with over 25 years' combined experience in plastic surgery and postoperative care. The episode dives into the world of plastic and reconstructive surgery, focusing on the expectations, risks, and realities faced by patients and medical staff. The discussion begins by outlining some of the most common, expected complications after plastic surgery—such as swelling, bruising, pain, and numbness—emphasizing the importance of proper patient education and expectation management. Kenna and Grace point out that while these complications are typically normal parts of recovery, it's crucial for both patients and healthcare providers to recognize abnormal signs—like persistent fevers or mental changes—which could signal infections or more serious issues. The conversation then shifts to the legal aspects, highlighting how legal nurse consultants review cases for deviation from the standard of care, especially when unexpected complications arise. Grace shares a real-life example of a client who developed sepsis after her concerns were initially dismissed post-procedure, illustrating how the management—or mismanagement—of symptoms can have serious legal implications. Pat, Kenna, and Grace also discuss potential nursing liability, particularly around failure to speak up or document concerns during procedures, calculation errors with weight-based medications, and issues with informed consent—especially if a surgeon adds a procedure without patient agreement. Additional topics include the complexities of healing (such as keloid scarring), how patient expectations sometimes don't align with outcomes, and the unique risks of pediatric plastic surgery. They also touch on rare but devastating occurrences like operating room fires, sharing a poignant case involving a young child to underscore the importance of safety protocols and clear communication. The episode wraps up with practical advice for legal professionals interested in consulting on plastic surgery cases, along with contact information for Kenna and Grace's consulting business. What you'll learn in this episode on Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong: Real Cases and Risks : Get answers to these questions: What are some common expected complications after plastic surgery? Which complications after plastic surgery might indicate medical negligence or malpractice? How can nurses become legally liable during the plastic surgery process, even if they aren't the surgeon? Why is proper consent so crucial in plastic surgery procedures, and what are the legal implications of unauthorized add-on procedures? How do medication calculations carry liability risks for nurses in the operating room, especially with local anesthetics? Tune in as we pay tribute to the incomparable Roberta Flack, who we sadly lost last month. From her 1969 debut album First Take (featuring Open Studio artist Ron Carter on bass) to her iconic collaborations with Donny Hathaway – we dissect why what Flack didn't play was just as important as what she did. We'll explore how this classical piano prodigy, who entered Howard at 15 and didn't write her own songs, became the Quiet Storm Queen that influenced every soul, R&B, and jazz singer since. You'll hear why her understated yet commanding vocals and that classic 70s kick drum made “Killing Me Softly” a hit, grooving duets like “You've Got A Friend,” and deep cuts that redefined ballads. Join us to uncover the genius of Roberta Flack.

Jeremy Flack breaks down how the steel industry works and how tariffs are impacting it. He notes that volumes are huge to begin this year, and that the U.S. has to import steel to meet our needs. He thinks the Trump administration is more serious about tariffs now compared to his previous time in the Oval Office, and so expects a “higher-for-longer” environment.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

It is Tuesday on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast. On this episode, the RSMS crew discuss a variety of topics and talk to some interesting guests. Unfortunately, the show has to start off with some bad news. Singer and songwriter Roberta Flack passed away at the age of 88 on Monday, February 24th. There is no cause of death known to the public yet, but the “Killing Me Softly” singer did reveal she was diagnosed with ALS two and a half years ago. Our condolences go out to the Flack family and her close friends. She will be deeply missed. A few weeks ago, we lost record producer and co-founder of Murder Inc, Irv Gotti. At first there was no official cause of death but there was mention that he was in a coma due to a stroke. Irv Gotti’s brother, Chris Gotti, revealed that Irv did have a stroke and suffered from diabetes. Chris also said that Irv did not go to the doctor often and did not like going to the doctor which put him in the health situation he was in before his passing. Also, hip-hop icon, the legendary MC Lyte joins the RSMS crew. MC Lyte recently dropped her first album in ten years, and she spoke about the process of recording new music. MC Lyte also spoke about transitioning to voice acting and acting coming from the hip-hop world. All of this and more on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast. We have lost another music icon—Roberta Cleopatra Flack passed away this week at the age of 88. Born in North Carolina, Flack's musical genius was evident early on. At just 15, she earned a full scholarship to Howard University, making her the youngest freshman in the school's history. Though she started as a classical pianist and teacher, her talent led her to jazz and pop, performing in Washington, D.C. clubs in the late 1960s. Les McCann discovered her at Mr. Henry's restaurant, leading to her record deal with Atlantic Records. From there, Flack delivered some of the most timeless and soulful music of our generation. Her hits like “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” “Killing Me Softly with His Song,” and “Feel Like Makin' Love” topped the Billboard Hot 100, and she became the first artist to win back-to-back Grammys for Record of the Year. Though Clint Eastwood's use of her song in Play Misty for Me catapulted her into mainstream fame, her collaborations with Donny Hathaway and others defined the soundtrack of our lives. After being diagnosed with ALS, Flack retired from performing but remained active in philanthropy, supporting music education and animal rescues. Reports say she passed at home, though her manager stated she suffered cardiac arrest on her way to the hospital in Manhattan. Roberta Flack leaves behind a legacy of groundbreaking music and timeless artistry. May she rest in peace and power. For more on her life and legacy, follow @TanyaHollywood and visit @aurnonline. Interview with Maura Pond of Luna Honey Luna Honey was originally formed in 2017 in Washington, DC by Maura Pond and Levi Flack who had informally begun playing together in Flack's basement and set a goal to write an album's worth of music. The pair met Benjamin Schurr (Ruah, Br'er, Nyxy Nyx), founder of BLIGHT.records, when his band Br'er opened a show for Arto Lindsay at the Black Cat and he soon after agreed to record and produce them. When they'd finished recording their debut album, Peace Will Grind You Down, Ben insisted that the pair begin performing live, agreed to fill in temporarily, then became a permanent member along with baritone sax player Madeline Billhimer. The four-piece line-up recorded Peace Lives, a live recording of songs mostly from their first album. Billhimer left the band during the recording of their next full-length album, Ballast. Schurr, who was born in Philadelphia, moved back to his home city in 2019 with Flack following shortly after. Christmas Eve of 2019, Pond's aunt shared she had months to live and asked her to write her some music to help accept her transition, asking that it could be released after her death. Still living in DC, Pond recruited Ben to come down to her house in Anacostia and record an intense week of highly improvised sessions. The two worked around the clock on what would become the fourth album Luna Honey, Branches. After the pandemic hit in 2020, Pond moved back to her hometown of Richmond, VA to be closer to her parents and Schurr followed. All three band members commuted back and forth between Richmond and Philadelphia continuing to write songs. Parables was written during the period of geographic separation across DC, Philadelphia, and Richmond. Three months after moving to Richmond, Pond's mother passed after an over a decade long fight with cancer. In the wake of her mother's passing, Pond had found comfort in the solo work of longtime Swans guitarist Norman Westberg and ended up striking up a long-distance collaboration. Aftermath resulted, a meditation on grief and what is left behind. In 2022, Pond and Schurr moved to Philadelphia, finally reuniting the band within the same city. Re-energized after living through the difficulties during COVID and the past several years, the three began recording a new crop of songs that would make up the majority of Bound, with the goal of capturing the raw, powerful energy of their live shows. Luna Honey's art emerges from the creative tension between the death of the ego and the exploration of the subconscious with the pragmatism and discipline of punching the clock and getting the work done. http://www.lunahoney.com http://facebook.com/lunahoneymusic http://www.instagram.com/lunahoneymusic linktr.ee/lunahoneymusic https://open.spotify.com/artist/3kz45E0sd0kFgZIfQNwm2F https://lunahoney.bandcamp.com/album/bound

Remembering the great Audrey Flack (1931–2024). Earlier this year, I interviewed Flack over a series of interviews before she passed away on 28 June 2024. Audrey was a force, and I hope you enjoy listening to her powerful and moving words. If you want to learn more, I highly recommend her memoir: With Darkness Came Stars: A Memoir (https://www.psupress.org/books/titles/978-0-271-09674-2.html) -- I couldn't be more excited to say that my guest on the GWA Podcast is the esteemed American artist, sculptor, photo-realist painter, and native New Yorker, Audrey Flack. Hailed for her sculptures of divine goddesses and Biblical characters; her paintings evocative of Old Masters that explore the historic subjects but with pop imagery; and abstract canvases, made in the 1940s and 50s, filled with swathes of movement, colour, and vigour – Audrey Flack, has been at the forefront of the art world. Brought up in New York City, Flack studied at Cooper Union and then Yale, where she was one of the only women and was taught under Josef Albers – in the early 1950s Flack found herself amongst the burgeoning downtown art scene, where she frequented the Abstract Expressionist haunt, the Cedar Bar, and hung out with her friends who included Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Grace Hartigan. Audrey Flack knew them all. At the onset of Pop, she turned to photorealist painting, capturing in it distinctively feminist subjects, such as traditional objects associated with femininity and beauty, and then it was to sculpting female archetypes, taking back ancient-old stories steeped in misogynism, and reworking them for a 20th and 21st century audience. Whilst she paints and sculpts – and is in the collections of museums such as the Met and MoMA, – Audrey also takes the role of lead vocals and banjo with her band “Audrey Flack and the History of Art Band”, where she centres her songs around female injustice, the most recent being about the French sculptor, Camille Claudel. At 93 years old, you can often find her wearing t-shirts emblazoned with slogans such as Feminist AF, posing in front of her large-scale works, and wearing sunglasses inside. Flack has written it all down in a memoir – With Darkness Came Stars, one of the most moving, extraordinary books I've ever read. Not just for her artistic insights and incredible first-hand analogies of those who she knew in the 20th Century New York artworld, but, for writing, in such genuine words, the truth of what it's like being a mother, a mother and an artist, and a mother to an autistic child. I was moved to tears a number of times. It made me realise, so acutely, how women and mothers have been treated with such injustice, yet had so much resilience to fight for their voice, their art, their children, and their path. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. -- THIS EPISODE IS GENEROUSLY SUPPORTED BY THE LEVETT COLLECTION: https://www.famm.com/en/ https://www.instagram.com/famm_mougins // https://www.merrellpublishers.com/9781858947037 Follow us: Katy Hessel: @thegreatwomenartists / @katy.hessel Sound editing by Nada Smiljanic Music by Ben Wetherfield
