The alt title of this episode was, Chaos in its Most Beautiful Form. Today on The Perinatal Podcast, we go here, we go there, we go every very many which ways in spectacular fashion. I'm joined this week by McKenzie Jones and Meredith Garrison—my very first sibling guests on the show! Together, we dive into a rich conversation about identity in motherhood, neurodivergence in both parenting and childhood, and the challenges of guiding our children through a world that doesn't always celebrate creativity or support those who step outside the bounds of cultural norms. We also reflect on Mother's Day, exploring what it means to honor all identities and lived experiences. Throughout our chat, we invite you, our Listener Darlings, to embrace curiosity over judgment—to hold space for others, lead with empathy, and humanize the experiences of those around you. And maybe, just maybe, explore how you might let go of judgment altogether while still being intentional about protecting your own peace. This is a heartfelt, thoughtful conversation—and I'm so glad to welcome you back to another episode of The Perinatal Podcast.Find McKenzie! The Worker Place: https://www.theworkerplace.coop/Launch Cooperative: https://www.launch.coop/US Federation of Worker Cooperatives: https://www.usworker.coop/Strange Heavy: https://www.strangeheavy.com/Mama Look: https://www.instagram.com/mamalookmusicFind Meredith! ✨The Perinatal Podcast – 104: Embrace. Adapt, & Thrive: Navigating Neurodivergence as a Busy Professional with Christina Gray✨Christina Gray is a high-performing real estate professional, designer, and creative problem solver who also happens to live with ADHD—a trait she was diagnosed with in first grade and has spent her life understanding, embracing, and using to her advantage. Raised in a household where ADHD was never treated as a deficit but rather a different way of thinking, Christina grew up seeing her neurodivergence as a strength. In her fast-paced career in real estate, Christina wears many hats: agent, designer, home stager, marketing strategist, consultant, and sometimes even therapist. Her ADHD allows her to thrive in environments where she can multitask, stay on her feet, and engage with new challenges daily. But it hasn't always been easy—she's spent years developing systems to stay organized, motivated, and grounded in the midst of mental chaos.Christina now regularly finds herself supporting others—friends, clients, and colleagues—who are navigating their own ADHD journeys, whether diagnosed or not. She believes in giving people permission to adapt their lives to fit their brains, not the other way around.Outside of her professional world, Christina is a proud rescue mom to two dogs and a cat, active in local animal rescue and TNR (which I had to google, it's trap-neuter-release for stray cats, love that) efforts. She's a foodie at heart, loves to travel, and starts every day with a solid cup of coffee (not a morning person—she's tried). One of her favorite daily rituals is walking with her husband and dogs, unplugged from tech, reconnected to each other.Welcome back to The Perinatal Podcast!Find the FREE Navigating ADHD Mini Workbook here!https://subscribepage.io/ADHDMiniWorkbookFind Christina!Website: https://www.graypropertygrp.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/realestatewithchristina/Thank you to today's show sponsors!Essenther: https://us.essenther.com/AMPLIFYWELLNESSWITHMEG Promo Code: AMPLIFYWELLNESSWITHMEGMomanda: https://us.momanda.cc/?dt_id=39578 Promo Code - PERINATAL Needed: https://thisisneeded.com/?utm_channel=Needed%20-%20Creator&irpid=4545739&irmpname=meg%40megdukelcsw.com&iradid=1770238&irgwc=1&utm_source=creator&utm_medium=4665719&utm_campaign=1654615&icid=XgjX7YUz7xyKUt1VqHVEd3AXUksxaM2IKTb5V00 Promo Code - PERINATALPODCAST Muse: https://choosemuse.com/pages/muse-2-offers?utm_source=4739&utm_medium=Affiliate&cppid=4739&cpclid=6ead105f2fb2454a87218286b4b5636f&utm_campaign=Amplify%20Wellness%20Coaching&utm_content= Promo Code - AMPLIFY WELLNESSThanks so much for joining me for this episode of The Perinatal Podcast. I had the privilege and honor to be a featured speaker at the 2024 Purdue Women's Conference through the Purdue For Life Foundation, and as nervous as I was heading into it, I had an absolute blast! A room of 58 spectacular humans heard my thoughts, and shared their own, on giving ourselves grace, defining our values and putting our energy and choices toward those values, ideas for distraction and focus, and you know I can't resist a FRIENDS reference - working to be okay with a PIVOT. Please enjoy the recording of this empowering discussion where I got to share my passions at one of my favorite places on earth! Boiler Up, and welcome back to The Perinatal Podcast!

In this episode of The Perinatal Podcast, I had the enormous pleasure to chat with Alice Johnstone, The Postnatal Pilates Coach, to discuss the value of avoiding perfection and instead implementing care routines in small, consistent ways. We emphasize the importance of spending time on health and wellness, not just for ourselves but also as role models for future generations. Alice also challenges the notion of being "low maintenance" and encourages women to embrace taking up space. We explore the idea that it's okay to not feel 100% all the time—it's okay to not be okay. Plus, we uncover the surprising connection between your TMJ and pelvis, and why evolving forward is the goal, never bouncing back. Welcome back to The Perinatal Podcast! How do we live in the body we have instead of fighting against the body we have? How do we avoid perfectionism and all-or-nothing thinking when it comes to eating and movement? How do we stop feeling entitled to talk about other people's bodies? These questions and SO much more are answered this week when dietitian and body neutral activist, Elizabeth Harris, joins me for a lovely chat including getting intentional about self-talk, tuning out the noise (gaslighting!) of diet culture, and how we are all just out here doing our best as parents in a world of so many mixed messages. Hello, Neurospicy Krewe! Welcome back to another episode of The Perinatal Podcast. It's an honor and a privilege to have every one of y'all here with each week. Sarah Lovell of Executive Functioning First joins me to discuss a myriad of stumbling blocks and thinking patterns that impact your (and my!) day-to-day. We discuss being willing to pivot when things don't serve us, listening to our inner voices rather than making choices based on external expectations, the importance of naming emotions to be able to move onto the next step, and how to create a system to organize and manage our variable attention stimulus traits. We discussed all-or-nothing thinking and perfectionism that lead to procrastination, how the US K-12 school system setup leads some of us to think we're doing it all "wrong" when really, it's not set up for our neurofabulous brains, how we get stuck and how we navigate that, I mean, the list truly goes on! I've been hinting at this episode for a while, and it's finally here! Join us for an in-depth conversation about mental health (or the lack thereof) in the Harry Potter series. We explore the challenge of separating the art from the artist, especially in light of the author's controversial views on equity. Our discussion covers how we suppress our "magic," battle imposter syndrome, navigate self-worth, and much more. These beloved books have been our favorites since childhood, and it was a joy to gather with friends to discuss them. We also connected with fellow Potter fans to hear their personal stories, the series' impact on their lives, and their insights on mental health. Enjoy the episode! In this episode, we're joined by Emily Bitner, a seasoned therapist and coach specializing in supporting mothers and daughters through their unique journeys. Together, we explore the intricate web of societal pressures and personal expectations that women face from a tender age. From the seemingly unattainable standards of independence to the relentless pursuit of perfection, we dissect the stressors and strains that weigh heavily on the shoulders of women, especially as they transition into motherhood. Join us as we uncover strategies for breaking free from the shackles of societal norms and embracing a new paradigm of healthy interdependency. Emily shares invaluable insights on how to navigate these complex dynamics, offering practical advice on understanding we are first human, how to acknowledge our identities and our mothers', setting boundaries, and prioritizing the well-being of both ourselves and our children. Tune in as we embark on a transformative journey towards self-discovery, empowerment, and ultimately, liberation from the expectations that no longer serve us. This episode of The Perinatal Podcast is a beacon of hope for daughters, some of whom are also mothers, everywhere, reminding us that it's okay to ask for help, to lean on others, and to redefine what it truly means to thrive as a woman on this planet. What is Kindness? This week, Kaitlin Johnstone of Kind Cotton joins me to explore the many and evolving definitions of kindness, how inclusion can lead to a more compassionate and authentic world, and how both of us had trouble keeping our mouths shut in elementary school. Kaitlin Johnstone is the co-founder of a company called Kind Cotton. Kind Cotton is a clothing company dedicated to redefining kindness and putting books in the hands of kids. Their inclusive clothing helps to inspire others to rethink kindness as more than simple pleasantries, but rather take a deeper look into kindness being rooted in justice and grounded in action. With every purchase made, a book is directly given to a child through the Kind Cotton Reading Program. To date, Kaitlin and her husband Kevin have donated close to 145,000 books to children and teachers across the country. Zach Watson just changed a significant part of my relationship therapy/coaching conversations in this discussion. I used to say, "When we keep score, everyone loses." And while y'all know I deeply dislike an all-or-nothing statement, I have historically leaned pretty hard into that sentiment. Zach walks me through the difference between stat-keeping and score-keeping, and my mind and practice are forever changed! Zach is a Fair Play pro, encouraging all humans - generally men - on ways to help decrease the mental load for default caregivers. We discuss the ways to decrease defensiveness and function from a place of vulnerability in order to find solution-focused ways to nurture your relationship. And so much more. Dr. Rosmarin, the founder of the Center for Anxiety and a Harvard associate professor, draws on research and clinical experience to show readers how to “make anxiety your friend.” Often, those who suffer from anxiety either exhaust themselves trying to cure it or resign themselves to a lifetime of fear and worry—but Dr. Rosmarin presents a third way: instead of fighting their anxiety, what if people could turn it into a strength? "Celeste Yvonne, a founding host of Sober Mom Squad, an online community for nondrinking moms, implores 'women drowning in the mental load of motherhood' to rethink their relationship with alcohol and parenting in this passionate debut...Stressed-out moms will find comfort." Publisher's Weekly shared that about this week's guest and her new book, It's Not About the Wine, and I couldn't have said it better any other way. And y'all know my husband sells wine & spirits for a living, so this is an ongoing discussion for myself, as well as how we want to discuss alcohol consumption as our children grow. Listener, I am so delighted to share this chat with Celeste with you. She's doing the work, she creating the supportive spaces, she has literally written the book on helping mommas be present through the hardships that is parenthood rather than numbing out with a glass of wine in hand. This week on The Perinatal Podcast, Jessica Lahey joins me to chat about how to set our kids up for success in regard to what they put in their bodies even from a young age, what to have intentional conversations about quitting things like piano and soccer, even how to be a happier parent. What a delight it was having Jessica on to share about the effects of over-parenting, how to help build autonomy in our children, and how all of this is not done in one simple conversation, and I'm so excited to share our discussion with you! About Jessica: Jessica Lahey is the author of the New York Times bestselling book, The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed and The Addiction Inoculation: Raising Healthy Kids in a Culture of Dependence. Jess was awarded the Research Society on Alcohol's Media Award for “outstanding journalistic efforts of writers who cover empirical research on alcohol” […] “for her book The Addiction Inoculation and advocacy for the recovery community.” Over twenty years, Jess has taught every grade from sixth to twelfth in both public and private schools, and spent five years teaching in a drug and alcohol rehab for adolescents in Vermont. She has written about education, parenting, and child welfare for The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and her biweekly column “The Parent Teacher Conference” ran for three years at the New York Times. She designed and wrote the educational curriculum for Amazon Kids' award-winning animated series The Stinky and Dirty Show, and was a 2019 Pushcart Prize nominee. She wrote a book! This week, Dr. Aliza Pressman of Raising Good Humans Podcast joins me to discuss getting obsessively curious, using real science in making your choices while raising tiny humans, and her new book, The 5 Principles of Parenting. In the age of high-pressure parenting, when so many of us we feel like we've got to get everything exactly right the first time, Dr. Aliza Pressman is the compassion, reassuring expert we all need—and the one whose advice we can all use. Already beloved by listeners of hit podcast, Raising Good Humans, Dr. Pressman distills it all with a handful of strategies every parent can use to get things right often enough: Relationship, Reflection, Regulation, Rules, and Repair. Don't let me forget, here's the video I reference in the conversation - Worth a watch! This week, I'm joined by my very own intuitive eating insta guru, Dr. Lisa Folden, and she blows my mind by sharing intentional weight loss has a 97% fail rate. Say what?? Dr. Lisa and I discuss intuitive eating, inequity in health care for people in larger bodies, false assumptions like that of the relationship between joint pain and body weight, and how to seek neutrality and respect in your views of different body types. So much more happened in this amazing discussion with Dr. Lisa, and you'll have to tune in to learn all about it! Thanks for listening to The Perinatal Podcast! Find Dr. Holden! Dr. Kelsey Beach is the owner of enCORE Therapy & Performance. She started her journey with physical therapy in 2011 after earning a doctorate of Physical Therapy from Southwest Baptist University and jumping head first into pelvic health rehab. Combining a love for triathlons and her experiences in pregnancy with her expertise in PT, the encore was born. In this week's episode, we discuss how to navigate physical and emotional concerns in the perinatal period. We realize how much we didn't know what we didn't know in our pregnancies, and how that translates into our clients and beyond today. We provide ideas for how to advocate for yourself and ask questions to your providers to help you feel set up for success in birth and beyond. Thanks for listening to The Perinatal Podcast! This week on The Perinatal Podcast, Dr. Tina Payne Bryson discussed avoiding left brain interventions in times of meltdown, the difference between discipline and punishment, and how focusing on the wrong stuff leads to fear-based parenting. We chat about coregulating as the parent alongside the child in stressful moments, how repeated experiences help nurture and develop the Whole-Brain Child, and how to meaningfully communicate to our children not every behavior is OK, but every feeling is. No-Drama Discipline is one of the books I read as a new parent with a vision of how I could operate more confidently as a parent, and I'm delighted Tina took the time for this chat. I cannot wait for y'all to give it a watch! Find Dr. Tina Payne-Bryson! Suffering in silence is a thing of the past! In this week's episode, Lauren and Megan join me to discuss the origin of the The Matrescence, the launch of their new Matrescence paid support community, and we get a chuckle out of the fact our computers don't recognize the spelling of the word. Meeting moms where they are, The Matrescence provides support throughout the highs and lows of motherhood, acknowledging every person needs support through the fog of perinatal experiences, and providing tools to help people feel held and seen during such times. The new paid community includes access to interdisciplinary perinatal specialists, including dentistry, pharmacy, mental health, and more! Give our episode a listen, then head over to their links and get in touch!
