Today's quote by Alan Alda shares why creativity is so personal. He states:“The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you'll discover will be wonderful. What you'll discover is yourself.” — Alan AldaAn individual's creativity is something they alone can experience. It generally involves getting into a space where others may experience it as ideas; but inside your mind, it is sometimes uncomfortable and can give you a feeling of being "out there"If you can get over the isolation and the feeling of being uncomfortable, your inner space can be quite fun! The time will never be right. That leads to today's quote from Teddy Roosevelt that states:Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.No high quality idea is going to be able to thought through, designed and implemented in a single sitting. This often leads people to put it off because of the perception of "I don't have enough time".Roosevelt's point has merit. You may not have enough time to complete the idea, but let's unpack his process for consideration:1. Do What You Can - at a minimum Capture the idea and general thoughts while it is fresh in your mind. Write down the "why" you thought this was an important idea while the ideas is fresh and clear.2. Where you areThere is no reason you cannot take 60 seconds to dictate your idea into your cell phone right where you are.3. “Creators understand that their emotions are not necessarily a sign of the circumstances. They understand that in desperate circumstances they may experience joy, and in jubilant circumstances they may feel regret. They know that any emotion will change. But because emotions are not the centerpiece of their lives, they do not pander to them. They create what they create, not in reaction to their emotions but independent of them. On days filled with the depths of despair, they can create. On days filled with the heights of joy, they can create.” ― Robert Fritz, The Path of Least Resistance: Learning to Become the Creative Force in Your Own Life Support this podcast
“Creativity is a great motivator because it makes people interested in what they are doing. Creativity gives hope that there can be a worthwhile idea. “If you want creative workers, give them enough time to play” ― John Cleese Support this podcast
Think about this concept for a moment. Have you every had a job that allowed you to play? I am not talking in the off task type of way, but rather in a way that allows you to feel stimulated, engaged and alive? Today's quote by Linda Naiman invites us to examine this idea and she states: “When we engage in what we are naturally suited to do, our work takes on the quality of play and it is play that stimulates creativity.” – Linda Naiman Each of us has a unique set of skills and talents that allow us to accomplish tasks in a way that appear creative, effortless or natural to others. When we are in this zone there is a natural flow to how we approach what we do. Mihály Csíkszentmihályi's work on flow allows us to examine Naiman's quote in a focused way and look for ways to develop it into a workflow. Support this podcast
I hear a lot of my students exclaim that "They Can't" I often respond that it's not that they can't; but rather, they do not like the results of their effort. Today's quote by Chuck Jones lays out the real way to address the concept of I Can't and he states: “Every artist has thousands of bad drawings in them and the only way to get rid of them is to draw them out.” Let's discuss the approach to "I know I can't" and find a way to turn that into "I know I can, I know I can". This month on make a difference, we are going to focus our studies upon creativity and innovation. As I said on the primer I shared with you last week, our society has had to become a lot more creative and innovative over the last 12 months in dealing with the Covid-19 Crisis. In doing so, we have the potential to continue to make a difference if we don't allow fear to reign in our skills. Today's quote by Joseph Chilton Pierce asks that we examine the difference between being creative and living a creative life. He States: There is a big difference between being creative and living a creative life. Being creative is personal and allows me to look at different points of view and imagine change. Until I have the courage to share those thoughts and work on changing things as a result, I am not living the creative life. Support this podcast

This week marks the end of January 2021 and the focus upon choice that we have begun this year. That does not mean we are going to stop thinking about choices, but rather take what we have learned though our reflections and begin to add them to the focus of our study in Feb. Today's quote bring this into focus and helps summarize what to take a way from this months journey . “Your life is a result of the choices you make. If you don’t like your life, it is time to start making better choices.” Anonymous Support this podcast

We are here to make a difference. Today's quote lays out our purpose in a simple no none sense point for reflection: “There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them.” Denis Waitley Support this podcast
How do you define creativity? Our second term for February will be Innovation. I really believe that both of these terms have taken on a new meaning and level of intensity over the last 12 months. We as a society have had to become much more innovative and creative on how we go about our daily lives; be it getting the basics to our home or becoming creative in the manner we handle our workplace, and the stakeholders within it. I have seen many people sharing little "lifes hacks" during this time that have been very creative and innovative in terms of staying safe, working with others and just improving the general conditions we all are facing right now. I want to invite you to share any of these creative innovations with the show. You can do this by calling in and talking about it at (234) 206-0963 and I will uses your call as part of the show to share your idea with others. You can also choose to email the show at: I am looking forward to extending the show through your input. I don't want you to think you have something too simple to offer, quite to the contrary; it is often that simple adjustment you make in your day that makes a difference! We want to share that with others so they can make a difference too. Support this podcast
Today's quote hails from someone I have studied a lot. He is a household name and created one of the moment dominant companies in the world today. He states: “Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” Support this podcast
