Michael Rau is a professor, theater director, and tech innovator in one. He says that today's technologies – AI, gaming, interactive storytelling, and even email – are reshaping what performers can do on stage and how audiences experience those performances. The best of the stage has always been about reflecting life, and technology is part of how we live today. It belongs on the stage, as Rau tells host Russ Altman on this episode of Stanford Engineering's The Future of Everything podcast.Have a question for Russ? In this episode, Phil reflects on his recent conference presentation experience, sharing five key strategies to ease anxiety and enhance effectiveness when presenting at workshops. He emphasizes the importance of engaging with attendees, choosing scalable activities, focusing on participants, planning effectively, and managing time during presentations. Phil encourages listeners to reach out for feedback and support as they prepare for their own presentations. I experience a lot of anxiety when presenting. Engaging with attendees helps reduce anxiety. Choose activities that can scale with group size. Focus on those who choose to participate. Less is more, but plan for more activities. Start presentations on time, even if attendees are late. End presentations five minutes early to allow for transitions. Workshops should prioritize sharing information. Feedback and support are crucial for improvement. Continuous practice leads to improvement in presenting. This week hosts Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, and Andrew Gillum take on the LIES. There has been a cascade of falsehoods about Vice President Harris ever since she became the presumptive nominee for President. The hosts share Kamala's real record as DA, CA Attorney General, and senator—not that the liars care. But seriously, how do we intend to counter all the disinformation?? Do you want to get involved this election season? The hosts offer tips on how to get politically engaged in response to a listener's question. They also answer your questions about Trump's Agenda 47, white “control trauma,” and “voter festivals” to bring out the vote. If you'd like to submit a question send us a message and check out our tutorial video: www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/ In other news, with the National Association of Black Journalists inviting Trump to speak at their conference, Andrew gives a firsthand perspective on why diversity and safe spaces within the press corps are mission critical. A shoutout to the Tax Relief Bill working its way through the Senate this week. Contact your Senator and let them know the bill has your support! And the hosts commemorate the first anniversary of what will surely go down as a most historical event—Augusteenth 2023! Tell your grandkids y'all, you were there for the memes. Recorded live from the HoloNet News Stage at Star Wars Celebration London, Fern and Julia explore Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces and the impact of "The Hero's Journey" on Star Wars and mass-media storytelling in general. (Psst...the audio isn't great in this one because Julia forgot she saved the audio we recorded with the nice microphone to her external hard drive...which is currently 2000 miles away from her. We'll upload the improved audio as soon as we can). Points of Interest: The KCU (Korkie Cinematic Universe), Joseph Campbell's Whole Deal, Audience Participation, Archetypal Set Points, and Ending Early to Get to the High Republic Panel. A member of Sinfonia Toronto and the Ton Beau String Quartet, Canadian cellist Sarah Steeves chats with us about the topic of audience participation, and how it differs so greatly from classical music to other musical genres and sports. The world and the classical musical world in particular is constantly evolving, and perhaps it is time to start exploring new ways to relate to our audiences, and help make the concert experience a more inclusive one. This week on Ring of Fire! Donald Trump is running for President, but he can't run away from all of the investigations he's facing. And things aren't looking good for him in the New York tax fraud trial. COVID deaths may have played a larger role in the midterms than previously thought, according to a new study. We'll explain how the GOP's decision to let their base die may have cost them several seats. And we've got another Q&A for you! Will Clarence Thomas be impeached? Is Trump going to jail? Who could Democrats run in 2024 if Biden steps down? All those questions, and many more, will be answered this week.

Reed is a nationally touring, award-winning illusionist. He performs with his wife Ashton as The Mastersons 21st Century Magic. They have been featured on ABC, NBC, Fox, and the CW. Century Magic is what Reed & Ashton like to call a “High Energy, High Impact, Magic & Illusion Show”. It is a strategically combined mix of Brain-Bending New Age Illusions, Highly Trained Rescue Animals, Ridiculous Stunts, Breath-Taking Escapes, Audience Participation, and just “The Absolute Correct Amount of Comedic Relief”. Reed shares the story of developing the entrepreneurial spirit within himself while growing up with virtually no support structure. He also shares his journey of learning that you pursue goals and systems that make you happy or it's just not worth it.
