Three years ago, trans content creator and actor Dylan Mulvaney posted a video on TikTok documenting her first day of girlhood. Though she didn't expect to turn the post into a series, Mulvaney says the videos became a way to track both her journey and her experience of trans joy. Now, she's out with a memoir called Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer, which continues to document her transition, as well as her rise to social media stardom. In today's episode, Mulvaney speaks with NPR's Juana Summers about religion, earnestness, and the fallout of a controversial partnership with Bud Light. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

It is not easy to talk about racism, misogynism, and patriarchy these days, even though they severely mess up the present state of our society. Karen, who goes by @kclmft on TikTok, bravely discusses these topics on the internet, mainly to put down the horrible concept of Trumpism and Project 2025. She joins Corinna Bellizzi to share how she is being hunted by the former president's MAGA crew as she uses her online platform to call out his racist and misogynistic behavior. They two also talk about the dangers of individualism, the importance of collective human action, and the right way to keep your own racism in check. About Guest:Karen, whose handle on TikTok is @kclmft, is a women's right activist who has a background as a licensed marriage and family therapist with over a decade of experience. She became involved in politics when Donald Trump came on the scene and she recognized his danger. Karen started making content online when she began receiving emails from his campaign, revealing the dog-whistles, the race-bating, and the all out calls to violence for all eyes to see. Because she's been so critical of Trump, speaking out against his misogynistic behavior, his stoking of racism and division, and his connection to Project 2025, she's under fire from Trump's MAGA crew. For that reason, we won't be revealing her full name, nor linking to her business on our podcast nor on our blog page. While she remains somewhat anonymous for the purposes of this interview, you are encouraged to find and follow her on TikTok @kclmft. Guest Social: https://tiktok.com/@kclmftJOIN OUR CIRCLE. Summer Lucille, Owner & TikTok Creator of Juicy Body GoddessThe House of Representatives passed a bill to potentially ban TikTok in the US, requiring its parent company, Bytedance, to divest within 165 days. Supporters cite national security concerns due to Bytedance's Chinese ownership. Opponents argue a ban could violate the First Amendment and harm businesses. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. One of the businesses affected by the potential ban is Summer Lucille, the owner of Juicy Body Goddess a curvy and plus-size fashion boutique. Juicy Body Goddess is a brick-and-mortar and online store located in Charlotte, North Carolina but has a large presence on TikTok. The TikTok content creator has 1.4 million followers and is visiting Washington this week. In her interview with Gary and Shannon, Summer says she gets customers from all over the U.S. and worldwide who see her business on the platform. Other platforms like Instagram, X, or Facebook do not have the same effect as TikTok in getting her business seen and customers in the door both in-store and online.

San Francisco used to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. From Fisherman's Wharf to the Golden Gate Bridge, the city had a little of everything, including a vibrant culture. Recent years have seen this elegant city descend into a post-apocalyptic hellscape with rampant crime, homelessness, drug use, and feces in the streets. A recent viral TikTok video horrifies viewers worldwide, showing how terrible the city has become.Crime has become so bad that major retailers have exited the city, with retail shops closing their doors due to an absurd policy in the city where police don't respond to shoplifting incidents under $950. Criminals have become wise to this policy, and break-ins have increased with little recourse.Support the show

Chaya Raichik, the creator of Libs of TikTok, says she has "had to file a few police reports from threats" that she received. "That's really part of the reason why I was anonymous to begin with, because as I started exposing all this stuff, the Left started coming after me and their reaction is not something that I ever expected," Raichik, author of the children's book, “No More Secrets: The Candy Cavern," says. "And then when I saw that, the backlash and the way that they just wanted to silence me in any way they can, I was like, 'I think I'm going to stay anonymous because this is actually pretty scary.'""But then of course, I was doxxed, so my name was shared and I couldn't really be anonymous anymore. But I think at this point, I view it as sort of a compliment," Raichik says. Raichik adds: If you're not getting attacked, whether that's in the form of death threats or just in the form of name calling, harassment, insulting, bullying, if you're not being the victim of any that on the Right, then I think you're doing something wrong.Raichik joins today's episode of "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss what she thinks has contributed to her page's success over the last two and half years, the most outrageous video she's ever seen on TikTok, and her response to people who say that she's anti-LGBTQ.
