Laura Bytheway is a Post Narc Life Coach, Podcaster, Speaker and genuinely a woman who is helping women retrain their mind out of old habits and guiding them to new behaviors. We met at the PodGals Experience and I knew we had to talk. I read her Instagram posts and each one awakens experiences. On October 20, she posted this on her Instagram and my epiphany began. I'm using her words: “Here's a big thing that makes a narcissistic a narcissistic… and its not gaslighting, shaming, blaming, guilting, or lack of empathy (but they definitely do those) What distinguishes a true narc from others is this: They are willing to do things others aren't willing to do. Like use their own kids as pawns in a divorce…Or run around telling everyone lies about you just to make it seem like you're the bad guy. But here's the ONE thing that they are absolutely UNWILLING to do no matter what…That you can start doing RIGHT NOW to get freedom, create peace and start building the life you actually want. FEEL the emotions you have been unwilling to feel. Face the grief, the loss the shame, the emptiness. Allow them in your body without numbing, deflecting, avoiding or make them go away. That's right, it's that simple. You just feel your heavy, painful emotions. Just be willing to allow them. A narcissist will literally do anything but that. But this is where your true power begins. Learning this skill is just the beginning #PostNarcLife Find Laura, follow her here: PODCAST: The Post Narc Life INSTAGRAM: Laurabytheway --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastlevel50withmel/message
Misty is on TikTok. She paints, sculpts and creates digital art. She is often on a TikTok LIVE talking about creating something new and takes us on the it's process. I know when I am alone in my thoughts I have moments of epiphany. These moments can easily be used to plan things out, they can also be used to validate what I may be wanting to work on. Sometimes I just procrastinate. To make an actual change I feel that I have to be honest with what I'm feeling. This honesty requires a voice. And it requires me to connect the voice to an action and get results. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastlevel50withmel/message

In life, we know more or less when we will be born, unless there's a special circumstance. In death, we never know. I was celebrating my birthday a week ago and I am celebrating with a different perspective because I want to embrace my friends and family in every gathering for the future. With the passing of Susie and Walter, I have come to realize that we never know when we will leave this earth. So my thought for you is… embrace each day, embrace those you love, embrace the celebrations, and embrace your self along the way. Thanks for listening. I just started watching the Mary Tyler Moore Show and I'm hooked. As a child I remember waiting for these shows to come on it was 1970 I was four years old but I knew what was on and looked forward to what was on television. But back in 1970 if you missed an episode you missed it. Now I know where to find it and I can watch an entire series and binge watch everything. So my question for you is which series have you watched from beginning to end? What did you enjoy? And where did it take you. I love that I can find a show watch it from beginning to end and enjoy at my own leisure. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastlevel50withmel/message

There was an estate sale across the street on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was really busy. There was traffic coming from both directions and people were walking on sidewalks because there was no where to park. During this commotion, I saw two puppies, trying to dodge cars, run away from people and they looked really scared. Immediately, I went out and I scooped up these two pups and held them while I sat on my front porch swing. I hope you enjoy this episode, find me at pastlevel50@yahoo.com. Hiiiiiiieeeeee!!!!! This episode is to help you be an amazing guest in any future podcast episodes. I have had situations where my dogs are barking, and I've had to interrupt the episode and start at a point where I can delete the barking of the dogs. Things happen, people knock on the door, and my dogs have to defend their territory, but if someone is opening a soda can or whipping up eggs, or walking away from the phone or flushing a toilet, these are not acceptable. I know as a listener people do not want to hear that. I asked my friend Edith to assist me and be the bad guest on this mini episode. We kept it short and we hope that you found humor and laughter while learning that every sound on an episode is probably accidental. Thanks for listening and I hope that you appreciate every sound that you hear from now on ha ha. See you soon. This episode deals with toxic positivity. It's everywhere you look. On shirts, on wall art, in television shows and movies, everywhere. I grew up with toxic positivity, it was a constant in my childhood and young adult life. I think Gen Xers have dealt with toxic positivity, and now can recognize it for what it's worth. Life is not always “good vibes only.” I'm 56 now and I can see it. I can recognize it and I can get past it. This episode has played in my head for days. I watched BEEF on Netflix with Ali Wong and I related to Amy's character on so many levels. I could see how George her husband character in the show shut her up with his strong sense of toxic positivity. So many people in my life shut me down and hushed me up with their toxic positivity. So many times I was told you're crazy, calm down, and really calm and to look for a silver lining. Being told that things happen for a reason or to accept it because things could be worse were the adult's way of coping. I hope this episode will guide you to understanding toxic positivity and identifying when it is in your face. Thanks for listening. See you soon. Bye! This is a grandmother story about alterations done on clothing. A quarter inch was always the standard for those individuals who were never happy with the initial fitting. There were many men and women who assigned my grandmother and extra layer of work. They left happily as they gave her more of a task to their garment. She happily looked at their article of clothing as it hung in the hallway. A quarter of an inch was so minuscule but they asked for the extra service. These people were told the task would be completed. They felt validated in how amazing the garment was after the quarter inch was altered and when my grandmother told them that they were right…a quarter inch made all the difference. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastlevel50withmel/message

Find Coach Ang at www.coachangatwell.com/links. I found Coach Ang Atwell yesterday and was just blown away because she is the type of woman that I would've loved to have listened to as a young mom when I was in my 30s. I didn't have this and I'm hoping that now I can bring that to you and to show you that having a life coach is something that some of us may need. January 15 might just be an introduction to what you may need. The three pillars of self love, mindset and accountability were just enough for me to listen to what she had for this New Year New Vibe Workshop. Bonus at the end…See you Soon!!
Coach Kitty from TikTok and from 757 Lifestyle Walkers is here to teach us, to motivate us and to inspire us to make a change for ourselves. I had the opportunity to meet, although not in person, Coach Kitty. We record on the Naked Onion Mystery Tours podcast with Edith the Producer and Kitty Rebellion. I am Mel the Podcaster and and when we get together it's four women coming together from all over the United States. Coach Kitty and I joined the podcast a few months ago and I remember looking at her TikTok thinking wow here's a woman with such an amazing story. This story I feel was shared at the perfect time because Coach Kitty was a bit vulnerable. you can experience that bit of vulnerability when she talks about entering her first competitive walking race and I know her, I could that sense, that bit of fear in the newness of something that maybe she felt a different level in competing. I am really happy that we chose this time to talk to everyone. I am hoping that this episode will convince you to get started today instead of waiting for January 1. Do it now.
Kiki is a little dog that I met during the Thanksgiving holiday 2022. I had never been around an older female dog. She was seven years old and in human years that puts her close to a 50-year-old woman. Upon spending so much time with Kiki I noticed all of the Resemblances that I had with her. We had so much in common that I had to write the list down just to recognize and except these commonalities between myself and a dog. I recorded this on December 1, 2022. As the year ends I have come to observe what I am grateful for and what resembles my life as a 56 year old woman. Kiki became a part of the gratitude, acceptance and the love I feel for the dogs in my life.

Toxic people can make the work environment unbearable. Over 20 years ago I worked with a woman who made my life almost a living torturous hell. She observed me and evaluated me over 30 times during a school year. I happily left the district because of her and went on to work in another district for the next 16 years of my career. Today I ran into her and she literally sucked the energy out of the room for me. I knew that I had to leave that room because of how I felt about her. The anxiety I felt made me want to run away but hey I'm 56 years old so I gracefully walked out. I didn't say hello. I didn't stick around to catch up and I'm so happy I made that choice. If you have ever had a toxic coworker this episode is for you. I hope you enjoy it. See you soon. Bye!

Gradually, loneliness crept into my life. I didn't notice this stranger until I almost didn't recognize my behavior. It took a TikTok therapist, Dr. Elena Sherwood, to ask the grand question: Do you suffer from loneliness? Sniffling, I thought…yes. I listened to her and realized that I had changes to make. This is the beginning of that journey.

When I retired from teaching in a large elementary school to being at home, I was feeling very lonely. We were still in a pandemic so I dealt with life in a virtual way almost like everyone else. Then, I couldn't handle the sadness that was setting in as well. I headed to the Senior Center in my town, and signed up. These are my recent experiences. I evolved 28 years to wear yoga pants on the daily. In 1988, I had to wear customary school teacher clothing. Monday through Friday 200 days a year, slacks, covered shoulders and panty hose with closed toe shoes. I was held back with rules about jeans and school shirts. We had to wait around for jean tickets, pay $40 for extra jean days and if we were lucky we had free jean days on a printed calendar. I wear black yoga pants and Flojo flip flops daily because I can. I'm a rebellious middle aged retired teacher who wears yoga pants everywhere and I won't change for anyone.
I am so excited to have you here for Dr. Elena Sherwood. She is a retired therapist who decided to inspire others with seeking their own pattern of resilience. She wrote a book titled: Greatness Finds a Way. Finding our way in our own authenticity is a struggle as a GenXer. I felt alone in this difficult conversation but she has guided me and informed me that we are all dealing with this issue. She feels it's a bit morbid to talk about our death bed but really, by that time, it's too late. Move things now and do things while you can. Climb that mountain, do what moves you and discover that courage you need to find the path that best suits your journey.

GenX stories that will make you wonder why things were the way we were. I wished I was a dog and I told my grandmother. She told me to shut up and not say crazy things.
I'm a product of the 60s and 70s. We had such a unique upbringing. Often, the subject of going to a therapist comes up. Seriously, I have given it some thought, but I really don't think that a therapist is knowledgeable in dealing with the issues that come up with a GenX person.
I asked this question a week ago and the answers are all over the place. Those old black and white sitcoms made it look like the norm but it was not happening at my house in Kingsville, Texas! This episode deals with being a product of GenX. Our grown-ups were working and we had so much free time. Luckily we came out alive!!
Today, I'm all I'm my mom's business. She and I had so many ideas and dreams of places we would go to and visit. We talked about going to Vegas, New Orleans, you name it, we wanted to go.
