Today's meditation comes from The Book Of Philippians in The New Testament and from the writings of Shannon L. Alder, with music by Moments.Passage: Do everything without grumbling and complaining so that you may be like pure, innocent children, shining like lights in the darkness. —Philippians 2:14-15Perspective: Sometimes, it is how you shine in the darkness during other people's misery that is remembered more than anything you could have said or done when you have suffered just as much. ―Shannon L. AlderMusic: “Last Love” by MomentsNarrator: Ryan Phipps
Today's episode is a group session with our guys in recovery from the US, Australia and South Africa. They shared their experiences in relation to two quotes: 1) "Sometimes, it is how you shine in the darkness during other people's misery that is remembered more than anything you could have said or done when you have suffered just as much." Shannon L. Alder. 2) "It's not about being good. It's about releasing good." Craig D. Lounsbrough. Inspirational author Shannon L. Alder said: “There is no perfection, only beautiful versions of brokenness.” That's the truth. All of us have gone through heartbreak at some point, experienced difficult moments, and had dark days we thought would never end. And while our individual life stories may be woven uniquely, we ultimately have the same story elements and patterns such as love lost and found, birth and death, abuse and healing — and the same emotions that come with these experiences. STOP making excuses! Every time you make an excuse, you don’t want it bad enough or you don’t think you are capable of doing it. Before you make an excuse, ask yourself: "How bad do I want it?" How to STOP comparing yourself to others. “Personality begins where comparison leaves off. Be unique. Be memorable. Be confident. Be proud.” – Shannon L. “Heroes are not made. They are born out of circumstances and rise to the occasion when their spirit can no longer coexist with the hypocrisy of injustice to others.” ― Shannon L. Alder They are forged, like a raw piece of iron; in fire, hammered and folded again and again, until the raw material is beautiful, sharp, and useful. But we don’t have to wait until we are forged and made into something new by a circumstance. I mean you can wait around until the right circumstance presents itself, or you can decide that you are going to prepare for a time when a hero is needed to stand up and do the right thing now. It starts by deciding that you are ready to make the world a better place by first bettering yourself. By placing yourself in the forge, to be heated and folded, hammered and sharpened. The really great thing is that you get to be both the raw materials and the Smith! Those considered to be the greatest of Humankind have a few things in common; strength of character and nobility in their hearts. This is where we start, by making sure we have a solid foundation in which to build. “Hide yourself in God, so when a man wants to find you he will have to go there first.” - Shannon L. Today's quote flips that issue around in a great way for reflection: “What if you were wrong? What if everything you ever believed was a lie? What if you missed your opportunity because you didn't know your worth? What if you settled on familiar, but God was trying to give you something better? What if you decided not to go backwards, but forward? What if doing what you have never done before was the answer to everything that didn't make sense? What if the answer wasn't to be found in words, but in action? What if you found the courage to do what you really wanted to do and doing it changed your whole life?” ― Shannon L. “The only real conflict you will ever have in your life won’t be with others, but with yourself.” ― Shannon L. Alder Self doubt is normal and you have to believe that you can accomplish your goal or all the planning in the world may not help you achieve it. This episode goes into how to deal with peer pressure and analyzes quotes by Shannon L. Alder.
Does comparison ever stop? Social media for me has been the space where comparison is at its peak. From the number of likes, to the activities one does and the places they visit... It took me a long time to realize that we are all on different paths. Also, what you see is not necessarily what is going on. Personality begins where comparison leaves off. Be unique. Be memorable. Be confident. Be proud ― Shannon L. Alder Music - Cheza Kama Wewe (Ben Cyco)
“Personality begins where comparison leaves off – Shannon L. Alder. The same drive and ambition that's in the person you idolize is in you, but why are you comparing yourself to him/her? The next episode of the #mmmpodcast will touch on why people compare themselves to others, the mental damage it causes, and how to stop this unproductive process.
Day 18 - The Rewards of the Higher Self “You will never accept gratitude as a solution to your problems, until you have reached acceptance.” ― Shannon L. Alder In today’s meditation, we explore the benefits of living from your higher self. Living from your higher self means your sense of identity is rooted in your inner awareness rather than your separate self, or ego, which is oriented toward objects of perception. The higher self is who we are. It is our self-awareness and so it is always with us. The reward of the higher self is a life liberated from the demands, fears, and limitations of the separate self or ego mind. Practicing gratitude and appreciation helps to keep awareness aligned to the higher self because we remain focused on the unifying and uplifting qualities of consciousness, instead of allowing attention to get trapped in differences. Daily Journal 1. Write about how practicing gratitude has lessened or removed feelings of isolation, stress, under-appreciation, or dissatisfaction in your life. 2. Describe how you feel ego might still be blocking your full expression of gratitude. It could be through feelings of entitlement, envy, selfishness, self-pity, or resentment. 3. Pick one of these ego obstacles to gratitude from Question 2, and list at least two active steps for overcoming it. 4. Use this space to reflect further on your experience today.
Question of the day: If you were less invested in being right and more invested in how you might actually make things right, what would you need to do differently?Quote of the day: “No one is ever a victim of life; we are all volunteering to grow.” — Shannon L. When we make changes in our live’s, the first to feel hurt by them are our family. The first to feel misunderstood is us. How do we navigate this? MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: The 300 Questions to Ask Your Parents Before It's Too Late "If there is no communication, then there is no respect. If there is no respect, then there is no caring. If there is no caring, then there is no understanding. If there is no understanding, then there is no compassion. If there is no compassion, then there is no empathy. If there is no empathy, then there is no forgiveness. If there is no forgiveness, then there is no kindness. If there is no kindness, then there is no honesty. If there is no honesty, then there is no love. If there is no love, then God doesn't reside there. If God doesn't reside there, then there is no peace. If there is no peace, then there is no happiness. If there is no happiness - then there IS CONFLICT BECAUSE THERE IS NO COMMUNICATION!" - Shannon L. Welcome to Sonia's Just Rock It Podcast! She shares in her latest podcast why your Tribe Matters. “Don’t waste your time being what someone wants you to become, in order to feed their list of rules, boundaries and insecurities. Find your tribe. They will allow you to be you, while you dance in the rain.” — Shannon L. Alder Seth Godin’s book, Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us, is a great reminder that we all need a tribe. Human beings have gathered in tribes for millions of years—so this is nothing new, is it? We were born to connect with others. In fact, all of us are social connection machines. What is crucial—absolutely crucial—for all of us to know is that who we choose to spend time with really matters. It really does. Legacy is defined as “a gift of property, as money, by will: a bequest. Anything handed down from the past, as from an ancestor or predecessor.” What have you learned from those who have come before you? From your family, your teachers, people you admire? How do you let that change or influence the way you live your life each and every day? We all will leave a legacy of some kind. Good or bad. And it ultimately is our choice what that legacy becomes. Do we want it to be a legacy of greed and selfishness and materialism? Or do we want it to be a legacy of giving, selflessness and making a differences in the lives of others? What do you want your legacy to be? Start creating it today. Exchange Quotes: “Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.” – Shannon L. “Staying silent is like a slow growing cancer to the soul and a trait of a true coward. There is nothing intelligent about not standing up for yourself. You may not win every battle. However, everyone will at least know what you stood for—YOU.” ― Shannon L. Alder The Basic Difference Between Being Assertive & Being Aggressive is How Our Words & Behavior Affect the Rights & Well Being of Others It is interesting that many people still confuse being assertive with being aggressive. Assertiveness is a behavior or skill that helps you to communicate, clearly and with confidence, your feelings, needs, wants and thoughts, whilst acknowledging the needs of others. It means that you are able to state your opinions without feeling self-conscious, as well as being able to express your emotions openly. Being assertive will enable you to make clear to others how you wish to proceed in all aspects of your life. At the same time you will value others, respecting their right to an opinion as well. Through effective, assertive communication you will be able to express how you wish to move forward. What We Cover In This Episode 3 self-assertiveness strategies to help you reclaim your personal power Way to identify your boundaries Why it's important to be honest The ASSA Conversation Strategy & the Broken Record Technique great for home & work! Shannon L. Alder “One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.” –Shannon L. Alder How many people do you know in life that are doing or being someone they don't want to be. How many are working a career because it's the "Family Business" or because their parents expected them to go into that line of work? Is that you? Did you go to college to be something you didn't want to be, then realize it after you had already started? Are you working a career that you hate because someone else thought you would be good at it? John Lee Dumas, the founder and host of Entrepreneur On Fire podcast talks about his stint in school and business after leaving the Army. His father was an attorney and wanted John to go to Law School. John enrolled and luckily realized into the 2nd semester that he didn't want to be an attorney. John left school to be something he wanted to be, a commercial Realtor. That, too, wasn't for him. Then he became a podcaster. He was in his element at this time. Do you have something you want to be or do? Do you have others that want you to be what they want you to be? You need to follow your heart, your dreams and be the you that you want to be. Don't live a life of regret! [bctt tweet="“One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.” –Shannon L. â??Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.â?? â?? Shannon L. Alder Recently we lost sportscaster Stuart Scott to cancer. Before he passed he said, " When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live." That made us ask ourselves: What mark do we want to leave on this world while we are here? When I go, I do not want people dwelling on how I went, but how I lived.
