You've probably all heard the phrase, you shouldn't work for free and exposure doesn't pay the bills. Well I disagree.Working for free is actually one of the things that's actually grown my business so fast and made me more money! Now I understand that exposure might not pay a bill right there and then but if it's done right, it sure as shit helps pay bills later down the track. And I think this is where people often get it twisted…Working for free is not a long term solution to business growth, obvs! Because you need money. But it is a means to an end… either as a way to kickstart your biz if you're brand new or pivoting into a new industry, or to grow your business strategically down the track. So this episode is going to cover all the benefits of working for free [so much so that you will be converted to this strategy by the end of it!]Plus some of the things i've done over the last few years for free and how they have had a positive impact on my business. If you're looking to grow your audience, reputation or income then I highly recommend having a think about ways you can start to do this and give back a little bit more. Here's some questions to ask yourself:Where are my dream clients struggling right now? What do they need support with? How can you help them?LINKSJoin Laura's FREE weekly newsletter for all the juicy BTS goodness, VIP access to new programs and all the special offersDownload the FREE Life First Business BibleWork with LauraTag me on Instagram @lauracanham_ to stand a chance to WIN!

In this episode of The EntreMD Podcast, we're going to UNLEARN rather than learn.Physicians are service-oriented by nature. But we MUST unlearn the concept of serving for free. And this is not so we can live a lavish lifestyle but because earning is critical to keeping our businesses open! So if you're connecting the dots here, you're seeing you must earn to continue to serve. If you truly want to continue serving patients or clients—and more patients and clients!—it's essential to your business' survival to get paid. Stop working for free. You might think you're not working for free, but it's time to take a good, hard look. For example, you're working for free if you don't require pay at the time of service. (Billing later doesn't work and requires time and money spent to follow up.) You're working for free if your client paid for a 5-session package and you're throwing in some extra sessions just because. You're working for free if you have a DPC practice and make yourself available all the time. Your time is worth A LOT, and they're getting it for nothing!Every minute spent working for free is time taken away from family, personal growth, and self-care. Physicians must consider the opportunity cost of working for free.Working for free is expensive and prevents business growth and financial freedom. Physicians, we must stop working for free and start owning our value as physician entrepreneurs.// COMMUNITY: EntreMD Private Group on FacebookJoin a group of physicians who have decided to build profitable businesses, so they have the freedom to live life and practice medicine on their terms.https://www.facebook.com/groups/entremd// FOLLOWFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/drunachukwuInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/drunachukwuYouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@DrUnachukwuTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@dr.unaLinkedIn - www.linkedIn.com/in/druna// WORK WITH MEEntreMD Business School - https://www.entremd.com/business

It's no secret that working and making a profit in the music industry isn't always easy. If you're just starting out, you may be expected to work for free while you build your network and gain experience. This can be disheartening, but remember, you're investing in yourself and your future. This “season” is typically very long, but don't let that discourage you. Put in the work and utilize this opportunity to make connections and learn new skills. Use each experience as a stepping stone to get to where you want to be. Sometimes you may feel like you are taking two steps back, but remember, success is a journey and every step forward is a step in the right direction. So, today on the show, we have Nick Lamoureux, the owner of Moon Lvnding a publication out of Arizona. And today he shares with us not only his journey and how makes it through the times that he has to work for “free” but also, the secret of how he structures his company so that writers, editors, and everyone else who works for him can make a profit even if they are a little less experienced. He says that it's important to stay positive and keep your motivation high. And he gives a lot of credit to the people he surrounds himself with because they are like-minded individuals who push him to be better and to strive for greatness. Freelance grant writing is a female-led industry, with 82 percent of grant professionals surveyed are female. In our definition here, a grant professional is a grant writer that owns their own business. As far as grant writers who work within a nonprofit organization, this percentage is at 67 percent, which is also quite high. Initially what the Global Development Solutions 2022 Pricing Survey found is that female grant professionals are charging more per hour than men. -------------------------------------------------- ✨
Tradies have been working for free in Te Karaka out of what they describe as a labour of love to help their community. They're also keen to offer their services free of charge to people in other parts of the East Coast once Te Karaka is back on its feet again. Ashleigh McCaull reports.
This week, I talk about working for free. More specifically, I discuss why giving away free food, and doing events for free didn't work out for me. I'm not saying that there isn't a place for it. But before you do an event, I think you need to make sure it's a good fit. Does it make sense to give out free cupcakes at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new car dealership? There are a lot of people looking to trade your services for "exposure", but does it actually help move the needle from a business standpoint? What do you think? Let me know. This week I am digging into working for free (or for a seriously discounted rate, or… #exposure). We’ve probably all done it, or encouraged someone else to do it or discouraged someone else from doing it, so let’s untangle this messy subject. In this episode, I dig into the IF, WHEN, AND WHY you might work for free, but I am not going to give you any answers about whether or not you should. I’m going to do you one better… I’m going to give you a tool that will help you to decide on your own. What comes up for you when I talk about working for free? You might be thinking: “This doesn't affect me; I charge for everything in my business. My boundaries are clear”. I invite you to take a closer look. I think we all have something to learn here.
Far too often the idea of working for free has been abused and taken advantage of BUT that doesn't mean we can't ever do it. For those who sacrifice there comes great rewards and profit. Today, I discuss the times when working for free can benefit you! If you're watching this video you may be looking to expand your mind, capacity, or skillset personally or as a business. Pursuing with the intention of growth instead of having a money only mindset is key! Taking on specific leads, jobs, or collaborations for free or for a discount can help you display your business' niche and establish more clients. Breaking into a new area can bring a lot of profit but it can be extremely hard. Even on your best days failure will come. If failure is inevitable it should set us free to try new things and get back to doing the things we love! Although this looks different for all of us, it can often begin by being willing to do something for free. It might just be more fun than you think!Subscribe the Flow Youtube Channel: https://bit.ly/3NKR0dWThe 7 Day Social Media Reset: (Challenge) https://bit.ly/3yDumzzClick to watch the video version of this podcast: https://youtu.be/RsMGP8XF6ik

A lot of times in this industry we tend to have to work for free, whether it's early in our careers and we're just trying to get in front of new athletes or it's an unpaid internship. Working for free is usually a common factor in a lot of our careers at some point, but how can we leverage that free work and turn it into future paying clients?I talk a little about utilizing 3 specific ways we can leverage working for free, like I said, usually working for free happens in a lot of our careers. That doesn't mean we need to get into a bad spot where people expect it, we should have a calculated approach when providing our service for free - we shouldn't just do it to do it. Is doing this session for free or this internship unpaid, or this clinic for free setting up future clients, opportunities or connections? If no, then maybe we shouldn't be doing it.Remember to always value yourself and set boundaries early, don't be afraid to be the asshole and say no to someone who can't pay. The more times to just "let it fly" and let someone hop in a group session for free the more that narrative is going to spread, that narrative then becomes an actual reality. Hopefully these 3 ways to leverage free work help someone!!
When we are starting out in business, we are often so excited to have any opportunity to do the work we love. We may offer what we do for free to those around us. And this can feel like such a positive; a fantastic opportunity; and really exciting to us.This can also benefit us by helping us build our confidence, experience and processes in our businesses… versus no work at all.Soon. when we do take on our first paying clients, often this eagerness we have to do the work we love - and sometimes our desire to please our clients - can allow more work than we first agreed on to creep into what we are doing.Or we didn't have a clear agreement around how much work we would do, at all.We can feel as though we are grateful to our clients for choosing to work with us, and for giving us an opportunity. However, over time, as we work for free or overwork for the amount we are paid, we start to either resent our work, our clients or both.We can also find ourselves in a position where we don't have more capacity to take on paid work, because we are overworking, and being underpaid for our existing clients. So how do we stop working for free, or overworking for our clients? We explore exactly this in this episode.LINKS:Free Online Class - The 3 Reasons Your Followers Aren't Converting to Clients: Join The Modern Marketing Collective to get booked out with ideal clients Booked out with clients and want to scale your time, impact and revenue with an online program? In this episode, I discuss invisible labor and I challenge you to examine the role you play in accepting it as “the norm”.
This week, I talk about free food and failure. More specifically, I discuss why giving away free food, and doing events for free didn't work out for me. I'm not saying that there might not be a place for it. But before you do an event, I think you need to make sure it's a good fit. Does it make sense to give out free cupcakes and the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new car dealership? There are a lot of people looking to trade your services for "exposure", but does it actually ever help move the needle from a business standpoint? What do you think? Let me know. Sponsor- The United States Personal Chef AssociationThe Covid pandemic has clearly redefined the world of dining. Despite over 110,000 restaurants closing around the country, people still want the ambiance and social connectivity that is so critical to the dining experience. Over the past 27 years, the world of the personal chef has grown in importance to fulfill those dining needs. While the pandemic certainly upended the restaurant experience, it provided an Avenue for personal chefs to close that dining gap. Central to all of that is the United States Personal Chef Association. Representing nearly 1,000 chefs around the US and Canada, USPCA provides a strategic backbone for those chefs that includes liability insurance, training, communications, certification, and more. One of the big upcoming events for USPCA is their annual conference scheduled July 7-10 at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota, FL. Featuring a host of speakers and classes, the conference is a way for chefs to hone their skills and network with like-minded businesspeople. For those who supply the industry, it's a chance to reach not just decision-makers but the actual buyers of products. Whether or not you should be working for free as an influencer has a clear cut answer and I'm showing you exactly how to make sure you get paid. Now I am not here to belittle you and tell you that if you have worked for free, that you are hurting my bottom line and you are a horrible person. What I need you to understand is that if you do decide to work for free, that you want to make sure that the product you are receiving is something that you would normally pay for or is worth the time that you're putting in for the work.Grab the Renegotiation ScriptRead more HERE
