On the show this time, Thailand meets West Africa through the electrifying drumming of Salin. Salin was born and raised in Thailand. She started out learning music on the piano, but switched to drums partly because the drum teacher was fun, and partly because she was listening to metal. She got good! Good enough to get work as a session drummer for Sony Thailand. She moved to the United States for college. While there she joined a band in Montreal – driving 10 hours along the Great Lakes to go to practice. She learned about new music from her bandmate and fell in love with soul and funk. The government has announced a new plan to include a two-dose chickenpox vaccine in the childhood immunization schedule for all babies born on or after October 1, 2024. The vaccine will be administered at 12 months and again when the child enters junior infants. There is no catch-up program for those born before this date, who will need to get vaccinated privately. Despite initial concerns about the duration of efficacy, authorities, including HICWA, have determined the benefits outweigh risks. A vaccination uptake of 80% is necessary to achieve herd immunity and protect vulnerable groups. Common side effects are minimal, and the vaccine aims to significantly reduce chickenpox and associated complications in the community. The podcast encourages all eligible people to get vaccinated to ensure broad protection for the population. In this episode:00:00 Government Announces Chickenpox Vaccine for Children00:29 Details of the Vaccine Schedule00:41 Evaluating the Vaccine's Efficacy and Risks01:18 Chickenpox: A Common and Serious Disease02:05 Global Adoption of the Chickenpox Vaccine02:37 Importance of High Vaccination Uptake02:53 Two-Dose Schedule and Its Benefits03:48 Potential Risks and Concerns05:06 Complications and Risks of Chickenpox06:03 Special Considerations for Pregnant Women07:44 Who Should Not Get the Vaccine?08:41 Post-Vaccination Transmission and Side Effects10:18 Summary and Call to Action11:12 Conclusion and Contact InformationSeason 9 Partnership– Salin Plus (available here!)I am so thrilled to be partnering with Salin plus This 100% natural salt therapy device is suitable for both adults and children! In this special episode, I sit down with my good friend Jaime Camil for a fun and spontaneous conversation about our upcoming adventures. Jaime and I talk all the time, and we thought it would be great to record an episode about our upcoming trip to Mexico. We're excited to put Mexico on the leaderboard for the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) with our LA team. We discuss our plans to meet the successful Ricardo Salinas in Mexico City, where we'll visit one of his major companies, Italika—a motorcycle company owned by Salinas. Jaime, the guys, and I will be riding Italika motorcycles during the trip. We also delve into Jaime's Harley Davidson ST build, talking about the parts and accessories that make it unique. As a special shout-out, we highlighted Salsa Mila Luna, Jaime's wife's incredible salsa. It's all organic, made with fresh ingredients, no paste, and whole tomatoes. Join us as two friends catch up on the mic, sharing what's happening in our lives, our excitement for the DGR, and our adventures in Mexico. Tune in for a lively and engaging episode that captures the spirit of friendship and the thrill of the ride.
