Most leaders think the problem is accountability. Chris Hallberg says the real problem is trust, and accountability is simply what starts to fall apart when trust is missing. In this episode, Chris, a military veteran, entrepreneur, and EOS implementer recognized by Inc. Magazine as a top 10 global leadership expert, explains why smart teams with big goals still struggle to execute. The issue often comes down to focus, clarity, and honest conversations about who is truly on the bus and where the bus is going. Most organizations are not struggling because they lack goals; they are struggling because they have too many of them. Chris brings the discipline of military thinking into the messy reality of building companies, using ideas like Lencioni's trust pyramid and the fire triangle of business problems to offer a practical new lens for team performance, meetings, and culture. From High Revenue to High Profit: The Missing Piece in Your Business with Chris Hallberg, EOS Find Rocky Lalvani @ www.ProfitComesFirst.com or email him at rocky@profitcomesfirst.com Make more, work less video: https://youtu.be/ Hire a Green Beret: Why Veterans Transform Your Business In this episode, Rocky Lalvani sits down with Chris Hallberg, ranked #9 on Inc. Magazine's Top 50 Leadership & Management Experts, to discuss why hiring the right people and implementing disciplined systems are the real keys to building a profitable business. Chris shares insights from his military background, his veteran-powered recruiting company Business Sergeant, and his work implementing the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) with hundreds of companies. Learn why Green Berets might be your secret weapon, how to stop bleeding money through bad hiring decisions, and why your profit problem might not be a revenue problem at all. Learning Insights The true cost of bad hiring: A single bad hire in a $100,000 role costs approximately $500,000 when accounting for turnover and lost productivity. A-players cost only 1.2X to 1.6X more but deliver 2 to 10 times the value. Veterans are exceptionally rare and valuable: Only half of 1% of the US population has special operations training. They don't cost more to hire than regular candidates but deliver exponentially more value through proven leadership under pressure. High revenue does not equal high profit: The biggest pattern Chris sees is companies saying yes to every opportunity. Without a strong number two person (COO/integrator) to say no and protect margins, you get high sales but low profit. Your yes person needs a no person: Visionary CEOs naturally seek opportunities. They need a strong integrator to say no and protect profit margins. Without this balance, money disappears and profit suffers. Accountability is natural with the right people: When you hire aligned, quality people who share your values, accountability happens without friction. If you can't hold someone accountable, you have the wrong person in that seat. Use math, not gut feeling, to make decisions: Create a go/no-go matrix based on realistic data. Input assumptions about revenue, time, and resources. Let the numbers tell you yes or no instead of relying on passion or intuition. Discipline beats opportunity every single time: The road to business failure is paved with companies that couldn't decide what to say no to. Clear, disciplined decisions about strategy and fit matter more than saying yes to everything. The Big Takeaway The difference between businesses that struggle and businesses that thrive isn't complicated. It's not about working harder, better marketing, or a superior product. It's about two things: the right people in the right seats, and the discipline to say no to opportunities that don't fit your strategy and profit model. Most visionary founders and CEOs are wired to say yes. They're opportunity seekers. That's their strength. But without a strong integrator, COO, or number two person who protects profit margins by saying no, companies end up with high revenue and low profit. They're exhausted, understaffed, and serving too many customers at too thin a margin. Additionally, most business owners are flying blind when it comes to hiring and decision making. They rely on gut feeling instead of math. Veterans, particularly those from special operations backgrounds, bring a rare combination of perseverance, problem solving, accountability, and calm under pressure that most candidates can't match. They've been selected and tested in environments where failure isn't an option. They understand what real adversity looks like, which makes business challenges feel manageable by comparison. The math is simple: invest more upfront in the right person, hold them accountable, create systems for evaluation and improvement, and say no to opportunities that don't fit. Do this, and your business transforms. Conclusion Building a profitable, scalable business requires more than good ideas and hard work. It requires the right people in the right seats, clear systems for making decisions, and the discipline to say no. Chris Hallberg's work with hundreds of leadership teams and his experience as a veteran demonstrate that these principles work regardless of industry or company size. Whether you hire a Green Beret through Business Sergeant or simply apply the framework Chris and Rocky outlined, the message is the same: your people and your discipline are what create profit. Everything else is a distraction. In this episode, Travis sits down with leadership expert and “Business Sergeant” Chris Hallberg to unpack how great sales and great leadership go hand in hand. From shoveling driveways in Minnesota to scaling and selling an energy‑efficient remodeling company during the Great Recession, Chris shows how disciplined systems, integrity in sales, and long‑term thinking can build serious revenue. On this episode we talk about: How Chris went from shoveling snow and working at McDonald's to military police, then into construction sales and six‑figure commission income The story of launching an energy‑efficient remodeling business in 2008–2010 using tax credits, ROI calculators, and “green” door‑to‑door canvassing to thrive while legacy contractors went under Why door‑to‑door is still “king” in certain home-services niches, and how to sell respectfully at the front door without being a stereotypical high‑pressure closer The mindset shift from zero‑sum “I win, you lose” sales to win‑win selling that focuses on impact, education, and walking away when you're not the best fit How Chris now helps leadership teams implement EOS and uses his GoExpand AI platform to build disciplined, accountable, highly profitable organizations Top 3 Takeaways The best salespeople think of themselves as problem solvers and educators, not manipulators; they're willing to walk away when their solution is not truly in the customer's best interest. In tough economies, differentiation plus math wins: pairing tax incentives, real energy‑savings ROI, and targeted canvassing allowed Chris's company to grow while others shrank. Long‑term success comes from systems and culture, not just charisma—frameworks like EOS and tools like GoExpand help leadership teams create repeatable, scalable performance. Notable Quotes “I look at people as helping people, not selling people. No one wants to be sold, but everybody needs help.” “If you serve other humans, you'll get your just rewards. If you're only trying to take, you'll only get what they'll let you have.” “Both models can work for six months, but only one works for ten years.” Connect with Chris Hallberg: Website (Veteran community): https://bizsgt.com Coaching & software: https://goexpand.com EOS Implementer profile: https://implementer.eosworldwide.com/chris-hallberg ✖️✖️✖️✖️

Support YDS on Patreon! This week, Zoë and Kylee tackle the carnivore diet, the internet's most extreme eating trend. From raw liver smoothies at Erewhon to shirtless influencers promising that “meat heals everything,” the carnivore diet has exploded in popularity. But what really happens when you cut out all plants and live on ribeye steaks, bacon, and bone broth? We explore the strange history of meat-only diets, from 1920s Bellevue experiments to modern influencers like Shawn Baker and Paul Saladino. We unpack the claims about plant “toxins,” the allure of ketosis, and why athletes, especially women, need carbs for performance, recovery, and hormone health. And we dig into the environmental cost of ribeye-heavy eating, why beef is one of the most resource-intensive foods on the planet, and how climate denial often gets wrapped into carnivore culture. So should you go full T-Rex? Probably not. But understanding the hype—and the risks—shows why restrictive food fads keep spreading, and why carbs are still essential for endurance athletes and long-term health.Support the ShowEternal – To check out Foundations, use the promo code YDS for 10% a one year membership.Tailwind Nutrition offers science–backed endurance fuel that actually works. Minnesota's North Shore has been a gathering place for centuries. Whether heading into the Boundary Waters or out on Lake Superior, Grand Marais ranks a favorite Base Camp. While it may be small in population, it's big in spirit. Life here moves to the rhythms of the woods and waters. In this episode of the Lake Superior Podcast, Walt Lindala and Frida Waara talk with Sarah Jorgensen-Halberg, longtime resident and owner of Java Moose, the beloved shoreline coffee shop that fuels both locals and visiting adventurers. Her daily weather video connects folks near and far to this Sweetwater Sea town and she shares what it means to live on the edge of wilderness—and how the lake's powerful sense of place keeps people coming back to Grand Marais.Key Takeaways:Grand Marais transforms seasonally: A town of about 1,300 full-time residents swells to around 50,000 in the summer, driven by tourism to the lake, North Shore, and nearby wilderness areas.Local entrepreneurship fuels connection: Java Moose, run by Sarah Jorgenson-Hallberg and her family, offers not just coffee but a community space for stories, weather reports, and visitor conversations.Lake Superior demands respect: The lake's 34-degree waters and strong currents can be dangerous. Sarah emphasizes safety and awareness for all visitors, especially near the lighthouse.Winter brings peace and beauty: After the busy season, Grand Marais quiets down. Sarah loves cross-country skiing, hiking, and the sunshine of winter — despite the freezing temperatures.Tourism is vital to the economy: Sarah says plainly, “We would not survive without it.” Much of the local economy depends on seasonal visitors to national parks and the shoreline.Notable Quotes:“I love winter. I cross-country ski a lot. I run in the winter. I get out and I hike a lot. Part of it is probably because it's quieter.”“It is imperative to be as safe as we possibly can be.”“Grand Marais and Lake Superior, it almost forces you to take that moment, right? Because it is so vast and powerful, that you just kind of stop for a moment and you're inspired.”“We pour ourselves out. I see that when you come into our shop, this is an extension of my home, so I'm hosting you.”“At the end of the day, we are welcoming you into our home.”Resources:Java Moose Grand Marais – Find Sarah's daily weather reports on: Instagram https://www.instagram.com/javamoosegrandmarais/ & Facebook: Jhttps://www.facebook.com/javamoosegrandmarais/Java Moose Website & Newsletter – Sign up for monthly stories and photos: https://javamoosegrandmarais.comVisit Cook County – Plan your trip: https://www.visitcookcounty.comConnect With Us:Website: https://nplsf.org/podcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NationalParksOfLakeSuperiorFoundationLinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/company/national-parks-of-lake-superior-foundationSponsors:Cafe Imports: Supporting environmental sustainability in coffee-growing regions since 1993. I veckans avsnitt av ”Så in i Själen” möter ni Marianne Hallberg.
