In this week's episode, we dive into one of the quirkiest events in the world – the Nordic Hot Springs Hair Freezing Contest in Yukon, Canada. Each year, brave participants dip into hot springs in freezing temperatures, styling their hair into bizarre frozen masterpieces. The catch? The temperature needs to drop to at least -20°C (-4°F) for the magic to happen. However, this year's contest faced an unusual setback: the weather just wasn't cold enough to freeze hair! Join us as we discuss what happens when nature doesn't cooperate, the history of this fun and frosty tradition, and how Yukon's winter wonderland is still a must-see destination, even without frozen hair art.For more about the contest and to plan for next year, visit their official website here. This week's featured hashtag is #ThanksgivingConversationStarters.

Well we took a little break as Harry completed the Summer Bridge program at Shippensburg University but we are back and have an episode chock full of wonderfully geeky Warhammer content. In this episode we start off by talking about our first foray into Age of Sigmar. We played both a Spearhead game and a full 2000 point army game. Both were extremely enjoyable. In our next segment we talked about some Warhammer news and touched on the Top 50 comic sales of July. We wrap up this episode talking about the art of Dungeons and Dragons and a great documentary on the topic called Eye of the Beholder. We also talk about the incredible art resource book called Dungeons & Dragons Art & Arcana. Check out the documentary at https://www.eyeofthebeholdermovie.com/ and stream it now on Amazon. Grab the book that we talked about at Dungeons and Dragons Art & Arcana. Finally we wrap it up and talk about all the updates that have been going on at our website. Lot's of new posts and the launch of a monthly giveaway. Check it out and you can Win Free Warhammer Stuff!
Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we start a new series on Heroes of Might and Magic. This week, I talk with Emma Bamford about her thriller Eye of the Beholder, a feminist retelling of Hitchcock's Vertigo. We dive into what inspired her to write a Vertigo-inspired thriller, and how well the story of controlling image still fits modern times.Eye of the Beholder SynopsisWhen Maddy Wight is hired to ghostwrite the memoir of world-renowned cosmetic surgeon Dr. Angela Reynolds, she thinks it might just be her chance to get her career back on track. She travels to Angela's remote estate in the Scottish Highlands to hunker down and learn everything she can. But the deeper she digs, the more elusive the doctor becomes. Is there more hidden beneath the surface of the kaleidoscopic beauty industry than Angela wants to reveal?Sharing the estate is Angela's enigmatic business partner, Scott, whose mercurial moods change as quickly as the conditions on the darkening moors outside. Confined to the glass-walled house, Maddy can't shake the feeling of being watched. As objects go missing, handprints appear on the windows, and a stranger lurks in the grounds, she finds herself drawn ever closer to Scott. Returning to London once the book is finished, Maddy is excited for their future together. But her dreams are shattered at the book launch when Angela learns that Scott has leapt to his death from the Scottish cliffs.Which is why, months later and lost in a fog of grief, Maddy is completely blindsided when she sees Scott entering the Tube station just in front of her. It can't be him, can it? After all, Scott is dead...or is he?In exploring the differences between looking and seeing, surface and depth, and the power of the female gaze, this tribute to Hitchcock's 1958 film masterpiece asks: If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, how much can you trust what you see?Follow Emma on InstagramFollow Kate on Instagram

The ‘I' (intermediate susceptibility) in a EUCAST-guided antibiogram never meant impending resistance to your antibiotic. It was never meant to make you find the one ‘S' (invariably a carbapenem) and use it instead—even if many clinicians did. In this episode of Communicable, hosts Marc Bonten and Angela Huttner welcome Profs. Christian Giske (outgoing chair) and Sören Gatermann (newly elected chair) of the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) to discuss its recent updates, including the new ‘susceptible dose dependent' (SDD) label, and to shed light on common misconceptions around the way it sets breakpoints. Breakpoints for Pseudomonas aeruginosa are discussed, as are intravenous fosfomycin's ‘disappearance' from the breakpoints table and EUCAST's new guidance on it. Did 26 words from an American law passed in 1996 create the internet? Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act says that interactive websites and applications cannot be held legally liable for the content posted on their sites by their users. Without the law, it's likely Facebook, Amazon, Reddit, Yelp, and X wouldn't exist — at least not in their current form. But some say the law shields large tech companies from liability for enabling, or even amplifying, harmful content. On today's show, we discuss Section 230, recent efforts to reform it, and new proposals for content moderation on the internet.
