Amy Beecher is a visual artist working in installation, digital imaging, sound, and text. In 2013 she created a podcast, The Amy Beecher Show, as an excuse to invite people to her 160 square foot Brooklyn apartment. She's since moved, and The Amy Beecher Show has moved with her. Like an easily amazed and distracted therapist, Beecher opens doors to the inner workings of her subject's artistic lives, inviting guests to reflect on their work, their process, and, mostly, everything else.
The Amy Beecher Show podcast is a truly exceptional platform for artists and creatives to share their stories, thoughts, and experiences. Hosted by the talented Amy Beecher, this podcast delivers in-depth and intimate interviews that are sure to captivate listeners.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is Beecher's remarkable talent for interviewing artists. She has a unique ability to set the tone of each conversation, creating a comfortable and open environment where guests feel encouraged to share their insights and personal journeys. Her long-form style allows for in-depth discussions that go beyond just talking about art, delving into the artists' lives and experiences as well. This adds an incredible layer of richness to the conversations and makes them highly personal and textured.
The through line of curiosity in each episode is another standout feature of The Amy Beecher Show. Beecher's genuine interest in her guests shines through in every interview, leading to engaging conversations that are both captivating and enlightening. It's not just about discussing art; it's about exploring the human experience through the lens of creativity. This approach brings a depth and nuance to the podcast that sets it apart from others in its genre.
While there aren't many negative aspects to highlight, some listeners may find that the esoteric introductory monologues can be a bit jarring or confusing at times. These monologues are often filled with abstract ideas or philosophical musings, which may not resonate with all listeners. However, it's important to keep in mind that these monologues are part of what makes The Amy Beecher Show unique and add an element of thought-provoking introspection to each episode.
In conclusion, The Amy Beecher Show is undeniably one of the best podcasts out there for artists looking for inspiration, insight, and meaningful conversations. With its skilled host, long-form style, and genuine curiosity, this podcast offers a truly immersive experience for both artists and art enthusiasts. Whether you're interested in the art world or simply enjoy engaging conversations with fascinating individuals, The Amy Beecher Show is a must-listen that will leave you feeling inspired and captivated.

I think it was early 2019 that I went to see Tracy Molis' last show at Kai Matsumiya. There were two types of paintings on view: paintings of artifacts inspired by an archaeological drawing class she was teaching at Columbia, and then paintings of stills from a Rage Against The Machine music video… a different type of artifact. In some ways, this re-released podcast in honor of her next show at the gallery feels like a dusty dug up artifact, a remnant from the “before times.” Enjoy this time capsule! Today's re-release: this one's exciting because it corresponds with some content that you can stream from the comfort of your own home: Aoife Spillane Hink's film opera A Thing I Cannot Name is streaming online today for World Opera Day. Irish-American director, writer, and actor Aoife-Spillane Hinks is a longtime friend of mine. We used to joke that we were long lost sisters (similar curly hair although hers was more impressive) and even though we rarely get to connect you can tell in this episode that there's so much love there.
